Had to bargain for a reasonable price and my results were not explained to me. I am a fairly new east coast transplant and smogged my out of state car here for the first time. I got my results and thought they passed because I wasn't told otherwise, but turns out my OBDII wasn't ready. I had to get my car smogged again at another shop and was told my OBD wasn't ready because the battery had recently died and the car needed to be driven a few miles. This smog test location is shady! They quoted me $100 for my six minute smog test! After I told them that is crazy, the price went down to $40. Never come here without an aggressive price in mind. DMV decided that my 2008 Kia needed to have a smog check. And DMV likes to send you the notice about 3 months before payment is due, so you think "oh I have time." Then the notice gets lost under desk junk, and you remember the night before the due date. Most of the time you just hop online and pay. But when DMV says you have to get a smog, you're pretty much screwed. Especially when they make the due date a godforsaken Sunday. So yesterday (godforsaken Sunday), I sit down and accept that I'm going to have to pay the $24 late fee for sending in my registration renewal late, but then I start worrying how long it's going to take to get an appointment to get a Smog check--my hubby and I both work Monday-Friday, regular 8-5 jobs, which is pretty much the same as mechanics' schedules. I need to get this thing in ASAP (so I don't forget again) and Saturday is just too far away. So I turn to the all-knowing internet, and find this place on Google. It's close to my house (moreover, close to the BART station I return to after work) and so I click to check out this place's Yelp reviews. Most people seemed pretty jazzed about it, so I figured I'd give it a try. Oh, the hours helped--most of the other places closed at 5, and I don't roll into the area till about 5:24, so having this place open till 6 and so close to the BART station, relatively speaking, was a major factor in my decision to go there. So I roll in a bit after 5:30, no appointment, thinking I probably won't get as lucky as some of the other Yelpers who reviewed the place, and I'll probably have to come back later in the week with an appointment. Not even. I had barely gotten out of my car, and the guy attending the place waltzed out, clipboard in hand, and got straight down to business. He handed me the clipboard, I handed him the keys, and about 15 minutes later, I was out of there. The guy was friendly--he told me about a special discount they had going on, he was straight with me about pricing from the get-go, and he made sure that I knew that the report had been sent to DMV electronically. It was just a really great experience. I wish more businesses operated like this. This is what it's about. Thanks SL Test Only. Went to this shop based on my mechanic and met Steve the owner on my visit. He was great and immediately took my car in and serviced it. They worked quickly and got me back on the road with no fuss. I appreciated the fast service and polite people there. I had just come from another place and they barely registered that I was alive when I showed up with no hello and then ignoring me. Having realized a day before my registration was due that I needed a smog check first. I quickly called this place and was told to bring my car in with no wait time. He gave me a price for a smog check I could not pass up. When I arrived I received immediate service and was told my car would be completed in 10-15 minutes. It was completed in 5 minutes!
