I came into Sam's to kill some time and grab a beer and.. it turned into 4 beers and a burger. You are greeted with an old dirt bike holding the door open. The place is decorated with kind of a old tavern feel, buck hunter, old motorcycles and oil cans. BB guns and trucker hats on the wall. Not a big selection of beers on tap so I went classy with a few tall boys from the troft filled with Pabst and Rainier. Decent service all the bartenders are tatted and absolutely beautiful and friendly. At this point of the night the Mariners start losing and I start feeling the Rainiers kicking in and decide to order the 50/50 burger ($12). Oh My Gawhhh! It is so good. Reason I came here was for the Bloody Mary garnished w/ a slider...I was not disappointed, one of the better bloody mary's i've had on Cap Hill. Using Bakon Vodka in it was a nice touch. I also had the 50/50 burger, which was pretty good. Who doesn't like bacon mixed into your burger patty? The bun got pretty soggy w/ the grease though. Service was excellent, the bar tender was friendly and was happy to oblige when I asked them to turn the TV on to some basketball. I had the pleasure of attending Sam's Tavern on one of their grand opening nights. When I think Tavern, I envision over-priced greasy spoon food and mediocre drinks. That is ABSOLUTELY NOT what Sam's Tavern has to offer! Sam's has the most amazing menu, and it's reasonably priced! You can get a "Notorious P.I.G" which is ribs, bacon, seattle slaw (whatever that means) and a caramel sauce on a bun (from a local bakery)!!! WHAT?! They seemed a bit under staffed. It was the 4th of July so maybe they gave people they day off. My boyfriend had the Groupon so that's how We heard of this place. It was a pretty good deal and He doesn't regret purchasing it. It was fun to see all the dollar bills on the wall that were decorated. Our server was very pretty and nice until she found out we had the groupon when it was time to check out. When my boyfriend and I said we had the groupon, she all of a sudden seemed irritated and walked away before it had loaded on my boyfriends phone. It took almost 10 mins for her to come back and click redeem. Her attitude seemed very forced to stay positive after she found out we had the groupon. So I am reviewing the burger and my lunch experience I had last week. This was my first time I have been in(at least that I remember lol) So I was craving a gourmet burger...and living at the bottom of the hill, I didn't really feel like walking all the way to the Deluxe... And 8 oz Burger Bar is just plain over rated...and too expensive. So I came in here and got the Juicy Luicy burger...which was just phenomenal...especially for the price...along with $1 cans of Raineer. Their burger is better than anything I have ever had at Red Robin for the same price...and I would say the best burger I have had on Capitol Hill(although Quinns is pretty good...but quite a bit more expensive if I recall right) The owner was there and he is a super cool guy...the type of fella who you want to support and see do well. So I originally went to Sam's a couple months ago right before a show at Neumos. I've always wanted to order the bloody mary with the slider so I did and I was not disappointed. That night I ordered the nachos too and they were delish. I liked this place so much that when my friends were visiting from Hawaii a couple weeks ago, I took them there and I ordered the Bloody Mary again. Just so you know, the bloody mary with the slider is like a meal. That's why I didnt order anything else like I did when I first visited. i went to Sam's Tavern on a weeknight for a burger and a beer. The burger was average with my only compaint being that the bun was a little on the cold side. The bottomless steak fries were excellent, and exactly what I had hoped for. The service was a little slow because there was only one girl serving food/taking orders/pouring drinks in the semi-full bar, however she was very nice and never made us feel like we were being neglected. The decor is lodge-style similar to Linda's, which doesn't seem like a coincidence. Most of the music seemed like alternative radio hits from 10-15 years ago, which is not really my personal taste. A jukebox with a diverse assortment would be a nice addition. I am curious to check out a happy hour here sometime, and hope for a few more burger options down the road. read more

Went to Sam's on a Saturday night, the atmosphere was pretty good- comfortable with a good mix of people, but nothing going on. Ordered a classic cheeseburger (sloppy,but tasty) and wings (very small wings, with a side of celery & green onion? ), regardless not worth the $12 & $10 charged respectively. Apparently the bartenders also serve as the waiters for the entire establishment , so OVERALL service was lacking... this could have been off-set if the 2-bartenders & backs would have honed in to pay attention to their clientele, rather chit chat with only each other. I would give 4.5 if I could. I didn't like Sam's at first but didn't bother to kick them back then because it just isn't worth being super negative all the time. But Sam's is fine - great even - because it is what it is. The service is nice, the girls are obviously there because they're pretty but there's nothing wrong with that. The food is now consistent and it just feels like it's becoming the comfy, divey place they wanted to be in the beginning. I'm a local and I like going there now. The blatant disrespect we experienced here on a Friday night was appalling and extremely uncomfortable. My friends and I came here city reopening weekend - every bar in Cap Hill was packed but Sam's had no line outside which should have been our first indicator that something was wrong. Once inside, my friend and I waited patiently at the bar for almost 20 minutes while the white male bar manager with glasses completely ignored us. My friend kindly asked him if he could serve her next and he shot her a dirty look. Other patrons around us even asked us why we weren't being served. Not sure what the bar manager thought we were saying but he then had the audacity to call my sweetest friend rude and entitled and refused to serve us. He then called security to kick us out - simply for being at the bar and kindly asking if we could be served next. I guess this was to be expected for a dingy establishment covered in American flags and us being the only Asian girls in the bar... Security was super nice though! read more

Smh. I'm disappointed in my experience here. I wrote a review before and deleted it because I felt like I should just let it go but its a couple months later and I'm still pretty disturbed. I came here for the Mayweather fight. Everything started off great but halfway through the fight everything got way too out of hand. Within one hour, a beer can was thrown into the crowd by the owner who had gotten way too inebriated, and hit me square in the face. I was just lucky the can was only a 1/3 full or God knows how much worse my injury could have been. I felt like crying I was so embarrassed and the people there who had seen it happen were shocked. Do you think the owner apologized? No. The owner disappeared. 20 minutes later a couple of girls, who someone later referred to as "the owners favorites" started hassling me out of no where. Like I cannot make this up. It felt like it was a practical joke or something. They came and stood infront of me and then start pushing me backwards slowly over and over. It was so surreal. Mind you, I'm a grown woman, a business owner, a nurse, and a software builder. I am not a child. Obviously at some point I needed to make them stop and said "hey, you want to trade spots? Because you can't melt into me hun." My exact words. The girl, she has shoulder length brown hair was store bought dirty blond streaks and looked about 18,19 if even, flew off the handle and started cursing me out and I waved her off and just ushered them behind me. It wasn't enough, they kept going. Again, I'm a grown woman. I was there with my guy and ignored them and to be honest, my face was already swelling and hurting at that point so I wasn't really focused on them. Other people in the crowd started yelling at her and another dark haired girl on my behalf because they were yelling loud enough to disrupt the fight. Legit, 20 minutes later security walks up to me and tells me the owner has asked that I be removed. Wow. Just wow. I paid to see the fight and ended up being insulted as a black woman in a room of white people. I'm sorry to throw up the race card but there was one black guy in that whole bar and he was bro'd up and not team Obama so the vibe at that point was obvious. The owners wife was also there and saw the whole thing and just stared at me when I asked her to do something about it. I said "did I do anything" she said legit says "no" and I said "then do something" and she points at the security and shrugs with this exaggeration like she's trying but they can't hear her. I was so disgusted. She thought it was a joke. Just wow. I hate to say it, but this is not a culturally appreciative establishment. I was so hurt and disappointed. Even the security elected to escort those girls out because they were so rowdy when they were trying to ask me if something had happened. They literally did not know why they were being asked to escort me out. They literally said "i don't know, he just said get her out." When I asked why I was being asked to leave. These people are not right at all. They just are not. I thought Seattle was a beautiful place until i encountered this horrible spot. Just know that you are subject to any kind of treatment they deem fit for their entertainment if you are a minority race when you enter this place. I am so disgusted and disappointed. read more

I reserved their upstairs space for my birthday party. Abby was the woman who helped us all night and she was amazing from the second we got there! I've never had such amazing service from a person, especially with that many slightly intoxicated people in a party. Great drinks, decent food, *ok* music. But I will only give this place 4 stars for if you're reserving their upstairs space for a private party. And I would recommend doing so! We got there at about 8pm, and I didn't leave the upstairs area for a couple hours. Until I finally had to use the restroom. Which is where I (and multiple chick friends of mine) were harassed everytime we were in line/in the bathroom. For example, a guy hit on my friend and he tried to start a tiff with her because she nicely declined. He then proceeded to yell at her through the door while she was in the bathroom. Another time a guy was kicking the door and shouting the whole ONE AND HALF MINUTES I was in the bathroom and called me a bitch when I walked out (ok bro??? good for you.) Both times there was a guy that seemed to look like security? He'd been at the door a couple times when I had gone to my car and back; but he was close enough to notice the assholes doing so and paid no mind. He didn't seem too busy either. I understand capitol hill is just madness and I love that. But, when it comes to not being able to use the restroom without being harassed by lame seemingly violent frat-esque dudes and no one does anything about it was pretty uncool to me. For that, I give them in general 2 stars. We also had a couple problems with drunk rude guys/girls coming into the party and getting offended that they couldn't stay. Would be nice if there was someone looking out for that. Thats my first experience at Sams. Sams is awesome as long as you have the upstairs to yourself and don't try to use the restroom! read more

What I like: The staff let us reserve the space upstairs for the whole group for two hours. It ended up being a bit too cramped but more people than anticipated showed up to the meeting. What I did not like: The beer selection. It royally SUCKS. Every beer was bitter. Happy hour pricing. When I buy a shitty tasting well drink at happy hour, that I said I DISliked from the first sip (she didn't allow me to just taste; she poured a whole damn glass and watched me try it), I do not expect to see a FIVE DOLLAR DRINK on my tab. Food. No vegetarian options on the happy hour menu, so I ordered the $8 nachos which is on the regular menu (lame). It was unlike any nachos I've ever had... With clumped feta and caramelized onions. Just weird. I wasn't expecting that. I ended up trashing over half of it, as the feta was just too overpowering. I didn't like that our group was split into two rooms either, thanks to the wall upstairs, but that was more *our group's* problem rather than the bar's. It made things hard to converse. The wobbly table in the far room made many people migrate to the other room after beer kept getting spilled. Someone might want to fix that to prevent future accidents. Other than that, meh. It was warm and cozy. The place is quite small, so would be a good place to meet for a date or smaller meeting-type setting. Just not for large herds like ours. read more

I feel like that says something. On the other hand I do know a thing or two about a good burger and this place for sure lands my top 10 list for Seattle. Now again, this is a dive bar. Which means grungy sometimes dirty dark tight spaces and cheap domestic beers specifically PBR. Which don't fancy my refined pallet for microbrews. But that's still a thing. My biggest draw back about this place is in the several visits I've had here the service has always been sub par and lacking urgency to check up on us for drinks. They can make any one of their specialty burgers with a veggie patty substitution, which I enjoyed.
