Long story short: I live and work in the DFW area, my 76-year-old mother is the most active 76-year-old I have ever heard of, she was on an outing, called my office 6 times, did not answer when I called back, using Find My Phone I discovered that sweet old lady was HERE. Its been one and a half year. I am still upset and sad whenever I thought about it. I had a very disappointing experience at this steakhouse on New Year's Eve (December 31st), which was supposed to be a happy and memorable night. I was waiting in line to be seated, and I was clearly the second person in line. After the first customer was taken to their table, the staff member completely skipped over me and seated the person behind me instead. As an Asian customer, this made me feel singled out and discriminated against. I cannot say for certain what the intention was, but the situation felt extremely disrespectful and gave me the impression of racial bias. What made it even worse was that this happened on New Year's Eve, a time when people are supposed to be celebrating and enjoying themselves. Instead, I left feeling upset and disappointed. I enjoy the steaks here for the most part, but today I ordered a chicken fried steak. The meat was a little tough so I wasn't a fan. Staff are always friendly, although this visit, there was a question about the asparagus as a side dish to our entree but apparently it's an up charge, when we asked the waiter, he said he'd remove it, but instead the manager was sent over which wasn't requested, and when we got the bill, it was still on there. Strange way to operate business. Seafood fondue was decent. Always love the fresh bread and butter. read more

I went here on a Saturday evening with approximately 8-10 people. It was great that they were able to accommodate us without a reservation. The restaurant was nice and clean. The visit started kind of shaky because we were asked for our drink orders but we couldn't find a list of drinks on the menu. I had to ask for the wine list. I also had to ask the waiter his name. Once we got past all of the formalities (lol) this moved in the right direction. The food was amazing. The sirloin steak was seasoned to perfection and very tender. The Brussels were fried and then drizzled with a glaze. I ate them all. The rest of the people in my party loved their food as well. Frankie was our server who did a good job managing our group alone. Wait times were minimum. He was polite and each time someone requested something he got it without hesitation. I placed a pickup order at Saltgrass Steak House in Jacinto City (Houston) and chose the early dining menu, which is a great deal. I paid $45 for two meals, and the portions were generous for the price. Ordering ahead was easy, and the takeout server provided awesome customer service--very friendly and helpful, which I really appreciated. The food was a mix of highs and lows. The loaded mashed potatoes were delicious as usual, creamy and flavorful, and definitely the highlight of the meal. Along with the tortilla soup that was also delicious. Unfortunately, there were some major disappointments. The baked potato was hard, burnt, tasted old, and was completely inedible. The chicken fried steak was also burnt and overcooked--the meat inside was rock hard, tasted old, and honestly seemed like it was cooked in old grease, or reheated and sat out for hours, so it couldn't be eaten either. On top of that, the bread was hard as a rock and had to be thrown away. Overall, the pricing, portions, and customer service were great, but the quality of some of the food really missed the mark this time. Our entire experience was colored by Davin, from his first greeting to our party at the host stand, to bidding us a great night, he demonstrated how to provide outstanding customer service. I called ahead and made a reservation for 6 at 4:30 pm because we had plans and needed to eat quickly and head to our next event. We were immediately seated and within a few minutes our server came and we ordered our drinks. When he returned with the drinks we put in our food order. One person had a salad and I had a soup so those came out within 5-10 minutes of placing our order. And then, the wait began. At the 25 minute mark with no update from our server, I had to rely on Davin, the host to help us get an update. He came to us about 5 minutes later and was apologetic, and said it would be 5 minutes. I waited a few minutes then started the timer on my clock. That countdown expired with only our server telling us it would come soon and Davin returning again to see it wasn't there and letting us know that they had a shift change for the chef which is what threw the kitchen behind. At this point, we're aware there is a manager in the building, and puzzled as to why Davin is bearing the responsibility for our customer experience. We were also told that the delay was because of the brisket tacos. Finally, after about 5 more minutes (so we're at close to 40 mins at this point), we get our food and begin eating. I finished my meal and someone else finished their entrée. At that point, the manager comes over to inquire how our meal was going. She does not introduce herself, asked specifically how our food was and only seemed alarm when she realized two plates were missing and she thought we were still waiting for food. At this point we were over our experience so we gave minimal responses, finished our meals, paid and departed as quickly as possible. I did a survey - the brisket tacos were apparently good, but "worth the wait" is questionable. My chicken fried chicken was standard fare - nothing to write home about but highlights were there wasn't too much breading, and the gravy wasn't lumpy or salty. I also enjoyed my potato soup. I've dined here before during much busier times and not had to wait that long so hopefully this was an anomaly - I shared our experience to give Davin his kudos and help the other team members learn how to treat customers by taking accountability. read more

Saltgrass steakhouse is one of the nicer restaurants in East Houston. I was pleasantly surprised when I noticed they had a flat iron steaks on the menu. Although, a cheaper cut, it's unique and adds variety to the menu. Also, it allows customers to have a wide price range to choose from. The restaurant is one that's similar to other like Texas Roadhouse or potentially Outback Steakhouse. I believe Saltgrass is the better restaurant of the three. Although, Texas Roadhouse probably has better bread. Anyway, I ordered the steak medium rare. It was more like a medium to medium well. It happens, but good Steakhouses usually get the temperatures right. The sweet potato fries were amazing. I would recommend them. The fried shrimp were also tasty. Similar to other restaurants in the same price tier. It's a restaurant that I often come back too. It's not a top Steakhouse or anything, but for the price, it's fair. Expect to spend about $50 per person and basically have a full dining experience. The atmosphere gives me the impression that they were going for a Texas theme. It's a cool vibe. Went in for lunch and we were not disappointed. Service was quick and timely. Waitress was very nice and did separate checks for us no problem. We ordered off e lunch menu and we had very large portions. The ribs were more than a half rack and very tender. I couldn't even finish it all. Terrible service. It wasn't even busy and there was a 15 minute wait. Plenty of empty tables. I would not recommend this place anymore. It's been awhile since we've visited and it has gone downhill terribly. Our waiter sucked. Checked on us maybe 3 times. Asked the server who brought out our food for A1 and never got it. Asked our waiter for tea 3 times before we finally got some. Never left a full carafe at our table. Asked the waiter for more tea and to go boxes which were never brought to us. I had to get up and disturb his conversation with another waiter just standing around for the tea and the to go boxes and still had to wait for him to bring them with our check. The food is good but not worth the service. The ambiance is casual but they did have loud music playing. Way overpriced for the service provide. Will not be returning here that's for sure. I ordered the 8oz center-cut steak with grilled shrimp, mushrooms & onions, a side of Brussels sprouts, and the house salad. The salad came out first, but I barely ate a third of it -- the leaves were not fresh, with wilted and darkened edges. I didn't complain, partly because I was worried that if I did, my upcoming meal might somehow be compromised (not saying it would've happened but a plausible concern for me). Disappointing, but not worth the risk. I ordered my steak medium, but it arrived nearly well-done. I asked the server to confirm how I had ordered it -- just in case I'd accidentally said "medium-well" (which I used to order ). The server confirmed I had, in fact, ordered medium. I then respectfully asked to have it replaced, as it was clearly overcooked -- my friend, who saw it, agreed. They had also forgotten my mushrooms and onions. Given the situation, I would've expected the remake to be rushed, but it took quite a while. By that point, my friends were nearly done with their meals, so I asked the staff to pack my replacement to-go. They apologized and explained that the kitchen was remaking everything, including the Brussels sprouts, from scratch. It's hard to say whether there was an initial delay (idk if they forgot to restart my order) or if that was genuinely the case. Throughout it all, will credit the staff remaining professional and courteous. When I got home and opened my meal, though, the steak was once again closer to medium-well or well-done -- only slightly better than the first one. I understand that steaks continue to cook while resting, but I've had enough medium steaks at other restaurants to know this wasn't a simple resting issue. The restaurant was about 60% full -- maybe a little more -- and there seemed to be plenty of staff, so I didn't get the impression they were short-handed. Perhaps the chef was new or still gaining experience. Either way, it was a letdown -- both for the cost and for what should have been an enjoyable dining experience. Scale (1-10) Staff: 7-7.5 Food: Steak 4/10; appetizers and sides 8/10 -- but I came for the entrée, not the appetizers. For starters, we weren't greeted until about 7 minutes after we sat down. the server was acting extremely strung out on something. my water glass was dirty, the artichoke dip is also NOT worth $15 it was extremely mid my disabled uncle could've done better. the food was tasting great, but we didn't get any bread without asking for it halfway through our steaks. we didn't even get our salads until we had to ask for them, and they were not cold? like i go to a steakhouse for a cold plate and a cold salad and i can't even get that, nonetheless getting it when im almost done with my steak. after ALL of that, she charged us $140 when our meal was actually $119. not sure if she just charged the wrong ticket or if she added a tip herself? had to get a manager because wtf?? worst service ever. will not be coming back to this bum ass saltgrass. read more

My parents chose to celebrate their 50th wedding anniversary at this Saltgrass location on Saturday, May 3rd. My stepmother visited in person on April 8th to secure the private area well in advance. However, when my cousins arrived to decorate before the event, they were denied access to the private space, being told that it had been reserved by someone else prior to my stepmother's booking. As a result, we were moved to the public area, and decorating was delayed until 4:20 PM for a 5 PM event. When I arrived and inquired about the situation, I was informed that my stepmother had only been promised a semiprivate area and was required to sign a contract--details that were never communicated to her when she initially secured the room in person with my cousin. To make matters worse, the guests occupying the private area stated they had reserved it in mid-April, well after my stepmother's booking, proving that we had been misled. I asked the manager on duty to contact the general manager to request some form of accommodation, which resulted in appetizers being provided and my parents' meals being covered. Nevertheless, it was extremely disappointing for such a significant milestone to be handled so poorly, with strangers observing an event that should have been intimate. The food was mediocre, and we could have chosen any other venue for the celebration. To have it start in such an unprofessional and incompetent manner was completely unacceptable. read more
