Imagine our delight on discovering at San Lorenzo's last night that this New York style Italian eatery offers the early bird menu ALL NIGHT on a Wednesday. (And a Sunday too, if you're wondering). We were ravenous after a day at the races and stuffed ourselves with bresaola followed by pasta and meatballs, washed down with a carafe of house red. Everything was hearty and flavoursome and there was a nice buzz about the place (word is clearly out about the Wednesday special!). Oh and the best bit? Yum Yum! Delicious brunch and really great experience ! I had the Pan-fried pulled ham hock potato cakes w/ 2 poached eggs, home fries, watercress, and a mustard drizzled washed down with a delicious Mango Bellini for a fun Saturday morning treat. Very reasonable pricing, great atmosphere, and handy staff. Recommended for a bit of a fancier, more unique brunch with unique options, compared to the more traditional brunch options I was looking for- great to check off the bucket list though! The hype is beginning to happen in Dublin and this New York style italian is one of many of a new breed. The brunch in San Lorenzos is legendary. Some book weeks in advance and others queue for up to an hour on the day in the hope of a cancelled booking. Last week I was one of the latter, chancing my arm by rocking up at 2pm on a Sunday. Peak brunch. Luckily someone had just cancelled and I was shown a table relatively quickly. The staff were great and there's always a good atmosphere about the place. The brunch menu is amazing! I had the crab cakes with poached eggs and hollandaise sauce. The asparagus was char grilled and such a lovely accompaniment. The service was super quick even though they were busy. Tables are only given for 1hr and 15 mins on Saturday's so we were kinda ushered out towards the end while we hadn't finished drinks. I understood. Maybe other customers wouldn't so it isn't the place for a long laidback brunch. It's in and out but perfect if you are hungry and don't mind leaving after a coffee rather than sipping prosecco and having deep and meaningfuls. We came to this restaurant with high hopes due to its great reviews. The waitstaff were very friendly. The goat cheese salad was nice, as was the beef tonata and gambas. The minestrone soup, while heavy on the tomato paste, was also pretty good. Unfortunately it went down hill from there. The pasta with meatballs was really disappointing. The meatballs were dense and the sauce was heavy and brown, almost gravy. The noodle choice was also odd for the dish. The cannelloni al forno were decent, though the choice to put no mozzarella on the top resulted in the cannelloni pasta drying out in the oven. Overall we were disappointed with the mains but, there were a few nice dishes, especially in the appetizers. read more

Friday night in San Lorenzo's was a real pleasure. The starter of gambas, shrimp, were delicious. The striploin steak was tender and cooked add requested, medium rare. Maybe a bit more jus would be nice as it was heavenly. Finished off with the lemon posset that was fresh and not to sharp. Overall yummy eating. read more

No idea why I'd never been here before but Brasserie 66 up the street was booked out, as usual, so we would up here instead and what a pleasant treat it was. Service was friendly to the point of pally with solid recommendations on both wine and food. My other half was there before me and was polishing off what she said was an excellent Cosmo as I sat down. I had a really good seafood chowder to start given the rotten 'summer' weather outside whilst my companion had asparagus. For main, we chose hake and scallops respectively. We were warned on ordering that the scallops would be heavy. Scallops ? Heavy ? But she wasn't kidding. Served in half-shells, a massive serving in a bed of mash, there was easily enough for two. Naturally, I had to help her out after I finished my really excellent hake. This was all accompanied by a wine I'd never heard of - the bill says it was a 'Picpoul' but, whatever it was, it was fruity and sharp and excellent. Bill for two, including a generous tip was €118. I've been to San Lorenzo's for both brunch on a Sunday and dinner on a Sunday night and both were really great experiences. The food was very tasty and fresh and filling, I was so full after each meal. The brunch menu is now different to when I visited but looks just as good. However, the New York Baked Nutella Cheesecake and Pecan Pie are still on the menu and they are both scrumptious. For dinner we tried a mixture of dishes and each one was bursting with flavour and were very decent sized portions, in fact I couldn't finish the venison ragu pasta and there was so much, but this is a very good thing. The gambas were unreal and we wanted another portion as soon as we finished them as they were so juicy and served on a sauce soaked slice of bread, the Breasola salad was perfect and nice and light and the hake was the most perfectly balanced fish dish I have ever had. The side order of mustard mash was devoured it was so good and creamy. The bread and butter pudding looked great but I didn't try it as it was very custard-y and I dislike custard but I had a whopper slice of the New York Baked Nutella Cheesecake and it was perfect served with cream and ice-cream. A really great, strong coffee was the perfect finish to the meal. The total came to just shy of €70. The place looks super inside, decorated really tastefully and warm and the atmosphere is really chilled out. I will be coming back. read more

Well, colour me disappointed. I took a group here for the early bird, which is a very reasonable €25 for three courses. My starter, the buffalo mozzarella, was delicious, really top notch, and earns a star for this place on its own. My main, the cannelloni...meh. The pasta is made fresh and I assume all the other ingredients are top notch but honestly, I couldn't tell the difference between it and cannelloni from any generic Italian spot in town. It was a bit oversalted and personality-free. I've never had two courses where the quality varied so wildly. The manager wasn't particularly nice to deal with either. I'm glad the cost didn't come out of my own pocket. There's just one other restaurant in Dublin that I am actively unenthusiastic about, and I will be avoiding San Lorenzo's from now on as well. read more

This place is perfect in every way. I went with 3 friends for a late Sunday brunch we had to wait a few minutes for a table as it was packed to the rafters but not too long. The service was very prompt and the staff was very relaxed and friendly. The food was delicious and the portions were lovely and big. They aren't cheap but aren't break the bank expensive either. A group of us had an Early Bird recently. We picked this place because of all these stunning reviews on yelp. Well, sorry, that wasn't our experience. The skate wasn't quite as fresh as it ought to be and was a meager , bony offering. The chicken leg main was similarly very low on meat content, albeit tasty and well presented. Having said that, starters, desserts and all the other mains were well received. The staff were friendly and helpful. Conclusion? It was ok, but it certainly didn't merit 4 or 5 stars in my view. There are plenty of other places I'd rather go for my next meal out, and nothing about San Lorenzo's would compel me to return. read more

The food is excellent here. I met three friends tonight for dinner. We went for the Early Bird deal that's served all evening early in the week. We all tried different starters and mains and we liked everything. I had the chowder which was delicious and the gnocchi with spinach and tomato and Parmesan which was good. The homemade choc fudge brownie choc ice cream is delicious. I tried an Aperol drink made with white wine and soda to start and it's my new favourite drink. It was quiet enough to start with but filled up as the evening passed. My only negative comment is that the window seats are very dark when it's dark outside. I had a bit if a headache at the end of the meal and one of my friends said they thought it was my eyes straining in the dark. Funnily enough, once we left And I was sitting in the light, my headache disappeared. All the waiters are knowledgeable and very helpful. I would highly recommend San Lorenzo's. read more

Had a nice brunch here once. However, Christmas Eve seemed to send all staff members into a frenzy. Surely it's similar to a busy Saturday night ? Maybe not. After specifically telling everyone to be there 12 sharp, they kindly left around 20 people in the rain and refused to open the doors until 12.05, shaking their heads and pointing to their watches prior to this. The only menu available was a 3 course meal for 30 euro. Not a huge selection, and nothing too unusual. Nice parfait, average crab and salmon. Both main courses arrived cold and had to be sent back to be reheated. Steak was average and my fish was good. Although not sure how much I wanted a full 3-course meal at 12 midday. Anyways, the staff were apologetic about cold food. I think this place is ridiculously over hyped. read more

The food was within my expectation, and same as the service. I enjoyed to dine at this restaurant. I had recommended to couple people to this place. Amazing amazing amazing! I brought 10 to San Lorenzos for dinner at the end of a team building day and it was the perfect spot. Food was delicious, staff are the perfect balance of attentive without being annoying! Prosecco cocktails, and my lamb chop mains were delicious but the star of the show was my starters of pan-fried gambas! Tried to call ahead of time with no luck. I am from out of town so I had no idea how pretentious this place was but was drawn to it due to their unique brunch offerings. I went in and was ignored for a few minutes making it a bit of an awkward feeling and finally got to speak to someone who told me I should speak to a different person who I guess was the host. He was busy cleaning tables and doing things ideally a host shouldn't be doing. He then proceeded to tell me a table for 2 would be a 50 minute wait which I was completely fine with and said to put our name in. He then told me that wouldn't be possible because they would be closed at that point. There were plenty of open tables making me feel like I wasn't actually welcome as a guest. Might as well just have said were booked up and turned me away in the first place instead of raising false hope. read more

Had the early bird two-course which was great value and ran all night tonight, (January special maybe). I had duck liver for starters and the hake main was substituted for a beautiful cod instead. It was a really delicious and light meal. I really enjoyed it. Very attentive staff and a decent crowd for a Tuesday in the second week of January. We went there last Saturday with some friends. It was packed, extremely, extremely, extremely loud and noisy, with horrible lighting. The waitresses weren't friendly, and the portions were really small for the very expensive prices. The Nutella cheesecake that this other friend got was nice and big, but the tiramisu I got was not amazingly tasty and again very small. We all had bad headaches when we left the place due to the extremely annoying noise. And oh! Tge toilet is unisex (which isn't too odd with Dublin restaurants who have space issues) and you can see the kitchen where you wash your hands! Somehow the toilet is the kitchen's balcony! Will never go there again! There are much nicer places with better food and more reasonable prices and less noise out there. (: read more

Great brunch (of champions) here with a friend recently. It's a lively spot so the music was pumping and the crowd was buzzing. We both had crab cakes and Bloody Marys to drink. Me and a friend of mine were starving and checking out the local Livingsocial deals to get us some good value for money. San Lorenzos popped up with 29€ and get 60€ to spend. We managed to overspend by 7€, as a bottle of wine is 25€ (min). Firstly, its very nicely decorated and was a while since I had been to a proper, nice restaurant. We had full table service and our server, was amazing, she was really attentive but without being annoying and had a good laugh with us. We decided to go for the kinda tapas style dinner, whereby we ordered 4 starters, to try a few things....OMG yum! they aren't massive portions. This is place for good food, nicely presented kinda place. We got the tortellini, which was lush. Also With braised pork belly slices, the chilli prawns and the antipasti plate. All was really great. Definitely recommend here for food - the drink is a bit expensive. But they had 2 and 3 course meal deals which would definitely quench any apetite. read more

Went there for brunch and it was just OK. I was expecting great things given the lines and reviews so I chose this place for an out of town guest. I had the avocado toast and my friend the benedict. Both her poached eggs and mine were cooked completely through which was unfortunate. Avocado toast was a bit bland, avocados were not 100% ripe and without a runny yolk there was nothing to really bring it together /add flavor. Hollandaise for the benedict was not that great, made worse by no yolk with the eggs. I will probably give them another try but not with any special guests in tow. read more
