I had right jaw reconstruction by Dr. Bobek a few years ago. I can't say enough about the wonderful job he did. I never had another problem. My only issue was with Swedish. The recovery nurse, apparently, wanted to go home. She had me practically hyperventilating to get my oxygen saturation up. She was rude. Dr. Bobek is the cat's meow. It is not everyday that you find a doctor who is willing to jump through hoops for their patients. Dr Bobek is the most compassionate, personable, experienced and talented jaw surgeon I have consulted with. His front office team is exceptional as well, especially his coordinator Veah. From paperwork to finding out if tads are being used for the surgery she is extremely thorough and very thoughtful & prompt with her follow up. Dr Bobek & he's office have treated me with the utmost care while I await my surgery. Dr Bobek has also taken his time explaining the process to me thoroughly. I'll start with the Cons: His back office, accounting, and front desk are a totally MESS. Lack of communication, no regard for follow-ups or returning calls/emails, slow on processing anything administrative. Pros: Dr. Bobek fixed my jaw joints and disc issues. I no longer have the pain that I used to have. He is very good at, diagnosing and performing the surgery which was my ultimate goal. More Cons: All follow up appointments are NOT with Dr. Bobek. He is a mysterious being after the surgery is performed. I had to see his PA Andrea for every follow up visit. Granted she is smart and knowledgeable, I would have rather seen the actual surgeon. Wow. Dr. Bobek is top notch! I was referred to 4 different doctors, specialists and surgeons. I finally researched a jaw surgeon on my own and came across Dr. Bobek's office. From the first phone call to ask questions I was immediately impressed. The surgeon coordinator answered all my questions, which all the other offices didn't and took her time explaining treatments to me. The assistant, Silas was wonderful!! They took their time helping me feel comfortable, answering questions and keeping me relaxed and ready for the procedure I was getting. They even gave me a little recipe booklet for soft foods to eat. Then Dr. Bobek himself. He is so patient and kind. He took time explaining treatment to me, showing me visuals and explaining my MRI to me. He wanted to do all he could to help me without going straight into surgery, which is a good sign, because a lot of surgeons will just tell you to get surgery. He called and checked in with me a few hours after my procedure. Such a gem!!! read more

The medical visit was great; however, working with their office to get a prior authorization with my insurance has been a not-so-fun dance of calling them, they don't answer, they don't call back, I call a million more times, they finally answer, tell me to talk with my insurance, and then they never address the issue my insurance says needs to be addressed. In short, no one has really taken initiative to help me and figure out what needs to be done so I continue with discomfort, pain, and headaches. It has been almost a year that I have been trying to get a prior authorization...I have been told they experienced some staff changes but nothing has ever been resolved. Go somewhere else to avoid this colossal waste of time. It is so frustrating to work on this for so long and no one cares enough to answer the phone. read more

Bobek's office is just a chamber of horrors, a terrible experience for my autistic, T1 diabetic, epileptic son. My son needed oral surgery. Bobek's office is poorly located and the parking situation is awful. Visit 1, we were about :10 late due to parking and office location hassles and we then had to wait TWO AND A HALF HOURS to see him. After visit 1 I called to set up the next appointment. The person who answered the telephone had little command of English--I could not understand almost anything she said. I asked her to put a supervisor or someone with better English skills on the phone, she hung up on me. I then asked my son's orthodontist's staff to deal with it, which they very kindly did. They had similar challenges. Visit 2 went off without issue. At the end of that visit I needed to set up a series of subsequent pre- and post-surgery appointments, which I did. At NO POINT was it explained to me that the next one could not be changed or that it would last 1 1/2 hours. I own a business and a schedule conflict arose. I called to change the appointment, but no receptionist answered and I got a recording stating my call would be returned in one business day. I was not, naturally, so I called back the next week. At this point I was told, basically, that not only was the appointment going to be 1 1/2 hours long, which I only then learned, but that I could not change it without changing my son's surgery date! To do this would have been quite difficult, to put it mildly, so I complained about their policy and about not having been informed of these facts in advance. I believe not telling patients of this in advance reflects an incredible hubris on Bobek's part--just incredibly arrogant to assume his patient's parents time is of no value. At great expense and with much effort I realigned my schedule--to my business's detriment--to accommodate the appointment, scheduled for a Monday. Apparently the receptionist did not have a very thick skin when it came to negative customer feedback--about their POLICY, not anything personal--because the preceding Friday, essentially the day before the appointment, their office manager called to inform me that because their receptionist "felt abused" by reasonable questions and pushback on a policy that Bobek was now refusing to perform my son's surgery at all! The office manager who delivered this cheery news could not provide me with ANY facts supporting her decision, nor could she answer a single question of mine regarding specifics! Yes, having a seriously disabled kid you raise on your own DOES mean being a strong advocate, it often means asking questions of medical providers that they do not like or that make them uncomfortable, but my concern is my kid's well-being and health, not the egos of those who care more about process than they do people. I did notice that Bobek seemed cold and disconnected, far more engaged in the technical side of his work than he was in the fact that he is dealing with human beings, so it is little wonder that his office staff reflect his cold arrogance and lack of humanity. Deal with him and his office at your peril. Heartless, arrogant medical providers like Sam Bobek are a big part of why raising a disabled kid is so tough. read more

Dr. Bobek is probably a great surgeon, but he has as of Jan 1st become a private practitioner, which would have been an excellent thing to know when we first reached out to him in the beginning of December instead of getting a run around to wait and wait to make an appointment mid January only to find out that he suddenly no longer takes our insurance. This lack of transparency delayed a move because we had chosen his practice to do a medically necessary jaw surgery based on reputation, recommendation from our ortho and that every single website he's on says he takes our insurance. The admin is very professional, but next time maybe don't waste people's time and just tell them you don't intend to serve regular people anymore. You would have saved us 6 weeks of delay. read more

This doctor is horrible, he always gives plans about surgery no matter you truly need it or not. In effect, many times someone don't need surgery at all, just need orthodontic treatment. Surgery is a black hole, once you do it, you will have endless side effects, probably need another surgery, and another... And it's extremely expensive, I just took some photographs, even no X-rays, it took me $300, my insurance doesn't cover that. Stay away from here! read more

I have a very rare tumor called ameloblastoma that 1 in 5 million people get annually for my demographic. Prior to seeing Dr. Bobek I had 5 operations in 8 years. My last Surgery with Dr. Bobek was almost 3 years ago in October 2016. Presently, this is the longest I have not had a re-occurrence. I appreciated Dr. Bobek. It is indeed very painful for me to write this review. My first double jaw surgery by Dr.Bobek was on August 20th, 2020. I went to correct underbite and mainly my cant/asymmetric jaw. Right after the surgery, I could see the tilted jaw was not corrected. After my persuasion x-ray confirmed my jaws are still asymmetric. He told me he could not correct it because my wisdom teeth were on the way or maybe if he did upper jaw and then lower jaw in that sequence in surgery then it would have been corrected. But it is the way he always does surgery lower jaw first. The irony is another surgeon whom I have consulted but at the end did not go through because of insurance coverage and slightly because dr. Bobek has a high marketing image. That other surgeon told me I must have my wisdom teeth out and his plan had the upper then lower jaw in sequence in surgery and I shared that plan with Dr.Bobek before my surgery and he said his plan will be different. I trusted as my surgeon Dr.Bobek would do all his due diligence for planning in detail before putting me for this major surgery. Did he not do any detailed planning for me then? Unlike another surgeon, he charges $1500 for planning regardless one goes with surgery or not. After surgery, he tried hard to convince me I should do cosmetic dentistry to camouflage my asymmetry of the jaw. I did not do surgery all the way to end up shaving my healthy teeth for. He told me to do ortho work. My ortho firmly told me my cant/ tilted jaw should have been corrected in the surgery, ortho can not do it. as it is a bone issue And also my upper jaw is not moved forward much so teeth are flaring out to be correct by ortho too. I asked him for revision surgery. He was not happy and tried to tell me it is more all in my head then told me to do braces work so he can do surgery again. I disliked so much to put on braces at the age of 40+ but I put it on Nov2020. He and my ortho talked and I earnestly requested them to have a detailed plan for revision surgery so it does not fail. On Dec 2020 on my surgery follow-up appt I understood my ortho is preparing me for djs and Dr.Bobek is for ujs. Dr.Bobek told me your lower jaw is fine what is wrong with it? I will only do upper jaw. So he and my ortho talked and shared xray and plans over this year a few times and it was decided it will be ujs. Though I knew myself my lower jaw is tilted too but again I trusted Dr.Bobek's judgment. And so did my ortho. She prepared as he has asked. My ortho said the surgery will correct the asymmetry and the midline and will show more teeth. God knows I was really counting my days for the surgery. On Nov 2021 after at my preop appt Dr.Bobek told me before he schedule my surgery he needs to tell me this in almost exact worlds - your lower jaw is tilted so I can move upper jaw only as much, so your asymmetry will not be corrected, your midline will be off and you will not be happy with your surgery!!! So he was preparing me for the last one year for a surgery that will do this! What kind of irresponsibility is it? With this mindset how can he hold a knife and do surgery on me? I asked him to consider his part of the cost for the surgery, He said it is an "odd request". Multiple times I had to send 15/20 mails! to his patient coordinator over a period to hear back from her. I realized how hard he was trying to get rid of. me! Not only he did do a first botched surgery on me then instead of taking any responsibility for it, he just somehow put me on a year-long ortho work so on the pre/op he can say me those, that I leave by myself. It is what betrayal is and a clear abuse of trust of the patient. I changed my surgeon. I went to a few surgeons and all of them told me they will need to do djs on me to correct this cant and they will never do ujs on their patient that possibly would leave me with an open bite. I thank god for saving me from another botched surgery by Dr.Bobek. Everyone has to live with their own conscience. He has done me wrong and injustice, causing so much emotional distress not only to me but my kids and family. I pray for justice for it to God. read more

"Hire a genius, then get out of his way." That must be what the Swedish CEO was thinking when they brought in Dr. Bobek from Portland to start Swedish's hospital-based jaw surgery practice. Dr. bobek in some ways is like a TV surgeon. He's tall, strong, confident, a bit distant. But he's also just very present. He genuinely likes giving people nice faces, he really is all about the patients, and he really likes performing surgery. He doesn't have a PA, and does all of his post-surgical counseling by himself this would usually be done by an RN). He only handles the difficult cases. This includes traumas, sleep apnea, TMJ, airway cases, joint replacements, and other corrective surgeries. He does not handle wisdom teeth!! He did my upper and lower jaw surgery last week, a massive eight hour surgery that landed me in the icu. He spent an extra two hours getting the maxilla to move that extra 1 mm he promised me....what doctor would go to such trouble? These operations are no joke! I only have nice things to say about him and his work. My life is so much better because of him, and I'm very grateful. A note about accessing health care and insurance for TMJ. TMJ falls in a dead space between medical and dental. It's covered by my medical insurance, but there are absolutely no MDs who treat it, only dentists. That of course is subject to my much less generous dental insurance. If you are just starting out on your TMJ journey, you have to see a a TMJ dentist specialist, and they never ever take insurance in seattle/bellevue. Avoid regular family dentists who took a three day course on TMJ, that is not the same thing. Your TMJ specialist will work with you, prescribing oral appliances or whatever to try to fix your problem. If you do this for a couple years and it fails, then you may be a candidate for Dr. bobeks surgical services. It's kind of a bummer that this system we have has no doctors who manage ongoing chronic tmj, but it is what it is. If it's been determined, by your outside tmj specialist, that you need major jaw surgery, that's when Dr Bobek gets involved. For me it took five years and lots of wrangling with insurance. read more

I came all the way from Lake Stevens. When we first got here, there was no receptionist. Our appointment was at 1:15, and we arrived at maybe 1:00. For a whole 15 minutes no one came. We tried calling the office (the phone was on silent and didn't ring). All I heard was laughter and talking in what I assumed to be was a back room/office. Finally, a lady comes up who is not wearing scrubs but more casual clothing. I assume she's the receptionist and she asks if we have an appointment. I inform her we've been waiting here over 15 minutes for our appointment at 1:15. She shrugs it off and tells us she was with patients. She then asks us if we filled out the paper work, but we were never sent any paper work. Now we have to fill out paper work, and our appointment was 15 minutes ago. There's no magazines or coffee in the waiting room, and the overall atmosphere is very unwelcoming. I have yet to meet the doctor himself, but this whole first impression isn't a good one. Why do I want to go under the knife if my surgeon can't even run a clinic properly. NOT IMPRESSED!!! read more
