After being in the car for over 10hrs on our drive back from a great vacation, we decided to trust the reviews for some BBQ. WOW! This place holds true to the reminder, "never judge a book by its cover." The food did NOT disappoint. 4 of us shared 2 samplers and we had more than enough food. Do NOT sub out the Mac and cheese! It's sooooo creamy and delish! The meat in the ribs just fell off and melted in your mouth. Brisket was perfectly cooked and the pulled pork adequately sauced without drowning in it. We will be dreaming of the cornbread for a long time to come. Our waitress was very accommodating with all of our questions as first timers and very attentive. My friend was craving pretzels with beer cheese hard from here! So, we had an early dinner last week. I felt weird going through a door that looked like a backdoor entrance but that's the right way inside. It felt dim and tight upon entering and took me a bit to get my eyes adjusted. The bathrooms are near the entrance. There are different classic signs and license plates on the walls. They even have an eating challenge posted on the wall!! Drinks: Lemonade had a concentrated sweetness that stuck to your tongue where I wished that my ice melted faster! I may have sipped an inch throughout the whole meal. My friends had a mountain dew and an iced tea. Appetizers: Fried pickles and pretzels with beer cheese, of course! - Fried pickles: The sour dill pickles were in chunks battered in what almost looked like fried chicken batter. They weren't the hard and crispy type but a softer form. They fulfilled a craving dipped in ranch sauce. My friend asked for horseradish on the side to mix up her sauce. - Pretzels with beer cheese: I couldn't get a picture of the full pretzel basket as hands were all over them the second the basket touched down, tearing them apart. These looked like long, brown soft pretzels shaped like breadsticks. The cheddar sauce had a noticeable hint of beer. These were nicely warm and salted. I've only had pretzels and beer cheese a few times before (with sadly, overly chewy and salty results with gloopy cheese), and if we had another basket, I would've happily tore into them too! I wish I could snack on them now! ^.^" Entrees: - Beef brisket with baked beans and red potato salad: I requested the brisket lean and it came without any chunks of fat! The brisket was very tender with a background of smokiness. I wish it were stronger in flavor. The accompanied BBQ sauce is sweet and felt like it either needed a touch of vinegar or heat added to add another dimension (or just a little less sweet with other spices added); it reminded me too much of a bottled brand. Without the BBQ sauce, it was hard to eat the brisket as you needed some moisture to swallow, and the meat alone didn't make me salivate enough. I think here you're supposed to rely on the sauce. I wish there were other sauces for this. The sides came in small dishes. The beans tasted like they had the same BBQ sauce in them. They did have a bit of brisket shredded in them. The potato salad was watery and tasted like a simple macaroni salad. The sweet cornbread was a bit mushy with corn kernels inside. - My friends had a steak kabob, beef brisket, sweet potato with cinnamon and brown sugar, cottage cheese, and chicken flatbread with BBQ sauce. They enjoyed their meals. Service: Our waitress was nice, helpful, and joked with my friends as they were happily reminiscing about their previous experiences. She refilled their drinks promptly from the dispensers by the wall. (Are we not allowed to touch those? They are out in the open.) No matter what, I try to squeeze a second meal out of anything I order, so we also got to-go containers. It seems like you go to the register near the front to pay. This was my first brush with Ohio BBQ and I'm still curious! I wish there were some more savory options, but maybe I just need to mix up an order, or see about if their wing sauces could kick it up a notch. Overall, it's a good bellyfiller. I went in the winter and it was freezing in there. I am normally warm and I am not one to complain about the cold so believe me, it's freezing. The appetizers are good! Got the pretzels and highly recommend. The mozzarella sticks were average mozzarella sticks. I got a burger which I ordered medium well and it was rare. It was some type of hot burger (I want to say the firehouse) and it was a total disappointment. My husband got the wings and he loved them! They were smoked and fell off the bone. This place is amazing. First time there we shared a huge sampler. The chicken wings start off smoked and then they add the sauce. By the way the sauces are homemade. Our first trip to Sammy Sue's was very good, we had the chips for an appetizer, they were very crunchy and sweet. My wife and I both got the sample platter containing, wings, ribs, pulled pork and brisket with sides of baked beans, macaroni & cheese and coleslaw. The ribs were delightful, the platter came with a little loaf of cornbread that was awesome. i ABSOLUTELY LOVED THIS PLACE. The BBQ was over the top good. I think I just sampled perhaps the best ribs I have ever tasted, including my own. I sampled the Brisket and ribs. Both were out-freaking-standing. I guarantee you this is the best BBQ in a large radius in this little area of Ohio. The only reason I didn't give them 5 stars is: The baked beans were horrible, they tasted like canned beans - not homemade. Please, take my advice... take your burnt ends from your brisket, add them to the beans, and smoke the beans for 4 hours. Good BBQ beans are a necessary part of the overall BBQ experience, and this was the only let down aside from no tap beer (although they had a great bottle selection). I love BBQ. So I was really excited when I saw this place had 4.5 stars on yelp. Here's what I found: Pros: the staff is very nice and the place is pretty cool. The Mac and cheese was tasty and the beer was cheap (#winning). Cons: Brisket was extremely dry. For me, brisket is how you judge a BBQ place. Anyone can do pulled pork. Brisket is an art. This place failed at brisket. Only one sweet sauce. The BBQ chips were bad. Don't get them. Not worth avoiding the place over, just don't get it if you go. The thing that will cause me not to return to this place was this transaction: they have a chalkboard with beer specials on it. I ordered shock top off that list but they were out, so I ordered the next thing on the list which was Leinenkugel's. I get my check and I was charged full price. I tell the waitress and she tells the manager. He tries to change the price in the computer and can't. That is the end of any effort on his part. I had to pay full price. Note: the beer was still really cheap. If you want ribs in sweet sauce and cheap beer: check this place out. If you're a BBQ snob: this isn't your place. read more

The "dining area" was dirty and looks like it hasn't been updated since Debbie did Dallas. The next day I had the runs all day long. Apparently, someone thought this was funny because a few weeks later I was given some leftover wings and told they were from Hog Heaven. Our first time - we had the St Louis ribs, and the brisket. Sides of loaded baked, barbque beans and slaw. The ribs are excellent. The house sauce is flavorful but not overpowering. My brisket was good - just a little dryer than I like with sauce on the side. The slaw is creamy which we like. Beans were filled with pulled pork and very BBQ tasting which made for a little overload - but they were still very good. Service friendly - beers are just plain cheap. Where can you buy a domestic bottle for $1.50 with dinner even if it is Miller. Overall it's a keeper just wish it was closer. read more

Heard great things about this modest BBQ spot. Headed there at an off time (3:00). The outside was a bit run down. But that didn't deter us!! There were three other tables dining at that time. Cherry waitress. Very simple dining room. Clean. Different. We ordered the pulled pork Sammie with fair fries. It took about 30 min to get the order but we understood as it wasn't lunch and everything came out piping hot. This was one of the best pulled pork sandwiches I've ever had. The fries were really good. And lots of them!!! One of my favorite things was the grilled bun. They did it just right. Tiny bit of coleslaw. As far as BBQ, it's by far the best we ever had. Every time we get visitors, they request Sammy Sue's. I really can't blame them since we are there once a week. Everything we try is exceptional and very very reasonable. It's a great place to come and the atmosphere is wonderful! You can tell it's a great place because all the staff are happy and so so friendly. Everyone is so personal and attentive just like family. The owner operators are special individuals as well and treat the staff with dignity and are not above coming out and spending time with the patrons. Food: Ordered the pulled pork half order with sweet potato and Cole slaw for sides. Cole slaw was fresh and the sweet potato was baked perfectly. The pulled pork was smoky and tender. Requested two buns with my order to make sandwiches, which is not included with the order. The buns were buttered, slightly toasted and served with my order. Service: Service was good. Food was served within a normal wait time. It was a Monday evening when I stopped in, not crazy busy compared to the weekends from what I was told by a local couple there. The owner/chef served us after learning we were new to the place. Overall experience will have me coming back to this place. A local couple gave me the inside scoop that this was a family owned and operated place. You can definitely tell through the food that the owner/chef is paying attention to his food and the rest of the staff follow suit. The pulled pork was outstanding, the ribs were mediocre, and the smoked spicy blue cheese wings were out of this world! Oh....Brisket is indeed an art; you either have it or you don't.....friendly advice, in order to keep your reviews positive....Don't order the Brisket. Well, lemme be fair, I was at the bar. Smoked chicken wings are absolutely amazing!!! Brisket sandwich had sauce and grilled onions and peppers. It was delicious. I got a side of fire sauce and kicked it up a little. Super impressed!!! I have become quite a bbq critic from living in the south and I expected to not be extremely impressed by Sammy Sue's but they proved me wrong! They are absolutely legit and perfect for this community! I had the smoked wings with their signature sauce-SO MUCH SAUCE-AMAZING!!!! They do not hold back! And their Mac and cheese was off the hook!! Cannot wait to go back and try something new! And the spirit of the owner when she picked up the phone when I called was so welcoming! Could use some upgrades in decor, booths etc, but what they lack in setting they make up for in flavor. I usually hate smoked flavor, but their's is so yummy. Especially love the smoked salmon, though they could use a few more ingredients on the salad. They have baked sweet potaotes!! Yay!! Good drinks too. Tried the cranberry gobbler, a seasonal drink.
