Wow. First visit and blown away by their food. Gyro so good it made me rethink my love for Nick's Food To Go altogether. But let's start at the beginning. I had no idea Samad even existed until a friend demanded we go for lunch. It's hard to spot unless you're looking for it, and once inside it looks awkwardly empty. It's actually fair to say it looks sketchy in what is already a sketchy-looking strip mall. But sketchiness of aesthetics is irrelevant if the food is awesome, and Samad's food is, indeed, awesome. We tried a couple of gyros, the spinach salad, hummus, falafel, and fries. With the exception of the fries, which were serviceable but generic, everything was excellent. The little details such as the way the tomatoes were sliced in the gyro, the freshness of the pita, the way it's tastefully grilled, the feta cheese applied in the correct ratio, all signs of great skill, craft, and pride for their food. After scouring Yelp for a unique spot to eat, we came here for lunch to celebrate my anniversary with the company. This place was a hidden gem! It was tucked to the left of an old shopping center. This place is both a restaurant and a market, selling sauces and spices among other goods. This mom-and-pop shop has a variety of selections to choose from. When you walk in, you'll see three whiteboards - one for wraps, one for kabob plates and house specials, last one for appetizerss, soup and salads, and desserts. After you finish your meal, you'll go to the register to pay. We opted for the gyro wrap combo that came with both fries and tabouleh salad. The sauces for dipping were phenomenal. My favorite was the extremely garlicky one, called toum. Gyro was made to order - it was delicious - large and filling. Tabouleh salad was appetizing, fresh, and was a nice contrast to the gyro. It's been sooooooooo long. I stopped working in Sandy Springs over a year and half ago and haven't been back to Samad since. It was my weekly lunch spot when I worked the 'springs. I'm never up this way and for some crappy reason haven't made it a priority. I finally popped in and ordered my go to chicken schwarma with added toum (garlic "sauce") and a side a of fries. Damn, it was good. I asked for a side of toum hoping they would give me 2, but alas I was only given one. Sad Stephie. Sandwich was stellar and held up perfectly for the ride home. Well upon entering it didn't seem to busy around lunch at 12:15. As I approached the cashier the menu was easy to read. They also seemed to have reasonable pricing. A gyro and side with a drink for $7 or the same as previously stated with 2 sides (instead of 1) for $8. I decided on the fish wrap and it was absolutely delectable! I love low key off the beaten path type of places because the food delivers without a whole lot of fluff. Samad does exactly that. Samad is part grocery store, part restaurant and 100% goodness. I believe this an husband and wife team and I am here for a family business because they treat their customers like extended family and share the love through the food. This came with sliced lamb on top of a salad with a side of hummus and some pita bread and tzatziki sauce. HOLY COW that pita bread was the most plush bread I have ever had. Plush! When was the last time you described bread as plush? Right. Get you some now! The lamb, the hummus, the salad all was fresh and so dang tasty. The lamb was tender and plentiful. The salad was lettuce, tomatoes and red onions was crisp with a light dressing. The hummus was creamy. I had the tzatziki sauce but my friend got a chicken plate that had a side of garlic sauce. GET THE GARLIC SAUCE as if your life depended on it! I mean I love garlic and you should too. If not stay away. But it you love garlic, you will need this sauce in your life. We had a mixture of lamb, kabobs and chicken on the table. We all had the pita bread and we all ate our pita bread. You order at the counter, then take your seats. They will either call out your order for pick up or bring it to your table. You pay at the end when you are finished with your meal. I always order the chicken kabobs with rice and substitute the salad with hummus and pita bread. They have the best hummus. It is so creamy and perfect to dip the pita bread in. Their chicken is charred nice on the outside and savory on the inside and they give you two kabobs with each order! Their rice has the best flavor to it. This was until I came to Samad! I was swept away by the food here! The Arabic flavors were on point and finally a place that knows HOW to make a shawarma. I can taste the freshness of the garlic and the tahini in every bite. This cute little mom-and-pop place definitely knows what they are doing! The food for me was NOSTALGIA of Dubai.. It is just so so good! You need to experience this to know what I'm saying. My review doesn't do it enough justice. By far THE BEST Mediterranean food I've had in America! My husband and I love this place. The food is good and it is always crowded. We always get the gyros and sometimes if I am able to get there for lunch I will. But sometimes I feel like the place can use a facelift and maybe new friendlier staff. The owner (Jamel) is really nice and friendly. But sometimes the other staff seems distracted or rude. The young lady Mia likes to be on her phone. I get it she is young, but if you're at work, you are at work. It's kind of weird, I would have given better stars, but the rudeness is why I took off the 5th star. The place has an ancient feel is why I took off another star. My boyfriend and I came here for the first time Sunday night. And it was awesome! We were pretty excited from reading the reviews, and we were not disappointed. We had 2 gyros, 2 fries, 2 drinks, and an order of baklava and it was $18. Very reasonable. The gyros had fantastic flavor and were right off the grill. The fries were amazing and not too salty. The baklava was super yummy. Some of the best I've had. Not too dry and not to many nuts. The owner and other employee were super helpful and friendly. Samad managed this flawlessly. Other meals, kabobs we good but a bit less stellar. The dining area was clean and best described as 'early, modern school cafeteria'. Really not much in the way of panache. The wait staff was friendly and helpful and i would really give this place 3.5 stars if I could. It is tucked away behind construction and had my co-workers not introduced me I would have never known that it was there. I would consider it a Mediterranean deli. You order first, get served, and pay after you dine. I ordered one of the plates and for around $9 got a Mediterranean salad with chicken served with hummus and warm pita bread. It was to DIE!!! It was also served with whipped garlic, which is garlic and olive oil whipped together. It is really good, but you will definitely need to brush your teeth afterwards:) The staff was very friendly and warm. They were helpful when I asked questions. They do sale a few imported snacks that are reasonably priced. The only downside is that the space itself needs a little makeover. Everything else is wonderful!!! read more

"There are two kinds of people - Greeks, and everyone else who wish they was Greek." -- My Big Fat Greek Wedding (2002) I love some fabulous Greek/Mediterranean food, so when fellow Yelper and friend Angela M suggested getting this off the Bookmarked list, I was all in. Look, it is in an odd location (sketchy looking, practically empty strip mall that I wouldn't dare frequent after dark), but once you take the plunge you will be glad that you did! We walked in and were greeted by a lovely lady who asked if we had been in before. When we explained that we were newbies, she immediately handed us a plate of 4 samples of the salads and 2 forks for us to have a taste - and we were hooked. We were so busy munching, we forgot we were supposed to be making a decision! We tried the chickpeas, beets, tabbouleh and red cabbage salads. We talked to our hostess about what we liked and she made suggestions accordingly. I picked the mixed kebab plate which came with rice, pita and a salad of my choice - I went for the tabbouleh (as I could not stop eating the sample). I selected a chicken and a kefta kebab. The platter also came with a larger than life pita, rice and a grill roasted plum tomato. Angela and I also opted to order (upon suggestion of our new friend) the fried cauliflower. Before our food came out and we were still munching on our salads, we were brought a sample of the fresh off the stove lentil soup to try (and 2 spoons). Wow, they were really treating us like family. Also delicious, not salty, or grainy, but the right level of lentil and broth. Kind of thin, but with a little tooth to it. Next, the cauliflower - nutty and rich with the perfect texture - almost like it had been over roasted on 800 degrees for a minute. So flavorful, it would turn any hater of this cole vegetable into a full-on cheerleader. As if the lunch couldn't improve, our entrees arrived. It was a massive plate of food and I thought to myself "why have you over ordered?" But everything was amazing - the chicken was moist and tender, intertwined with onion and green bell pepper pieces. The kefta took up the entire skewer and had the perfect smoky yet sweet flavor. I picked at the rice, and while it was also delicious, I preferred my carbs come from the pita! Thankfully, Angela and I had both read Stephie's review and heard about this garlic sauce. We both ordered it on the side. We were warned of its potency, but after 1 bit, you don't give a damn. It is PURE garlic heaven. I was dipping my meats in there, spreading it on my pita...I wish I had more things I could have put in the sauce as I had a little left over (Angela polished hers off). But let me tell you - you will want to steer clear of humans the rest of the day unless you have mouthwash or a toothbrush handy! I was so full by the end of the meal that I thought I might have to roll myself out of the building to my car, but I was sure I would be returning again...and again. read more
