This is a Korean restaurant that serves more sushi than it does Korean food. As if you could not tell from the name of the restaurant being "Sam Oh Jung" and the Hangul writing everywhere. It is a family owned restaurant that is kept insanely clean considering the wear and tear on the building. Note, this is right next to Publix and their sign just says "SUSHI," not Sam Oh Jung. Their sushi is very fresh and consistently good. Their house rolls on the special menu are their best, but will set you back at over ten bucks each. The most popular roll, which is my favorite, is the "K-roll" (cream cheese, fried shrimp, covered in shredded crab salad, Panko breadcrumbs, scallion, spicy mayo, and eel sauce). They also have an excellent Sake selection. Hands down, best sushi in Bradenton and a comfortable atmosphere. They also have a few Chinese American food options for those that are not into the good stuff. Sam Oh Jung's Korean food is alright if you are want a quick fix and do not have the time to drive all the way to Tampa. Not many Korean items to choose from. They only give 4 banchan (Korean side dishes) and the prices are average of $16.99-21.99 from Jigae (stew) to Bulgogi (beef BBQ). Warning, they do not have lettuce wraps with the BBQ, only rice and 4 banchan. My favorite is the Soon Dubu Jigae (veggie, tofu, and beef spicy stew) and their Dolsot BiBimBap (hot stone bowl w/ rice and veggie toppings). The only noodles that they have are Chap Chae (glass noodles with veggies and pork), no JaJangMyun or cold noodles. I wish that they had more Korean options, but there are really not that many people in Bradenton that would order it. Just so you know, they only serve food that they would eat personally, and feed to family and friends here. So, the quality of the ingredients is always excellent. read more

After leaving Kroaky's Karaoke we needed some food and I REALLY wanted some Korean food. Unfortunately by the time we would get to to Tampa everything would be closed so we decided to check this place out. We ordered Galbi and Dak Bulgogi and both were excellent. The Dak Bulgogi was flavorful, but the Galbi was just amazing. I was eating every little piece of Galbi I could and savoring the flavor because it was heavenly. The prices were about average, but they seem to have some pretty good lunch specials so maybe I will return and have it again for lunch. Service was good and they were patient with us even though we got there pretty late. We decided not to have sushi because we were so hungry, but maybe next time we will since it seems to be highly recommended. read more

I was a little skeptical about the quality of their sushi/fish at first because I tend to be a little more picky about my sushi though I ended up trying their salmon sashimi and a couple of rolls and they surprised me. The texture and taste of their sashimi is so smooth/silky and melted in my mouth. The rolls were quite delicious as well I don't have many negative things to say about them either because the fish tasted fresh as well. I would say if I had to say something negative about it is that the actual presentation of the sushi could be worked on though they are rolls so to me that doesn't matter much. I have yet to try their Korean/Chinese dishes it also seems like they Pho and a couple of Japanese dishes as well which I'm very happy about. Granted I have to try them first but I have no doubt that they will be delicious too. I highly recommend the Thai Tea WITH boba. Most resteraunts that I've been to that have boba options tend to not be good.. the texture and taste is always off but this place has chewy boba that is not too soft or not too hard which happens most of the time. The Boba Pearls texture bounces back in your mouth like a rubber band. I know a lot of people might not care about this but it definitely makes me appreciate this resteraunt even more. I ordered the salmon and eel nigiri which was not bad but I definitely had better. I got the seafood noodle soup as I realize this is the only korean restaurant in town. The dishes on the menu is mainly Chinese dishes and limited on Korean food choice. The jam pong that I ordered was lacking flavor and the seafood is definitely like a value package from Costco. The ingredients did not taste fresh at all. The noodles was not what I'm used to at different Korean restaurants, they were using udon noodle instead. It was just not what I expected and I definitely had way better tasting of the things I ordered. read more

This is my go to place for sushi. If you never had the cucumber special you need to treat yourself. So refreshing. My lady won't touch seafood but loves the short ribs. As with the other restaurants we eat at here in Bradenton, I find Sam Oh Jung par for the course. It is the best at what it does in the area. SOJ advertises itself as a Korean restaurant. However, with the proliferation of Asian cuisine, it is no surprise that they also offer Japanese cuisine (mostly sushi) and a handful of Chinese options. They do not use fresh meats or fish products, instead opting for cheaper alternatives. It's too bad, given the handful of seafood markets nearby; you think they could actually make some quality dishes. The opportunity to have Bul Go Ki in small town Florida is a nice treat. It's not that great, but it will do in a pinch. I have eaten here a handful of times and they do not seem to be very consistent with the seasoning & preparation of any of their Korean main courses. For example: sometimes the food has a great deal of sauce, other times it is sparsely sauced. The Chinese fare is straight forward and fairly limited. They offer Kung Pao and Sweet & Sour as well as Lo mein and Fried Rice. For the price point ($13-$16) of these dishes, I wish they were a little better. As with the other food, it tastes like just about any average Chinese restaurant in any given town. The Japanese dishes account for the majority of appetizers & a handful of main dishes. They offer gyoza and a variety of tempura options. Main dishes are standard fair - mostly teriyaki. The sushi is middle of the road and fairly non-distinguishable when compared with any other restaurant of this ilk. They do have spicy conch, which is a nice addition. You don't find that in too many parts of the country. The staff is always pleasant, the décor and atmosphere are casual, so overall it's a fine experience. I'm just glad they can pull off Bul Go Ki with some success. read more
