Went to Sammie's South. Waited to see who was tending bar for a few minutes. Nikki was tending bar, before she even said hello she informed us we couldn't sit at a spot at the bar because it for gamblers, which was strange but fine. She told us this three times as we just wanted to stand near to order drinks and food. We ordered wings and a beer. Nikki was very rude. Immediately got on the phone with her boyfriend (?) arguing and went in the back to argue on the phone. Yelled I am at work you idiot. Eventually 35 minutes later Nikki came back and delivered a single chicken strip cut into three pieces (wrong food). Still not a soul sitting at the bar where we were told repeatedly we couldn't sit. I was at the Sammies location on Libert Rd. South Salem. There were 2 ladies there that appeared to be regulars and the bartender seemed to be chatty with them but barely gave me the time of day when I sat down to get my beer. Horrible service. I'm only going there when Tommy is working there. He's cool and engages with the customers. If you don't engage with everyone that comes through the door, then you should find a different job. twice we have gone into Sammie's to enjoy the football games but the bart gal who comes in for evening shift seems unable to offer friendly service to table tops because she is overwhelmed with shift change or what ever else she can give as an excuse. last night she wouldn't take my card to keep the tab open because she had "too many cards". She also said she was preparing Food when I asked for French fries. OLCC violation. Both times I have visited I felt like I am an inconvenience and not very welcomed it's feels very confrontational when we try to even accommodate her by coming the bar to order. She complains to her customers about "too much to do during shift changes." It is not very welcoming and I witness the people who sit at the bar get her undivided attention. And she's very nice and cordial to the people at the bar. But if you sit at a table lookout, you are an inconvenience And she has too much to do at shift change to offer service. read more

I would recommend people spend their money literally anywhere but here. The girl Nikki is mean & im not sure why she has a job. Well, I've heard things. I've heard they treat their employees like crap & don't listen to this customers complaints. Nikki refused to make me food because she had just come on shift. I watched her be completely rude to every single customer that she didn't already know or that didn't tip what she thought was appropriate. I was there on Sunday and wrongly said the name of my "waitress/bartender " wrong...it's Nikki, not Jenny, and from what I can see from other comments, this isn't the first time she has gotten negative reviews.... soooo much more happened that evening that I didn't mention before, but I feel the need to put it out there. The women's restroom door was locked, and had the "vacant" sign on, but it would not open. When I asked Nikki about it, she told me to use the mens room, so I did. . Not one hour later, I noticed her going into the restroom (the women's) without incident, so was she just being the witch that she is, or had she gone in there and fixed it (I HIGHLY DOUBT, AS SHE WAS TOO BUSY FLIRTY WITH THE MEN AT THE ESTABLISHMENT)... ANOTHER thing is that I told her that I couldn't eat a whole portion of chicken wings and asked her politely if she could please put my order on two separate plates... With the absolute fuck off face, that she seems to carry well, she said "I'll see what I can do "....wtf, all you have to do is put the order on two separate plates, which BTW, I offered to pay extra for, if needed. I've been there twice. Was ignored on a slow day both times. The bartender was far more interested in the conversations they were having with the regulars seated at the bar. We were the only other people in the bar. We even went to the counter and had to wait for the conversation to end. Both times. They got our food order wrong the first time we went and our drink order wrong the second time. Their fish was average but overpriced. Stopped in here on way home from seeing friends band play, was a great time. Found this place on yelp by looking for the dive bars in the area, we passed a few going to this place but found it to be a very welcoming little place. We wanted to sit at the bar but people were scattered in such a way that we couldn't sit together. People at the bar said we'll move and they invited us to join them. We had a great time talking to all the regulars and the bartender was just a sweatheart! The place has interesting decor and the this was also another place with only just the one bathroom. Other than that, this would mostly likely be a place I'd hang out all the time if I lived in this area, and I would definitely enjoy the atmosphere if I were to frequent here. They have some video lottery but you wouldn't know it unless you went behind the barriers they have up. Thats kind of nice, I hate seeing those machines! Without a doubt Nikki is the worst bartender I've ever come across. Terrible attitude and service. It's almost like she goes out of her way to be rude to anyone that she doesn't know or care for. She slaps her ass like she's riding a horse around the bar because apparently she thinks patrons like seeing that behavior. It along with she is utterly disgusting. Her language and sheer lack of professionalism is why we'll never return while she is working. Great place but terrible person. Tried Sammies out for the first time yesterday. Great little place for a bite to eat and cheap drinks. I ordered the Fried Chicken meal. It was huge!! I brought 1/2 of it home. (It was a bit too much of fried food for me.) Bartender made me some strong sweet fruity drinks for $3 a piece. Can't gripe about that one bit!! I found this place to be spotlessly clean and trendy in decor. The lottery machines are against the wall but they have these oriental like partitions up to give the area privacy. I bet a Wii bowling league would work well here with the set-up and TVs that they have. :) read more

I was very happy to learn a bar was opening up across the street from my apartment at the time. Oh happy day now i don't need to be responsible with my drinking because i can walk there! Not so much. My upstairs roommate at the time told me of the bar. Apparently he went in and ordered a beer only to have to pulled straight into his glass, not at an angle. The owners gave him free drinks to show them how to pour a beer. Yup. The inside is slightly more interesting than the inside of a cardboard box. A cardboard box doesn't have keno and lottery machines otherwise, the same. On the upside it is cheap. Don't expect to meet anyone of interest. Pretty decent chicken wing deal on Monday and Friday nights and free soda which is nice, the bar itself is clean and overall a nice set up for such a small place, TV size is good for watching games, one large in the center and two other on the sides generally showing different games. Having said that what absolutely kills this place is the some of the clientele and the service from the staff. I found this place to be highly unprofessional and the demographic to be a little uncomfortable, you can find wings just as good anywhere else and there really isn't anything that separates this bar from any other "dive-bar". My recommendation is until this place makes some drastic changes I would avoid it. read more

Wow!!!! I know sammies, black jacks, and cheers is owned by same ppl. I love hole in the wall, small bars. Two of the three places are great. The customer service is what gets me coming back to any place. Love the energy and the ppl working there. However, i gave sammies a try because i hadn't been in there yet. Sadly, very very dissapointed. The girl working....nikki i think, SHOULD BE FIRED! I was there when a new girl had started that night. This nikki chick working was so mean to her co-worker!!! And i was not impressed with her customer sevrice. She came off as very snobby amd as if she owned the place So sad when the other 2 bars do so great. I'll stick with those 2 from here on out. I just recently went there during a game night, and I know it was busy. The bartender who called her self Sarah (I don't think that's her name) but that's what she said after I walked out because of her "you don't look good enough for business " attitude. Made me feel really uncomfortable! I asked for beers on tap and I was sitting where I couldn't see, she said here they are. I had asked here ma'am I can't see them, she then resorted me to a menu half way across the bar and begun having a cordial conversation with the man exactly right next to me. Went there to grab a pint and waste an hour while my car was being "tired" at LS. Had the chicken wings and a pint. Food was OK, Beer was cold. Service very attentive. Noise level was moderate. There were a few well seasoned power drinkers there with their cans of PBR (must have been the special - that what ther all were sporting). Video lottery machines present. Not a place for a large group but fine for a smaller group to go to. read more

The bartender did a great job pouring my drinks all night, the prices were fair across the board and I absolutely loved the enviroment. The food was great and the staff were very pleasent from the second I walked in the door. So this WAS 1 of our favorite spots for a great not water down drink..BUT today I was appalled by the service and conduct toward a friend. One of the regular bar fly made a horrible comment to a friend, and then the staff not only stopped serving a friend but made them feel sooooo un welcome, cuz they had to stick up for the piece of shit regular who made bad comments toward a friend. I will NEVER step foot back in this establishment again. If i were the owner, people would be fired!!!!! So after today they get a half star.....good strong drinks, but appalled by service. I have to totally disagree with the first reviewer! Went to Sammies yesterday, and found it to be totally perfect. The decor is sleek, modern, leather, tasteful. The bathroom is CLEAN! with hooks for your purse, so you don't have to set it on the floor, or worse yet, hold it in your teeth. Lottery machines lined up, with cool 'room dividers' to somewhat keep them private. I give Sammies a big thumbs up! Yay! read more

The decorations of this place are nice and very cozy. The price for drinks is good. Tried the food and wouldn't go there just to eat. I was a Sammie's supporter from the beginning...always clean, restrooms that are private and separate by gender, servers who are friendly and capable. The prices are great with $2 beer & $3 well drinks. Now they have added BlackJack's and Cheer's to their offerings, both of which are also in the South Salem area, equally clean and fun. I'm not a gambler so I can't comment on that other than to say that they seem well received by others, I've seen an occasional wait for the machine of choice I guess. The bartenders are experienced both at making drinks and food. Mostly bar type food but I've had the Clam Chowder twice this week and on both occasions, found it loaded with clams...imagine that! A great place to meet friend, watch a ball game or do some business. Brighten your day and treat your eyes with a stop at any of these three pubs...someone is hiring well. read more

Ok so I've just been driving for 16 hours from Los Angeles and this place had good reviews and I walked in and it looked so cute and I was ready to just sit and chill with a beer. The bartender immediately demanded my ID while eyeing me suspiciously. I pulled it out, gave it to her, and she gave it back saying she won't accept it and ordering me to get out! I kept asking why, and she wouldn't tell me at first, just said, "you aren't gonna win this" and told me to get out. I thought maybe because it was from California. Then she said because it's broken. The back corner is bent backwards so she had a point. But nobody has ever had a problem with that. Even a police officer who gave me a ticket. Anyway, I can give her that. But then I said I would show her my passport and she refused! I felt like a criminal or something! Wanted to cry when I left. I don't understand treating someone like that. Also, I'm 36!
