These are my favorite types of businesses. It's a hole in the wall that the locals know and if you don't do the research (Yelp is great for this) or if you don't know someone to recommend it you'll never have the experience. I was actually talking to some Elites at a Yelp event at Society Bistro when I mentioned wanting to check out Sam's and they insisted I needed to go. Not only that, but I needed to get a sandwich with their special sauce. I paid attention recently I was in the area and had the chance to stop in. It really is a little hole in the wall market. The sandwich area is in the back, and they have other items like bao, burritos and a few other foods available. As soon as I saw the menu I knew I was going to order the submarine. They recommended I order it with their jalapeno sauce and when I brought up needing to try the special sauce (I asked if the jalepeno one was that) they said I should do jalepeno on the submarine, but that the "special sauce" would be great on the pastrami. I ended up ordering one of each. While they made the sandwiches I walked around and I ended up picking up a couple Arizona iced teas and a fresh persimmon. They had a good variety of drinks, some candies, snacks, cookies and even donuts. We talked to the staff as well and the woman at the front was so nice and we learned is 94! I ended up taking the sandwiches home and the pastrami was just under $11 and the submarine was under $9. Both were solid, flavorful and had nice fresh bread. While they weren't piled high with meat, there was a solid amount and they were filling. I will definitely be back again, it's a solid lunch spot!

I went to the sandwich shop inside of the market. I heard about this place from my wife. When I entered in the market I was greeted by staff. The staff is very nice and friendly. I ordered the turkey pastrami on soft roll with pepper jack cheese, lettuce, mustard, pickles and onion. The sandwich is delicious and very filling. The ambiance is customer friendly. The prices are reasonable and great menu choices to choose from.

    It's the perfect convenience store

This place is awesome. Tiny deli counter tiny store. Almost everything you would need in the middle of your day. Definitely a place that feels like it's always been there. The sandwich is literally the perfect sandwich. It's exactly what you picture when you think of deli sandwiches. Very limited selection and options and it was perfect. The guy running the deli counter was slow but 100% worth it. I don't know why anyone would have a single bad thing to say about this place. For $10 it's double or triple the value of the green and yellow sandwich brand.

Such a cute little market on O street in midtown! You can tell this place is the definition of mom and pop! I stopped in to get a sandwich. It was roughly $8. Quite a deal! I got turkey with cheese and a few veggies. The guy making the sandwich was very friendly and told me what they were out of. When I checked out it was a husband and wife running the cash register. Both very sweet and thanked me for coming in. I didn't get a ton of pictures... however they do sell bags of trail mix and pre packaged looked homemade cookies! Please go support this adorable small business!!!

    Pastrami sandwich! Simple deliciousness.

Sam's Market is a family owned little neighborhood market nestled in the downtown Sacramento city 'burbs. They have been around since 1940. But they have been at their current location, on the corner of O and 13th Street, since 1957. You do the math... I did, they have been serving the downtown community for 82 years!!! The family is so welcoming and the matriarch is in her 90s and still lively and adorable as ever. They are a convenience store with a cold sandwich deli counter. The sandwiches are simple and tasty. Fresh deli meats, quality brands. Those are what lured me in twenty years ago and keeps me coming back. My fave is liverwurst. They have a bunch of other options. But can't go wrong with the other offerings... turkey.ham, roast beef, pastrami, tuna, bologna, salami, and egg salad. Sandwiches run about $7-8. This is a great local neighborhood place to grab a quick fresh made sandwich, snacks, and cold drinks for a weekday lunch. The snacks range from chips, crackers, cookies, ice cream bars, ramen bowls, frozen meals, and candy. They also sell lotto tickets and starchers. They have quite an impressive history of winners. I confess, this is my favorite place to buy my tickets. I haven't hit the big one yet but have had more winners here than any other place. Another thing to keep in mind is that they don't sell alcohol or tobacco products. The place is no frills. Basic interior. Current hours Monday- Friday 9am-5pm, Saturday 9am-1pm. But checkout their IG, @samsmarket916, for the most current hours and happenings.

Small family owned by chinese-american family. They've been in business for 50+ years and I see Sacramento Kings players here from time to time. They have the best chinese chicken salad (the dressing is the best part) and the sandwiches are amazing! Make sure to get yours on a french roll or to try the secret jalapeño sauce! The store has a very nostalgic vibe and antiques around the store. Products are constantly restocked and they also carry a variation of chips and drinks. There's also a small section for fresh fruits and non-perishable food. The older woman who works up front is so sweet and everyone here is very friendly. No one rushing you or making you feel obligated to buy something like at other small corner stores. Side note: They're active on Instagram and give updates on there hours here. @samsmarket916

Cute little corner store, family owned and seems like it has been here a long time. Heard good things about the sandwiches and was not disappointed. Basic, simple, and inexpensive!

So that's exactly what we did. For my sandwich I chose the Corti special. Basically you're able to choose your bread the toppings and some of the other condiments but you are not able to choose your mean. The person making your sandwich decides what they're going to put in it based on the different toppings and condiments you add to your sandwich. I will say that the service was quite quick there were four other people ahead of me and I will say I probably got my sandwich within 7 to 9 minutes. This was perfect time for me because I had never been to this specialty store before so I took that time to browse the area and the different aisles to understand what were some of the things sold there. I will say the space was surprisingly filled with items that were extremely high quality but reasonably priced. Also all the individuals working there were quite friendly they said hi and asked if I needed any help or assistance multiple times from different people. Now the sandwich itself I will say it did live up to the hype that was being tossed around all of Instagram. It was just so high quality when it came to the ingredients the bread was super fresh and each bite just had the perfect balance of meat to bread to condiment ratio. I highly recommend coming to try one of these sandwiches and one thing I didn't say earlier was at 9:00 a.m. it is not that packed so you definitely can get it early and again have it for your lunch later on.

Their ravioli is pretty famous and reminds me of an upgraded version of the nostalgic soft, square beef raviolis that I grew up eating. If you don't want to commit to the entire box of take-home ravioli, you can buy it by smaller tubs from the deli. After 20-30 mins, your sandwich should be ready for pickup. The workers there are so friendly and provide great service. They genuinely seem to like their jobs. We got one guy helping us out from one end of the deli to the other end and he was so patient and happy the entire time. There was a sweet lady handing out cheese samples as well. Everything I tried was so delicious. I especially loved how thin they slice the charcuterie meats where they are translucent when held up to the light. Can't wait to go back for their fresh pastas and homemade sauces.

For those living in the neighborhood this is such a convenient spot. This is a smaller grocery store so you won't be able to find everything, but what they do have is plenty. There's fresh produce, wine, beer, shelf stable items essential to everyday recipes, and where they really shine is their deli and butcher area. They also have some prepared items like desserts, salads, dressings, pickles, dips, and more. On my latest visit I ended up ordering their Italian Hero ($11.99) from the deli counter, and picked up some of their pickles and house made caesar dressing. Everything was high quality and I loved that they have these options available. The Caesar dressing is delicious and I'll definitely be stopping in again for more. I've been using it on salads since picking it up. It had a good amount of parmesan cheese so The pickles have a very unique flavor, they're definitely tasty but not my favorite version of Dill Pickles- they are more tangy and zingy that traditional dill pickles, not bad just not what I expected. (I was thinking more kosher dill, like Claussen pickles or like the pickles you'd get at a Jewish deli). The sandwich was the star of the show, for $11.99 it was HUGE, the Italian Hero comes with prosciutto, mortadella, salami, roasted red bell pepper, and provolone- all sandwiches also come with mayo, mustard, lettuce, tomato, red onion, pickles, and pepperoncini. The combination of ingredients on Dutch Crunch bread was amazing and I think having roasted red peppers as an option is underrated, it elevates a sandwich so much. While I wouldn't do my normal shopping here, I would absolutely come for specialty items or pick up needed items for convenience. I'll be back again soon!
