This place was our go to when I was living in Dobbs Ferry. Recently my sister was visiting and we drove down to see our old neighborhood and then get pizza from Sam's. The owner, Maurice I believe was quite rude. He told me the total and then asked "can you pay?". Now reading the other reviews and I see many others with similar experience. So disappointing. Appetizer was of course stuffed zucchini flowers served with marinara. Main was eggplant parmigiana. Both cooked to perfection. Our server was attentive and didn't rush us through our meal. On the web , the restaurant is opened at 11am but the take out section is open before 10:30. My 1st time at Sam 's like the old saying early birds catches the worm, that exactly what I got, nothing but freshness , each bite from slice has the crispness of the crust with the taste of the char on the bottom, they are very generous on toppings. The Italian wrap is made fresh and pressed nicely in the panini maker to keep a tight seal. You can dine in but it's tight and limited. Outdoor dining is the way to go. It was bland and saturated in oil. The garlic slices must've been sitting around for a while, because there was no flavor. The chicken scarpariello, did not consist of the traditional chicken thighs... instead there were five pieces of chicken breasts, three small pieces of sausage (not equivalent to a half sausage) and some peppers. Well....my fellow diner got sick that evening and it wasn't digested well. Where was the traditional chicken thigh and sweet sausage for this meal? The fettuccine Alfreda sauce was soupy rather than the thick Alfredo base. And the finale... shrimp fra diávolo was beautifully plated, gi-normous meaty shrimp plated with a ring of fresh mussels. The heat was lacking on this dish - where was the pepper? Previous to this evening we ordered NY italian cheese pizza which was awesome! Nice thin crust and fresh cheese. Sometimes when I give places a 3, people may think that it's a bad review. Actually, the 3 doesn't mean it's bad- it just means that it was average. It's just that I'm used to eating certain things one way so when I'm offered it differently, I'm sidetracked. It is what it is. As soon as we finished with our errands in Dobbs Ferry, hubs decided to come here for a wholesome meal. Located on Main St. in town, sidewalk seating was in full effect and poppin on a Friday night turning the dial on with a music duo playing Journey, Chicago, etc renditions. Sam's is huge- almost looks like it takes 1/2 a block. May be an exaggeration- but even from where we sat, there was still another dining room to our right, the center where we sat and a spacious bar area to the left. Although Sam's isn't pushing any boundaries, the food was ok. Bread basket was warm and filled. My Lemon Drop Martini was potent and knocked me out silly and our cold Seafood salad was good. Hubs went for the grilled pork chops and I decided on the grilled swordfish. While hubs has ordered tasty pork chops elsewhere, these, according to him were nothing extravagant- but ok. My swordfish steak was skimpy, dry and left most. Now, coming from a Pescatarian, when a seafood dish isn't up to par, that says a lot but I'll call it how it is. Was visiting Sleepy Hollow and was searching for a place to eat and randomly stumbled on here. So glad we did! The food and service was amazing! Absolutely delicious! Reasonably sized portions with prices to match. The place was cozy but also gave an elegant feel to it. Only thing I thought was odd was instead of having the server read out the specials or have a printout of it, they had a giant chalkboard with the specials written on it with the server carrying it to every table while placing it on it's very own chair. That to me seemed very cumbersome and time consuming since now every table would have to wait until one table is done before looking over the specials. read more

Stopped in over the weekend for some pizza. We sat outside at one of the covered tables. It was a nice area. We ordered a chicken Parm slice a chicken scarpariello slice and a couple of plain slices. The pizza was great, extremely crispy. The scarpariello was garlicky with a hot kick to it and just perfect. Loved it! There is nothing soggy about their pizza! The crust is very crispy and holds up. We've eaten both outside and inside a few times, now that the Covid numbers have improved in Dobbs Ferry so yesterday when it started to rain we were happy to get a reservation. The place was pretty crowded by current standards, almost like the old "pre-pandemic" days! We started with the Caesar salad (not thinking that the dinners usually come with a salad). Generously portioned, fresh and crisp romaine lettuce, flavorful dressing and toasted croutons. For dinner, she ordered grilled pork chops, I, the veal osso bucco special. Both were well prepared and nicely served. The veal, served over rice, with some sliced grilled mushrooms and string beans sautéed with garlic was flavorful and falling off the bone tender. I will start off by saying Sam's has some of the best bruschetta I've ever had. I could eat that as a meal on its own, which I highly recommend ordering. I felt like i was back at my grandmas house as soon as i walked in. It has a very cozy and homey feel to it. And then the food comes out and it all makes sense. We ordered both the cold and hot antipaste which are a must, especially the hot. By the end of dinner, i was ready to be rolled out, for all good reasons of course. TRASH BECUASE when I buy pizza or anything I always see bugs or flys on the FOOD and they just don't care they just sever you it when it's infested with germs and don't use gloves in the kitchen and smoke behind of the building the chef is mean to the kids and they are rude lots and lots they don't learn when someone tells them stop the food they use its around 3 months and they are still using it to feed other and it's has dead animals they just remove it and act nothing happened I'm pretty disappointed at this restaurant 1/5 maybe 0/5 I hope they change and do better. read more

I stopped into Sam's Italian Restaurant for dinner last night and I am happy I did! As someone who was knew to the area I relied heavily on my fellow yelpers to find somewhere yummy and affordable for dinner. I headed in at about 5:30pm and sat at the bar where I was greeted by a friendly bartender. The menu was huge so it was difficult to decide what I wanted but eventually I decided to get veal. I am always nervous to get veal out because sometimes it ends up being too tough, however, the chefs at Sam's knew exactly how to ensure it melted in my mouth! Each entree comes with a yummy salad and a side of pasta or potato and vegetables. If you're in the area I would certainly suggest stopping by and giving it a try. My only warning for you is that is is street only parking and there is absolutely no service in the restaurant you'll need to ask for the Wifi password! read more

Pizza is not good. Margherita is just a regular pie with DICED tomatoes thrown on top. Bosciaola has sautéed mushrooms that must come from another dish in the restaurant strewn on top. Crust was decent and sauce was good but couldn't save the pizza. I have never tried the restaurant proper and have heard good things about the food, but avoid the pies. So disgusting, I called Sam's Italian restaurant and was put on hold then asked what I wanted to order, I gave the guy my order asked 3 questions with each he had to say hold on let me check. The when I went to add something to the order the owner came on and said you can't be on the phone for over 6 minutes placing a order the guy has 2 others on hold . Mind you the orders was $130.00 Also my grandmother owned a restaurant for over 30 years If I ever spoke like that she would have killed me. I will not order anything from them ever . I've planned two work holiday parties here and Sam's is THE BEST! They have amazing food and such a selection, friendly and attentive staff and work with you to make sure your party is a hit! The back room is always set up nicely and is warm and inviting. It's one thing to allow delays, miscommunications or other issues to delay a take out order. It's another thing entirely to be rude to customers about it. Obviously they were having some issues with their take out operations as; when I walked in, they couldn't find our order immediately; when they did we were told it wasn't ready and would be a little while. NO PROBLEM. When the food, which I had confirmed with the guys working 3 or 4 times as we confirmed the order, was ready i waited as they boxed it up. I sat there a second before one worker behind the counter told me this was mine and I was all set. THEN, some asshole yelled at me. Took the food from my hand. Asked the name on the order, and before I could even answer the guys behind the counter confirmed it was mine. He checked the bill attached to it and told me to take my food. Attended wedding reception in front room this past Saturday afternoon. Every aspect of the dinner was excellent. The appetizers were exceptional, stuffed clams and cold antipasto plater were great. Fresh mozzarella with Italian meats (prosciutto & soppressata) was to die for. I had veal as a main course, it was prepared perfectly. The service was also fantastic. This restaurant is charming and cozy. The staff is extremely friendly and you feel like you're a guest in their home. The food is good and it's a great place for the whole family to enjoy. We had the pasta primavera and sole as well as the crostini, calamari and the breaded veggie platter. Everything was like a home cooked Italian meal. The area is walkable and pleasant. Although the food was delicious, I was completely turned off when it came time to pay the bill. Management/ownership has jumped on the bandwagon of charging a 'Non Cash Adjustment' fee to help pay their credit card fees. I know this is legal, and I also realize it's management's prerogative to charge such fees. However..just because you can, doesn't mean you should! Credit card fees are a part of doing business. I know, because I own one. If you cannot afford to absorb those fees, either accept only cash or close your doors.
