Read this before you decide, it's worth your time: Same Day Air was hired through my home warranty provider. A gentleman named Omar came to my three-story townhouse in Hayward to diagnose an issue I was having with air flow. I told him my home has three zones, and air should not be coming out of my first-floor vents when the second or third-floor thermostats were on and my first-floor thermostat was off. He determined the issue was related to my zone controller, and explicitly said "found shorted out zone board, need to replace." He quoted me $549 plus tax and labor. I didn't want to pay that at the time, and had other more pressing issues to deal with, so I passed. Recently I took the time to look at the zone controller myself because I read online that zone controllers shorting out is very uncommon. I have no experience with HVAC systems, but I thought it wouldn't hurt to look and visually validate what Omar was saying. I simply looked at the board, and it was clearly flashing in the normal state (according to the manual sitting next to the controller). I then turned on the different thermostats in my home and watched the LEDs light up accordingly. It was clear that the board was functioning, so I got a second and even third opinion, due to the high cost, from Artisan Air and Service Champions. Both HVAC technicians came to the exact same conclusion - the zone controller was FINE, and the real issue was that the damper for my first floor was not closing 100% and leaking air. This made sense, and neither technicians could figure out why Same Day Air said my zone controller was shorted. In summary, Same Day Air would have charged me $549 (plus tax and labor) to replace a perfectly good zone controller, only to find out that I needed to replace an air damper as well. This wasn't a complex job, and fairly straightforward for two different technicians from two different companies. Read the other reviews. If multiple people are saying that Same Day Air tries to replace parts instead of properly diagnosing issues, then there might have some truth to it... UPDATE 1.12.19 (RESPONSE TO OWNER COMMENT ON 1.10.19) Sam (Owner) - Yes, as mentioned in the review this work was done a while ago (8 months sounds right). When Omar came to the conclusion that the zone controller was "shorted," he was well aware that the home warranty provider (First American) does not cover this issue. He didn't need to look at the policy to verify. And it is true, most home warranty providers do not cover zone controllers or dampers. This is why he quoted me the $549 (plus tax and labor), which I would have paid out of pocket. You should speak with him to understand why this situation occurred in the first place. You admit you made a mistake, but hopefully, you are re-training your entire staff to ensure this does not happen again. Honestly, I do not trust your statement regarding that "you do not pay for our misdiagnosis." In my opinion, I would have paid for the fix of the zone controller and eventual damper and told that both were malfunctioning, whether this was intentional or in error. I feel cheated, and will not be using or recommending your services in the future. read more

I called them to fix my AC in September 2018. They told me that I was low on Freon and they'll fix the leak and I have to pay for the Freon. I paid about $700 for the Freon. The AC Unit started having cooling issues again in April 2019. The same gentleman came out to look at the issue and told me that it's out of Freon and I need to pay $1000 for it. He told me that the work they do is warranted (maybe) for only 3 months. Very disappointed that they never fixed the issue the first time and wanted another $1000. read more

TOTAL SCAM!!! They don't even try to repair or fix your problem, their goal is to sell you a new unit. "Technician" diagnosed my furnace in 30 seconds, told me parts are not available because the unit is 35 years old and parts are no longer available. Didn't bother to even look for parts and tried to sell me on a $5,300 new furnace. My gut told me something was not right so I called another company and not only did they diagnose a different part being broken, they were able to fix it right away for less than a $75 part. When the repair guys tool bag has hardly any tools in it but he has a pre-filled out form with all the costs for a new furnace, that should be a clue that they are not really looking out for your best interests. Reply to Same Day follow up..... tried calling both phone numbers on your invoice, both gave busy signals multiple times throughout the day. Other Company diagnosed and replaced spark box, said it was a fairly inexpensive part. Agree furnace will eventually need replacement, but for now, right before Christmas, I as most people probably would, prefer the option of repair over a rush replacement without shopping around and getting other quotes. Your guy made it clear that parts were not available due to the age of the unit, said nothing about the condition or other things you mentioned. Hashem came by to conduct a pre-season air conditioning check up. He was friendly and appeared to be quite knowledgeable in his AC knowhow. I was quite concerned about having rusty water coming out of the AC system. He checked and assured me that the rusty water came from the AC's drain pan. He even showed me pictures of the drain pan as I would never have the opportunity to see the drain pan as the pan and the rest of the system is up in the attic area. I had service from these guys through my home warranty service. My home warranty contract should cover the cost of repair and replacement, but these guys inflated over 3k of "NON-covered" cost for the following things: - gas stop & gas line switch - insulation - fluepipe modification - electrical upgrade - sheet metal & duct work - mastic tape - title 24 testing The lady picking up the phone can't tell us any information about our service, other than that we have to pay 3K and that if we have any questions we need to contact our home warranty directly. The little information they did give us directly contradicted with the information we got from our home warranty. I called up a few other HVAC companies and ask them for how much these misc minor things would cost, and they were all EXTREMELY surprised that SameDay is asking us to pay over 3k out of pocket for these standard procedure. I'm convinced that SameDay is trying to rip off the customer in addition to charging our home warranty company for an overpriced amount.
