New to this place. Had my car inspected here and it was done earlier than discussed. Good service and no issues.

My mother brought her 2014 GMC Yukon to J&S Auto Repair for an advertised free air conditioning…read morecheck. We were fully prepared to pay for the necessary mechanical repairs. Prior to the appointment, we explicitly informed the shop that the system had already been recharged multiple times and had a confirmed, active leak. While we understand that professional mechanics must verify issues independently, J&S Auto Repair chose to simply recharge the system and add dye. They held the vehicle for two days, only to return it completely unrepaired. Rather than honoring the free diagnostic check to locate the physical leak and quote a proper repair, they billed her $223.50 for the redundant recharge and dye. To make matters worse, the initial invoice provided was unacceptably vague, completely lacking a breakdown of the labor performed or the materials used. I went into the office to address this discrepancy directly and explicitly asked for an itemized invoice. Astonishingly, the representative still refused to provide one. They offered no resolution, insisting the $223.50 was strictly for the recharge and dye test. When a customer explicitly states that a system will not hold refrigerant, charging them over $200 to fill it up just to watch it leak out, and then failing to detail those charges on paper upon request, is an unacceptable business practice. We expected to pay for a repair, not an unnecessary diagnostic step that ignored our prior disclosures and violated the premise of their free check. I will update this review if management corrects this billing issue.

Perhaps the worst, most expensive and frustrating mechanic/shop experience ever. Seven weeks and…read more$3,500 labor bill later, my cheap, tiny, simple car is still not fixed. I just needed it tuned up, as it was running rough at higher speeds. They provided no heads up about the cost or prognosis, no warning that 'it would get expensive', they just went down worm holes that made little sense. I had to call them a couple times a week for seven weeks to make sure they actually would look at it and not get distracted. After almost two summer months of calling and waiting, they indicated they were still not able to make it run well, though they have no idea what's actually wrong with it. I thought it would be maybe a few hundred bucks for their time to 'try' to troubleshoot this simple 4 cylinder they weren't able to. Imagine my surprise when he said "That will be $3,500 please" -- and of course without even fixing it!!! When I freaked out at the insane bill, I was able to 'talk them down' to about $1200, but the bottom line is this: Seven wasted weeks, $1,200 poorer, still with the exact same running rough at high speed problem originally that they freely admit they did not fix. As a bonus, they didn't reattach my air filter housing which I now have to do for them so I can even drive it at all now. These tiny, old cars are stone simple to work on. No computers, no emissions, no AC, no power anything... if it were any simpler it would cut grass. Everything about this experience was soul sucking, but at least it was crazy expensive and accomplished nothing I needed.

We've done business with this young man twice first time he was right on point with his billing as…read morefar as retail cost and labor time didn't overcharge on either Then we came back 10 months later completely different story Told us we needed a lower ball joint on a Volkswagen only 10 years old so I suggested buying the whole lower control arm which comes with the ball joint. They agreed the most expensive one I could find was $180. No I don't think for one second they're going to give me the parts for cost so I was prepared to pay $280 for something they bought for 180 or maybe even as much as 300 I know the job only takes one to 1.5 hours so I was figuring might see a bill between five and 600 like they quoted the car was there overnight went to pick it up the next evening and to my surprise had a bill way over $1000. They didn't do any more work than we discussed. they just marked up the part five times what they paid This young man is obviously getting comfortable and very creative with his billing. as long as he keeps getting away with screwing local people it's going to continue. This was the Garage on route two and 138 used to be an exhaust shop so do yourself a favor. If you do go there make sure he gives you a quote and ask him if he's going to stick to it don't let him say it's an estimate because he won't stick to it. You want a firm quote he needs to be a little more humble and realize we keep him in business. This is a cocky kid that bit off more than he could chew got too big too fast and just trying to make all of this customers pay for it with work. They don't need any good reviews you see on here are more than likely people he knows just walk around the town of Wakefield and ask what they think about his service. He'll go so far as to hold your car hostage if you can't afford to pay his absorbent bill that's usually 80% higher than what he quotes. He's just a bad business person all the way around time to send a message before he screws one more South County resident and he is no longer located in North Kingston they are now located on route two in West Kingston and on 138 he's gotten way too big too fast now he has a bunch of mortgages and he thinks overcharging will pay for them do yourself a favor and drive-by. Don't stop.
