This is a chain out of Huntington, West Virginia with about 40 locations, specializing in serving the classic West Virginia slaw dog. There is as much disagreement about what is the perfect WV slaw dog, and who makes it, as there is about the best BBQ in NC, and who serves it. These folks serve a very limited menu - hot dogs with either mild or hot chili (I'd go with hot) with topping of ketchup(I know, I know), mustard, onion, and coleslaw; BBQ (I'd skip this - never order seafood in a steak restaurant rule); potato chips; sodas; milkshakes; and at some locations, spaghetti, with their chili as sauce(I'd go with the hot). That is their entire menu. The key to the WV dog is the slaw - it must be creamy, with fresh cabbage chopped medium, a little salt, and that's about it. The wiener must be of decent quality, and the bun soft to the point of gooey. Some folks put both onions and slaw (the purists believe they will go to hell for this) on their dog. These folks make a very good hot dog, chain or not. The closest one to Greensboro is in Salem, VA, and another in Waynesboro, VA. The stand in Staunton is strictly drive thru, Waynesboro has a small amount of seating, no drive thru.

    They now have FRIES!!!YAY!!

Don't live here, but when in town Sam's is a MUST!! Love the Spicy WV Slaw Dogs!! The new fries are an awesome addition. Plus, the CUSTOMER SERVICE HERE IS TOP NOTCH!!! These guys really go out of their way make sure you feel welcome and taken care of!! I like to order a 6 pack to take home, but live almost 2 hrs away. They have no problem packing my dogs up with separate containers of chili/onions/slaw, so I can assemble at home and avoid soggy dogs!!! So delicious, SO FRIENDLY!!!! You can't go wrong here!!!

Sam's Hot Dogs. Get it your way and substitutions are welcome. Shown here: a WV slaw dog with cheese.

I'm not the world's biggest hot dog fan, but I tell you what: I really like the dogs they serve here. I mean, really. Like, I'd come back here even if it meant driving up from Richmond, just to eat here. I had the WV slaw dog combo: hot dog, chili, slaw and (in my case) cheese with chips and a soda. Magnifique! Staff are smart and friendly and substitutions are welcome.

Great hotdogs at a great price! The service is amazing.

I'm pretty sure this place has closed down, every time in the last two weeks I've gone during business hours they've been closed.

Good fast friendly place to cure your hangover. Good fried pickles and chili cheese dogs and fried cheese sticks hit the spot.

Simple but perfect hot dogs; I tried their special (without mustard, not my cup of tea) and it was delicious.

This place started around 1952. The order was given from a touch tone phone at the table to the front counter. We thought tnat some of the younger customers would not know how to use a dial telephone. Drive through service is also available, as it has been since the 1950's. Ordered a burger basket (burger and fries) $8., a chicken tender basket (five chicken tenders with fries) $11.50, onion rings, chocolate malted milkshake, chocolate ice cream dish, We got the food in about fifteen minutes brought to our table. Very reasonable. The 2 oz burger that I received was worst of all the items that I had. It was tasteless and reminded me of a smalll burger at Burger King. 1.5 stars. do not recommend it. We hope that the recipe for the burger would be improved. The crinkle cut French fries were average 3 to 3.5 stars and not plentiful. Could have used more. The onion rings were one of the two great items that we had. They were very good in every way. 4 plus stars. My mallted milk shake was good and the price was reasonable. It was appropriate for a 1950's restaurant. 4 stars. The chicken tenders were large had good taste. 4 stars. Rolls came with the chicken tenders. They were soft and had good taste. 4 stars. The chocolate ice cream, along with the onion rings was the standout best item that we had. 5 stars for the chocolate ice cream. It was creamy with a deep chocolate flavor and the ingredients in it were quality ingredients. Loved it. We enjoyed the good music with the meal. Everyone who worked there was very nice to us, including the manager. We will love to dine there again and hope that it can be soon. Thank you for the nice 1950's style food.

The wait was longer than expected, and the service was below average, largely because the restaurant appeared busy and understaffed. There were other frustrated patrons having a similar negative experience waiting around as well. That said, the food was so delicious that I was able to overlook the frustrating pickup experience and still give Gloria's top marks. I honestly can't recall having better pupusas anywhere. The ingredients were fresh, the flavors were full, and each dish felt homemade. I'm still thinking about it days later. A genuine word of warning: if Gloria's is your first stop in Staunton, you may not feel much motivation to try anywhere else for the rest of your trip. It sets the bar that high

Didn't get an opportunity to see the indoor section of the restaurant. The server was very friendly, but they were very busy and it did affect speed of service. In terms of beverages, I ordered horchata because I always order horchata. I have yet to meet a horchata I didn't like, and this was no exception. Sweet and delicious. I ordered birria tacos and a loroco pupusa. The birria was tasty and savory, as to be expected. Like most people, I dip my tacos in the broth because it's delicious. The loroco pupusa was really cheesy, which is a plus for me. All in all, this was a great place and I look forward to going back to try other items on their menu.
