We had an excellent dinner at Osteria 177. Everything we ordered was incredibly good. We started with the Ostriche Alla Fiorentina, Polipo Alla Piastra Su Crema di Peperoni Dolci, and the Caesar Salad. The baked oysters were rich and flavorful, the grilled octopus was especially well prepared, and even the Caesar salad stood out rather than feeling like an afterthought. For our entrées, we had the Branzino al Forno and Cappesante con Agro alla Siciliana. Both were outstanding. The branzino was perfectly cooked, and the sea scallops were just as impressive. The restaurant was very busy, but surprisingly quiet and comfortable. The atmosphere felt upscale without being stuffy, making it a great choice for a date night where you can actually enjoy the meal and have a conversation. The service was excellent throughout the evening--professional, attentive, and a great match for the quality of the food. There really wasn't a weak dish in the entire meal. Osteria 177 delivered one of those dinners where everything simply worked: excellent seafood, great service, and an upscale atmosphere. We would definitely return. read more

I had a rigatoni with sausage, truffles in a cream sauce and every bite was absolutely delicious. That was followed by a Chicken Saltimbocca which was so tender and delicious, a knife was not needed. Every bite melted in my mouth. My wife had an oyster appetizer and a seafood entree I believe Cioppino which she loved. Osteria is consistently delicious. The service is impeccable. Dimitri is an incredible server. I have never had anything here that was less than delicious. The ambience is terrific, industrial art-deco (if there is such a thing). I can say without hesitation that Osteria 177 is the kind of restaurant that you savor every morsel. First time here for a birthday celebration. Overall a great experience and service was wonderful. Started with the arugula salad which was nicely dressed and flavorful. Had the seafood pappardelle in saffron cream sauce and it was so good. Very rich sauce with a hint of saffron and lots of seafood; hunks of lump crab, shrimp, and scallops. Because we were celebrating a birthday, they let us bring in a cake which they cut and plated separately very nicely, including a raspberry(?) sauce drizzle which was a nice touch. read more

Food: Really good. I got the boneless rib eye. I normally get it cooked to a medium, but the waiter and a friend suggested medium rare. I ate the whole thing! Honestly though, I feel cooking it to a medium would have melted and incorporated the fat more. Plus I like the consistency of a medium more, but that's me. I heard no complaints at the table (7 people) Service: I really like JohnMario (Jeanmario?). He was very attentive in a super busy restaraunt. This place was 3/4 full in a Tuesday night! People like this place. Service was top notch. Ambiance: Osteria 177 has a bit of a hipster vibe. Modern yet rustic. I had dinner at Osteria 177 a couple of weeks ago when I was in Annapolis for work for a couple of days (I decided to stay overnight rather than driving back to Baltimore and coming back really early the next morning and decided to treat myself to a nice meal)! It was a weekday night and they were pretty busy! But I was able to snag a seat at the bar, where the service, people watching, and company were great (I ended up talking to the couple seated next to me for an hour or so). But the food and wines were also great. I started with a Caesar salad with added anchovies, which is a classic I love. Then I went with one of their pasta specials, which was a penne with smoked seafood in a cream sauce, which was also delicious. They had plenty of great Italian wines, as well, so I had to have a couple of glasses (of Vermentino, if I remember correctly). Just in the heart of Main Street, Osteria is a great place for a dinner, whether solo or with a larger group. Definitely a gem in Annapolis's historic district. read more

What a gem in Annapolis! We were staying near Annapolis over Labor Day weekend for our wedding anniversary and delighted we found this amazing Italian restaurant. We went there based on the reviews and it did not disappoint. We did not have reservations but they kindly squeezed us in (never hurts to ask nicely!). Our server explained everything to us in great detail. The menu was a bit overwhelming since there was so much detail and we wanted to try so many things. We started with lobster bisque and the grilled octopus appetizers. The cocktails were terrific. My husband had the Chilean sea bass stuffed with crabmeat (amazing!) and I had the seafood with squid ink linguine. Squid ink linguine can come out all wrong or too seafoody smelling but this was so delicious. It made me think of the same dish that I had in Venice. The setting was fun and modern - had rich colors. The owners obviously love Italian actors and Italy - so do we! We are looking forward to taking our sons back to this spot with us next time. We live in the DMV and we've been to various good Italian places in DC but this was top-notch. (Better than some DC Italian big name places which shall remain name-less.) We went to dinner on Thursday and enjoyed the delicious food and friendly service. My wife had the homemade mushroom filled pasta with sage butter sauce and the arugula salad with Gorgonzola cheese. I was a little hesitant to try the lobster bisque due to the addition of sweet potato, but I definitely enjoyed it. I also would re-order the filet with peppercorn brandy sauce. Dinner here was absolutely incredible. This is an upscale restaurant with a nice, swanky vibe. I had a Belvedere Martini with blue cheese olives to kick things off along with an order of the meatballs which were fantastic. The star of the show, however, was the main course paired with a nice Pinot Noir. I tried the pistachio crusted lamb chops and they were absolutely amazing- so tender and flavorful, the pistachio crust made for a unique flavor; I was 100% happy with my choice. Our first time trying osteria 177 and it blew our expectations away! We tried the bufala campana, Wagyu ravioli, pappardelle zafferano, and tiramisu. All of them were 10/10. I'm convinced you could order anything off the menu and it would be amazing. The pasta was cooked perfectly al dente, each sauce was flavorful and perfect amount. The seafood was fresh, sweet, and perfectly cooked- even the scallop and rock shrimp (which often times gets overcooked) they did it perfect. Mid meal I already knew we would be coming back to try more of their dishes. Of course their complimentary bread was also delicious (crispy exterior, warm spongy interior) and served with high quality EVOO. Thank you Osteria 177, we will be back soon. This was our first visit to Osteria 177 and I sure hope it won't be our last. It was phenomenal! We began our evening here with cocktails at the bar which was small in terms of seating, but relatively large in terms of top shelf selections - especially of bourbons and tequilas. We enjoyed the decor, but most of all we enjoyed the menu and the courses we had. The toughest part of the night was choosing one entree, as there is so so much on the menu that sounds delicious and includes a lot of dishes you don't see everywhere you go. The bread was perfection and it was served with olive oil. The Caesar salad was one of the best I've ever had. Ever. The branzino filet was a delicate dish with a flavor that makes my mouth water just thinking about it. Even the sides of veggies and potatoes were delicious and cooked perfectly. Our server, Dimitri, was helpful on all selections and extremely knowledgeable on all courses and wine recommendations. We recently had a terrific meal at Osteria 177. Before a Thursday evening concert at Ram's Head Onstage up the street, Mrs. and myself treated ourselves to a very fine Italian dinner there. It was a cold and blustery walk the couple blocks, but once we got past the very heavy front door, we were warm and welcomed. It was quiet at 5:00 when we arrived, as they had just opened. I enjoyed a cocktail, then we began by splitting a Caesar salad and the arancini app. Both were excellent, the salad crunchy and nicely dressed, and the arancini savory in its wild boar ragout sauce. Then she went for the rigatoni Norcina, rich with sausage and cream, and I chose the shrimp affumicato, in a smoky, creamy vodka sauce. We split a side of asparagus parmigiana, rich and cheesy. At the end, my lady was tempted by the tiramisu, an excellent example of a dessert we've had everywhere locally. All the food was very good, though certainly on the rich side. Mauro, our waiter, took good care of us. Though the place got pretty full before we were done, it stayed dimly lit and pleasant. Our bill came to $174 before tip, for the two of us, including 2 drinks, 2 apps, 1 dessert, and 2 coffees (disappointed to see a 3% surcharge for credit card). It was so enjoyable that I made a reservation 2 months in advance for my fiancé in med school prior to her going on her away rotation. My first time, I had Dimitri, who is a two star somalier with a phenomenal story for every wine. That experience was followed by Morrow, an Italian older gentlemen who just didn't allow me to order food until """I""" had to say something to him. Meanwhile. EVERYONE else (who was obviously white) got premier service. My fiancé and I (who are African American) had a skepticism that after I paid my bill and it ACTUALLY cleared, they then treated us with respect. In summation, I will NEVER (as an African American Man) give this place another visit. What a beautiful dinner. Osteria is part Italian, part steakhouse, and boy do they do both VERY well. The staff is absolutely fantastic as is the bartender and their mixology skills. We cannot rave enough about our meal. The linguine alla matriciana was saucy, flavorful, and a large portion. The Kansas City prime beef tenderloin was out of this world. Dinner at Osteria 777 was one of finest and most enjoyable dining experiences we have had in quite some time. We were a party of six, who were getting together after years away from the area. We were seated in a wonderful booth and were told right away that we had the table for the evening and to relax, enjoy, and take our time. The hostess and waiter were welcoming. Our waiter, Chuck, was a European style professional who didn't rush us, was never intrusive, and thoroughly knowledgeable about all food, drink, and wine selections. The food was truly outstanding! Paced well and every item from shared appetizers to entrees and desserts were enjoyed thoroughly by all. My wife and I are from California and were visiting Annapolis when we came upon this Italian restaurant. We've dined in various parts of Italy and ate at Italian restaurants throughout California. We can honestly say that this restaurant has been one of the best we've dined at. Quite authentic Italian dishes with regional flavors. I had the lamb, my wife had the branzino and my brother had the veal scallopini and his girlfriend had the spaghetti alla chitarra. We shared so we got to taste all of them. Unfortunately we were too full to have desserts. The ambiance was romantic and the staff was attentive to our needs. So lucky us for inadvertently figuring that out :) We parked at the dock and took a 5-6mins walk over. Super easy and right on Main Street near all the shops and everything in between. Overall pleasant experience! We sat at the Senator's table and he happened to be at the bar enjoying dinner with his lovely bride. He stopped by to say hello. It was a nice touch to a great evening. The lobster bisque is made with squash so there was a sweetness to it, but it was smooth and had just enough crab and lobster. I had the ravioli and you could taste the freshness. Could not give 5 stars, because restaurant is not kid friendly. There was no kid menu, place to park a stroller, or changing table. We had to create an entree and luckily the buttered noodles were a big hit with our 4 year old. We had to change our newborn in the stroller and squeeze the stroller into the ADA bathroom. Food and service were excellent! I'm taking away two stars because they charge a 3% fee to use a credit card-- and I also was not alerted to this fact before paying. I simply noticed a discrepancy between the bill and the final amount charged. I pondered taking the 3% out of my servers tip but he was wonderful, so I did not. Note to the owner operators: guests should be notified upon giving a credit card -- but also, these fees shouldn't be passed along to your guests. If you need to raise your prices to make your overhead and turn a profit, adjust accordingly. read more

Years ago, when I lived in DC, I went up to Annapolis once and didn't take full advantage of sightseeing. I also didn't take advantage of going to any restaurants there. On a recent visit to see a friend, we went to Annapolis, and she recommended an Italian restaurant that some of her colleagues and she had gone to only a few weeks ago. Osteria 177 was worth it. We started with lobster bisque that had clumps of crabs in it. Maryland is the place to be for crab and Osteria 177 did not disappoint by having it in the bisque. My friend ordered tagliolini con nero di sepia all'osteria. This was a plate of seafood (e.g., shrimp, calamari, and scallops) with ink squid linguine. Delicious! The linguine alone was packed full of flavor. I ordered filetto di branzino alla livornese con polpi di granchio. Outstanding. We're talking branzino with cherry tomatoes, olives, capers, and lump crab meat. It came with potatoes, broccoli, and cauliflower. However, I ordered mushrooms and escarole along with it. For dessert, I had the panna cotta with berries. I had that for takeaway because dinner was filling. It was a great option for dessert because it was light. I like Italian food that has more of a leaning towards seafood. This was the case at Osteria 177. Next time I am in the Washington, DC, vicinity, I shall return. I can get spaghetti and meatballs, ravioli, and lasagna from anywhere. When I want to delectable seafood, I'll go back to Osteria 177. read more

Wow-what a great meal!! By luck got in very late although had tried earlier in the eve to get a reservation. Loved the decor. Other patrons were friendly. The warm bread was very good and served with evoo. Charlie was our waiter and ver personable; he recommended the cubano after I asked specially between a few pasta dishes. He was dead on. Started with the grilled calamari that was perfect and served on a bed of arugula. My friend said it was like he had in Italy that past Spring. It smelled and tasted fresh and melted in your mouth. The arugula bed was firm and perfectly seasoned. The waiter said the calamari was blanched briefly to get the texture. I was disappointed I could not get two half orders of pasta. My cubano pasta was delicious. Bacon , shrimp, a bit of a tanginess, it had it all. The leftovers were even better. We split dessert which was also incredible. We've walked past Osteria 177 for the last 3.5 years while our child has been at USNA but have never paid a visit. Due to said child's birthday, and having a craving for "real" Italian food after reliving memories from a recent trip to Italy, we decided to stop in on a chilly Sunday evening. We were not disappointed. As others have mentioned, we had delightful service, led by Dmitri. He helped us narrow down our appetizer and entrees and recommended an amazing (and affordable!) bottle of Tuscan red wine. The meatballs were delicious as a starter. We stuck with pasta for our entrees, and we really enjoyed the risotto special, bucatini, and wild boar ragout. (Next time, we'll probably go with the pappardelle instead of gnocchi with the ragout, which was outstanding.) We topped it all off with a couple of dessert specials from the in-house Italian pastry chef, which the staff brought out with a candle for our birthday celebration. While Osteria 177 will likely only be a special occasion place for us, we are so glad we tried it. I came here for a work dinner at the insistence of my colleague who proclaimed his previous visit here as one of the best meals of his life....it did not disappoint! From service, to food and drinks, our meal was perfection!! The restaurant is on a corner on the main street, which is super cute (cobblestones). It is warm inside and most importantly not too loud, one of my pet peeves! Service was fantastic, our waiter looked felt he'd been there for quite a while, was attentive but not intrusive, new the menu very well and gave suggestions when requested. The food was spectacular. I ordered the lamb chops which were perfectly flavored and seasoned, I cleared the plate! The cheesecake was very good...I am a pumpkin lover, so it could have been a little heavier on the pumpkin spiciness in my opinion, but was still delicious.
