Just an update since it's been a while... I can't say enough about the sauce. The grandma is just pizza perfection. Every ingredient in this pizza is perfect. It's become our go to pie. The fried zucchini is delicious and, added bonus, it comes with more sauce! The medium order is more than enough for two people. We were sad that we couldn't order delivery anymore when we moved because we were just out of range for the Slice app, but found out that GrubHub will deliver over here and that made us very happy pizza people! Honestly not my favorite place for pizza... however, they have AMAZING WINGS. We have some very critical foodie family and friends (including ones from the south) and they too loved the wings. I've never been to San Gennaro's even though I live just a few towns over. Was at a kids' birthday party at a local MyGym however, and this was the catered in option. Apparently the pizza was just for the kids, which was a memo I had not gotten (probably my fault). I was getting increasing hangry by the second. Ended up stealing a slide (screw those kids) which of course was cut up into the obligatory half slices. This pizza was good for all that pizza ought to be good for. It was a good balance of sauce, cheese was melty, and the crust stood up despite the hack job cutting. End crust was light and airy. Impressive stuff for up here. Here I am in Dobbs Ferry, NY which in and of itself I don't remotely understand why - but here I am! It's lunch time and my wife and I are looking for a sandwich shop to bide us over until dinner tonight in Tribeca. Low and behold San Gennaro's pops up. We ordered a pretty bodacious Turkey Club Wrap. It was quite good. We both couldn't finish this wrap. It came with crisp french fries that were also pretty damn good. When we have traveled in the past, choosing a restaurant is pretty hit and miss. I guess between Yelp, Eater and Thrillist we have moved that pendulum way towards the hit side. In the almost 5 years since I started riding the buses in Westchester County, I've seen the sign on Ashford Avenue in Dobbs Ferry saying "best Pizza" more times than can count. Today, I was granted the gift of a need to transfer buses on this block at lunchtime. Knowing I would have this opportunity, I got the chance to see if the pizza lived up to the sin's promise. Short answer? It didn't. And it did. This isn't the best slice of pizza I've ever had. this isn't the best slice of pizza I've had in Westchester County. But it's quite possible this is the best slice of pizza in a radius of anywhere up to 5 miles. Given the number of pizzerias in Southern Westchester, that's no small statement. I can't say this definitively, because Yonkers, a few miles south of Dobbs Ferry, has a lot of good pizza. But I'd still match a slice from here against a slice from anywhere in the area. Here's why. The standard NY (Neapolitan) slice here has a crust that's the right thickness to hold the cheese and sauce firmly in place without the need for folding. The cheese pulls apart cleanly when you bite into it, with the very enjoyable occasional exception when strength of the cheese resists the bite, and a long, thin strand of cheese pulls away as you bite it, the way you expect fresh mozzarella to, either when freshly rolled or once baked onto a pizza. The sauce is applied in the right amount to balance the flavor of the cheese and the crust, without overpowering either, giving consumer (of the slice) the flavor blend you expect of a good NY slice. And when you've finished cheese and sauce topped portion of the slice, and are left with the end crust, you get the flavor of really good toasted Italian bread with a hint of olive oil you expect when eating a pizza slice - the mild wheat flavor of durum semolina flour brushed with olive oil and baked to a golden toasted brown. The first slice was good enough that I bought a second. My only regret was that I forgot to take my bottle of Diet Coke with me when I left. C'est la vie. I did have just enough to wash down two slices and thoroughly enjoy them. I don't know when or if I'll have the chance to go to San Gennaro again. This was my first chance in almost 5 years to try them, and now going back, versus trying other places in Westchester I've wanted to get to, with limited time and being limited by the bus system, means making hard choices. If I don't get back, at least this is one item done on my Westchester bucket list. On a closing note: they're quite busy during lunch, another testimony to the quality of the food, and many of the customers who passed through in the 20 minutes I was there seemed to know the counterman, and he knew the customers. That loyal following certainly looks to be well earned by my taste of their pizza. read more

This review is based solely on a takeout order. Was in the area recently and we decided to order a large, plain pie from here. I've passed by this location over the years, but never had a chance to try them until now. The pizza was pretty good, though not the best I've ever had at the same time (and I've had them in quite a lot of different locations). People's tastes for pizza differs and despite what some people say, not all pizza is made or tastes the same. The pie was soft in the middle, which made each slice dangle loosely until it was eaten off. The crust was very good. Overall the pizza was tasty and certainly warrants a return. I'm a real stickler for calzones - because much like pizza, not all calzones are made equal or the correct way. Based on some of the other reviews, I will need to try a calzone from here for sure. I've had their baked ziti before too and everything about this place is just what you want in a local take away Italian joint. They even have good salads. Nothing worse than waiting for pizza you ordered only to have it arrive with a wet glob of cheese and most of it falling off the thing. As a lifelong NYer I know the cheese is supposed to stay in place, even if it's extra cheese. So now I have to navigate cutting slices without having the cheese slide off and without serving an "ewww" looking piece to my picky kids. Terrible service, All employees except for one have a terrible attitude. You can wait in front of the counter for 10 to 15 minutes and not even be asked if you've ordered already. There is a mob of people behind the counter call instantly doing absolutely nothing while people are waiting 10 to 15 minutes for a slice. But... I'm not a huge garlic knot fan, but my sister is, and she says this place has the best. If you're gonna order salads, order the dressing on the side, otherwise they drench it all over the salads and it's practically soggy and inedible by the time it comes to your house. Ordered a few main dishes before but not overly impressed. Stick to their pizza. Delivery is usually always on time, but there were some occasions where they took forever. I've been inside only once- small, nothing fancy, like a regular pizza joint. Good desserts- tiramisu and cannolis are great. I have just 1 word. DON'T. We ordered takeout. When it was delivered we were told there was a problem with our credit card so we offered to pay cash. We called the credit card company and they said The merchant never attempted to put the charge through. It seems obvious they just wanted the cash. They also forgot half the order. I requested spaghetti with my dinner and I got linguine. When they went back to get my husband's pizza and returned 40 minutes later the pizza was cold. If this had been put through on the credit card like we attempted we would've had some kind of recourse. But because they forced us to pay cash there is no recourse.They did not offer any credits for the mistake in their delivery and the fact that they sent us a cold pizza was unacceptable. read more
