Service was good but I hope they answered their phone. I ordered a big order for breakfast sandwiches and of course it took a while to complete but nonetheless the quality was good and the service is great.

Their glazed donut. Soft and remains formed to your bite, telling us the dough was fresh.

FOOD Sam's Donuts has an impressive specialty donut variety. From the photos you'll see combination of flavors only Sam's does (that I've seen) and they work! If you love donuts, you will anger the heavens if you do not try at least one of these: -Maple cinnamon roll -Apple crumb cinnamon roll -Chocolate cinnamon roll -Glazed cinnamon bear claw Basically, anything in the top 2 left shelves will leave you happy. Regular donuts 1. Glazed = my #1 go to 2. Any cruller (only on the weekends if I'm not mistaken) 3. They have a lemon donut with sprinkles that is delicious (pictured) SERVICE The staff has always been welcoming every time I've stepped inside. Sometimes breakfast places get worn down by the morning personalities that flood their doors (people pre-caffeine), but there remains a refreshing care and upbeat atmosphere at Sam's. AMBIANCE A couple tables are available and they make the small space work well with what they have. Usually there's parking right in front of the door! I love how accessible it is. Places like Sam's are staples in the community, and I cannot say enough how grateful I am that we still have them in the midst of cheap corporate imitations (*COUGH Dunkin Donuts COUGH*) that I will not mention out of respect.

My hubbie and I try to make it to Sam's donuts every Sunday morning when we do our morning rounds with our little baby. My hubbie always gets a breakfast sandwich (sausage, bacon, cheese). You can choose to have it on a croissant or a bagel. He always opts for croissant. The sandwiches are delicious, filling, and prices right. I tried the egg, avocado, and sundried tomato one and really enjoyed it too. In terms of donuts, I've had the apple fritter, blueberry cake, cinnamon roll, old-fashioned. All have been great! But the crunchy (yet soft), perfectly flavored apple fritter is my favorite. Sometimes they throw a couple donuts holes in the bag too which is sweet! Prices are fair, quality is great!

I scream, you scream, we all scream for DONUTS!!! Decided to pass by yum yum donuts and Dunkin' Donuts to support a local shop :-) Came here around 10am, and picked up a dozen donuts for work. From what I remember, minimum cost per donut is about $1.55, and goes up based on type. For a regular dozen it approx. $17 plus tax. Yummy donuts!!! The baker/owner person was kind and sweet.

    Random backstock?

Let me tell you why I give 3 stars The food is good, but the ambience of the store is nothing closer to a library? It's sooo quiet in here and I can hear other people breathing. It makes it feel super awkward when ordering with a line behind you. The store has no style and definitely needs a remodel. This store has potential to be a lot better

Yummy!! French crueler glaze and donut holes!

I have been coming here since I was a little girl. Definitely the best donut shop in San Jose! My fondest memories, the owner throwing in one or two free donut holes. It always made my day lol now my favorite is the maple French crueler a must try!

#9 Turkey Bacon Egg and Cheese croissant Sandwich with added avocado
    Yung V.

I got the #9 (turkey, bacon, egg, cheese, sandwich). Had it on a croissant and added avocado. Total was almost $10. The turkey tasted rubbery. The avocado was fresh. The bacon & eggs were good, but seeing the way she cooked the eggs in the microwave made the whole thing less appealing. Service was meh...She didn't seem happy being there but she did throw in a free donut hole. Maybe life's got her down or maybe it was too early in the morning, whatever it is, I hope she finds a way to enjoy life more. If you gotta work somewhere you don't enjoy working, your customers can feel it as soon as they walk in. It's a competitive business, but if Sam is willing to look at honest feedback and make a few adjustments, this donut shop can have lines out the door. It has so much potential! Good luck Sam's Donuts!

Haven't had doughnuts since my trip w/ the kids to Universal Studios last year. I was asked to get donuts so I happily complied. I parked and thought to myself this place will be like all the other doughnut places but I was wrong. The had 2 or 3 tables, maybe 4 but they were all occupied. The line was forming, when I left the line was near the door. I didn't really read much into everything they had to offer but I wanted a dozen and picked them out myself. She threw in like half a dozen of doughnut holes which made it an extremely sweet treat and generous regardless of the value. They had 3 types of coffee (decaf, dark, and medium roast) w/ cream and sugar on the counter. It can be a little hard to get your coffee fix here because the line will make it hard to maneuver in and out but thanks to an extremely nice clientele that morning I was able to get his decaf coffee w/ cream and sugar. The coffee is constantly being refilled. The doughnuts I tried: old fashioned and chocolate sprinkles tasted great because it wasn't overly sweet like Krispy Kreme and they weren't dry. I'm definitely a fan of this place. Support your local businesses!!

Ask the Community - Sam's Donuts

Does anyone know if the owners of Sams sold their business, we haven't seen them in there in awhile?

It's interesting that when I ask the current workers there if there's a change in ownership, they deny it. I assume they don't want to lose the old customers. But the place has definitely changed since Sam (and Helen I think) left.…

FOOD (Brisket and St. Louis-Style Ribs) I got the brisket and asked for it to be fatty. It was as good as some Texas brisket, and I don't give that comparison lightly. I'm very serious about Texas BBQ. I'm also realistic because Texas-level BBQ is achievable by Californians, but only if they put the time and love into it. Currently (07-24-2026), this brisket has it. The true test is whether it still has it in July 2027. I also had the St. Louis-style barbecue ribs. I wouldn't give them the Texas star of approval, but they're upper-tier California barbecue. That's very respectable, in my opinion. My sides were Caesar salad and coleslaw. Both were fresh and held up to what you want and expect from both. The coleslaw has that expected sweetness, and the salad didn't have a single wilted lettuce leaf. The general feeling I got from Empire BBQ was that they have a strong food-handling system in place. Having fresh salad leaves is a small but sure sign of that. DESSERTS Under the radar, this place is killing it with its dessert selection. Whoever put together the dessert menu must've had fun doing it. I didn't have room to eat any, but boy do I plan to. I won't comment on them, but I added photos of each one, minus their bread pudding which wasn't in the display case. SERVICE Excellent, helpful, and kind. The person who helped me was knowledgeable about the ingredients used and the pricing, making sure I got what I wanted in a way that made sense with the meat combinations and sides. Even the chef went and checked the ingredients so one of my questions could be answered. AMBIANCE I came at around 1 p.m. on Friday, and it was a great setting to watch sports, hear old rock music in the background, and take in the BBQ smells. Plenty of indoor and outdoor seating. I give Empire Armadillo BBQ 5 stars. This is a must-try, with so many more menu items (especially the desserts) that I look forward to trying!

Service was completely overwhelmed on Sunday (Father's Day) and it took a long time to order and then a very long time to get our food. They ran out of fries (wha?) and the cashier said we could get sweet potato fries instead, but didn't mention the upcharge until I asked. Gee, thanks. I'll jump right to the food though. I love pastrami and I love corned beef. I had checked out the photos here on Yelp before we went, and it looked like it had potential. I don't know what went wrong on our visit. I got the Fresser, which has both of those meats. My sandwich did indeed have two meats on it, but both were incredibly bland. One meat - I think maybe the corned beef? - was sliced paper thin (which can be fine - my beloved Manny's Deli in Chicago does it thin) - but this was for some reason then griddled? It was SO DRY - kiddo remarked it was crispier than the bacon we had at breakfast. No flavor to it at all either. The other meat was a little thicker, and so it was juicer, but if it was the pastrami, I apparently didn't get any slices which had the pastrami seasoning on it. The portions were also skimpy. The kitchen was completely slammed and tables sat with empty plates on them for most of our meal (which was really annoying as folks were moving them from table to table to try to clear spots for their groups). All in all, I should've just waited for a lunch at Gunther's to fill that pastrami need!

While I do love just about any and every type of food, there's always been something about a good deli sandwich that brings me back to childhood and my uncle's old delicatessen. I've even gone so far as to institute a "Sandwich Friday" for our weekday dinners, and as of late, we've been going to Zanotto's Willow Glen, as it's on my route home from work, but the other day we changed things up and came to the Sandwich Mill--and boy, I'd forgotten how great this place is! But to keep things fair, I decided to do a sandwich-off and see whose sammy reigns supreme--allez cuisine! Bread: This might be the most important part of the sammich, in my opinion, and The Mill beats the shit out of Zanotto's on this one. Their bread is so soft and fresh, like a pillow that's been in the dryer. While Zanotto's breads, despite how busy they always are, always seem old and stale. Also, The Mill has a croissant option! Winner: Sandwich Mill Toppings: Pretty standard across the board, as both have a variety of mustard, sauces, and the usual cavalcade of classic sammy toppings (e.g., pickles, lettuce, tomatoes, onions, etc.). Winner: Draw Meat: Zanotto's has a larger selection of deli meats, including prosciutto, but The Mill has Italian sausage and meatballs. Winner: Draw Cheese: The Mill just has a small handful of classic cheeses to choose from, while Zanotto's has a bevy of classics as well as some exotic stuff like Hatch Chili Cheddar, Smoky Cheddar, and Horseradish Cheddar, to name a few. Winner: Zanotto's Ordering: Zanotto's doesn't have an online portal, unless you use DoorDash, but then it only connects to the Rose Garden location, which is way across town for us Cambrian residents. Plus, DD equals paying extra $, while The Mill has a really easy-to-use website where the price you see is what you'd pay in-store. Winner: The Sandwich Mill Accouterments: Zanotto's has a whole grocery store of stuff you can buy, including beer and a giant selection of crisps. While The Mill only has a small selection of crisps. Winner: Zanotto's Price: Zanotto's sandwiches are $14/ea, while you can get a regular for $10 or a large for $14 at The Mill. Pro Tip: If you like wraps, The Mill's wraps are easily twice the size of Zanotto's and for $5 less! Winner: The Sandwich Mill Ambiance: Zanotto's parking lot sucks and it sometimes takes forever--especially on weekends!--to get your sandwich thanks to their lack of online ordering. At The Mill you place your order online and by the time you arrive it's ready for you. Easy in. Easy out. Winner: The Sandwich Mill **DING DING DING DING** Conclusion: It was a tough battle, but The Mill comes out on top with a decisive final score of 4-2-2. While Zanotto's is still a damn, fine place to get a sammy, I think we'll stick to The Mill from now on.
