The server was very unfriendly to us, She did make eye contact when we came in and didn't smile or welcome us. After we sat down I noticed she was very friendly to the people on the next table who appeared to be Greek, asking them how they were doing and smiling/laughing. My wife and I have been talking about visiting Samos for at least 20 years. That's more than two decades. We are slightly acquainted with the proprietor through family connections and decided the time to go was TODAY! We arrived at about 4pm and were seated immediately. We ordered our beverages as we perused the menu. So much temptation for the palate! My bride ordered the avgolemono soup and two lamb souvlaki and roasted veggies; both a la carte. I ordered the shrimp and feta pie (on the recommendation of a Greektown friend) and the Pastitsio, sort of a Greek lasagna but using thin ziti. I also ordered a small Greek salad with anchovies that came with my main course. It seems that within moments the soup and salad were served. The soup, according to my wife, was outstanding. Let's qualify that by saying not as excellent as her moms. I sampled a spoonful and this soup had more body, chicken and orzo than my mother-in-laws rendition. It was delightful. My Greek salad had chunks of tomato, cucumber, feta, red onion with mixed greens and anchovies. I topped it with a little bit of Samos salad dressing. The texture and flavor was enhanced by the dressing, feta and especially the anchovies. Then came the feta and shrimp pie. It was nearly the size of a calzone. Spanakopita and tiropita are usually served in small triangular pieces. I've also seen the former made and served in casserole form, like Pastitsio. What a treat. A real treat. My wife's Lamb Souvlaki and roasted veggies were tasty. The house preparation of lamb with their seasoning and grilling could make me a fan of lamb yet! Very good. My Pastitsio was excellent! It was served on a bed of tomato sauce which, to me, made it special as the presentation was special. I loved it. A special shout out to the flat bread. I believe it was brushed in olive oil and toasted for a moment in the oven. So, what's a meal at Samos without dessert? Incomplete. The bread pudding here is, let's say, exquisite. The service was friendly and on point and we knew it was time to go when we saw folks waiting in queue to be seated. A good meal here can be had for $25PP or less. AMAZING. To start off with Samos is cash only, however they have an ATM in the back, if you're like us, and you tend to be bad about carrying cash. Moving on to the food, Samos' pita bread was quite possibly themost amazing that I have very tasted. I had no idea I could enjoy pita bread honestly. It was moist, fresh, and tasted similar to thin pizza crust and was seasoned amazingly well. It was utterly delicious. Their rice pilaf was what really hooked me. The way they prepared it was so fresh and filling. It was the type of fare your mom might make on a rainy day that you'd fill up a bowl with and keep eating until you felt like you might pop. The service was friendly, warm, and attentive and Samos Restaurant definitely earns it's high score, especially since they've been in business for decades. I came here to eat with coworkers. It was a long day at work, and we were all hungry. Our attending physician suggested greek, so here we came. We were a party of five, and we were sat down in a matter of minutes. We ordered our drinks, which were basically water and sodas. The decided to order a bunch of different skewers and share among ourselves. We ordered chicken and lamb plates, as well as two hummus plates. The hummus is very distinct from the one I've tasted in the past. The taste was so-so, and so was the bread. The meat skewers were the saving grace of this meal. I have eaten at a lot of restaurants in Baltimore and DC and this ranks in my top 3 places "You have got to eat". All the food is fresh, all veggies and meats are straight out the garden or straight from the butcher. The salad dressing is like crack, once you have had it you will crave it. But I think the most appealing 2 things that stand out are the portion sizes "GIANT" and the warm staff "AWESOME". Those two factors and some of the best gyro meat in this world will keep me a loyal customer that is willing to drive 45 minute to eat at this proper restaurant. And the prices are very affordable for what you get. The fries even have a little zest with the lemon and oregano. 2 can share 1 order of fries. WOW this place was WAY worth the hype I called in at 11:30 to carry out lunch from work. They took my order quickly and it was ready in 15 min as promised. Street parking wasn't a problem on a weekday at noon. I knew to take cash (thanks yelpers!) . Easy peasy. The chicken souvlaki was AMAZING - the quality of chicken was fresh, it was well seasoned and SO juicy not dry. The onions complemented it perfectly and the tzaziki was amazing! We also had the hummus which I thought was a bit atypical...chunky not smooth, had green peppers which overpowered a bit. The olive spread per my coworker is perfection (I don't eat olives/don't hate). Prices were very reasonable-$5.50 gyors and souvlaki! My mother and I were at Bayview hospital and were absolutely famished .. The food at that hospital is not very appealing, so after checking with a few nurses, we decided to order from Samos. Unfortuntely, they only deliver catering, so we had to leave the hospital to get our food. My mom had eaten there in the past and remembered the food being very good. The restuarant is on the corner in a neighborhood and it was very hard to find a parking space because of the monumental amount snow we received over the weekend...30 inches :-o My mother went in while I double parked. A minute later both she and one of the women who work there came out and told me to park in one of the nicely shoveled out spaces that had a place holder.. Anyone from here knows that you just dont take a parking space that someone has worked so hard to dig out . In any event, the woman from Samos gave me a sign to place in my windshield which stated 'Im in Samos, please come in when you arrive and we will move our car".. Or somethign like that. She said that they have an agreement with their neighbors to help their customers out in situations like that. So back to the food. When we walked in, it smelled incredible. Yummmm! Its pretty small inside and not fancy, but cozy. While we waited for our food, the women in the front were incredibly hospitable. They talked to us the whole time we waited and they shared how they had both been long time employees because they just love working in the restaurant so much. My mother was given a cup of coffee on the house (you give that woman some coffee and shes hooked). While we did not eat in, I wish we had. We ordered a large Greek salad, chicken gyros and 2 Chicken Souvlakis. The salad was very very fresh. The dressing was a little diffrent than the normal oil dressings you receive with Greek salad. It was creamy, but not creamy.. If that makes sense. The Gyros were really really good. The pita bread was flavored very well. All in all, it was a very pleasant experience. The samos Greek island grill is much better in my opinion if you are into the higher quality cooking. It is all still basic Greek food but the food at the restaurant can be overcooked or undercooked, whereas the grill seems to be more modern cooking techniques that pay attention to thoughtful food preparation. read more

This has always been my favorite Greek restaurant in Baltimore. I've been coming here for years. I moved away 2 years ago to Hawaii and haven't had good Greek food since I left. Came here for lunch with friends visiting from Philly who have never been here. For appetizers we ordered the dip trio with the olive tapenade, hummus, and tzatziki, as well as the spanakopita. Both came out fast and were very tasty. Our server (I forgot her name) has been working there seams like forever. She was very excited to have us back and have new dinners there. Samos is simply scrumptious. A Baltimore Greektown classic that I've been meaning to try. The sampler trio is A MUST. We ordered the Tzatziki, olive tapenade, and hummus and loved all three. They were so fresh. The grilled octopus was grilled nicely on the outside and buttery on the inside. If you want a light and lemony pasta the Seafood Santorini is the way to go! It included a generous amount of scallops, calamari, and shrimp. Not pictured - the gyro platter with rice and grilled veggies. SO good. We actually order this at the fast casual Samos Greek Island Grill and somehow it is even better at this restaurant location! (Didn't think that was possible) This place even accepts credit cards now! They used to be cash only. Do not forget they are BYOB. Samos never fails to impress!! Got takeout this time around, and tried the taramo salata and the chicken kabob platter. The taramo salata was a much bigger portion than I expected, and lasted us several days as a pre-dinner appetizer! It's definitely very fishy, but I didn't mind that and actually enjoyed it! The kabobs are my favorite part of Samos, and the reason that I keep returning. We stopped in to pick up lunch on our way up to Philly. The staff was friendly, the prices are great (20$ for two pita wraps, french fries, and tip), and the location is fairly convenient for being in Baltimore. They only take cash, which according to my partner is a sign of a good small restaurant, and that holds true here. The food was quite good - we both got the chicken pita wrap, and the meat tasted good and was cooked well, the veggies were fresh, the pita was soft and warm, and the tzatziki was refreshing. The to-go containers were really convenient for eating in the car, and the wraps were stuffed full enough that we were totally satisfied but not so full that things were falling out.
