We wanted to celebrate father's day early and try something new. My husband decided on Saltgrass. We walked in to a typical steak house setting. A little on the darker side, a lot of wood. Cozy, family style atmosphere. The ambience was laid back and quiet. We had a reservation and arrived 15 minutes early, they sat us right away. We ordered queso fresco with brisket, Maudeen's center cut filet, texas t-bone, and chopped steak. Unfortunately right after we ordered my son complained that he wasn't feeling well and went to the bathroom multiple times. I asked our server if we can get our order to go. From the get go she was extremely pleasant and understanding. We had some of the queso fresco app before leaving and were hooked! It was hard to stop eating to pack it up. Went to try Salthouse Steakhouse, and I must say everything was 5 stars from the moment we walked in to the moment we walked out! There was no wait when we arrived, so we were seated immediately. Our server, Jared, was absolutely amazing from start to finish! super friendly and attentive. My husband and I shared their new menu item, the Sampler, which came with BBQ ribs, rattlers, and brisket queso. It was a lot of food and every bite was delicious! We came for the early dining special. We ordered our meals from that menu. We were sat adjacent to the bar and I could see they had a happy hour and since it was not even 6, I asked about that menu. He gave us the menu and when I noticed the fried mushrooms we love and ordered was on there as well, we asked-- why didn't you offer us this menu as well? Do we need to sit at the bar for this? His answer was No... but "management doesn't like us to promote happy hour to the tables because the prices are cheaper". Wow. That sucks. So if I didn't inquire it was pay full price instead of discounted price. Then he said he could not give us that price anymore since he already put in the order. Wow. We just moved back to SA after 14 years away so this was not the welcome back to Saltgrass that I expected. I remember looking forward to Saltgrass date nights. Our meals were just ok. Nothing special to be honest. Guess a lot a has changed after 14 years. However...I'm hoping it's just this location. This was for a special occasion dinner for my family. We usually go to roadhouse, but wanted to change it up after some not so great visits there. I was scared because of the reviews, but figured we would give it a shot, after a coworker said it was good. Well he was right! Let's get this out of the way..it's pricey. At least compared to roadhouse. It is more upscale. Let's get straight to it. The service was impeccable! 5 for the entire waitstaff! This is where it set itself apart from roadhouse by miles. Attentive staff, warm smiles, and never had to ask for anything. It's like they already knew. We started off with the tenderloin bites and the spinach artichoke dip. One was fantastic, and the other failed miserably. The tenderloin bites were pricey, but by far one of the better appetizers we've had. Delicious! The dip was almost inedible. It was off putting in texture and flavor. This item and one other is probably why it wasn't a 5. That and the price. Anyway, the rest- we had the wagon boss 8oz, with fries, and Ceasar salad, New York strip, with fries and the soup of the day, cheeseburger, and chicken Laredo with asparagus and Brussels sprouts, and and a house salad with grilled shrimp and chicken. The steaks were definitely better than roadhouse. Ok so one major reason I'm comparing them two is they are literally right next to each other at this location. Where at times the meats at roadhouse seemed smaller than the size stated, here they seemed bigger. Huge plus. Everything was cooked perfectly and very well seasoned. Except one, the mashed potatoes. They felt like there was zero effort in to making them. Bland and flavorless. The star side for everyone was the brussels sprouts! They were absolutely the table favorite. The grilled shrimp were also a huge hit. The other table pleaser was the chicken Laredo! It was such a joyful surprise. Perfectly cooked chicken and bursting with flavor. Not going to lie, it looked like overkill on all the toppings. Thought it wouldn't work but they knocked out of the park on that one! Overall a very pleasant and satisfying experience. The worst part about drive-thru and pick up orders is things being wrong or things being left out. The guys at pick up window were nice showed me everything in the bag and I didn't question the sauces for my chicken strips because i thought they would be in the tray. It says clearly on the receipt 5 ranches so I'm assuming they thought the same thing. Although it was not those guys fault probably the person packing it it should be addressed. My daughter had to go back we live 20 min away and she received a not convincing sorry. Food was cold by the time we were able to eat it which again defeats the purpose of picking up food. Here's an updated review from our experience at Salt Grass Cinema Ridge aka Ingram Park area. We arrived about 5:15pm walk in to take advantage of the early dining menu (Available until 6pm Mon-Fri) and the place wasn't packed yet, we had to wait about 10 minutes until the hostess went ahead and seated us. Our waitress then introduced herself and asked to take our drink order. Let's rate the service, the waitress was very kind, attentive and also made our experience great as she knew how it is to be dining alongside with a toddler. Let's rate the food, my wife ordered the lunch portion chicken fried chicken, it was golden crisp and topped with creamy gravy complimented with the mash potatoes. I ordered the lunch portion signature sirloin 6oz medium and grilled shrimp with a loaded baked potato. My steak was juicy, no fat, all meat and all flavor, paired with seasoned grilled shrimp and loaded creamy baked potato I was in for a meal! We ended our meal with a Strawberry Cheesecake, I must say the Cheesecake here at Salt Grass never disappoints and dip it with strawberry puree and real strawberries your in for a sweet treat! The place was packed the time we finished our meal which was a good thing we have gotten there early on a Friday afternoon. We recently visited San Antonio and decided on Saltgrass for dinner. I was blown away by the meal and service. Simple phenomenal! The Grand Old Fashioned was possibly the best Old Fashioned I've had and many of the other menu mixed drinks were great. Don't forego the carrot cake either...it was amazing! I chose to eat at Salt Grass because of the location. I was staying next door at the Holiday Inn Express, so I just walked right over. My server, Renee, was wonderful! The bread and potato soup was delicious as always. I then ordered the appetizer that had bits of steak, mushrooms, and onions in a creamy chimichurri sauce. Well, that's what I ordered, but not what came out. The dish had steak and mushrooms with no onions. Then it was all in a brown gravy... no chimichurri sauce at all. That was disappointing. The service was disorganized from the start; the staff seemed confused and completely missed several guests for orders and refills. The biggest issue, however, was my meal. I sat empty-handed while everyone else was served. The waiter never even checked to see if I had my food. When I finally flagged him down after ten minutes he realized he'd forgotten to order my plate entirely. He promised it would be out in 8 minutes, but it took nearly 20. By the time my food arrived--30 minutes and after everyone else had already finished eating--I told him to take it back. The un optional gratuity and the fact that we were on the wait list for 45 minutes for them to erase us off the list and seat several others before us. That was unprofessional. This was my first time going to Saltgrass at the Cinema Ridge location. We initially were quoted a 25 minute wait however were sat in about 10 minutes. The location is about the same size as an average Saltgrass with the normal decor. Our waitress was friendly and the service was fairly fast. I ordered an Urban Cowboy with a medium cooked steak. I've had this at other locations and while it was good, the 1-10 location cooks a better steak. I'll still return regardless. Overall I had a great experience with great service and food. read more

Walking distance from my hotel and I had never heard of this restaurant before, so I decided to give it a try. Ambiance was nice and not to busy (Monday 1630). First time in and i had an excellent waiter named Gary who took a few extra minutes and did a deep dive of the menu and some of the local favorites. Decided on the 16oz ribeye med/rare which was Cooked to perfection. Had a side of Brussel sprouts due to Gary's recommendation and they were roasted perfectly. Went here for a family birthday celebration. It breaks my heart so say service was very lacking. At one point all the waiters disappeared leaving our party needing drink refills and other minor requests. It took me flagging someone down to get more water for my wife. While my requests were fulfilled and our meals came, my 83 year old Dad didn't get his meal and had to ask the waiter for his food after everyone else had been served. They brought out his meal out 20 minutes later when everyone was already done. Who wants to eat alone? No one does. It is ridiculous that this happened at such a popular chain steak house restaurant. I can certainly say this incident is due to poor management and training and should be address accordingly. To add insult to injury, the waiter who messed up the order said it would be nice if we could give him a piece of cake. It took everything I am not to blow up and make a scene.
