As Webster locals, we loved Samuel Slater's when it first opened, it was our go-to dining out spot for date night and family occasions. But while the service has always been wonderful, the quality of the food has greatly suffered, especially regarding delivery and takeout meals. The last handful of times that we ordered, the brisket, ribs and pulled pork were disappointing and we began to think that the burgers were the only items left worth ordering. Tonight we ordered delivery burgers and to say they were a let-down is an understatement. Dry, not cooked to temp (well done instead of med rare), unseasoned and cold upon arrival. The fries and tots were soggy and requested toppings were missing. We will not eat/order here again. read more

Our first time here and the food and atmosphere was really good! We sat on the deck and we loved how if u sat indoors they open the big doors so you can see the lake from inside. Very pretty! This looks like it is family/kid friendly. My husband and I loved the decor and the staff was great and very hard workers. I've read other reviews how the food is bland but our dinners were great! The menu is slightly limited noting more of BBQ than seafood or meat dishes. I would definitely look at their menu and book a table on their website or call. We saw the desserts which looked amazing but we were too full to try but a lot of people were buying desserts so they must be good. We will definitely be back! I highly recommend! read more

This was our first time dining here coming from out of state. To make a long post short, we will certainly not be returning. We brought in a large party of 10 for a birthday party. One person ordered a cheeseburger that came severely over cooked and without cheese. Another person ordered the most expensive steak on the menu, for his birthday, that was so far over cooked, the meal could not be eaten. In an attempt to remedy a decent time, he had it boxed to take home. But it didn't end with just two meals. The ribs were cooked as if they were taken out of the fridge and served. The manager, Julie, was altered to this issue and, although never apologized, offered to bring a new rack. The second rack came out, purporting to be "right out of the oven", but ended up being just as, if not colder than the first batch. The manager and server were alerted again and we were met with extreme neglect and unprofessional behavior by the manager, Julie. We explained the situation, to which we received no apology, and were told "the restaurant does not comp meals" even after the restaurant failed to serve, not one, not two, but several competent meals. I've read multiple reviews saying their meals were comp for just a single issue. We requested to speak with the manager, Julie several times after who proceeded to hide in the office until we attempted to revive our night and leave this sad establishment. The behavior we received from Julie was extremely disappointing. I am giving this review two stars because there were a couple actually good meals that we received, and our server Kayla was great. read more

Don't be put off by the drive through the trailer park to get there, we have enjoyed two weekend lunches very much. Both the reuben and the French dip had tender, tasty meat in generous servings. The fries were hot and crispy and seemed fresh cut. My friend ordered a salad and took 1/2 of it home. And the pierogies were a surprise nostalgic treat. Service was a bit haphazard, but it looked like the restaurant, like everywhere these days, was understaffed and doing its best. My family, a party of 6, really enjoyed our meal tonight! We started with the "elote" style corn and chips and guacamole - both were really delicious, but I think the corn could have a bit more cheese on it, but otherwise both apps were awesome! The table ordered the white sangria, red sangria, the Lone Star Cooler, and the Kentucky Buck! All the drinks were fabulous, I loved my white sangria. Definitely an "order again" drink! I ordered the Killdeer Island Salad, which was exactly as expected but I was a little disappointed with how lacking the toppings were - I had a huge pile of lettuce but only one slice of avocado, a few pieces of bacon, and barely a handful of shredded cheese. For $14, I really wish I had more of the bacon, cheese, and avocado. I wouldn't order a salad from here again. Honestly, EVERY other part of the meal was perfect! I was just disappointed with the toppings-to-lettuce ratio on my salad. I'm a huge avocado fan and I barely got any. My family loved the pulled pork, beans, and cole slaw. And the cornbread was TO DIE FOR. Definitely the best corn bread I've ever had. The lobster roll was fantastic too - no complaints! I had a bite of my dad's bacon burger and it was delicious! Also, the different barbecue sauces provided at the table are uniquely delicious, especially the house sauce! I'd return just for that sauce alone... For dessert, I split the peach cobbler with my sister. The bourbon whipped cream was the perfect addition to the sweet peaches and cornbread crust! If you like cobbler thats not too sweet, this dessert is perfect! Overall, a MUST visit! The woodsy atmosphere feels cozy but the open, airy, and bright dining area provides it a more "upscale" feel. There's something for everyone here, and I think everyone should try it! read more

The waitress was very nice and helpful ! However , charging 2.00 for olives in a martini was a first ! I have never ever seen that anywhere in the world ! Went there this evening for our anniversary dinner. We ordered Bolognese, Crab Cakes and Caramelized onion risotto. The bolognese had chunks of beef and a tomato sauce that lacked any depth of flavor. I make bolognese at home that was much better than this. The crab cakes were good but there was only a small amount of the lime-cilantro aioli, just enough for one of the crab cakes. Caramelized onion risotto was good but not great. The meal was acceptable until dessert. We ordered the cheesecake with fresh strawberries but then was informed the strawberries did not come in on the daily order. We also ordered the creme brulee. The sugar on the surface was too thick and hard to crack. I informed the waitress that it was too thick and that someone could crack a tooth on it. She said that she would let the kitchen know. I finally got the sugar off of the brulee but then realized the brulee was actually soup as they must have heated the sugar too long and melted it. When the waitress came back I showed her that I couldn't even eat it and was disappointed as I had been looking forward to this for dessert. She then said that they have a set amount of sugar that they use and that the brulee was probably just made fresh today and didn't have time to set. Sorry, but at $7, I should have been able to eat my dessert. Not impressed and not returning.... read more

The slaw was did not arrive with the meals. We asked for it when the waitress returned to check on us. She came back 5 minutes later and said they ran out of it. No substitutions offered. No deduction in the price of the meal. We were brought the dessert sample plate. Not very appealing to the eyes as the samples were frozen, dull in color, and one looked like it had mold on it. Came here for dinner on a Saturday night during restaurant week. Our waitress Nicole S. Was sweet and friendly, very helpful and attentive. The food was excellent. We started with a prosciutto, Brie and gig spread flatbread. I had a duck leg and duck fried rice as my main course and my wife had a Filet mignon cooked to perfection. Everything was flavorful and cooked perfectly as well as presented very nicely. Drink selection is also great and fairly priced. Overall an excellent experience! read more

This place earns a solid four star review because it has great atmosphere, drinks, and service. Being on the lake on a nice night with all the windows of the restaurant open is a great way to spend a night out. The food is decent, but lacking in some areas. We got their barbecue platters, I chose brisket and ribs. The brisket was excellent, and the ribs were okay. They seemed too black in the outside for my liking, but the brisket and sides made up for that. The cornbread was some of the best I've had. The "Lone Star Cooler" mixed drink was so refreshing and a perfect complement to the night. Definitely recommend the drink and certainly recommend the restaurant if you're in town. read more

We had a late seating (not by choice) and they ran out of several items including the prime rib. But ok, running out of a particular item is possible but running out of dessert? Nothing. Mother's Day brunch at Samuel Slater's. Disappointed beyond belief. My husband and I called on Friday evening to ask them to please reduce the number of people on our reservation of 5 by one. My mother in law had fallen at the nursing home on Thursday evening. I offered to get medical documentation for the incident. They said it did not matter it was not within 72 hours of the reservation. I spoke to Julie today the general manager, knowing she would be able to make the change as there are always extenuating circumstances that change policies. There are human elements and the idea behind taking information to hold a reservation is to discourage no shows. We were not a no show. We paid cash for our meals and Julie had my credit card charged for my mother in laws meal that she was not able to enjoy. The buffet was jam packed with people as it is every year. Disgraceful, shameful, and unreasonable practice. read more

My family took my dad out for dinner and the Elvis show last night. This is my first time there and i can say i will absolutely be back. The food was amazing and the show was an awesome desert. I can't say enough about our waitress, she was so attentive. I forgeot he name but i do know she lives in Grafton. The rib eye was amazing, steak tips as well. Dad has been talking about the Southern fried chicken all day and just ate his left overs. On that note we all had leftovers to bring home so i think the serving size is great. Took a ride last night to check this spot out. It was well worth it. The service, including any recommendations, was spot on. All of the food was delicious, the atmosphere was great and it was nice to have dinner with a water view. The restaurant itself is extremely clean, including the bathrooms, which is always a plus and I can't say enough about our service. Crab and Corn Chowder, steamers, lobster strudel, veal Oscar, and bistro filet(all pictured) were excellent. My husband and I celebrated our 48th anniversary here. The chef was amazing, we had the onion soup and the soup of the day, cream of asparagus...for dinner we had had the filet, which was seasoned to perfection with a light gravy and the bolognese....both were excellant. Our server was Nichol S, who was pleasant and very knowledgeable about both drink and food menu, was very attentive to our dining needs and was excellent at making our first experience at Samuel's the best. Thank you Nichol. The management surprised us with a special anniversary cake...thank you, it was unexpected and muchly appreciated. My husband and I went to Samuel Slaters for our anniversary. The staff was very friendly and attentive; the Webster Lake setting was really, really nice. The food, unfortunately, is the reason we won't return. Caprese salad was unusual (in a bad way). It was topped with a flavorless pesto rather than a balsamic reduction, oil & salt crystals. We ordered chicken & brisket BBQ for entrees. Everything (including the corn bread) was so dry and lacking a bold rub flavor. It's probably an ideal place for drinks or small plates. read more
