Corn beef hash with eggs country style potatoes and biscuits and gravy
    Jordan H.

Nice little cafe in the Ceres area right off of highway 99. Came here on a Thursday morning around 1030ish and was able to get a table right away. All the workers were very nice with great attitudes and our orders were taken right away. The food is very home style cooking and basic but everything came out very fresh and tasted good. I myself got the Corn beef hash and eggs, my wife got the French toast. Like I said it all tasted good but basic, not necessarily a bad thing if you're just looking for some nice home cooking style food. When I say basic I mean they aren't trying to create crazy style dishes, everything is straightforward (eggs, pancakes, French toast, omelettes, etc.) The food was also good portions and I will say the prices are very fair! I will definitely come back here for a nice easy breakfast.

3-21-2026 I've been here many times and have always received great service. But today was much different. It was the first time in 16 years where I didn't leave a tip and I always tip generously. The impression I was given was that she didn't want to wait on me. She had a cold demeanor. She only came to check on me when she slapped the ticket. By that time I was already done eating. She brought 2/3 of my order out. Then she brought another tables order. She forgot to bring me my biscuit and gravy. I had to grab her attention from across the room and then she remembered. The food here is always amazing! Today I had the Chili Cheese Omelette, a jr pancake, and a biscuit with gravy. For my beverages I had orange juice, coffee and ice water. I always leave 5 star reviews for 98% of the places I eat at.

My husband and I have been going to Sam's for 2-3 years now. The food is delicious. Cooked just how you order and comes to the table nice and hot. The staff are friendly and efficient. They make you feel like one of the family. They always greet me by name when I come in. We even ordered food during COVID and it was still tasty and hot "to-go". I totally recommend this place. It's my favorite restaurant in town. I only wish they were open for dinner. We need a diner in town to do dinner with hearty portions of good old American cuisine. Don't get me wrong. I love ethnic cuisine but we have plenty of those in town. Thank you to Sam's Cafe. You're #1 in my book...Darla

French Toast Deluxe (with eggs, bacon and sausage). Amazing!

The food was good and the service was very good. Nice clean cafe with an attentive staff. The breakfast I had was good yet nothing to exciting about the flavor. A little bland.

We were traveling home a looked for a quick breakfast place to stop at. Sam's Cafe showed up on the map and had good reviews. Sam's Cafe did not disappoint. The service was great. Every staff member was moving quickly and very friendly. Service was on point. I asked for crispy hashbrowns and that is exactly what I got. The food was very good. The omelettes were fluffy and cooked to perfection. The pancake was great. It was light and flavorful. Of course the coffee did not disappoint and our cups were always full.

Very tasty and filling cafe. A salute to old school diner flair in a small town. My friend said he passed by last weekend and there was a line of people that we should check it out. I'm always down for breakfast We got lucky, no line but we did wait a but since the small Cafe had no available tables. We checked in at the counter and we're given a table beeper then asked to wait outside. No worries, it didn't take too long once out group of 3 were seated we excitedly checked out the menus. After my and his mother ordering coffee, he ordered juice, not a coffee guy. Lol. Many options even for me the vegetarian. He had county fried steak, eggs, country potatoes, biscuits and gravy. I forget what his mom ordered and I ordered a veggie omlette with country taters, sourdough toast. Near the end of our meal a waitress dropped off a plate of pancakes. Random. Cool. My buddy packed some of his breakfast and tried out the pancakes. Everyone had leftovers for a whole meal each for later. Yes we had to-go boxes.

The chicken fried steak was huge! Delicious! They didn't have fresh juice so i opted for water. The food was pretty great and the portions were massive! The service itself was ehh but the food made up for it. The coffee wasn't anything special. My son really enjoyed the pancakes. We would probably go again!

From the moment we walked in, we were greeted right away and promptly seated (I had a reservation, but honestly didn't need one around 8:30pm--there were several tables open). For drinks, I ordered the 1915 Elder Fashioned ($20) and my wife had the Peaches and Dreams ($20). Both cocktails were perfectly crafted and absolutely delicious. We started with the Argentine empanadas served with bone marrow and chimichurri--two good-sized empanadas for $24. Great flavor and a solid way to kick things off. For my entrée, I ordered the hanger steak cooked medium--it came out perfect. It was served with Roth Fries, which might honestly be the best garlic fries I've had in a long time. Fresh garlic, Parmesan, parsley... just done right. The steak was topped with chimichurri and came with two dipping sauces--everything worked. My wife ordered the Kung Pao Street Noodles with grilled prawns ($36), and she loved it. Overall, great atmosphere, friendly staff, and a standout experience. Our waitress, Janet, was amazing--super attentive and helpful. Whenever I asked about dishes I saw coming out, she was more than happy to explain them. We'll definitely be back.

The food was just your typical diner type, greasy spoon kind of place. I got an egg white omelette with ham (looked like cut up pieces of thin sliced deli meat) and asked that fresh potatoes be boiled in water or steamed in water due to food allergy. What I got was fried potatoes. When I questioned the server he just said that's how they come. Do they not have raw potatoes in the back they could have boiled for me?? The taste of the omelette was meh and I only ate 4 bites. I obviously didn't eat the potatoes. The English Muffin felt oily, like someone touched it with greasy hands. I had asked for it to be dry and with no butter. So basically I didn't eat any of my food and will not be back (this was my third time here and none of the other experiences were any better.) Such a shame because it is only 5-minutes from my house. My dad ordered the chicken fried steak and my mom got the taco salad and both of their meals were inedible too. The food here is just BAD. I told the server I didn't like my food and he didn't even answer me. He took away three plates of uneaten food and no one asked if there was an issue and no manager bothered to come over to even talk to us or try and make it right. What a HUGE waste of money. Don't bother eating here...so many other places to eat that are so much better. This place was packed and no real waiting area...everyone just squished together. This is a hustling and bustling place, so if you are looking for a quiet spot, at least don't go when we did. Best part of this place is their wall for taking pictures. I think they care more about making things look IG worthy, than the quality of the product they are serving.

Had an overnight work trip that had me in Modesto so I was trying to find something fun to eat…read more After a bit of research I found this place. I showed up around 7pm and I thought it might have been closed because no one was here. But they were open. I ordered a Bauer burger with the house seasoned fries. They asked how I'd like the egg cooked and the burger cooked: I asked for medium for both. Given how dead the place was, it did take a minute to get my food. The burger was ok, not worth $21. The bun fell apart very quickly which is a bit of a cardinal sin in the burger game. The bacon on the burger was not bacon strips but a bit of bacon crumble. The patty was a bit overcooked so it was dry and it wasn't seasoned so it was bland. The egg was cooked perfectly, but the aioli and the egg yolk with a disintegrated bun made for a huge mess. The fries were interesting. The house seasoned fries are not salted. So the fries were almost sweet due to the spices, but no salt. And they do not have regular table ketchup or malt vinegar. I did ask for some ketchup and they brought me their house ketchup. While not like a classic ketchup, it was actually quite good. Oh, be aware. They will charge you a 4% fee when they bring you the check (what would have happened if I'd paid with cash?). I do not see anywhere on the menu where they say their is a payment fee so that is a pretty shady business practice. Overall: meh. I think for the price point the burger should have been great, but sadly I can't say it was great or even good. I'd likely not return.

I have left wonderful reviews in the past for this place but I have to share my experience…read morerecently. My boyfriend and I have been to Standard Pub several times during the day, and every visit has been fantastic. We've enjoyed the food, drinks, and even had the pleasure of speaking with the owner on multiple occasions. The service was always welcoming, and the food was consistently phenomenal. Because of those great experiences, we decided to bring some friends on a Saturday night. We arrived around 7:30 PM, and the atmosphere looked promising. There appeared to be a DJ setting up, and the crowd seemed excited for a night of music, food, and drinks. Unfortunately, our experience that evening was completely different from what we had come to expect. We ordered food and drinks, and while our server wasn't outright rude, he seemed uninterested in providing the level of service we had previously received. As the night went on, things became increasingly odd. Shortly after ordering another round of drinks, while our drinks were still full and we had just received them, the server approached our table and asked if we were finished. My boyfriend jokingly responded, "No, let me talk to your manager," and laughed, assuming the server was joking as well. The server responded, "Yeah, it's my brother," but with an attitude that left everyone at our table looking at each other wondering what had just happened. He then informed us that we needed to put a credit card on file. At that point, we had already been there for over an hour, and it seemed strange that this requirement was only being brought up then. We also noticed that no other tables around us were being asked for a card. The most disappointing part came when we received the bill. There was an additional $60 service charge added--$35 on my friends' bill and $25 on ours. Confused, we asked for an explanation. The explanations we received kept changing. First, we were told it was because my boyfriend was sitting with another group, which was completely false. Then we were told it was because the bill exceeded $100. After that, we were told it was because there were more than six people in our party, despite there only being four of us. The inconsistent explanations were frustrating and made it feel as though the staff were simply making up reasons to justify the charge. Our issue wasn't necessarily with a service fee itself--it was the lack of disclosure and the conflicting stories we were given when we asked about it. To make matters worse, the receipt also included a separate line for an additional tip. After discussing it with them and explaining that additional charges should be clearly communicated to customers, the service charge was ultimately removed. This review is not a reflection of the food, which remains excellent, nor of our previous experiences at Standard Pub. It is solely based on the service and handling of the situation during our Saturday night visit. We left feeling disappointed and confused, especially because this establishment had earned our trust through many positive visits in the past. I sincerely hope this was an isolated incident and that management addresses these issues so other customers don't have a similar experience
