I came in last week with a coworker to get a sandwich. We went around noon on a Wednesday. It wasn't too busy. There was one person inline and while we were waiting another person joined us in line. My coworker loves their sandwiches. She always gets the Pastrami with all the fixings and extra mustard. She likes it with mustard on both sides. I on the other hand don't particularly don't like mustard so I request no mustard on mine. It's impressive that they know her order even before she says it and they knew the order of the gentleman after us too. While my co-worker's sandwich was toasting he helped the gentleman behind us and he made it up so quickly that his was finished and he was on our way before ours came out of the toaster. I've had there sandwiches before. I got the roast beef and loved it. It's so big that I shared it with my husband and we were both full. read more

Workers were very rude . I came in with my service dog due to having a medical episode and it being hot out . We were out on a walk so she wasn't in gear but she still will always behave how she is trained to . She walked in a very nice heel , sat while i checked out and we were ready to go . The old guy was very rude basically saying i need to leave her outside or carry her i stated she is a service dog but bot in gear because we were out on a walk . He proceeded to say i need paperwork and after stating that not how service dogs work he didn't care and was very rude the whole time . I will be reporting to the department of justice also as he is discriminating against disabled individuals. The gear does not make the dog the training does . read more

These are my favorite types of businesses. It's a hole in the wall that the locals know and if you don't do the research (Yelp is great for this) or if you don't know someone to recommend it you'll never have the experience. I was actually talking to some Elites at a Yelp event at Society Bistro when I mentioned wanting to check out Sam's and they insisted I needed to go. Not only that, but I needed to get a sandwich with their special sauce. I paid attention recently I was in the area and had the chance to stop in. It really is a little hole in the wall market. The sandwich area is in the back, and they have other items like bao, burritos and a few other foods available. As soon as I saw the menu I knew I was going to order the submarine. They recommended I order it with their jalapeno sauce and when I brought up needing to try the special sauce (I asked if the jalepeno one was that) they said I should do jalepeno on the submarine, but that the "special sauce" would be great on the pastrami. I ended up ordering one of each. While they made the sandwiches I walked around and I ended up picking up a couple Arizona iced teas and a fresh persimmon. They had a good variety of drinks, some candies, snacks, cookies and even donuts. We talked to the staff as well and the woman at the front was so nice and we learned is 94! I ended up taking the sandwiches home and the pastrami was just under $11 and the submarine was under $9. Both were solid, flavorful and had nice fresh bread. While they weren't piled high with meat, there was a solid amount and they were filling. I will definitely be back again, it's a solid lunch spot! read more

I went to the sandwich shop inside of the market. I heard about this place from my wife. When I entered in the market I was greeted by staff. The staff is very nice and friendly. Such a cute little market on O street in midtown! You can tell this place is the definition of mom and pop! I stopped in to get a sandwich. It was roughly $8. Quite a deal! I got turkey with cheese and a few veggies. The guy making the sandwich was very friendly and told me what they were out of. When I checked out it was a husband and wife running the cash register. Both very sweet and thanked me for coming in. I didn't get a ton of pictures... however they do sell bags of trail mix and pre packaged looked homemade cookies! Sam's Market is a family owned little neighborhood market nestled in the downtown Sacramento city 'burbs. They have been around since 1940. But they have been at their current location, on the corner of O and 13th Street, since 1957. You do the math... I did, they have been serving the downtown community for 82 years!!! The family is so welcoming and the matriarch is in her 90s and still lively and adorable as ever. They are a convenience store with a cold sandwich deli counter. The sandwiches are simple and tasty. Fresh deli meats, quality brands. Those are what lured me in twenty years ago and keeps me coming back. My fave is liverwurst. They have a bunch of other options. But can't go wrong with the other offerings... turkey.ham, roast beef, pastrami, tuna, bologna, salami, and egg salad. Sandwiches run about $7-8. This is a great local neighborhood place to grab a quick fresh made sandwich, snacks, and cold drinks for a weekday lunch. The snacks range from chips, crackers, cookies, ice cream bars, ramen bowls, frozen meals, and candy. They also sell lotto tickets and starchers. They have quite an impressive history of winners. I confess, this is my favorite place to buy my tickets. I haven't hit the big one yet but have had more winners here than any other place. Sam's Market has got a vibe! I didn't know what to expect when I first visited Sam's Market. Just thought I'd randomly walk into a corner market in the middle of downtown/midtown. Come to find out they sell sandwiches for under $10.00, it's a hole in the wall, Asian family owned, sells lottery tickets/scratchers, and the place is small but got just enough items to satisfy. The pastrami here is BOMB. They do their sandwiches right. I don't know what it is but I've never been disappointed. I've allowed my palette to venture out, said yes to mustard on my sandwiches (not a fan of mustard by the way) and they've all made my taste buds dance to my eyes popping wide open. Only place I'll accept mustard in my sammies! Ingredients are fresh and good quality for sure. Oh goodness, I even tried liverwurst and turkey pastrami for the first time and the workers were scared for me. Owner said, "Good luck!" Small family owned by chinese-american family. They've been in business for 50+ years and I see Sacramento Kings players here from time to time. They have the best chinese chicken salad (the dressing is the best part) and the sandwiches are amazing! Make sure to get yours on a french roll or to try the secret jalapeño sauce! The store has a very nostalgic vibe and antiques around the store. Products are constantly restocked and they also carry a variation of chips and drinks. There's also a small section for fresh fruits and non-perishable food. The older woman who works up front is so sweet and everyone here is very friendly. No one rushing you or making you feel obligated to buy something like at other small corner stores. Small, Asian, family-owned market that serves liverwurst sandwiches!! Liverwurst is similar to pâté, but like in a sausage form that is then typically served in round slices. The taste and texture of liverwurst is very similar to bologna, but obviously tastes more like... liver (somewhat gamey). Not a lot of places serve it, so it's hard to find when the craving comes around. I had a liverwurst sandwich with mustard, mayo, and lettuce of dark rye (you can choose what you want on it). The rye is more like a white Wonder bread, but just dark - still, soft and pleasant. Perfect amount of liverwurst. The sandwich here is about $6 and the quality will remind you of a sandwich you were provided for an elementary school field trip. I'm not complaining - it was very satisfying, but that's what you should expect. Sam's is also right across from the Capitol park, so you can eat your sandwich there and watch birds. There is a minimum of $15 for credit card purchases, otherwise there's a small fee. read more

When i entered the store in my disabled vehicle one of the family members that operate the store told me that I broke the door. Excuse me. I pushed the dial for the door to open and it didn't so I had to manually open the door and let myself in. And reaking from this family member was alcohol so strong you could smell it outside. As I made my way to the counter I had my 3 year old grandson and he has ADHD. He couldn't figure out which candy he wanted so he got upset, all the choices frustrated him. I was trying to deal with him and make my purchase. I began to tell my grandson come on but he still was in his temper tantram mode. The family alcoholic came and yelled at my grandson. I will never go into this establishment again. My packages get delivered here by FEDEX and I will call them on Monday and let them know never leave my packages here again. I lived in this area for 10 years and I stopped going in this store a long time ago. I don't think they are as friendly to African Americans as other cultures. Found this awesome place in downtown Sacramento it's definitely a hidden family owned gem.. Upon entering was greeted by friendly faces and some old world charm. As I looked around I saw many things from different time periods.. when I ask they told me the place had been run by same family since the 40's and over 4 generations. One of the coolest things I noticed was this old butcher block(that they still use) the only other one I've seen like it was at the Winchester mystery house.. well I order a sandwich and tried their Asian chicken salad and definitely was impressed! Sam's Market nestled in the midtown/downtown area on the corner of O & 14th Streets, a block south of the Capitol. Is a quant little market, exactly what you'd expect a market in this location to be. I usually go here to pick up packages left for me by UPS, when they cannot deliver them to my nearby residence. The couple who work there, owners? are always very nice. They don't have late hours, but that's probably better anyway. As Sam's is located in an urban area, and many residents are livings nearby. My boss introduced me to Sam's Market and recommended the Chinese chicken salad. The salad ingredients were standard; shredded lettuce, chicken breast pieces, fried noodle pieces, pickled onion and almonds. What makes the salad is the dressing. For the uninitiated (and that would be me) you order and receive your salad at the back of the store and then pick up a dressing container at the front of the store. The generously sized salad was only $4.95. My boss ordered off-menu. She had a tuna salad topped with egg salad sandwich. My parents love that combination. Boss developed her taste for it from a co-worker. Are there other weird people out there like the folks and boss?
