I walked into Sammy's to begin my day, wanting to a simple breakfast sandwich but instead I ordered the ham and eggs. Yeah I said ham and eggs. "But NPSwizzle again?" Yeah, again, I love my ham and eggs. I also ordered three drinks. A coffee, a water, and an OJ freshly squeezed. The tastes were delish, and the colors were so bold. Oh so colorful and bold like my buddy Joseph and his technicolor coat. I doubled up on my cup of Joe. My daughter ordered the taco omelet, and she loved it. She loved it so much that she wanted one to go. Kids. They're too funny. She says I look like a whale but eat so quickly like a bunny. The ham and eggs were perfect, not too salty not too sweet. The eggs were aplenty, and the hash browns were a treat. Sammy's is a staple, and I'm so glad we were able, to get ourselves a table, and eat some great foods while watching basic cable. The best part of it all is that it doesn't cost and arm and leg. Sammy, you fine person, you made a lovely place. A safe space where visitors can eat and enjoy at their own pace. We've been coming to Sammy's during our annual trip to Rehoboth for almost the entire time of its existence. At the beginning, if I'm recalling the story correctly, there were two breakfast places on the Sammy's footprint. One was Sammy's and the other (I forgot its name) had flags and signs out front suggesting that if you ate at their place that you were a good patriotic American (suggesting that Sammy's were immigrants and - well, just don't eat at Sammy's). So, for years, we came to Sammy's and were pleased to see eventually Sammy's take over the entire space. But that's history. We enjoyed our meals and the service at Sammy's very much. This year - not so much. I got the chicken fajita omelette with side pancakes and also a side of turkey sausage. I found the chicken fajita omelette to be ok, the chicken was a bit dry. The pancakes were dry. And the sausage was dry and a bit hard. Overall, pretty disappointing. The coffee also was kind of meh. The service was fine, but not great - we had to call our server over a couple of times for water refills. And the place wasn't very crowded. Overall, I think I'll try Sammy's again, but there also are plenty of other breakfast places to try and I can't recommend Sammy's based on our recent meal alone. This was a great option for us as we were looking for a simple and quick kid-friendly lunch before running over to Funland. The menu looked like it had a wide variety of options typical to a diner and my daughters ordered the funny face pancake and the cheeseburger. The pancake was pretty small so we had to pay for another one, which wasn't so great but no big deal. I chose a fried fish sandwich and fries. The fries were disappointing (limp and slightly burnt on some of them) but the fish sandwich was excellent. What really stood out here was the excellent and kind service. They really were out of their way to check in with us constantly and were caring towards my girls. I liked how the restaurant was cozy with 2 rows of booths. An underwhelming experience. Went for breakfast with a group of 8. We asked for separate checks for some of the group and the response was that if we did that, our food might come at different times. In other words, it was discouraged. Ok, so we let him put it all together which was an annoyance. So on to the food... the coffee was terrible. You'd think a breakfast place would have something like coffee down pat but it was not to be. I ordered an omelette with mushrooms, cheddar and bacon. The mushrooms were from a can which was disappointing. The cheddar cheese looked like the Mexican blend from the grocery store. Husband had the Tooty breakfast. The place was empty (but the owner assured us they are quite busy for breakfast and lunch), so we had the place to ourselves! What a relief to find a place where two grown adults can eat breakfast for under $40. A nice "down home" diner. Arrived about 8am on a Saturday in early October. Only 2 other customers in the place. Service was quick and attentive. Wife got two eggs, bacon, pancakes. The pancakes are small, but you get two of them. $11 I got a "build your own omelette" cheese, ham, and mushrooms. $12 Food was delivered less than 10 minutes and was decent. Had better, had worse. But at least it was affordable and not overpriced like most restaurants in downtown Rehobeth. If I had one recommendation, it would be to turn on some kind of music or radio station. There's is much to be said about expectations. People rely on some notion of what they think a place "should be" rather than what it is. According to reviews, Sammys Kitchen isn't the ideal, expensive resort town fair. That's probably right. What I found is a good diner with a solid affordable breakfast. What you get at Sammys is a diner where the staff talks with its customers with friendliness and for some, familiarity. The ambiance isn't complex, it's a diner. You get the impression that both locals and Rehoboth visitors are treated the same. It's uncomplicated even if you have a 2 1/2 year old. Service was good and friendly on my visit. The food came fast and for the most part was good. That said, you aren't going here for the best coffee in town, but it was hot and with free refills. The eggs weren't fully seasoned but they were cooked correctly. A highlight: the gluten-free pancakes were very good, especially when compared to other local offers. So if you want a normal decent, fast, accommodating, and affordable diner experience, come here. read more

Better experience than expected! I read the reviews and was expecting terrible service based on them. Our experience was the complete opposite. The owner was friendly and didn't turn us away for brining outside coffee. The waiter was so kind and all our food came out quickly. The waiter even found my kids a coloring book and crayons. My eggs were perfectly made, as were my husbands - the food was great. This is a nice spot for a real breakfast in Rehoboth, it's about 1.5 blocks from the boardwalk. I was lured to this place by the online photos of crispy-looking shredded hash browns. The hash browns that were served to me were tough and chewy, and not at all crispy outside or tender inside, which is a sign that they were prepared earlier and maybe sat under a heat lamp. The poached eggs were served in a bowl with about a tablespoon of the water used to boil them...egg soup. The bacon, which my dining partner and I both ordered "well done", was nowhere close to well done, but was fatty and rubbery and limp. A gentleman who I'm guessing was the owner talked to a table of patrons at full yelling voice volume the entire time, so loud that his voice echoed off the walls. I could hardly talk to my dining partner and I could hardly hear myself think. A trip to the beach only offers so many chances to eat in restaurants, and this one was a disappointment. Food: yuck. My family and I had a great experience eating at Sammy's. Sammy himself greeted us and delivered all of our meals, coming back a few mores times to check in on us and to chat. The food is standard, solid diner food, and comes at a great price for the large portions. Came here for a quick breakfast. Wrong place for that. Basic breakfast orders took 45 minutes to come out and all of the food was very mediocre. Eggs cooked incorrectly, creamed chipped beef tasted oddly sour, gluten free pancakes were spongy and pale, portions were lacking, etc. Food was sitting in the window for 15+ minutes before being run and none of the staff seem to have a clue what is going on.
