One vegan and one pescatarian - so why did we stop in here on epic road trip from Golden Colorado to Austin? Because they do a great yam - shown sweet potato on the menu. Super yummy for our vegan. For our pescatarian their grilled salmon is delicious. With a baked potato. And, plenty of great ice tea. Plus the wait staff were fabulous. We will stop in our way to and from Austin. My husband and I have been on the road for business for three weeks. We eat out quite a bit. My husband was craving subs but me, a big juicy steak. I picked up his order at another place and ordered a medium steak for me to pick up. Our first Saltgrass experience was years ago in San Antonio Texas, which really made us fans for life. I recommend getting the $25 Landry's membership card, because it more than pays for itself if you go back. Out of 100's of visits to various Saltgrass locations, I can count on one hand the number of times it wasn't quite up to par. We have been to the Amarillo Saltgrass a couple of times since moving here in April 2022, and both visits were up there with some of the best. Outstanding food and service. Absolutely the worst steak I've had in my adult life. Aldi could open a steakhouse and get better results. I'll start w the basics. They made me a rare steak. The problem is I ordered a medium. Rare or medium what showed up in my box at the hotel reminded me of ponderosa steakhouse. As bad as the steak tasted the mashed potatoes were even worse, think TV dinner style with some added potato skin for coloring. To top it off, the flimsy plastic silverware made me hate this experience even more. Waited for a table for about 5 minutes because host was nowhere around. Then a worker walked past with a tub of dishes and just looked at us and kept walking. Well the waitress was great. I had a wonderful time at the Saltgrass Steak House. The food (steaks) are fantastic. The potato soup is the best I've ever had. Where this restaurant distinguishes itself is in their customer service. The restaurant is loaded with teens that are just superb in the service they provide. This was a terrific restaurant experience in evry way. We were greeted with a smile and seated promptly. The food was great. We ordered medium rare, and when it came it was a little too rare. The manager came over and personally took care of it in 5 minutes. We were not rushed, but were nicely checked on by our waitress, Alex. The bathrooms were neat and clean. If I could give zero stars I would. I ordered a steak salad, and it was the worst meal I've ever had. The meat was dry and cold, it felt like they just took the steak out of a fridge and served it. Our favorite place to stop when traveling to and from Albuquerque! Wish we had one closer . We love the Pat's ribeye or the sirloin. Soooo much food you will have to take a box home. I love the onion tanglers with my steak too. Their bread is delicious and melts in your mouth. You have to try their salads with their house Made ranch-a little dill in it gives it a special zip. We had their pecan pie bread pudding (seasonal) and I can honestly say I have never had a better bread pudding. Be careful need at least 2-4 people to eat it all! read more

I once sat down and ordered a steak at a Saltgrass and I asked the waitress for some A-1 sauce with my steak. She paused, looked me in the eye and asked "do you know where you are?" One of the problems I didn't like was that I was told by the waiter that the Cowboy Ribeye was $24. I then realize when the bill comes that it was $36. A $12 difference which was cool. They didn't offer a discount or apologize for the inconvenience. Didn't really like that. If they say market value and you ask and they answer it should be what was said. Not all of a sudden a $12 difference. What's to stop them from the next time I go and ask & they say $30 then raise it to $42 come bill time. read more

No idea how this place has 4 stars after so many reviews. Ordered a steak and asparagus, there's an up-charge for 4 undercooked spears, at the bar. Came here on a busy weekday night to grab a late bite with a colleague. We were seated pretty quickly and the servers had our drink order in no time. SaltGrass is one of my mom's favorite restaurants, so I end up there quite often. Service is always wonderful, the staff is well trained on both the menu and proper customer service. On the few occasions we have ever had problems with our food, the staff has been more than willing to fix the issues. My favorite dishes are the crab cakes appetizer (which I frequently order as my meal, because they're too good to share) and the chicken fried steak, and the chicken fried chicken is also very good! The prices are a little higher than some of the other steakhouses, but in our experiences the food (portion size is huge) and service is always worth the price. read more
