Shorty work and cheap parts. Will cheat you out of your hard earned money. Not worth going to!

We've done business with this young man twice first time he was right on point with his billing as far as retail cost and labor time didn't overcharge on either Then we came back 10 months later completely different story Told us we needed a lower ball joint on a Volkswagen only 10 years old so I suggested buying the whole lower control arm which comes with the ball joint. They agreed the most expensive one I could find was $180. No I don't think for one second they're going to give me the parts for cost so I was prepared to pay $280 for something they bought for 180 or maybe even as much as 300 I know the job only takes one to 1.5 hours so I was figuring might see a bill between five and 600 like they quoted the car was there overnight went to pick it up the next evening and to my surprise had a bill way over $1000. They didn't do any more work than we discussed. they just marked up the part five times what they paid This young man is obviously getting comfortable and very creative with his billing. as long as he keeps getting away with screwing local people it's going to continue. This was the Garage on route two and 138 used to be an exhaust shop so do yourself a favor. If you do go there make sure he gives you a quote and ask him if he's going to stick to it don't let him say it's an estimate because he won't stick to it. You want a firm quote he needs to be a little more humble and realize we keep him in business. This is a cocky kid that bit off more than he could chew got too big too fast and just trying to make all of this customers pay for it with work. They don't need any good reviews you see on here are more than likely people he knows just walk around the town of Wakefield and ask what they think about his service. He'll go so far as to hold your car hostage if you can't afford to pay his absorbent bill that's usually 80% higher than what he quotes. He's just a bad business person all the way around time to send a message before he screws one more South County resident and he is no longer located in North Kingston they are now located on route two in West Kingston and on 138 he's gotten way too big too fast now he has a bunch of mortgages and he thinks overcharging will pay for them do yourself a favor and drive-by. I brought my car in for a broken Motor mount and to have them check the AC. I had car towed to West Kingston location. They inspected the entire vehicle and told me I needed brake lines, motor mounts, a new compressor because there was green die around it, told me the front brakes were good, the body work was bad, and I needed all the bushings replaced. I never agreed to a full inspection of the car and they charged me 189.00 for just looking at it. Live and learn, always ask first before leaving your car. They had the car for over 2 weeks and They would not give me an estimate to fix the broken motor mount bracket. I would not recommend this place to anyone. Bottom line I took my car back, paid the 189.00 to get my car the F out there and drove it to Nuni's in Providence. Nuni's fixed it the next day and it was less than double what these jerks charged me for the inspection. AAA my ass. Go anywhere else but these guys. read more

Sampson's automotive is the only shop I trust my vehicle with. I have seen them for inspection stickers in the past and now most recently after a minor collision. Joe and Brett are honest, trustworthy and communicative. It's hard to find that these days. Even my husband who works on his own vehicles for years is impressed with the professionals at the shop. do yourself a favor stay away brought my car in for inspection sticker told me I needed a new radiator ended up with new radiator and now a broken AC was working fine when I brought it in wish I had taking the time to read reviews first. read more

I had Sampson's do a APR tune. The car had Miss fires. He would not remove tune. charged Me $400 for refusals too admit the tune was problem, liar try to said was dirty oil . he is a Joke! stay away!! read more

Went to get an oil change, they drained the oil and forgot to put oil in. Car literally could've blown up. Charged $70 for this as well.

Made an appointment for 10 a.m. to get my car inspected. Showed up at 10 and told me he left me a message saying that his inspection guy had a family emergency. He certainly didn't call and definitely didn't leave a message. Kind of weird that he tried to pull that off. Said he could get me in at 3 and called me a few hours later telling me that he would need to reschedule later in the week. All done with Samson's will never use them again that's for sure. read more

Daughter had a tire issue while traveling. Contacted Brett at the location, he was professional, courteous, and patient. My daughter arrived, the vehicle was quickly examined and the minor problem was corrected. The whole experience was amazing and the quick, honest, and thorough care they gave was so appreciated for a Dad 200 miles away hoping his child would be safe and on her way quickly. Seriously Great! Okay, I drive a 2011 run around car with a 160,000 thousand miles on it! From time to time it needs work to keep it running Smoothly. Joe and his team are Amazing! Always surprising me with their quick turn around and amazing service! Just when I think I've got to get rid of this car - they put it back in great road worthy condition! Only because I can't give LESS Use inferior parts charge top $$$$. Sparkplug wires are short, complained to me about extra time to make fit. Told me owner where to get them he said he knew better. Left 2 2oz. tubes of silicon sealer NO SIGN they were used anywhere. Always need to do more. HIGH PRICES INFERIOR WORK. Tried to give small guy work should've had it towed someplace else. STAY AWAY!!! They use cheap non OEM parts and overcharge you for sub standard work IMO. They were recommended to me by repair pal...that was a mistake. I feel totally taken advantage of by this business and would NEVER return. read more

I'm disappointed that I chose Sampson's Automotive for my car repair. My car stayed at the shop for over a week, and still left only partially repaired. Sampson's Auto may have a lot of heart, but they unfortunately give the feeling that their business is more like a hobby. Not what I personally want when spending nearly $1500 for professional repair. I called ahead with a list of needed repairs, all verified by Brett's initial assessment. Then he called me back 3 days later, saying that he needed to order an additional part from the dealership. Isn't that something you'd pick up on the initial walkthrough? He also had a hard time giving me a solid price quote for services. You'd think an experienced mechanic would be able to quote a range of prices within $50 of each other. I didn't know if owed $1400 or $1700. It's challenging for my family to budget for a gap like that, especially since we waited over a week to find out which one it was. Another payment issue: nobody was there to process my payment when I came to pick up my car. I called in advance, and gave a time, and showed up on time. I had to wait 10 minutes, and the person processing my payment wasn't even certain how to do it. I understand that they are a small staff, however it's important that more than one person knows how to comfortably operate the POS. To top it all off, my car doesn't shift properly, in a new, less-than-exciting way. I nearly got stuck in Drive in my own driveway... 5 minutes after picking up my car from its weeklong stay at Sampson's Automotive. If you value your time and are cost-conscious, go elsewhere. read more

This place is amazing. They work with my needs and schedule. They always get my truck back to me in a timely and efficient fashion. I called them one morning asking if I could get new breaks and they got me in that day, and finished! They even fixed a ton of other issues for me in that time. Highly recommend if you need your truck for your job and want it back quickly. read more

They make sure every job turns into a big job. Don't expect to get your car back in less than a week or for less than a grand, even if there was nothing wrong with it. Check their complaints on the Better Business Bureau website for more info if you are even considering this place. read more

I don't post reviews on Yelp, typically - but signed in just to give a GREAT review for the service that I received at Sampson's Automotive this week. I'm really surprised at the two negative reviews, as that was not my experience at all. Brett quoted me a price for the list of items that I needed done on my car - and told me that a couple of items that I requested were not necessary. ...and the final charge was less than what was quoted. I found the communication to be excellent, professional and thorough. Brett and all of the workers are courteous and clean and I will bring my car here for any service needs in the years to come. Communication is always top notch and recommendations made are explained in order to prioritize issues that need immediate attention vs something that should be addressed in the future. Holiday weekend. Engine in limp-mode, engine light on, on 95 and it's almost 100 degrees...no air conditioning on to prevent straining the engine, with two dogs and two kids under five....owner of Sampson's assures us that he will wait for us (even though he had a half day) and works with our pressed schedule to get our vehicle fixed in time for vacation. Expert service, reasonably priced, straightforward, ethical, convenient: This auto shop and it's owner saved the day and our vacation overall. We highly recommend this place If you are local or en route to greater New England and require service. I still can't believe our luck. That Sampson's was integral to raising money for local veterans (Project Warriors) at the North Kingstown Lions Club 3rd Annual Car Show is a whole other reason we want to say "thank you"! read more

This is a follow-up to my first review of this horrible place. I found another mechanic, who is honest and has integrity. He replaced the brake pads for me and told me that the pads didn't really need to be replaced yet, they were not worn down to the wear indicators as BRETT SAMPSON stated.
