This was our first visit. Cute place, on the smaller side. Lots of people out to dinner on a Thursday night, that was a good sign, a couple tables were open so we had no wait. Husband had the calamari appetizer and the Tutto di Mare with the tomato-based sauce and he enjoyed it. I liked the idea of the pasta pollo pepperone but requested sausage instead of chicken, they did the swap no problem. I cannot tell you how good this was. There were thin slices of garlic throughout and a generous amount of pasta. It did have a slight spiciness but wasn't overwhelming to me. I used some of the bread from our basket to soak up every drop of sauce. We tried the Romano dressing on our salads and that was good. Our waitress was friendly and attentive, answered any questions we had and checked in on us. Food was timed well between appetizer/salad/dinner. We used to go to their Birmingham location before it turned into Sals so we had been wanting to try this one. We came on a Saturday night and it wasn't too busy. We were seated quickly and the food came out fast. The salad and bread was a good starter. My husband got the chicken tosca and I got the lasagna. I had order envy over his chicken. If I come back I'd get that over the lasagna. The lasagna was okay but it didn't seem melted or cooked enough. It was luke warm and the cheese was a little rubbery. Not like fresh or melty. Horrible..first of all, it was dirty in there ( and outside too, with a 7-11 cup perched on the window sill by the door. Not cool,) My chair was full of the prior diners dessert or something. Okay, got that wiped off; although she wasn't happy to do it. Ordered the scallop appetizer, well, they were out of scallops. Onto our next choice of calamari . It was good. Bread for the table was good but I get where people don't care for the cold dipping marinara... yeah, no. We both had salads. They were good. Now onto entrées. Yikes. Salvatore is a good value spot. Dinners are relatively inexpensive and you get a salad, bread and entree. For four adults we got out if there at $120 with tip. Food is decent, could use some additional seasoning but not the worst. Staff is good. Overall I'd recommend! read more

Packed for lunch on a Thursday - literally no parking spots available. Sat at the bar and the waitress was very attentive. The Pasta Pollo Divano is delicious with creamy sauce, mushrooms and chicken. My favorite is the salad with creamy ramono dressing and the bread with olive oil. Amazing Italian food. Be prepared for leftovers! We've come here a bunch of times (before and after the Salvatore in downtown Birmingham changed) to get various different Italian dishes. I usually get the same thing of the Chicken Pollo (pretty much chicken alfredo) but my wife has gotten a few different things on top of the Pollo, including ravioli and chicken parmesan. The Minestrone soup though, is something that we've not been able to find anywhere else. A thick, chowder-like soup packed with vegetables. Service is always really speedy, we receive plenty of bread throughout, and the wine select pairs really well with the dishes we've had. This is my favorite Italian restaurant in Michigan. Try the pasta Fresca (add chicken), the pepperone and the divano. Every entree comes with a soup or salad. The creamy romano dressing is homemade and the minestrone soup is too. read more

When i'm craving classic italian fare with an emphasis on quality, i always go to Salvatore's! A convenient spot for metro Detroiters, this place should not be overlooked! The ambiance is classy, but not snooty, and always clean. This is a great place to come on a date, or with family. My favorite is the eggplant parm. between that and their top-notch pasta there are definitely some great options for vegetarians and meat eaters alike. The restaurant itself is small and cozy. The service was pretty bad - we had to ask multiple times for the basics (bread and water) and she almost never checked on us. The food was great, for the most part. The bread was delicious. The tomato soup was chunky, not something I'm used to, but still great. My date got the shrimp scampi and loved it. I got the Chicken Tosca. The chicken and sauce were great, but the side of pasta had been left under the heat lamp too long so it was dry and mealy. The chicken marsala I ordered was covered in garlic, and that was the only taste I could get. The bread was served cold. The way they could make this place better is not overloading the food with garlic and giving it the flavor that it deserves. if i'm, ordering marsala chicken, i expect to get a hint of wine not a garlic clove the entire time. waitress was nice, but I won't be back there. read more

Just had some good food here but if you go, do not get here at 8pm even tho they close at 9. They had the music off by 8:30 and the bar lights off by 8:45 making half of the place dark and of course the rustle and bustle of a staff focused on getting the f**k out as close to 9pm as possible along with the nice(not) smell of cleaning solution that smacked us as we finished our food at 8:50pm. So while the service was efficient and the food good, do yourself a favor don't go here past 7pm because its not a comfortable relaxing dining experience. I've loved the Salvatore family restaurants for 30 years. The food is consistently delicious and the service has always been outstanding. In our busy world we almost always use takeout but the restaurant is clean and comfortable. Went here for the first time in many years, 21 to be exact. This was the place my wife and I went on our first date, back when it had no liquor license. It was good then, but with so many new restaurants to try in the area, we just never thought to try it. That was a mistake. The restaurant is still charming. The decor is comfortable and not overwhelming. The staff incredibly friendly. We had the grilled octopus to start...incredibly yummy!!! My wife had the salmon which was perfectly cooked and delicious. I had the veal parmigiana. $18.00 and delicious!! This would, and does, cost 4 times as much at other restaurants in town. The side pasta was the only downer, tasty sauce but very watery. We split the apple cobbler dessert which was really great. My wife had some wine and me a coke. All this for a great price. I understand they couldn't seat us all at the same table and that was fine but they could have told us before ordering that they wouldn't split the bill. The main dish I ordered was the eggplant Parm not good at all it was a bit cold but I was willing to look past that the eggplant was bland little to no flavor the pasta it came with was the same cold and no flavor and guess what ...... the sauce was the same bland and cold. I believe in second chances and will come back sometime in the future and order something else but for now 3/10 do not recommend. read more

A very pleasant surprise! Very pleasing decor. The wait staff was extremely pleasant and attentive. A glass of wine was a very generous pour. The salad that came with my dinner was really very delicious, crisp, and the creamy Italian dressing was absolutely delicious. My husband's Caesar salad was perfect and the croutons were House made and they were delicious. My main course of chicken Tosca was very plentiful, cooked perfectly and delicious. My husband's veal dish according to him, was really really good. When you sit down you get a basket of bread, bottle of olive oil and a plate of their Arrabiata sauce, which is heaven! The only thing I can say in a negative way is the bread should be heated up. That is a pet peeve of mine in any restaurant I go to. It doesn't take much to put the bread in the oven for three minutes. We will be back again, it was a very delightful and delicious experience. read more
