I'm not a big coffee drinker but will grab a latte if I'm up early. Something great about this place is they're open at 7:00am which is a rare find nowadays. As someone who is frequently working and out the door by then, this is a huge win! I got the iced maple latte with oat milk. I liked it just fine. It was a good balance of milky-coffee-sweet. I couldn't really taste how this was different from a vanilla latte, but I like vanilla lattes so it doesn't really matter. Possibly it was a bit more deeper and aromatic in its sweetness but I can't say with 100% certainty. At the end of the day, I needed caffeine early in the morning and Saltwater was able to deliver. Stopped by for a latte and this is a great place if you're a purist and get simple, classic drinks however I like to try fun flavors so I was a bit underwhelmed at their lack of variety on the menu. I ordered the maple latte and it was pretty mid, I've had better tasting ones during the fall. If you're like me then definitely skip this spot. read more

I got the large iced maple latte w/ oat milk. They don't carry soy milk, but have almond and oat as well as regular milks. The latte was a little sweet for me but still yummy, espresso was smooth & rich. Overall it scratched my maple itch :) I paid $8.51 + $1 tip. A bit expensive, but on par with similar coffee shops in the area. The oat milk was an up charge (also common), so you could probably cut costs there w/ regular milk. To their credit, their cup sizes for both hot and iced were larger than their competitors. They also have a selection of pastries. I noticed a couple of them (bear & raspberry financiers, muffins, and maybe a couple of the croissants too), were the same that Plantshed offers, so they must share suppliers. The barista was very warm and friendly. The space was small, but inviting. I had a little dog with me, and they didn't seem to mind. I enjoyed Saltwater! Right off the West 4th stop on Waverly. One barista at 12pm on a Thursday. Was meeting a friend here for some conversation. My $5.44 hot latte was great! Haven't had one in a while and it was divine. Missed tasting espresso. It was quiet and had some seating which we were looking for. I'd say this cafe is more for doing quick work or a quick meeting. But they have wifi and some outlets. Only thing is...no restroom so a star is taken off. read more

They'll still get the customers, but with all of the coffee shops in NYC, I found Saltwater to be underwhelming. Their coffee was average, service was fine and so was the ambiance. My order? An oat cappuccino. The space? Minimalistic. But kind of boring, minimalistic, if you know what I mean? There's a way to do it and spruce things up a bit - give the space some energy. Maybe they'll do that one day. My friend ordered a regular coffee and the milk was slightly spoiled. I get it, those things happen from time to time, but the entire experience at Saltwater was just, eh. And kind of underwhelming. We were looking for some coffee in the Washington park area and happened to stumble across this cute coffee shop. Apparently they opened pretty recently and the staff are super friendly! Came by close to opening. There was no line, and no one inside. I got a matcha latte. There were globs of matcha at the end of the drink, so it wasn't mixed perfectly well. However the matcha was good. It was strong, and I like that they don't have it sweetened. Prices aren't terrible, and they have a discount if you're a college student or staff. While I wouldn't go out of my way to get a drink here, it's a good place to stop by if you're in the neighborhood. read more

After dining in East Village with my friends, we decided to grab coffee and take a stroll back to Midtown. Saltwater Coffee is conveniently across the street from where we were. Didn't have much expectations going in, but was pleasantly surprised at how cute/clean the coffee shop looked and how tasty the latte was - rich, bold, and creamy. My friends also really liked it too. There were no seats inside, so we just sat on the little bench outside the shop by the door. The barista working this morning was super friendly and made me a pour over because their drip coffee was still brewing. My pour over was great, not too strong but still super smooth and flavorful. As a coffee snob who appreciates interior design, I'd say Saltwater is approved! As a vegan I love that they have non-dairy milk - oat milk is my favorite in coffee! I'll definitely be coming back to try the fancy lattes and maybe even a chagaccino! My friend and I came for the $2 weekend flat whites deal - totally worth it because the flat whites are super smooth! Let me start with the positive.... it's nice to have a nice establishment on this corner. This is where things can be seedy and rundown despite the high end real estate. In the 17 years I've lived here there's never been anything in this space. The interior is lovely, light wood and white marble surfaces. Gentle folksie music helps create a calm atmosphere. The baked goods look delicious and here's where things took a turn... I asked the counter person about the matcha croissant and got a barely audible response paired with no eye contact and the attitude that I was bothering her when I asked another question about the croissant. The service here is with a Snarl and snark. I live in NYC, right up the block and I'm not sure I would come back. Because you expect some Sort of humanity in a coffee shop. As with other Aussie inspired coffee shops they have very cool drinks on the menu. I would be interested in trying them but not sure I want to deal with the attitude.
