Smoked Salmon and Sweet Potato Fries

As BBQ connoisseurs, we try BBQ in every town we visit. Sammy Sue's does not disappoint. Excellent service and delicious food. The brisket and smoked salmon were fabulous.

First, the food was delicious. Had the outside sammy, and it was fantastic. Wife had the brisket and salmon. She said it was great. The server was a ding dong. There was one other table occupied while we were there. She was more concerned about who was going to do what at closing time, rather than serving customers. (It was 4pm when we got there) Since it is a BBQ place we asked what are the best side dishes that they have....her answer, SALAD. Prices were wrong on their menu. Outside Sammie is $14.50 on the menu, $16 was charged.I wasn't going to argue about $1.50 with ding dong waitress. The ramp going up to the entrance was covered in ground in filth. You need to take a pressure washer to it once a decade.

Full rack of ribs and Mac & Cheese

This place was recommended to me from a friend. This place will NOT disappoint. The salad was great it had good greens not just Iceburg lettuce. I had a full rack of ribs and they were excellent and so was the Mac&Cheese. I look forward to coming back here. The service was Awsome she as on top of everything. The food came out fast. I can't say enough about this little gem.

Don't let the outside fool you. We were the first couple in the dining room on a Saturday at noon but it quickly filled up. I had a delicious pulled pork sandwich and my husband had a grilled chicken sandwich. We both enjoyed our meals and our server was fantastic!

    Cajun Ranch Smoked Wings

Oh my word. We're here for a friend's wedding so we are not local. We decided to try this place out. We got their wings. We're pretty loyal to a wing place in Virginia but this place blew it out of the water! The Cajun ranch smoked wings were what I hope is served in Heaven! This is a cute gem of a restaurant. I'm so glad we grabbed an early supper here! Friendly waitress and AMAZING food!

    Bbq sampler

I was in town for work and saw this place. Anything with BBQ in the name grabs my attention. This place was busy at 5pm on a Thursday as well. I was greeted in a prompt friendly manner and service was friendly and timely. I got the BBQ sampler because why not. The meat did not have a strong smoke flavor (which I prefer) but the texture and flavor were both very good. The ribs were just under fall off the bone and were meaty. The brisket was a little bland but it was lean which I prefer. Pulled pork is chopped fine. The big winner were the smoked wings. The creamy sweet habanero really compliments the smoked flavor. Sides were also above average (mac n cheese and slaw). Baked Beans had a bit to broad of mixed beans for me, the only thing I didn't finish. The wings were so good, I got an order to go which was a discount for Thursday wing night. I would definitely come back.

Worth every penny and every minute. That's the key word: minutes. Don't rush this one. Give yourself the time to settle in and enjoy it. This isn't a get-in-get-out spot, and it shouldn't be. The food demands your full attention. If you can make the trip, do it.

Well, last week I re-visited my favorite restaurant in celebration for our daughter passing a…read morecertification exam. We started with the Bread Service which was a wonderful contrast to our last visit of the red cornbread. It wasn't a typical Focaccia as it was a crusty mini bread loaf topped with a sea salt I believe. The butter seemed standard noting it was listed as cultured sea salt butter;however the Housemade Ricotta, Strawberry Red Pepper Jam in the mini jar was spectacular. I didn't find any notes of strawberries but it had cherry tomatoes, whole garlic and olive oil in it. We weren't asked for our drinks request so we stuck with water(small oversight). Interestingly, our server came back to our table and said that she didn't have the beer available that I wanted. First, I never ordered a beer and not asked and second, I don't drink. So now, our appetizers arrive. The Carolina Squash Blossom was okay, but I'll pass as the crunchy texture was odd and there wasn't much blue crab present. The Calamari Fritti was definitely not popular with my family. The dish included Jimmy Red Corn Meal Dusted Crisp Calamari & Fried Green Tomatoes, Crumbled Goat Cheese, Crisp Ramps, Calabrian Chili-Sorghum Aioli. Despite the appealing ingredients the dish really lacked seasoning and salt. My grilled 16 oz bone in pork chop came pre-sliced which I've never had done with a pork chop but plated well. It came with purple cabbage purée and a sweet and sour root vegetable that tasted just like mashed sweet potatoes. The dish included ramps that seemed fried but really not edible. The application of this wild leek didn't seem to fit the dish as it was very coarse. My wife enjoyed her New York Strip Steak topped with Rock Lobster and a side of Gnocchi & Parmesan Crème. My college daughter ordered the New York Strip Steak also but her was extremely over salted. They re-fired a slightly smaller steak and that came out perfect and delivered by the Chef apologizing. Service recovery goes a long way and they redeemed themselves with dessert. Thanks for converting my opinion as 50% of my review and experience is based on service and or service recovery. We will be back definitely.

It's a big restaurant off of a country road with plenty of parking. As of two weeks ago they were doing work on the highway that was kind of unpleasant with grated roads and lane closures but it looks like it will be done soon maybe.... Anyway, it's a large space with a gift shop and shabby chic decor that all appeared to be for sale since everything has a price tag on it even in the restaurant. The service was pleasant enough. The menu has fairly straightforward cafe like offerings of sandwiches and salads. I wanted something light so I opted for the cesar salad in spite of my reservations when it said tomatoes and olives were on it. Weird but whatever chicken, lettuce, croutons and cesar dressing still felt on brand so I went for it. This is not a cesar salad. It was a salad with balsamic dressing of some kind, toasted bread with the crust cut off and a cold chicken breast. And, it comes with bread but I was told they didn't have rye so I ended up with sourdough that was also not sourdough and the waitperson didn't bring it until I was mostly through eating my refrigerator cold chicken. Just, yikes. Additionally, I still don't know how there was rye for my sister's sandwich but I wasn't allowed to order it with my food. As for her lunch, the pastrami was fine but with a lackluster amount of meat. The French onion soup was the only thing that felt reasonable with quality and price. All in all, I think the snack bars or even grocery stores in the area/ Amish country appeared to have better offerings. I wouldn't recommend this place for lunch. The gift shop was cute and reasonably priced so maybe check it out for that but that's it.

Amish Country at its best!…read more This is a gem of a restaurant. We found this place thanks to the great reviews on Yelp. We were not familiar with Baltic, Ohio, yet we were so happy we found this place. The staff was so friendly and welcoming, it felt like we were eating in someone's home. Christian, the manager, could have not done anything more to accommodate us. He really went out of his way to enhance our experience. Our waitress, Arlene, had told us she had been there for several years and you could really tell this by her ability to help us through the menu. She wanted to make sure we were completely satisfied. The menu was one like I had never seen before. Everything from a large breakfast selection to Wagyu and Prime steaks. I had the best Ruben sandwich I had ever eaten ( that is saying a lot). We also shared the Wagyu filet with hand cut fries and sweet potato fries. The steak was sautéed with fresh mushrooms and onions. The steak was seasoned to absolute perfection. You have to try this. I have posted pictures of the menu. Don't forget a side order of homemade mac & cheese. Their prices are extremely reasonable considering the quality of the food and the impeccable service. The decor is perfect. Simple yet very pretty. They even have a nice area (living room style) that we hung out in until our table was ready. This Amish restaurant is the "best of the best". I will be back in this area next year and will be sure to make this my go to restaurant. Bravo to the staff and chef, well done.
