They did not call me about this or tell me about this they just did it and put it on the bill. When they did call me all they said was the trucks all set and I went to pick it up. This is a classic garage scam move to attempt to make a few extra bucks on inspection. I thought Northups was better than this but I guess I was wrong. Most people just go along with this scam and pay it to keep the peace. I did not. If you are going there for inspection, make sure you check your vehicle thoroughly before you bring it there. I won't be doing ANY business there ever again.

We started bringing our vehicles to Coutu Auto a dozen years ago (with a break in the middle when…read morewe moved out the the country) and are so very thankful we discovered this business all those years ago. In the beginning (12+years ago) Rochelle and her unbelievably friendly, exceedingly large, dog manned the office, while brother Mickey took care of the cars. Together they make a great team of unparalleled customer service and quality car care. Located on the south bound side of Rt 2 in East Greenwich, they are close to the stop light at Middle Road. The parking area is on both sides of the shop as well as in front. There are often cars out there, proving this mechanic is busy. Park anywhere there's a spot when dropping off for service. If you chose to leave the car the night before service, there is a 'drop box' with large envelopes where you leave your name, phone, car info and work to be done. Drop the keys in the envelope, and drop the envelope into the drop box. Just be sure to call ahead to book an appointment because they are very busy and may not be able to get to it right away. (This is an educated guess on my part. Just makes sense based on how many cars are always in their lot and I've personally never just dropped off the car without an appointment. That's not to imply they can't get you in, in an emergency situation. Just call them first and let them know.) Mickey is always taking classes, staying up to date on the newest car technology. They explain every expense and either why you need it or why they recommend it. They also keep the automotive diagnostic computer software up to date for these newer cars that have so many computerized parts. Over the years this business has grown, more mechanics have joined the staff and we drop the car off at night and pick it up the next day. The car is always clean when we pick it up (a dealership once left greasy fingerprints on the interior roof liner - how?) and during this time of pandemic, we pay over the phone and they leave the keys inside. No contact drop off, no contact pick up. The entire transaction is over the phone, if you so desire. I wish I could tell you 'don't go here' because I love this place and want to keep it all to myself. Luckily we do not need so much car repair we are always there, so I share with you this trust worthy auto mechanic who truly makes you understand his goal is to keep your car running in as near perfect condition as possible without over charging you for anything, parts or service, or trying to get you to purchase services your car does not need. Even when we had a car in need of lots of repair work, he was able to give us a breakdown of what is an immediate *must* and what could be done over time (to help us keep our monthly budget in check), while assuring safety on the road. Seriously, these guys rock. We have had a variety of vehicles over the years, both new and old, and have lived in many different states (and a couple other countries) and we have found Coutu's to be top notch in car care, pricing and customer service. They agreed the most expensive one I could find was $180. No I don't think for one second they're going to give me the parts for cost so I was prepared to pay $280 for something they bought for 180 or maybe even as much as 300 I know the job only takes one to 1.5 hours so I was figuring might see a bill between five and 600 like they quoted the car was there overnight went to pick it up the next evening and to my surprise had a bill way over $1000. They didn't do any more work than we discussed. they just marked up the part five times what they paid This young man is obviously getting comfortable and very creative with his billing. as long as he keeps getting away with screwing local people it's going to continue. This was the Garage on route two and 138 used to be an exhaust shop so do yourself a favor. If you do go there make sure he gives you a quote and ask him if he's going to stick to it don't let him say it's an estimate because he won't stick to it. You want a firm quote he needs to be a little more humble and realize we keep him in business. This is a cocky kid that bit off more than he could chew got too big too fast and just trying to make all of this customers pay for it with work. They don't need any good reviews you see on here are more than likely people he knows just walk around the town of Wakefield and ask what they think about his service. He'll go so far as to hold your car hostage if you can't afford to pay his absorbent bill that's usually 80% higher than what he quotes. He's just a bad business person all the way around time to send a message before he screws one more South County resident and he is no longer located in North Kingston they are now located on route two in West Kingston and on 138 he's gotten way too big too fast now he has a bunch of mortgages and he thinks overcharging will pay for them do yourself a favor and drive-by.
