I was told Sammy's is the best place for pizza in the area, and decided to explore it. Walked to in to what felt like a typical Italian restaurant, one where the owner greets you by name. While he didn't know my name, he waved hello from the table he was sitting at and quickly jumped to take our dine in order. Keeping things simple, went for the pepperoni pizza and it had the perfect level of sauce, cheese, and crust. How do I know it was good? There were no leftovers. read more

I met a friend for lunch today at Sammy's. It was my first visit. They have quite a large menu. You place your order at the counter, and they bring your food out to the table. I intended to order a salad, but I was distracted by the pizza they had already made up that was in the warming case by the register. You can order just a slice or two, and the pizza slice size was very generous. They had a loaded broccoli pizza, with fresh chopped tomatoes and some red onion. It was cheesy and delicious, and I still got the veggies. I gobbled it up while we visited & I forgot to even take a picture. I'll be back for sure. (We decided to have our monthly lunch group meet at Sammy's, so I was back there again today. They have great salads, too. The older gentle man whom I believe is the owner is highly unprofessional and rude. Not only was the food cold and underwhelming but while the dining room was full we witnessed him yelling and getting extremely disrespectful with a young delivery driver. Highly encourage everyone to stay away from this place. read more

I ordered delivery, but I didn't even get a chance to review the pizza since they left 3 of my pizza off of my delivery order. On top of that the wings had no sauce or flavor, the meatball sub had no flavor and the bread was soggy, and lastly the Alfredo was disgusting and had no flavor. The workers couldn't understand us. We heard great things about the Italian food but our grandma style pizza was okay. It tasted a lot better the next day. Walk in and just grab a menu to see all their goodies and what to eat. You smell all the classic warm aromas when you walk in. Had to try the garlic knots since everyone have been raving about them. I give them a 4/5, they are great bite size snacks and a little salty and brushed with garlic. Marinara sauce is more on the thinner side, which I personally like as a dipping sauce. Make sure to eat the knots when they are hot since they cool quickly and are a little more crunchy/dried out as they sit. I ordered a calzone stuffed with meat and cheese, and watched them make it to order! It just came out smoking hot from the oven. I wish I had asked for them to brush garlic butter on the top of the calzone, but it is a crispy crust if that's your thing. It is stuffed with meat and cheese, definitely a bang for your buck. Everything would have been a star higher (4/5) if the person taking my order had washed his hands before making my calzone. Or used gloves, either or. My husband and I were driving around looking for an Italian restaurant after spending a day on Main Street. We saw Sammy's and decided to try it. I'm so glad we did. Sammy was near the front door and introduced himself. That gave us a bit of the personal touch that we like from family-run establishments. The layout and decor were nicer than expected for a casual restaurant. I ordered the shrimp and scallops fettuccine and Husband got the veal parmesan. My husband grew up in New Jersey and is very critical of any Italian restaurant that we go to, so I held my breath once the food came. He tasted it like he was a professional critic - a little slice of veal parm by itself, then a bit with the red sauce on the pasta. The reaction was a head nod. Yay! He said the sauce was a bit richer than he expected, but he liked that it actually had flavor. The rose sauce and overall flavor was wonderful on my pasta dish. My only knock is that my fettuccine was a bit overcooked because it was too soft. Neither of us were fans of the bread that comes with the dish. I love this place, every time I visit Annapolis it is a must stop, great food, great taste and a great value, I read a couple of these negative comments and it reminds me that some people have no taste and no class. yesterday I took 2 friends and had another awesome meal, the fried Calamari is fantastic, I also had to have a piece of their cheese pizza, for dinner I had the shrimp, chicken and veal trio my friend had the chicken Roletini, and his wife had the spaghetti with meatballs, finished with an awesome desert combo, can not wait to visit again, worth the trip without breaking the bank read more

This is the best pizza in Annapolis. The friendly and familiar faces of the employees really have made this place feel like a welcoming establishment in our neighborhood over the years. I went in once to try them out and just bought the bread and it was delicious, so I called them to place an order. He hung up on me after I asked the usual inquiries to get rates on what I wanted to get. He said I was asking too many questions. I just asked how much a small and large pizza would cost; when I asked how much the pizza and breadsticks would cost, he got agitated. I also asked what time they closed so I could make sure I could arrive in time.. He ended the call. To behave in this manner, as though he owned the restaurant, the person on the phone must have felt entitled. When I followed up, he claimed that I had asked him too many questions and had a bad attitude. For me, this encounter was a huge turnoff because, in my opinion, customer service comes first. Stopped back after some years to give them another chance. By way of background Sammy's Pizza Kitchen used to be a Squisito's franchise. To my knowledge there was a falling out and this location rebranded - same owners and pretty much the same menu. Quality is off. My previous rating was "Meh - two stars" for one of their pasta entrees and dinner. My current rating of "Meh - two stars" is for their pizza. I got a three topping 14" pizza (black olives, bell peppers, and onions). $2 more than the same order at nearby Roccos but $2 less than the nearest Squisito's. No excuse for the amount of grease on their pizza with just veg on it. Had to come from the tomato sauce. Cans? I don't know but it wasn't good. The crust was just off. The atmosphere is industrial-cafeteria. You order at the counter and your food eventually shows up, usually after wandering around the "dining" area for a while. A disappointing experience. Brought the leftovers home and blotted the bejeepers out of them with paper towels. Trying to think if they are worth trying to do something with or just pitch. Throwing the leftovers out is in leading option. Conclusion: back to Rocco's for pizza in Annapolis. I'll order from Domino's, Papa Johns, or Ledo before going back to Sammy's. read more

Super hit or miss. I usually get the Grandma pizza. Sometimes it's great and sometimes tastes like it's been sitting out for a while. We like the gnocchis, as my son will devour them. The toast they serve with meals is actually toasted unlike the previous owners. I had a garden salad that was done right with tomatoes, cucumber, carrots. And my hubby had pizza. The dou was nothing to write about. It was a bit undercooked for my taste. The meat lovers was very laden though, he enjoyed it, but found he filled up quickly on it. The pepperoni was blah. But that may have stemmed from the white undercooked crust. We will eat here again. In Annapolis, if you're craving Italian food, chances you aren't going to head to an unsuspecting strip mall and try your luck. There are plenty of spots on Main St. that deserve your attention. However, a friend suggested trying Sammy's Italian Pizza Kitchen in Eastport and I did not regret taking her advice one bit. We started with an order of the Garlic Knots because when we stepped up to the counter, they were on display and looked delicious. They were served piping hot with a side of marinara sauce for dipping. My friend is a sucker for Gnocchi so she went with the Gnocchi Sorrentia. The gnocchi was in a rose sauce with ricotta cheese and then topped with mozzarella. The dish was delicious and the sauce was creamy. When you think of Italian comfort food, this dish should come to mind. I love meat sauce, so I ordered the Fettuccine Bolognese. The egg noodles were well cooked and the rose sauce was the same delicious sauce I loved that the gnocchi was in. I was thrilled with my order. Next time I'm in Annapolis and craving Italian food, without a doubt I will head back to Sammy's Italian Pizza Kitchen to try some of their great pasta dishes. read more

It was the Friday after Thanksgiving, and we were meeting my sisters-in-law for dinner. We opted for something up near them, since I was *so* not in the mood to clean the house. My husband went to Yelp (heh, I've trained him well), and he discovered Sammy's Pizza which had all our requirements: kid friendly, have booze, and not be crazy expensive. It was awesome! They offered several options for the pizza crust, from normal, to thin, to deep dish, as well as other options besides just pizza. The garlic knots that we ordered for appetizers were delicious, and the pizzas themselves were pretty good. Personally, I love thin crust, and their thin crust Margharita pizza was lovely. The sauce was tangy and not overly sweet, the mozzerella was of the round ball kind that they sliced thinly, which provided just the right amount of cheese and didn't weight the crust down, and the basil was fragrant and fresh. My only two complaints is that since it was our first time here, when we arrived and were seated, it would have been nice if the server/hostess that seated us, told us that we were to go up to the counter to order everything...including the beverages (i.e. the wine). So we sat around for a while before we realized that we were supposed to go up. Secondly, when the food came, we had a lot of extra plates (from the appetizers), that they didn't clear. It was fine that we moved them ourselves, but we weren't sure where to put these dirty plates (they were ceramic, and we didn't spy a station nearby), so we piled them on the table next to us. Eh. All in all, the food was good, the kids didn't have a chance to get all picky about the meal...and I got wine. So I call it a success. Will definitely remember to come back here the next time we need to have dinner up there - there were many other options on the menu, so I look forward to trying something besides the pizza (which really was surprisingly good!). read more

The best pizza restaurant in the Annapolis area! If you're not willing to go to NY for pizza on a Saturday night, come here instead :-) This place is a homey little (not so little) Italian pizzeria that became a little obsession of ours for a couple of months...sadly, I have had to restrain myself and decide not come here more than once a month because I am now busting out of my jeans. Not good! Their pizzas are excellent! The dough is thin, but not as thin as NY pizzas. That may turn some people off, but I like my pizzas to be able to hold all the toppings when I pick it up. My favorite pizzas are the Margherita, Capricciosa, and Meat Lovers. The toppings are plentiful and rest assured that they use good quality ingredients. We always order the fried calamari, because it makes us feel like we're back home in Monterey. They throw in the breaded squid heads and bodies in there, so it's extra awesome! If you're squeamish about squid heads, I suggest ordering something else. Oh, and don't get me talking about their garlicky smack-you-in-your-face marinara dipping sauce topped with fresh basil. Out...of...this...world! If you don't feel like pizza, I recommend the fettuccine medditerraneo with it's heaps of scallops and shrimp. I must warn you though, it's very heavy. If you want to pretend like you're eating well/healthy (like me), order a Greek salad. Don't order another entree though, because this is definitely not your side Greek salad from Round Table Pizza. This thing is gargantuan! I should probably stop writing this review, because I'm drooling...like an Italian mastiff on a 98 degree day kind of drooling. We came here to grab some pizza for Friday night. I like that they have a great selection of different pizza varieties as it's often too tough for me to decide what toppings would be best. Having a solid list of preconfigured choices is better for me. Because of that we got a nice variety (two pizzas both split with different halves, for a total of four varieties). We ordered pepperoni, cheese, white pizza, and Grandma's. The price wasn't cheap, but neither was it unreasonable, ~$16 for an 8 slice pie. When I left I got the quick peek at the pizzas to ensure they were correct. At the time they looked fine, when I got home I realized one of the pizzas was not what I had ordered. There was no reason to go back, but I was disappointed none the less. The service was very good , and everyone was helpful and friendly. I even think I may have heard some Italian drifting around the kitchen. The pizza was decent. Nothing I'll be craving, but certainly a good option for grabbing some pizza with the family. So while this won't be my new pizza joint, it will likely be somewhere we mix in for variety. read more

Tried it for pizza, I won't be back. So, I realize I'm in the tiny minority who LIKES anchovies so I ordered them for my pizza... pepperoni, mushrooms and anchovies. Mistake. In fact ordering anything other than pepperoni was a mistake, but for the life of me, I can't figure out why the anchovies came in a little cup instead of being baked into the pizza. Why??? Why not put the pepperoni in a cup??? I might have ignored that except for the fluorescent yellow color of the mushrooms that I've never seen before. Not only was the color off-putting but they had been marinaded in something that didn't sit right with me. So the whole pizza, minus a half piece, went into the trash... it wasn't worth driving back to return it or have it re-made. The sauce was OK, but the crust was rubbery and the pizza just wasn't good... and those tangy mushrooms REALLY ruined it, I wish they'd put the mushrooms in a cup.
