San Jose Adventure Bootcamp for Women rocks!!! I have to admit I was nervous about signing up, as I was completely out of shape (seriously...I was pitiful). But Brett really encourages everyone to work to their own limits. Initially, I never figured I'd last a week, but I'm now about to finish my second session and looking forward to signing up for the next one. Bootcamp is a blast and it's different every day - something I really love. And the results are fantastic! By the end of week 3, I had already lost 8 pounds! More importantly, I feel better than I have in years. My energy is way up and I see improvements all around. You have got to try it - you'll love it!!! read more

Still a 5-star camp! I've been taking Brett's 5:30am camp since October 2010, and have loved every single minute of it, even when my muscles were burning and I was dripping in sweat. Since I'm broke and have a warped idea of fun, I asked my parents for a 4-week session with San Jose Adventure Boot Camp as an early 30th birthday present. I also talked my mom into joining with me. Mother/Daughter time! Yay! I signed up for a little fitness jump-start, and only intended to do one session, but there are at least a dozen women who apparently attend camp sessions year-round as their regular fitness regimen. So ability/fitness levels vary greatly in the class, but they accommodate all levels well, using minor adjustments to increase or decrease difficulty. The UpSide: Brett is fantastic. Energetic and encouraging, he's constantly threatening to kick someone's butt, but he's all talk. Everyone is welcomed and encouraged to go at their own pace and within their own abilities. The workout is different every day, and it increases in difficulty every week. I found the whole thing pretty fun. My mom and I both lost some pounds, some inches, and some body fat. Not bad for 4 weeks. The DownSide: Camp starts at 5:30 AM, which is completely unholy. I felt like I was sinning against God every morning as I rolled out of bed. My mom thought it was hilarious to say "Happy Birthday!" when I stumbled blearily out to the car. Okay, it was. But there's a 9:30 AM class too for you unemployed types who can simultaneously afford to sign up. I'm totally jealous of you and your trustfunded lifestyle. One note: if you have jacked up knees like me and they hurt a little more every day, it's a little difficult to get the full benefits of what can be a pretty running-oriented workout. I do feel I would have seen greater results if I could have done more of the running stuff. Oh, and my mom warns over-50 ladies to take it easier at first than they think they might need to (depending on your level of fitness, of course). One more note: some of the ladies are apparently over- or under-sexed and think they are far more hilarious and clever than they really are. Brett handles their comments with grace and humor (so props for that), but I just wanted to warn you so you can prepare to occasionally feel awkward. Heh. As I said, I signed up as a jump-start to my resolution to live a healthier, more respectable lifestyle. Brett isn't a wizard, so he couldn't do much for my respectability, but it definitely gave me the fitness boost I needed. I recommend this to masochists and early risers everywhere. Not bad. I did the one-week free trial, but ultimately elected not to continue on. It's not precisely what I'm looking for, and it reconfirmed my aversion to all-female boot camps. I don't know what it is about having only women working out together, but nobody really seems to push themselves to their max. Plus the conversations between the women ("I can't get pregnant," in-vitro fertilization, childbirth, Christian Slater was so cute in the 90's!, etc.) made me want to kill myself. All in all, not a bad workout option for somebody looking for a run-of-the-mill boot camp. read more

I just completed my first fitness boot camp at the Almaden Valley location with Lindsay Barker. I absolutely recommend it to anyone. I am NOT a morning person but would like to become one so I decided to commit to getting up Mon - Fri at 5am to be there on time at 5:30am. I made it every morning which was a surprise to me. After the first day, I was exhausted but hooked. I was very out of shape but could make it through each day (it's great for all levels of fitness) and I felt like a really accomplished something every day. My overall mood improved right away and I felt energized. I shaved almost 2 minutes off my timed mile, almost doubled the amount of push ups I could do by the end of the camp, lost 5.5 inches - 4lbs - and 4% body fat. I have already signed up for the next camp (I thought when I first signed up that this would be a one time deal) and have set my next level of goals. I don't see myself stopping camp anytime soon. Lindsay was great - his workouts were challenging and well thought out - he is a great motivator - cares about his campers - and can help you with any issues that come up (calf strain, limitations, etc). The camp is worth every single penny. I can't believe I'm going to keep getting up so early when it's getting colder - but I'm totally hooked! If you join, you won't regret it! read more

I did the 2007 Holiday Bootcamp (post Thanksgiving-preXmas) at 530am. It was COLD, but it was a lot of fun.. You be surprised what you can achieve. Yes, it was a physical challenge, but a lot of it is mental. My friend signed up for it and was trying to find someone to suffer with her, so I somehow found myself involved. It does help having a buddy to keep each other motivated. For those who are already in decent/good shape, you can still get another workout later on in the day. I would use this workout as a morning booster, then go later in the afternoon to get some additional cardio (30mins-45 mins). Brett is a great instructor with a lot of energy. In any case if you need an adjustment with your workout either with an injury, there is always some modified form of the exercise for you to do. You will see results if you make the effort; however, you need to be honest with yourself. Eating a McDonalds super-sized meal afterwards won't help, especially if you go through the Bootcamp only halfway. read more

love love love this!!!! Brett is amazing and he will turn your life around.. i do the 5:30 am boot camp in campbell. Yes it sounds crazy to be up super early in the morning to work out but I'm just so addicted. The work out is different every single day and you feel so awesome after! From this camp results are amazing! You can loose up to 12 pounds, reduction in body fat, and loom more slim and trim! I love how there is so much variety in this camp and how your able to go at your own pace. It's a great camp for all fitness levels and the prices for this camp are super affordable! They are much cheaper this time around than they were a couple months ago. You will not feel like you wasted your money. You are totally gettting more than what you paid for! I was looking for a jolt in my fitness routine and this is the ticket! The 5:30 camp sounds horrible but at 6:31 you feel refreshed, accomplished, and ready to start your day. Brett has designed a program which offers a wonderful variety of exercises which will get you in shape without a doubt. I also enjoy his nutrition tips as the workout can be negated with poor food choices. It's such a great program that you'll easily change to a healthier lifestyle. I loved meeting new people and the support during the bootcamp too. You're missing out if you don't do this camp!! read more

Are you looking for a good workout in Almaden? Look no further than the Almaden Adventure Bootcamp with Lindsay Barker. With a combination of light running, circuit training and hand weights Lindsay's training will keep things interesting and after a couple weeks you will notice your body changing and your energy level increasing. I have attended five sessions so far and couldn't imagine going back to my boring AVAC workout again. I look better, feel stronger and finish ready to tackle the day after my workout. Yes the workout is at 5:30am at Bret Harte elementary school and yes sometimes it is painful to get out of bed but I make it every morning because I know how much better I feel afterwards. Plus by the time you fully wake up you are 1/2 way done with the workout. I love it that I am done with my workout and ready for the day before most people have even opened one eye yet. I have also met some really cool ladies at the camp who all help make it even more fun. I was a little scared by the name 'bootcamp' at first and although Lindsay does wear black boots, it is a truly supportive and fun workout and it will help you push yourself to lose weight and gain strength. Everyone starts at different levels and with different goals but after just a few weeks everyone gets better, stronger and faster and it is so cool to watch. Bootcamp may be pricier than a typical gym membership but you will see results and it is so worth it....and it is right here in Almaden which is a huge bonus. OMG! I just finished bootcamp yesterday and I feel amazing. I lost almost 4 lbs. and a total of almost seven inches. at first the thought of working out like that was a bit scary to me, but I found that the hardest part was getting out of my cozy bed at 5am. once I was up I was hungry for a great workout and that is what exactly what I got! Brett and his crew know what they are doing and you will get results. No two workouts are ever the same and it's a great oppurtunity to meet other gals with the same motivations. San Jose Adventure Boot Camp in my opinion is the best in San Jose. Brett is very knowledgeable in womens fitness, including FAT Loss, nutrition etc. I look forward to the camp each morning. Each day we do something different which keeps the camp interesting and fun. I would recommend this camp if you want to lose fat and get fit! I have attended the Almaden site of San Jose Adventure Boot Camp since April and I love it. The class is taught by Lindsay Barker who is a very good since he changes the routines daily so that it is not boring. The class time of 5:30 am is perfect since it gets you up and active for the rest of the day. I have trimmed down my weight and a few inches. I am still taking the classes for maintenance. read more

This is my 4th and final week in the bootcamp. I am having so much fun at this! I am so not a morning person, but I am actually looking forward to waking up at 5 every morning to go to this. You will feel so great after the workout. Yes, it's early, but I think it actually works best if you have a full time job. I know it's really hard to squeeze a work out at lunch time so early morning works well for me. The workout is tailored to all fitness type. I have not worked out in years prior to this, and I can follow the exercises pretty good. Brett is awesome, he has a great method to keep you motivated and making exercises fun and enjoyable. I don't know if my scale is the most accurate, but I think (and hope) I have lost about 6 lbs since I started. For sure I have lost inches in my body. I highly recommend this to everyone. read more

It changed my life, physically and mentally. I have been going to San Jose Adventure Bootcamp at Achievement Fitness for over a year now. And let me say I have never had such positive experience working out before. When I first started in January of 2013 I was inactive, lazy and eating whatever I wanted. I was squeezing myself into a size 12. When I started to see pictures of myself and the weight I had gained over the years I had to make a change! I just happened to find San Jose Adventure Bootcamp online and signed up for a years membership right away. I wanted to really commit to a change. The first week was challenging as I had to get up a lot earlier than I was used to. I was also sore the first couple of weeks. But I kept going. I also learned a lot about nutrition, a key factor in weight loss! After about 2 months my clothes were starting to get baggy and I was feeling stronger. With the encouragement of Coach Brett and the women in the group I was able to get down to a size 6 by my wedding in September. What a confidence booster! I had started running throughout the summer with some of the women and in October I ran my first half marathon! I never would have done that without the encouragement from the bootcampers and Coach Brett. By December I dropped down to a size 4. And not a skinny, weak size 4 but a strong, lean size 4! Can you believe it, a size 12 to a size 4 in just one year! Positives: -I get my workout done early in the day -It's a full body workout, nothing is left out! -There's variety of strength, metabolic and cardio -I continually saw results throughout the year -I learned so much about nutrition and diet, very important for weight loss -Coach Brett is professionally trained and loves what he does! -Coach Brett is really good about focusing on exercise and movement to help individuals -I love working out with an encouraging group of women -Gain confidence! Challenges: -Getting up really early in the morning, it's still a challenge for me -Motivating myself to go instead of sleeping in, I've never regretted a workout! -Feeling sore for the first couple of weeks, take some Advil and keep going! -The workouts can be tough, however Coach Brett is sensitive to individual needs and working on corrective moves -If you hit a plateau (I did several times) don't give up and keep going, you'll eventually see results Price: The prices vary depending what you sign up for. I signed up for a year membership 3 times a week because that was the least expensive, about $165. a month. But I found that the price is totally worth it because Coach Brett and his wife Denise are professionally trained and are continually updating their education. Don't be intimidated the first time you go! Many of the women in bootcamp look lean, tone and strong and have the workouts down. But we didn't start that way! Many of the women have been going for a long time. A lot of them have lost 30, 40 or more pounds just in this last year. But there are women of all shapes and sizes. It was hard to make a decision to go to boot camp but when I heard this camp was starting up I decided to give it a try.The price was RIGHT! Brett's camp and all it involves is great. I started initially to lose weight, but found along the way added health benefits, more energy, significantly improved medical tests, less stress and an overall "I can do anything!" feeling. The 5:30 a.m. session works well in my busy schedule with kids, school and work. I really enjoy the weekly hikes/runs on the local Los Gatos trails. Working at your own pace always leaves room to challenge yourself -which is always inspiring! I'm addicted now! We start again next week! Very unprofessional and no loyalty to customers. Typical you're a number and a check mentality. You pay every month but yet you have 14 weeks out of the year where you do not actually work out. You workout for 3-4 weeks and have one week off that you still pay for. You are responsible for carrying your own weight to and from camp so if you plan on getting better with weight you need to get a dolly to carry them to your spot. Bottom line is there are a lot of boot camps out there that treat people with respect and encourage you to lose weight and get healthy without making you feel like you're a number in there books. read more

*****AMAZING!!!!!***** I've been working out on and off for about 15 years and have NEVER experienced a workout like this! This is something you will look forward to, not dread. However, BE PREPARED TO WORK YOUR A$$ OFF!! It's all women, so there is a huge support system around you. Brett, the owner and "drill sergeant" really knows his stuff. He's motivating, but keeps you on your toes! This is, hands down, the best workout there is. I highly recommend any female that is looking to burn some serious calories to give it a try!! This is my third round of bootcamp with Brett and I LOVE everything about this program! Being outdoors, working out with a wonderful group of ladies, and feeling so much better mentally/physically are just a few reasons that make this bootcamp worth the 30 min. commute 4-5 days a week. After falling off the fitness wagon .... I decided some drastic measure was needed to get me motivated and back in shape. Enter Brett and Adventure Boot Camp! This Camp is awesome. Everyday is different and you always leave feeling invigorated and empowered... I also woke up the following day feeling a little sore, but not so much that I could not make it to the camp that day. If you give it a go it's highly recommended that you do the 5 day a week camp the first time around. It will boost your metabolism and also REALLY produce results! At the end of 4 weeks I had lost 6 pounds, 5.5 inches, and 5% body fat! I admit I was hesitant to sign up for this fitness program, mainly because it starts at 5:30AM.... Ouch! In 40-something years of life, there have only been 2 times when I was able to lose weight successfully. First was the torturous South Beach Diet. Second, is my new passion...Almaden Adventure Boot Camp for Women. Yes, it's early (5:30am) but that's part of the attraction. You can get your workout in before the rest of the world even wakes up. It's also perfect for housewives who can go do something great for themselves before the husband leaves for work (if you have kids, this is a great time). It's lots of running, pushups, squats, free weights, intervals and circuits with a myriad of other exercises. The instuctor LIndsay is tough, supportive, knowledgeable and an awesome health/fitness guru to have access to. You even get a free Tshirt each session. But I haven't gotten to the good part yet. Results!! I have personally lost 15 pounds in 3 sessions. Many of my aches and pains are gone. I have muscles now. And I feel like a million bucks. I recommend Almaden Adventure Boot Camp to anyone.
