I am starting a new rating system. I've lived on the west side for 30 years and every time I turn around some old, familiar establishment is closing. So I'm only going to rate places by the regret I will feel if they closed down. 5 stars for Chutneys because when the food is good it's on fire good. When it's not perfect because this is actually handmade food with raw ingredients it's still very, very good. Also, it's the only place with Biriyani (Pakistani Karachi style with Potatoes). Best Pakistani/Indian food in the area. Period!!! My favorites Include Dahi Tandoori chicken. Also inside chicken Tikka Massala it is real Tikka (Sheekh Kebab) not steamed chicken that they tend to out inside Chicken Tikka Massala dishes in other restaurants. We have been coming to this place for a few years now. In a very small lot so parking is scarce and area is not so great either. As many people have mentioned, customer service is horrible. They count out the number of plates and napkins you get. One per person, except kids don't apparently count as people. So one per adult. We normally go here for the nihari, which is decent. The naan is fresh. We ordered the beef seekh kabob this last time around and that was meh. We had to ask for some chutney, at which point we were handed two small containers to grab ourselves. I think better if we just took our plates over instead. read more

I'm from India and love to try new Indian restaurants! This gives me the opportunity to compare and find the BEST Indian restaurant in LA. Customer service: I was pleased with the customer service that I received on this day. I was greeted with a warm smile which is always nice. Ordering was easy and the host kindly made suggestions from the menu. Portion: As mentioned, I've been to MANY indian restaurants and the portion at this location was 3/10. I was surprised to see how LITTLE the servings were and still felt hungry after leaving the restaurant. Flavoring: I would give this place a 5/10 for flavor. It's not up to par with my expectation. Not spicy and kind of bland to be honest. Parking: Parking is definitely a 1/10. If it's a busy day, you won't have any luck with parking. It's too tight and small. * I would not consider what I ate to be Samosas. Those resemble sambusas and don't taste exactly like what a samosa should taste like. The Dosa also was more like injera and not a true dosa texture. I will not be returning to this location but happy to have tried a new place. read more

This place was hands down the BEST indian food i've ever had, and ive had indian food in beverly hills, and let me tell you, the other place could NEVER compare to this. The staff were beyond amazing and so nice, it is family owned and i definitely tasted that love in the food. The food tasted so delicious and the butter chicken was tender, i got to see them make the naan homemad and it was so fluffy, the rice was tasty, and the salad was refreshing l. Absolutely the best Tandoori chicken not only in Los Angeles but possibly in the states! It's charred it's juicy it's tender it's halal or kosher, it's addictive it's healthy it's so so good. I challenge anyone to try it and let me know otherwise. The place is more of a fast food ambiance but it's very clean. The Seekh Kabob is also the best, tender juicy and delicious. By far the best. Better than any fancy Indian/Pakistani high end restaurant. The value is unbeatable. Love this place I have been a customer for many years and every time I am in the area I have stop by. I was on my way to Taco Bell on Pico but I saw this place had Indian and Halal and Fast in the title so I stopped in. I got the veggie combo which had two veggie dishes - the Chana masala and a mixed vegetable. It also had a daal that was pretty substantial (i read some of the reviews complaining about "sambar" - this is North Indian/Punjabi/Pakistani type foods- the critiques were that this isn't like South Indian food but that's very different cuisine and culture). It also came with a serving of rice and a fresh handmade roti which was SO GOOD I wish I had ordered more of the fresh handmade bread. It was a lot of food and cheaper than my Taco Bell order somehow. He convinced me to try to the mango lassi and it really was fresh and good, I drank it all standing there before I even got my order. Delicious, fresh, fast, and cheap. What more can you ask for??? read more

Ordered Lamb Vindaloo from here and felt delighted by the quantity and quality of the rice and meat. It also included a Plain Tandoori Naan which was soft and of very good quality. I would consider this as one of the best Indo-Pak restaurants in the Los Angeles region. If you are looking for Indian styled cooked meat this should be a definite to go Restaurant. Decent place in west LA. Food is tasty and solidly priced but just misses the perfect mark because of the taste of the food and authenticity. Firstly, the Chai and Mango Lassi are perfect. Amazing if anything else. The Dosa however, is not made crunchy and is super soft. The aloo inside is great, but I wish there was more crispness and not just soft. Interestingly they served the dosa with moong daal and not sambar, a strange choice to say the least. Chicken vindaloo is decent but chicken needs to be more juicy and less dry on inside. Love this spot! I got the veggie plate, which comes with vegetable curry, vegetable of the day, lentils, rice and naan. All for just $10. Really filled me up, the rice had some spice in them and it was super flavorful. I also got a side of corn and coconut salad ($1.75), but that was just corn and carrot basically so nothing special. Their food is pre-prepared I think, because I saw them just reheating my vegetable curries etc on a pan before repackaging for my to-go order, but I guess I can't expect a fast Indian place to make my order fresh. I ate here for over 20 years.... I recently ordered the tandoori chicken and it tasted different. The flavor is there but the chicken is tough. The cooks told me the old owners sold back in December. When the old owners had the restaurant, the chicken was falling off the bone so tender. The chicken seems to be more plump.... I personally knew the late Mr.Khan... his food was perfect and never questioned the quality. Now not so sure... the naan is the same, but the tandoori is what they were known for.... Don't get the chicken biryani. It seemed to barely have onion and was full of rice and bones. I couldn't even enjoy it as it felt like a whole excavation project finding all the little bits and bones in my food. I know some places/cultures traditionally chop up chicken, bones and all, and toss it in the food like jamaican jerk chicken, but i personally don't like bones scattered throughout my plate. this dish needed more chicken and also there was alot of potato as filler in there too. The dish was very disappointing. Also for a place called "chutneys" you would think you would get some samosa dipping sauces but there were none. None of those tasty cilantro and mint chutneys nor the brown sweet/spicy sauce came with my samosas. The chicken tikka masala tasted very different and not tomato-ish like other reviews have mentioned. It actually tasted more dairy-ish. Not buttery, but idk maybe more cheesy flavored. It just didn't taste like any other chicken tikka masala i have tried before so it was ok. The lamb curry was probably the best tasting dish i had from there but it wasnt good enough to make me yearn or want to come back for it again. In summary, I am giving this place two stars because none of the dishes were great, no chutneys came with the samosas even though its called "chutneys", and also all the bones in my food. I did like that everything was spicy or had a kick to it, even the samosas and their naan bread was actually really great! Not thin and very fluffy and cooked perfectly. If you can't tolerate spicy food at all, do not eat any of the dishes I mentioned because they have a kick for sure. read more

New Owners, all the delights of the original menu, and they're adding NEW stuff too! I've been coming here since I was a kid. Seekh kabob roll is my go to with the sides of chutney. Their chicken lunch special is great price if you're looking for a big portion meal. Their combo plates are good portions. Mango Lassi and OG chai. Naan is baked fresh in a clay oven. Horrible experience. Ordered a bunch of separate orders and they all came in one bag unlabeled and unorganized. TWO of the meals were combined into one meal and we were rudely told that we needed to split it ourselves even thought they were ordered as two separate meals. Also they told us it was our fault and we should have assumed that they would combine two separate orders and we need to let them know next time.(how does that make sense?) Their Customer service did not care at all and was quite rude. When we called for help in sorting the meals they told us to call Grubhub next time (as if they were the ones who packaged our food.) Pretty idiotic and a horrible experience. You wont catch me here again. Food was meh anyways. I recommend ALL INDIA CAFE instead. The only reason we didnt go to all india was because they were closed today.
