Their fixed price menu is great - $25 for a starter and main choice with unlimited beverages (coffee, mimosa, tequila sunrise). I chose the steak and eggs - I wanted the steak medium, it came out well done. The sauce has a taste I can't quite place, but I didn't care for it. The french fries were great tho! My friend loved her french toast. We had a 1pm reservation and the place was pretty well packed, so it's popular. I really appreciated the simplicity of the menu. They know exactly what they do well, and they stick to it: steak, fries, gravy, a few desserts, and that's pretty much it. I believe they have brunch on Sundays but I can't speak on that. If you're looking for a huge menu with endless choices, this isn't that kind of place. The atmosphere is a trendy, hip vibe with dim lighting that makes it feel cozy and perfect for a date night or dinner with friends. On this occasion it was for my little sister's birthday. The steak was tender, easy to eat, and paired with their signature gravy. The sauce over both the steak and fries was absolutely phenomenal and tied the whole meal together. You can't eat the steak and fries without it, just don't. At first, the portions they served were small until you find out they bring you a complimentary second serving of steak and fries. I finally got to try Medium Rare back in July so kind of a late review. They are located where the Artisans' original location used to be on the corner of Stuart and Louisiana. It's a simple concept of steak frites and you get a second helping. They time it right and bring you the second portion after you are done with the first one. They take your order and ask how you would like your steak. First course is a salad, then comes the steak with the fries. The server writes his name on the table and your preference for the temperature of the steak on your side of the table. The first time we got our steak and fries I actually loved every single bite with the sauce that came. The second time when they brought out the steak the sauce was very runny and nothing like the first one. Thankfully we still had the sauce from the first round because my friend had requested hers on the side and I just used that to eat my steak. I haven't seen my family for 5 years and thought this might be a good place to brunch and chill. First, no carafe. Each person is giving a tiny mimosa glass that u must request to be refilled each time. After your first three glasses, a commotion begins. You see dirty looks, side glances, workers whispering in the back about your table. I knew it was about the mimosas, so I asked if there was a time limit for the brunch. Server answered no. I explained I haven't seen my family in a long time so we were just catching up and he said it was totally fine. Zero mention about the fact that they were counting their mimosas by the ounce. Great, so we continued to drink mimosas while catching up. At this point, the server gave us a carafe because the restaurant was not that busy anymore. Mind you, the carafe was HALF full. After finishing another half carafe i.e. FOUR people splitting ONE full carafe and paying for bottomless (with emphasis) mimosas, the lady manager came and cut us off. Zero prior notice, zero understanding, zero excuse for doing so, and zero manners. We tried to appeal by explaining that we were not bothering anyone, loud, obnoxiously drunk, or disrupting their operation in any way. At least, can we get one last carafe since we didn't get prior notice and all of the carafes were half full? Nope, sorry, and she walked away. We began ordering at 12:30 pm and were kicked out at 3pm. The lack of hospitality, courtesy, tact, and decorum from the lady manager is abhorrent. I'm glad you were able to save the company fifty cents from the one carafe you could have given your customer one last time as goodwill. That bread was so soft and crunchy and the butter that comes with it just completes it. I got my first serve of meat and fries there's something special about the meat-sauce I think that's where the trick is, the meat was okay nothing too exciting and the fries as well, I thought I was done and then they served a second plate when they did that they brought the meat in what it looked like an air fryer plate not sure if it was or not but it definitely looked like that and it made me think it lost prestige (at least in my eyes). Made a reservation for brunch on a Saturday but honestly didn't need one - a walk in would've been fine. We were seated immediately and our server was very attentive throughout our time there. I opted for the benedict and mimosa and the salad to start. Where do I even begin? I was excited to try Medium Rare because of all the hype. My friends and I had brunch a few weeks ago and it was so underwhelming. There were more misses than hits, so let's just get into it with a pros and cons list. Pros: -Free garage parking -The Lavender 75 is a beautiful cocktail that tasted good (but got to be a little too sweet after awhile) -The fries, chocolate cake, and coffee were good - My friends enjoyed the fruit cup and parfait -The price point is affordable (but that also means you get what you pay for) Cons: -Our server and her trainee kept coming over to take our drink order when we clearly hadn't had a chance to look over the menu. We didn't realize that some of the drinks were written on chalkboards on the wall. -Our table was so crowded with dishes, that the server and trainee couldn't write their names on the table. -The salad consisted of wilted spring mix and three halves of a cherry tomato. It had way too much dressing which made the salad soggy and pitiful. -The steak and eggs were okay. The scrambled eggs were too soft for my preference. The steak is skirt steak so I didn't have high expectations. Had I known that the "secret sauce" was going to be brown gravy, I would have asked for it on the side. The gravy was salty and took away from the meat (though I did like the gravy with the fries). -The tables were positioned too close together. We couldn't get to the bathroom without bumping into other patrons. Staff members kept bumping into our chairs so much that my best friend finally asked the trainee to stop squeezing by our table. Once she did, no other employees attempted to squeeze past (thankfully). -At times, staff members were literally standing around with nothing to do which is ironic because a young couple that was seated next to us got up and left after waiting a few minutes without being acknowledged. -The playlist consisted of the same 5 songs. I like "Gin + Juice" but I didn't need to hear it three times within an hour and a half. They recently received a good review in the Houston Chronicle and I can't help but wonder if they stepped up their game knowing that they were about to be reviewed. I thought maybe we had an off visit, but after reading many of the comments on the Chronicle's IG page, I've realized that it wasn't a one off. The food is one main offering of Bread, Salad, Steak Frites and they execute well on all 3/4 (4 if you count the fries as a separate item). Bread is nice and toasty warm, with an airy crumb that's not super filling. The salad was vibrant and bright with a sort of mustardy vinaigrette, cleaned the plate for that one. The fires are great, not the most insanely crispy, but not at all soggy, with impeccable flavor and crave-ability. The steak, recommended Medium Rare (hey that's the name of the restaurant!!), looks a tad underwhelming from the pictures, but flavor is truly redemptive. I was thinking the lack of hard sear would bother me, but the thin cut and presliced portion with the Au Poivre sauce is so delicate and delicious that I was eager for the bonus portion given to you as well. We came to Medium Rare in Midtown Houston for a friend's Sunday birthday brunch. At $34 for bottomless mimosas, Bloody Marys, soda, orange juice, or La Colombe coffee, it's a strong value, especially if you plan to drink. If you choose just water, they'll drop the price by $10. Gratuity is automatically included for parties of six or more. Parking is also convenient, with a free garage right next door and plenty of street parking nearby. Our experience started off a little rough. Both my water glass and my partner's were dirty, and the issue happened again with our refills. I mentioned it to the host and suggested the refill pitcher might be the problem. Not a great start. I began with a regular orange juice because I was craving one, then switched to the endless Bloody Marys, which were solid and kept coming. The music had a fun, nostalgic feel, but it was a bit dated. Some of the tracks hit, but something more current would help match the crowd and brunch energy. The brunch deal is $34 (something like that) and includes a bottomless drink (mimosas, Bloody Marys, sodas, orange juice or coffee), a starter like salad, parfait, or fruit, and then one of five main dishes. I only wanted a parfait and that caused some confusion. I'd recommend sticking with the full menu since it's clearly built that way. My parents got the French toast and eggs Benedict and enjoyed them, though my dad thought the eggs were a little too runny. A few things rubbed me the wrong way: When I first booked, I accidentally made the reservation for two instead of three. I couldn't change it online, so I called, and the person who answered seemed super annoyed. She was sighing loudly and saying it would be hard to add one person since it was Mother's Day. She did fix it, but when we got there the place was less than half full the entire time... What was the big deal then? Service was also slow. We had to ask for sugar multiple times before anyone brought it. Even though there were a lot of staff around, it was hard to get anyone's attention every time we needed something. Medium Rare is the cooking point I always order for my favorite meat. This is why, when I accidentally crossed paths with the restaurant, I decided to check it out, especially since I was urgently looking for a restroom. As soon as I walked in, the team greeted me with the kindest and most courteous smiles. Without hesitation, they gently indicated where the restroom was, located at the back of the place. While walking through and eyeing the dishes of other guests, my appetite couldn't resist the temptation to order that tender meat that instantly made me drool with excitement. It looked so tasty and perfectly cooked that I couldn't believe I was just walking by one of my favorite dishes, the classic French formula: steak-frites! As soon as I exited the restroom, I couldn't help but watch the chef gently slice each meat portion and fry the fries to a crispy, golden perfection. I couldn't believe I was about to miss this French classic in a meat city like Houston. But unfortunately, I had a commitment to attend to. Still, I couldn't ignore the "Matilda"-sized portions of the intense Double Chocolate and Carrot cake (both six layers!). I took them to go and did my best to resist devouring them in one sitting (I'm a sweet addict, after all). I wanted to savor the flavor for five consecutive days......yes, the portions are that big! If you're strong-willed, you can enjoy a sweet spoonful every day for nearly a week. The chocolate cake is definitely my favorite, so pure and intense, pouring out deep dark chocolate notes. Any chocolate lover would agree it's one of the best out there. But the carrot cake doesn't fall short, so fresh, natural, and meticulously constructed, you can feel every carrot fiber and crunchy nut in every bite... ufff, I'm still thinking about them. I was lucky enough to take them to go, thanks to Cecilia, Laura, and the superb manager Pablo, who took care of my request and carefully packed the cakes to preserve their consistency during the ride. To the owners: your best asset is your team on-site. I can't stress enough how warm and caring they all were during my brief visit, especially Pablo, Cecilia, and Laura, who truly made me feel like a valued customer, even during such a short stop. When we arrived there was only one other table sitting in the restaurant. The restaurant is cute inside. Love the lighting. Music can be a little loud, especially when there is no one in there. It seemed like we were bothering him. I asked for ice tea and he said they didn't have any. They were fine, but the espresso martini was full of ice. Not ice chips, but full blown ice cubes. Extremely weird. We had to ask for water refills and he seemed bothered. My mom didn't drink, just water so her drink was empty. Milton never smiled until he came to us at the end and asked if we wanted dessert. As a table of people who have been in the service industry, this tactic is so you can be friendly at the end when you drop the bill, maybe get a better tip. I never received my ice tea and once I was done with my steak he asked if I wanted it. No thanks. When we got the bill we were charged for the tea. We asked for it to be removed and he asked for us to give him payment and he will take it off. I would have preferred to give him my card once we saw the correct bill. Stopped in on a Monday which was probably best as it wasn't as busy as Cam, our waitress indicates it gets closer to the weekend. Located in Midtown, you actually have the parking garage attached to it at which you can park or if you're fortunate enough, as we were, find street parking right across the restaurant. Once parked, located on the corner place has outside seating and indoor is intimate with many tables. As mentioned it was a Monday and it wasn't busy at all. Recommend making reservations especially if going on the weekends, but overall just to plan ahead helps. Once seated our waitress Cam and she was being shadowed greets us and brings us our menu, Cam was friendly and attentive, she's been there since Medium Rare opened in November. Do note, your meal is Prix Fixe, (pre-fixed) there is not deviation from it aside from how you want the steak cooked, no deviation from that. Food: 1st course: Artisan Rustic Bread, it had good flavor and crunchy. It is served with regular butter, but we asked for olive oil to dip in. Bread is unlimited so ask for more if you'd want more, it isn't automatically replenished like the chips and salsa at some Mexican restaurants. 2nd course: Mixed Green Salad: It was a plain salad, nothing really to it. Some of the lettuce looked like it was starting to brown. We maybe got a close to bad bag batch. 3rd course: Culotte Steak and Fresh-cut Fries with secret sauce. First I will say the steak and fries were bursting with plenty of favor, likely from the sauce, very pepper forward. While the fresh cut fries did seem freshly cut, I bit into a couple of them and they were undercooked. And didn't know until after leaving, the fries were bottomless. The Culotte steak was good in flavor paired with the sauce, the first round was finished quickly. Would've like it to have a bit more of a sear, but good nonetheless. Once finished, server returned with our second serving of our steak, the reason they bring it out this was is so that the meat is still hot when eating it, although the meat was not hot when I ate it. Dessert: we ordered the carrot cake, it was cold as it was likely refrigerated, but Cam did indicate it is brought in. It was good, nothing that has me screaming I got to return for carrot cake. I paired my meal with the Cabernet, which pairs well with steaks, so if you haven't had cab with steak and chocolate cake, do yourself a favor when you can, please do so. They do have a full bar and saw some cocktails written on the mirror (photo below) might need to return as Cam did share their brunch menu and it looked very enticing with bottomless mimosas, bloody Mary's and screwdrivers? The staff was kind and accomplished throughout the whole process, and took the time to explain how things worked since it was our first time. Since we came during dinner, they only serve one option - steak frites! However, don't be fooled by the simplicity of the selection process. Since you can only order the one thing, you pay a set price - which also includes a salad and endless amount of artisan bread. You'd have to pay extra for any drinks or dessert. We were served a total of two portions of the steak and fries, which come with a brown sauce that is reminiscent of mustard. It was quite good, but not my personal favorite (I'd rather have the steak without the sauce). As the name states, it's cooked to medium rare unless you say otherwise. Since some friends of mine wanted to check out the newly finished location in Houston, I decided to join them on a Saturday night to see if the fixed menu is something worth checking out. As most reviews can attest, the purpose of their concept is to make steak night affordable at a reasonable price. For about $32.95, you get a three fixed course steak meal consisting of a bread basket w/ butter, a salad, and steak frites. There's no other options/substitutes here so take it or leave it. Good thing with the steak frites is you get double servings so make sure you save room for it. As for the food, it's not bad for the price you pay as you get a good amount of food. In terms of taste, the steak is alright, just a sirloin with some fries. The sauces with the meal enhance the flavor. The salad is your typical house salad (mixed greens, cherry tomatoes) with some fresh cracked pepper. After our main course, we tried our friend's chocolate lava cake; very rich and delicious. If you like chocolate, that's definitely your thing. Wine and special cocktails are offered for adult beverages. The sangria is a good one which my girlfriend enjoyed. Our server Kayla kept everything flowing and assisted us with questions and getting us what we needed. They definitely have the staff and service down based on our experience there. I'm probably more inclined to splurge more on a more festive steak experience when I'm in the mood for steak or I'll just cook mine at home. But this is a nice alternative for those who are looking for a steak frites experience at an affordable cost. read more

Came here for brunch on the weekend and I'd say overall it was okay. I got the steak and eggs. The steak was very flavorful but the eggs didn't really have much taste. I wasn't a fan of the gravy they put on the steak. I must've missed that part because I would've asked for it on the side. They also give you complimentary bread and butter but the bread was hard as rocks & they didn't give us knives so we were left to use our forks to attempt to spread the butter. My friend felt like her orange mimosas were plain juice, but I enjoyed my cranberry ones. I'd say they could work on their service. We couldn't find our waiter at a point so my friend asked a random one walking by for a knife. We waited forever for her to come back and when she finally did, she didn't bring a knife and didn't even acknowledge us so I assume she just forgot. My friend had to go take a knife off of a different table smh The ambience was nothing to brag about, just regular tables with paper on it as if you're at a seafood spot. On the bright side, there's free parking in the garage and on the street. Overall, i'd say there's nothing special about this place from what I experienced so I won't be back. read more

How do you like your steak? Though I like mine on the medium well side, Medium Rare is the place to be! This place is a whole vibe! Located in Midtown this cute spot offers good music, fine food, and great ambiance. The mood is set with a soundtrack of classic hits playing in the background, and let's not forget about that bathroom, it's wild! I mean, I got a whole "duolingo" French lesson (the language of love) while washing my hands! Things like that definitely set this place apart from the rest. I was greeted warmly from the second I stepped in the door! While I waited for my party to arrive I sat at their bar area and ordered a Pineapple Mule served with a smile. Right off the bat I connected with James , one of the waitstaff who also happened to be serving our table. He was so the BEST! Hands down the most awesome waitstaff I've ever met. He made our time there special. I felt like I've known him for years, and he knew just how to connect with each person in our group! We all fell in love with him instantly! Tonight (likely due to the Valentine's Day crowd) the meal was pre-set for every guest. This meal included bread, salad, and Collette steak in their special sauce, with fries. There were dessert options as well, from which I chose a key lime pie. And an assortment of after dinner coffees. What blew my mind was that they came around and offered more food to us after finishing our first entree plate! I wasn't expecting that, and was pleasantly surprised. Parking for this location sits right behind the restaurant, a parking garage that is free. Because of the number of shops and restaurants around (an especially since this was Valentines weekend) parking can be at a premium during certain points of the day, so think about that when coming. There is also street parking available too. Seating for Medium Rare is offered both inside and outside (patio). The price average for this place is moderate, and folks can dress up or down. It is a beautiful place for a girls night out, date night, celebrations, brunch, etc! I had a wonderful time here! An amazing experience for sure. P.S. they give you Bazooka gum at the end of your meal! That brought back good memories for sure! This was my first time coming, and it won't be my last. This place is definitely worth checking out! My Yelp friend really wanted to try this place, so a group of us came here on a Saturday evening. They have multi locations across the US, and have now landed in Houston. The restaurant is in midtown, nearby other hot spots in Houston like Breakfast Klub etc. My thoughts are this place is trying to fill a need in the market to make steak attainable/approachable for a reasonable price point that most can afford, rather than a fancy $$ steakhouse. Parking - street if you can find it. They have a very well lit (a woman must have designed this) attached parking garage close by for all the restaurants on the commercial strip to use. Service - was good. Our server Kayla and the other staff and bussers were able to keep everything straight, and everyone fed and satisfied. You are actually allowed to get 2 servings of steak/fries, so arrive hungry. Food- the dinner menu is a 1 fixed meal only. According to the internet: " the restaurant Medium Rare serves culotte steak, a cut of beef from the top sirloin, for steak frites" It soley includes bread basket, salad, and steak frites cooked to your preference. So if those 3 things are not your jam, this won't be the place for you, for dinner at least. While I did try some of the steak and fries from friends, I did not order it. The sauce definitely adds to it. I was surprised about the size of the plate, as it seemed small to me, smaller than I expected at least. But friends seemed to be satisfied and full and enjoyed it. I had already eaten earlier. So I only ordered there double chocolate fudge cake. And let me tell you, it's very rich but tasty, just as Kayla said. No ice cream included (sad) but you can add that for extra $. I ate most of it and shared it with the group, so everyone got a bite. Definitely recommend you split this with someone or a group. Drinks - the group for the most part I think enjoyed what they ordered. They have an additional drink menu written on the wall near the door. I have had this place on my list for quite some time for the location in New York, so I was overjoyed when they opened one in Houston! I came here with a group of friends, and it was super easy to make a reservation using Open Table. I made an adjustment the day of to add on and they quickly responded they could adjust. Coming into the restaurant is different than initially thought. I thought it was much smaller, however, how they have to setup, there's a good amount of space. The lighting is great for a date night, girls night, or just anything. They had some great 90's and early 2000's music playing and it was a vibe! Steak was cooked a beautiful med rare, as requested, however the temperature was cool vs warm/hot. I'd read this in a few reviews so my expectations were already adjusted for that. We all wondered how they cook the steak, and maybe that's why it was cool vs hot, but more than anything, it was still good, tender and the sauce just is delicious! Fries were much hotter the second go round, but none the less tasty! Also, order dessert first! The chocolate cake was delicious! I don't know how many layers it was but the ganache on the inside was warm and I love chocolate cake so it's right up my alley! The service was ok, we couldn't seem to find out server when we needed to order more drinks. I'll probably regret writing this review because I know what it'll do for all the new transplants to Houston . Picture this... Saturday brunch that started at 1:30pm and did not end until about 6:30pm because the vibes, food, DRINKS, and convo were just that good. Like most folk, I found out about this spot via an IG reel and said well let me go try out this bottomless mimosa brunch.... But wait, all for $40. Yep... you didn't misread that. The food was delicious and so were the mimosas. You can even swap over to bottomless screwdrivers if that's your thing. The mimosas start flowing as soon as you sit along with some bread. Right off the bat the service was awesome! I was surprised by their small menu but my server Milton assured me that although the menu was small the flavor wasn't and he was right! I don't even have a picture of the salad because I devoured it but it was so fresh and the dressing was very refreshing and light. The steak was good but the star of this show is the special sauce. When I thought I was done Milton asked if I was ready for my next round of steak and we both laughed but it was not a joke you get a whole second round!!! For the price quantity and amazing service this place is worth the hype!!!!! If you're going to do one thing only, you'd better do it well. Happy to say they do, and they stick the landing. Salad is amazing, perfectly dressed and simple. Steak frites ordered rare plus came out rare plus. Fries crispy. Sauce perfect. Bread soft inside and crunchy outside. Delirium Tremens on tap is a big plus. Diana is a bubbly and knowledgeable server, friendly and enthusiastic. I wish we had saved room for dessert, but when that second serving of steak drops on your plate as a friendly surprise, what are you going to do but eat it? It would be rude not to. Pro tip: order extra sauce for your fries and bread, or hell, just tip it back and drink it. No charge. Two set menus, a cocktail and a beer, 99 bucks after tax but before tip. Tried this newly opened (1mo) concept last night. A set menu isn't unique, but it is at the $32 price point. Especially for Steak! The food was solid, steak and frits,salad and amazing bread.
