    Huevos rancheros

Tucked away in a little strip mall in the not so precious side of Half Moon Bay, Sam's had the best huevos rancheros I've ever tasted! Crispy tortilla, fresh ingredients, and even their own homemade hot sauce! Not cheap, but nothing is these days. Just great food and friendly, attentive service.

I was looking for a lunch spot while I was in Half Moon Bay for the Pumpkin Fest and found this place while walking around. It is tucked away in a plaza with a parking lot. Service was friendly and quick. It wasn't too busy for a Saturday afternoon. Two Eggs Chilaquiles (4/5): This was crispy tortilla chips, roasted chile guajillo-tomato salsa, black beans, queso fresco, sour cream, onions and eggs. I chose my eggs to be cooked scrambled. The dish was a good amount of spicy. I would've preferred refried beans but the black beans were good too. Just made the dish a little wet. It was a nice lunch spot. It gave a small town cafe vibe. I think they have different menus for each season or holiday. It was the pumpkin fest menu when I dined there.

The food is only surpassed by the friendly, welcoming service. The chilaquiles were delicious but the staff really made the experience. They were helpful and welcoming. I couldn't decide between the green or the red sauce so they gave me samples of both. The red sauce is house made. They also have a homemade black sauce that they provide in a bottle for people who like spice. We will definitely return.

The menu is very basic but the food is really fresh and delicious. The service was good and the restaurant itself was spacious and clean. The prices are incredibly high for what it is but I left satisfied.

Pumpkin soup with goat cheese and pepito crostini

I've been waiting and now it's here .... delicious pumpkin soup ! We love Sam's Cafe for their scrambles and delicious homemade salsas - the salsa ranchero is our favorite!! This time of year, they serve pumpkin soup with goat cheese and pepito crostini which is unbelievably delicious! Next on the list to try ... their pumpkin pancakes

Scrambled eggs w/ fresh spinach, well done hash browns, sourdough toast (and ketchup with a blanket of black pepper... I did that).

Sam's is an unpretentious small town cafe with a great choice in the menu offerings, solid food, friendly attentive staff and cozy surroundings. Parking can be a challenge but you can usually luck out since folks are often coming and going out of the small lot on a regular basis. Great centralized location. Be sure to peruse the nearby Twice as Nice for odds and ends at great discounts too! Favorite item are the hash browns - clearly homemade, thick and I highly recommend the well done option for that extra crispiness! The sourdough bread is also SUPER good - the best I've found in a diner. Ask for a side of butter since they go pretty sparse. The veggie benedict was delicous and the poached eggs were perfectly done. Always my first go to when wanting a good old fashioned breakfast option around Half Moon Bay!

Service was OK, but a bit slow. The place looks faded. Food was cooked OK, but serving size was small.

Hard to beat a classic meal like this after a stroll on the beach. Reasonably priced breakfast classics, solidly executed.

they don't really have an outside eating area

Hi I just picked up a Ortega green chili omelette loaded with onions and the menu didn't state onions. I had to trash it due to an allergy and it wasn't convenient to return it. Is the menu outdated?

We got lucky to find a spot right away and had no wait, something that's pretty rare here. A huge shoutout to our waitress, Sulem, who was so sweet, attentive, and genuinely friendly. She found out it was our dog's birthday and surprised him with his own pup cup while we humans enjoyed a delicious Italian affogato. It was such a thoughtful touch and really made our visit extra special :) Thank you! For food, we started with the Kumamoto oyster shooters, which were so yummy! We also highly recommend the house-made potato gnocchi, it was one of our favorite dishes. We tried the Manhattan chowder for the first time, and while I still prefer New England clam chowder, it was fun to switch things up. The local halibut was good as well, though ours was just slightly overcooked. To drink, I had the cilantro gin gimlet, which was light, refreshing, and perfect. Overall, we had another great experience and will definitely be back to try more of the menu. The beach views make this such a charming spot and the outdoor heaters are a nice touch for cooler days. The parking situation was absolutely wild for a Wednesday afternoon. I ended up parking down the hwy and walking over. To my surprise, they had an outdoor table available for the two of us and my dog right away. I also appreciated that they seated me immediately even though I mentioned my friend wouldn't arrive for another 15 minutes. Despite the cool temperatures and wind, the outdoor patio has a beautiful view and made for a very pleasant lunch setting. My friend is gluten-free, and we were happy to see that many menu items were clearly labeled as GF, making ordering much easier. We shared a bowl of Manhattan clam chowder, which was enormous, we couldn't even finish it! We also ordered the roasted petrale sole along with a side of creamy roasted mushrooms. Both dishes were delicious, generously portioned, and perfect for sharing. Our waitress was friendly and attentive, we both enjoyed our lunch and would happily return.

Curious about what the new/old place is like, our three-person family went there for a late breakfast today. Walking up to the front doors, the original inset stained glass remains. Walking in, the cool wood paneling and nautical decor remains in place with a couple of new touches. The fully appointed bar also remains, now with a more streamlined look with subtle lighting changes. We were greeted pleasantly and seated inside the dining room immediately; it was moderately busy and buzzing, not too loud. Our server was quick to our table, menu-knowledgeable and consistent in his attention to us. We had a Denver omelette, a couple of bennies and lemon ricotta pancakes to share. My omelette had particularly fresh and al fresca peppers and onions - wonderful. The lemon ricotta pancakes were sufficiently saturated and fluffy(hard to pull off)and came with fresh cream. The prices were at about the same level as the local competition, which pleasantly surprised us. It appears that the folks who did this breakfast/lunch reboot were shrewd in pricing their dishes. Jetty Wave, a drinks and appetizers adventure(which I heartily recommend as well for different reasons)in the northwestern part of Princeton, is not for the fiscally faint hearted. The only element that makes our experience short of a 5 is that we were not given a farewell when we left, though I was able to find our friendly server and thanked him. In all, the Joanne's legacy is intact - the old carved wood Ketch Joanne sign still hangs inside - literally and figuratively a homage to its legacy while bringing a new energy to this space. Recommended.

We stopped by for lunch on a crisp day, and it completely captured that perfect coastal vibe--think fresh seafood, laid-back atmosphere, and killer views of the boats and water. We started with the calamari, which was hands-down some of the best I've ever had: tender, not rubbery at all, perfectly seasoned and fried, melting in your mouth. The New England-style clam chowder was rich, creamy, with just the right subtle smokiness and balanced seasoning--definitely lives up to Half Moon Bay's chowder reputation. For mains, the Dungeness crab sandwich was the star: generous lumps of sweet local crab, minimal sauce (just how I like it), on toasted sourdough with fries on the side. My partner went with the fish and chips, and the cod was crispy, flaky, and not greasy at all--classic done right. The outdoor patio with fire pits was cozy even in cooler weather, and our server was super friendly, attentive, and full of local recommendations. The place feels welcoming, whether you're a regular from the Coastside or just passing through after a beach walk or harbor stroll. Prices are fair for the fresh, quality ingredients and location--definitely worth it. We've already added it to our list for the next trip to Half Moon Bay. Highly recommend if you're craving solid seafood in a charming harborside setting! 5/5 stars.
