Half of my egg and bacon croissant sandwich.
    Jacqueline C.

Tldr small yummy donut shop. I was walking around the neighborhood and randomly wanted a sandwich. Saw this place and decided to try it out. Really solid croissant sandwich!! I got a bacon and egg w/no cheese and it was really hot (temp wise) and much fluffier than expected. I also got a glazed donut to try and it's just a nice tasty donut. If I am around the area I will definitely come back.

Their glazed donut. Soft and remains formed to your bite, telling us the dough was fresh.

FOOD Sam's Donuts has an impressive specialty donut variety. From the photos you'll see combination of flavors only Sam's does (that I've seen) and they work! If you love donuts, you will anger the heavens if you do not try at least one of these: -Maple cinnamon roll -Apple crumb cinnamon roll -Chocolate cinnamon roll -Glazed cinnamon bear claw Basically, anything in the top 2 left shelves will leave you happy. Regular donuts 1. Glazed = my #1 go to 2. Any cruller (only on the weekends if I'm not mistaken) 3. They have a lemon donut with sprinkles that is delicious (pictured) SERVICE The staff has always been welcoming every time I've stepped inside. Sometimes breakfast places get worn down by the morning personalities that flood their doors (people pre-caffeine), but there remains a refreshing care and upbeat atmosphere at Sam's. AMBIANCE A couple tables are available and they make the small space work well with what they have. Usually there's parking right in front of the door! I love how accessible it is. Places like Sam's are staples in the community, and I cannot say enough how grateful I am that we still have them in the midst of cheap corporate imitations (*COUGH Dunkin Donuts COUGH*) that I will not mention out of respect.

My hubbie and I try to make it to Sam's donuts every Sunday morning when we do our morning rounds with our little baby. My hubbie always gets a breakfast sandwich (sausage, bacon, cheese). You can choose to have it on a croissant or a bagel. He always opts for croissant. The sandwiches are delicious, filling, and prices right. I tried the egg, avocado, and sundried tomato one and really enjoyed it too. In terms of donuts, I've had the apple fritter, blueberry cake, cinnamon roll, old-fashioned. All have been great! But the crunchy (yet soft), perfectly flavored apple fritter is my favorite. Sometimes they throw a couple donuts holes in the bag too which is sweet! Prices are fair, quality is great!

I scream, you scream, we all scream for DONUTS!!! Decided to pass by yum yum donuts and Dunkin' Donuts to support a local shop :-) Came here around 10am, and picked up a dozen donuts for work. From what I remember, minimum cost per donut is about $1.55, and goes up based on type. For a regular dozen it approx. $17 plus tax. Yummy donuts!!! The baker/owner person was kind and sweet.

    Random backstock?

Let me tell you why I give 3 stars The food is good, but the ambience of the store is nothing closer to a library? It's sooo quiet in here and I can hear other people breathing. It makes it feel super awkward when ordering with a line behind you. The store has no style and definitely needs a remodel. This store has potential to be a lot better

Yummy!! French crueler glaze and donut holes!

I have been coming here since I was a little girl. Definitely the best donut shop in San Jose! My fondest memories, the owner throwing in one or two free donut holes. It always made my day lol now my favorite is the maple French crueler a must try!

#9 Turkey Bacon Egg and Cheese croissant Sandwich with added avocado
    Yung V.

I got the #9 (turkey, bacon, egg, cheese, sandwich). Had it on a croissant and added avocado. Total was almost $10. The turkey tasted rubbery. The avocado was fresh. The bacon & eggs were good, but seeing the way she cooked the eggs in the microwave made the whole thing less appealing. Service was meh...She didn't seem happy being there but she did throw in a free donut hole. Maybe life's got her down or maybe it was too early in the morning, whatever it is, I hope she finds a way to enjoy life more. If you gotta work somewhere you don't enjoy working, your customers can feel it as soon as they walk in. It's a competitive business, but if Sam is willing to look at honest feedback and make a few adjustments, this donut shop can have lines out the door. It has so much potential! Good luck Sam's Donuts!

Haven't had doughnuts since my trip w/ the kids to Universal Studios last year. I was asked to get donuts so I happily complied. I parked and thought to myself this place will be like all the other doughnut places but I was wrong. The had 2 or 3 tables, maybe 4 but they were all occupied. The line was forming, when I left the line was near the door. I didn't really read much into everything they had to offer but I wanted a dozen and picked them out myself. She threw in like half a dozen of doughnut holes which made it an extremely sweet treat and generous regardless of the value. They had 3 types of coffee (decaf, dark, and medium roast) w/ cream and sugar on the counter. It can be a little hard to get your coffee fix here because the line will make it hard to maneuver in and out but thanks to an extremely nice clientele that morning I was able to get his decaf coffee w/ cream and sugar. The coffee is constantly being refilled. The doughnuts I tried: old fashioned and chocolate sprinkles tasted great because it wasn't overly sweet like Krispy Kreme and they weren't dry. I'm definitely a fan of this place. Support your local businesses!!

Ask the Community - Sam's Donuts

Does anyone know if the owners of Sams sold their business, we haven't seen them in there in awhile?

It's interesting that when I ask the current workers there if there's a change in ownership, they deny it. I assume they don't want to lose the old customers. But the place has definitely changed since Sam (and Helen I think) left.… Read more

I'd read in the Yelp reviews that a line forms out the door in the morning, but I thought that was only on the weekends. Nope. I got there on a Thursday morning right as they opened at 6am and there was already a line. It took about 15 min. to get to the counter to place my order. Stan's makes the donuts right there in the front of the shop, so they are completely fresh. I ordered one chocolate French cruller and one chocolate crème-filled glaze. The cruller was wonderful. Airy and soft with delicious chocolate on top. Should have ordered two of those. The chocolate crème-filled was not as good. It was too crispy on the outside and had too much warm crème inside. I might have liked it better if I hadn't first eaten the perfect cruller. Stan's only takes cash, but they have an ATM machine in the shop. There is a large shared parking lot. Phone orders must be placed 24 hours in advance. I'll be back for more crullers and to try an apple fritter, which are only served on Mondays.

There's no seating area inside the bakery, but there are some tables outside next to a water fountain. Of the times that I've been there, it's mostly empty and clean, and the trash bins are not overflowing. The donuts are absolutely delicious. The brioche donut is soft but holds the fillings in well. There's also a bit of crunch from the sugar on the outside of the donut. There's an ample amount of filling, so you get to taste the flavors. So far, my favorites are Irish cream, lemon blueberry, and banana cream. It is a bit messy to eat, so have napkins and a small plate to catch any sugar or filling that may fall out when you bite into it. We had their chocolate chip cookie. It looked like a big mound of baked dough. Overall, it was okay. I would easily skip this for the donuts instead. I haven't tried their coffees, but my daughter loves the hot chocolate, and I have been enjoying their calamansi juice. It's nice and tart, not too sweet. I have seen some savory options but have not tried them. I will be back to explore the menu.

The bakery items are reasonably priced, which makes it easy to pick up multiple things without feeling like you are spending too much, and the variety means there is always something new to try. The onigiri selection is what really makes Clover stand out compared to a typical bakery. They offer a variety of rice balls with fillings like spicy tuna, tuna mayo, and unagi, making it a great option for a quick breakfast or light meal. The rice is well balanced and the fillings give each onigiri a different personality. The spicy tuna has a nice kick that comes through without overpowering the rice, while the unagi adds a sweeter, more savory flavor that works especially well with the slightly salty rice. The onigiri are a practical, satisfying choice for anyone looking for something more substantial than a pastry. Beyond the baked goods and onigiri, Clover also has drinks, sandwiches, and desserts including cakes and other pastries. The strawberry cake is a nice lighter dessert option, and the overall menu gives plenty of reasons to visit whether you are looking for breakfast, a snack, or something to bring home. The offerings feel thoughtfully selected, with enough variety to cover different cravings without making the menu feel scattered. Service is friendly and efficient, and the small size of the shop adds to the charm. Since it has become a popular local spot, some items can sell out during busy hours, so arriving earlier gives you the best selection. Parking can also be a little challenging during peak times, but the quick grab-and-go style makes the visit easy to manage. Clover Bakery & Cafe is a great stop for anyone who enjoys Japanese bakeries. The combination of fresh breads, affordable prices, and unique savory options like onigiri makes it feel different from a standard bakery. It is the type of place where it is worth picking up a few items and trying a mix of everything, leaving you with the sense that you have found a little neighborhood gem that delivers on both quality and variety.
