From the stunning, upscale decor to friendly and knowledgeable service, to (of course) absolutely fresh and fantastic oysters for an amazing price...my only regret is I live almost 3000 miles away and can't go more often! We started with cocktails and a giant tray of oysters (served with all the accompaniments), and ended up loving them so much we ordered a second round. The entire experience was flawless. My only recommendation is to get there early, as there was a line to get in only a few minutes after they opened. St. Roch has been on my Raleigh dining list for a while, and after finally stopping in for happy hour, I can see why it has such a loyal following. We started with 3 dozen Daily Happy Oysters, which at $9 per half dozen. The Southern Salt oysters were incredibly briny. I don't mind a salty oyster, but these crossed into overwhelmingly salty territory and masked some of the nuanced flavors I usually look for. The snacks, however, were absolutely spot on. The Crawfish Hushpuppies arrived piping hot with a crisp exterior and tender center, loaded with crawfish flavor. The Crispy Frog Legs were equally impressive--perfectly fried, wonderfully seasoned with tom yum spice and vadouvan, and paired with a Vietnamese mayo that tied everything together beautifully. To wash it all down, we enjoyed a few beers, including a crisp pilsner, a refreshing wheat beer, and a local IPA that paired nicely with the oysters and fried snacks. Service deserves a special mention. The staff was friendly, attentive, and knowledgeable without being overbearing. They kept the oyster trays moving and made sure drinks never sat empty for long. Made back to St Roch before the end of oyster season and so should you. I got two of each oyster, they were super fresh! And the crawfish hush puppies were incredible. Oysters were fresh and tasty! I have tried other seafood based restaurants in the area and this one is top of the list. Service was excellent! Got greeted by the oyster shucking aficionado behind the bar while walking in and leaving. Waiters yes plural!!! They all were willing to help and take orders and be helpful. I can't say a lot of restaurants have been that customer focus. Over all layout and ambience of the restaurant was nice. The only negative was the part of town the restaurant was in. There was random homeless roaming up and down the street. People yelling and begging for money. I got to my car and a homeless guy was in the middle of a drug deal by my driver door. In town for "bidness" and popped in to St. Roch for happy hour 1/2 priced oysters. I enjoyed three varieties from Washington State, paired with Roch's homemade crackers. For the main course I chose the menu for "Raleigh Restaurant Week." I started with three NC oysters. They were very good. The next course was the "No bullshit" salad. The salad was so fresh (greens come in weekly from a farm in SC) with the champagne vinaigrette and goat cheese (I honestly could have added a protein and stopped there). Let me get straight to the point, St. Roch is terrific! The restaurant interior has a relaxing, classy vibe to it. It had that perfect noise level where it doesn't feel hushed, but it's not so noisy that you can't hear your date across the table. Also our server was both attentive and extremely helpful. She had an air of confidence and knowledge about the menu and could offer up an explanation for whatever questions we had, but also was not overbearing about imparting her knowledge like some waiters can be. "Enough, enough! What about the food?!" The food was TOP notch. We started with an arancini which came as one large shareable portion instead of several pieces to divvy up. It's perfect for a date night. And it was possibly the best arancini I've ever had. It might have been the highlight of the meal for me. We both then followed that up with seafood platters which were also top notch. Easily some of the best seafood I've had in this city. I'm tempted to get the same exact order next time I go, but I really can't wait to try the red beans and rice dish which has andouille sausage in it. I made a reservation for Sunday night for two people with Resy. They do require a credit card and will charge a no show fee of $25 per person. We were seated promptly once arriving. The food and drinks were so good. I got the Harvest mule to drink. I really liked the pumpkin spice and ginger flavors in the drink. We started with the boudin arancini and wow! I didn't expect it to be one giant arancini, but it was delicious. It had a nice kick and was like nothing I've had before. For my main entree, I got the calabash platter with fried shrimp. I don't like fried pickles and they let me get an extra hush puppy instead. The fried shrimp and fries were both great. I liked the aioli with the fries. The one miss for me was the hush puppies. They were kind of dry and didn't have a lot of flavor. Service was fantastic. Our main waitress came around often enough, and other staff came around to clear things/check on things too. The bar was beautiful and was very fun to people watch. Now onto the food, take this review as a single item review rather than a full establishment review. Honestly, I was disappointed in the flavor composition of the crab claws. The menu description says that the dish has "black garlic vinaigrette, scallion, and crispy chili oil". The dish was overcome by the vinaigrette, the claws were swimming in it so much that the flavor of the crab meat was totally lost. Odd that they charge extra for all the fixings like the cocktail sauce, horseradish and mignonette sauce but it was just $0.50 each. Odd but not a deal breaker. Again maybe I had high expectations but the oysters were just mediocre. The saltine crackers that came with it was surprisingly good though. They also didn't have their full drink menu but the bartender was able to make me the "Hurricane." It was good but definitely not need up being stronger that I expected. I mean I have high tolerance and this felt like I had just drank at least 3-4 drinks. Good on a normal relaxing day but I had an early flight to catch so I was chugging water like krazi at the hotel and hoping I don't sleep through my alarm. All in all, I'd probably come again for the happy hour deal. I love St Roch. One of my go to spots for oysters. This time around we tried something new in addition to the oysters. We got the blue crab claws that come in a black garlic vinaigrette and chili oil. It was a flavor explosion. The crab and the garlic vinaigrette in chilli oil complement each other. Next we got the seared scallops that come with a potato pavé. Scallops were seared to a tender perfection. It was my first time trying a potato pavé and i like it. My husband and I stumbled upon St. Roch after a downtown Raleigh event, and it ended up being the perfect late-night bite. We're from Charlotte and weren't familiar with the area, but after walking around the square, we spotted a packed oyster bar a little before 8:30 p.m. and had to check it out. The atmosphere felt lively but welcoming, and the menu drew us in right away. We decided to dine in for a small bite and a cocktail or two--and we're so glad we did. Our server, Dakota, was incredibly warm, knowledgeable, and helpful. He recommended the 'Gator Bolognese, a house-made rigatoni, jerk spice, and burrata for $31. I'd never tried alligator before, and I love pasta, so I was instantly intrigued. We also ordered an Espresso Martini ($16) and, based on Dakota's second rec, the Golden Elixir ($15), a cocktail made with brown butter rye whiskey, honey, bitters, lemon, grapefruit, and egg white. Our drinks and dish came out together, beautifully presented and smelling amazing. The pasta was well-executed: the alligator had a soft, almost beef-like texture with a gentle kick from the jerk spice. The rigatoni was perfectly al dente, and that burrata? Creamy, smooth, and absolutely elevated the dish. Both cocktails were excellent. My espresso martini was rich, balanced, and smooth, one of the better ones I've had in a while. My husband's Golden Elixir was bright and citrusy with a silky egg white foam that gave it a light, tropical vibe. The grapefruit slice on top was a nice visual (and flavorful) touch. For a friend's birthday celebration - they wanted to have brunch in Raleigh. Something that wasn't the normal Briggs experience. This led one of the party members to find this location and make reservations online for Sunday brunch. From my understanding the booking was easy and no complains there. Plus, they shuck them right way here. You don't get those random pieces of shell or muck when you eat raw oysters here. We didn't stick with just the oyster happy hour though, we had to try every type of oysters they had. We frequent the sister restaurant in Wilmington, Olivero, and this definitely was up to that standard.
