Searching for restaurants in Oceanside with decent reviews led me to Sancho's Tacos. Little did I know I was in store for a place with dive bar vibes and funky clown decor instead of a proper sit-down restaurant. The place won me over by the time I was done eating my food, as I noticed the attention to detail that went into all the decor, even noticing paintings on the ceilings. Ordering is done at a retro looking food truck, but food is cooked in a proper kitchen in the back. There's indoor seating, an outdoor patio, and a bar closer to the entrance. I'm not sure if they have proper table service or not, but they were packing everything in to-go containers on a Friday night, but allowing people to dine inside. I tried out a chicken taco & quesadilla. I was not impressed with the chicken taco (2/5) as it came with unmelted cheese and didn't have any sort of distinguishing flavor...definitely not something I'd recommend. However, the chicken quesadilla (4/5) was excellent with fresh ingredients, including flavorful cheese. Of all the drinks in their cooler, a jar of Martinelli's apple juice (4.5/5) jumped out at me, and it was refreshing and delicious (not to mention local to California). The ambiance (4.5/5) won me over by the end of the meal, as I really enjoyed the decor and atmosphere, as it was a departure from a typical dining experience. It's only a few blocks from the ocean and pier, so definitely a decent option for a meal in Oceanside, CA. read more

I always stop here when I'm in Oceanside. Their burritos are solid and the 5150 salsa is absolutely amazing. So sweet but so spicy. And hey you can see the ocean from some of the seats so that's a plus! read more

F O O D Sawed Off Burrito // $10.95 We ordered their breakfast burrito which is available to order all day. It consisted of eggs, breakfast potatoes, cheddar jack and our choice of meat. It was a decent, hearty size and was delicious. My only slight beef with the place is that they charge for salsas. We got the verde and the chubbie sauce. There verde sauce had a nice kick to it but wasn't too spicy for a spice amateur like me. The chubbie sauce name is deceiving because while it looks like a thinner sauce, it has a slightly sweet taste which I thought was very good. While I was waiting I saw other orders come out and everything looked generously portioned and delicious. S E R V I C E it's a very busy place so it was fortunate for me the employees were as friendly and helpful as they were. L O C A T I O N We were on our way home from Carlsbad to Huntington Beach but was craving a breakfast burrito; this was on the way for us. It looks to be located in downtown Oceanside by the beach so we weren't familiar with the place, but I recommend that you be patient because it looked like a lot of street parking. Love the vibe of this spot but the food just doesn't deliver. I really had high hopes based on their overall yelp rating but NOPE. Let's start with the positive things: The service was friendly and super helpful. Our food came out lightning fast on taco Tuesday which was a pleasant surprise. They look like they've got a nice selection of beers, although I wasn't drinking last night so I didn't pay too much attention to that. The decor of the place is funky and fabulous low rider style, we loved it. Here's what I just could not get down with.... As fast as the tacos came out they were cold, which was confusing. They looked really good, I was too hungry to take a photo so we just ate. But the taste was weird. My Carne Asada taco had some kind of strange barbecue sauce on it and the salsa it was sweet. Never had anything like it and didn't particularly care for it. I also ordered a bean and cheese burrito to go to bring to work today and it was just meh. The flounder taco was the best thing but it was quite salty. Way out we did see someone who had something that looks like Carne Asada fries and they looked good as hell... This is a hidden gem next to the beach! The fries are really good and the surf and turf burrito is really delicious and is packing with flavor! It was so big, I was unable to finish half of it! They have so many drinks to offer too and the girls working at the register were so helpful with recommendations! I got a margarita and they made made sure to inform me it was made with tequila wine and to add an extra shot of tequila! Such a good experience here at Sanchos!!! Like other reviews have stated the staff is great, funny, friendly, helpful, on top of things as soon as you walk in. The menu has a lot to choose from so it should appeal to most, but it was little pricey for a taco place ($70 plus tip or so for 2 people to have a taco plate and a beer each) but go there knowing where you are. The overhead in that area I'm sure dictates that they need to charge a little more than a typical "taco place" so I expect this going into places like this and take that into consideration. All the tacos we had were really tasty but the fried fish and grilled fish options were our favorite by far. I wouldn't hesitate to order any one of them again (we also had the asada and pork ones) or to come back here next June when we hit this area again. I fact. I had started out giving this place four stars but I'm upgrading to five. Other than paying a little more I just can't find anything wrong. read more

Yummy tacos, friendly service, good music, and fun vibe! Decor is colorful and artsy and interesting to look at. Tacos are all delicious and come on gluten free corn tortillas. Cali Guey burrito was a hit with the family. Burritos come with a choice of salsa, we got one Chubbie sauce (mild & sweet), as well as the habanero salsa. Both are great! Came here with my husband when visiting Oceanside. I've had a lot of tacos in my life and this place was ... ok. Not the worse but def not the best. We arrived around 11am on a Sunday and we were able to get a table outside easily although it did start to get busy after we left. We tried a bunch of tacos and shared some chips and diff salsas/dips: O.G.: the tri was weirdly sweet, prob the least favorite taco we tried Federale: decent standard carnitas taco Surf & Turf: this was fine, but wasn't memorable Pounders Carnal: probably my favorite one but the fish portion was on the smaller side compared to other similar types of fish tacos I've had in the past. Salsas/dips: actually they're pretty strong here, most of their salsas are pretty good. Our favorite was the verde but our least favorite was the 5150, it was weirdly overly sweet. I've never had a salsa that sweet before. Also we found a rubber band in one of our salsas which def brought our experience down, luckily it was a whole rubber band. We prefer/are used to more simple but well flavored tacos (meat + onions and cilantro + salsa bar), and this place is not that. Overall I think there are better options close by. Would rate closer to 2.5 stars. Pros: food came out quickly Minus 1 star for the tri tip being weirdly sweet, must have been what they marinated the steak in, but def not the flavor we were looking for Minus another star that we found a small rubber band in one of our salsas. It looked like a rubber band that usually holds a bundle of cilantro. We told one of the servers and she was like, omg Minus half a star for the price/value. I did not think my fish taco was worth almost $7, also wish there was a better way to try all their salsas before committing to a being charged for a large side of it that we might not like, especially for first timers. read more

I tried their chicken bfast burrito. The burritos are huge!! You can definitely share one with someone. The burrito is stuffed with yummy goodness! The chicken is very flavorful, as is the rice, and the eggs. Everything was delicious! The salsa is too spicy for me but I didn't even need it. If you are in Oceanside try them out! So we've been coming back a few times during this trip and have absolutely loved Sancho's!! The Flounder Pounder tacos are the best fish tacos I've ever had and I'm not necessarily a big fish taco guy (normally more of an al pastor or carnitas, carne asada kinda guy), but these are just amazing! Fresh, warm, perfect tortilla and toppings/sauce; it's really fish taco perfection!! Also really love the atmosphere and location. Service was friendly and prompt. We also enjoyed the flavorful pico de gallo tonight and the OG margarita and Mami Chula marg. Definitely recommend this spot and we will be back on future trips!! read more

We are always on the lookout for places where vegans and vegetarians can eat, and this place more than fits the bill! I had a great taco, ordered two of the Flaco Tacos - delicious and totally filling. Probably the best tacos I've ever had. Avocados, mushrooms, salsa verde. I have GOT to try to make this at home. I don't even know what my boyfriend ordered, but he said it was great and he would definitely order it again. Some kind of huge nachos. We loved the decor, so colorful, just makes you happy to be there. Service was excellent, staff was cool. The meat didn't taste fresh and we came early in the day too. 5 tacos, 1 quesadilla, and 1 burrito was $60. Also, they only have pepper jack and cheddar for the cheese options. The line does usually seem longer and slower than other locations, but it's worth the wait. I love getting basically any of the tacos! Got take out from here for dinner one night, between the family we had steak nachos, fish tacos, and a chicken quesadilla. I picked up our to go order and the restaurant has a unique vibe. It's got dark mood lighting, some tables have couch style seating like a lounge, and you order out of a van that's inside the building! Our food was good overall. I really enjoyed my steak nachos, they were tasty with a good amount of meat and a good sized portion. My kiddo enjoyed the quesadilla, but the fish tacos were so-so in our opinion. Came here for a last minute dinner date at sunset! I ordered Skrimps and Carnitas tacos while my boyfriend ordered the Surf and Turf burrito with the 5150 salsa (sweet & spicy). We also got a side of chips with the chipotle salsa. The tacos were very good, and the sauce drizzled on top had a lot of flavor. I particularly liked the carnitas taco since it was very moist and flavorful. My main complaint is that each taco was around $5.00, and they were only the size of a regular street taco. My boyfriend really enjoyed his Surf and Turf burrito which had tri-tip and shrimp. He thought the tri-tip was just as good, if not better, than Cardiff crack (which is definitely saying something!) I tried his 5150 salsa which tasted of sweet pineapple with a spicy kick at the end! In general, the food was pretty good but a bit pricy considering the overall size. The restaurant has a clown x surfer dude x graffiti theme going on. It definitely fit the beachside vibe, but I wish it were a bit cleaner. The bathroom had a weird smell, and I avoided sitting at the grimy clown-themed booths inside. However, the outside patio was very nice especially with the sunset and nice weather! There's also free two hour parking right outside the restaurant, and we were lucky enough to snag a spot right after turning in! Another huge plus is the restaurant's proximity to the beach! Sancho's in Oceanside is your typical beach restaurant with open air seating and outside seating. This is a bar atmosphere and you have to order food and drinks before finding a table to sit. The hostess/waitress was very friendly and happy to help us navigate the menu. Our table ordered Caliguey burrito, steak nachos, Not Cho Fries and Pounders Carnal tacos. The food came out fast and was delicious. It is a loud atmosphere and even though you can take children in, I wouldn't call it family friendly. There is a kids menu with a few items. Overall we enjoyed eating here. The 4 stars is because of noise and limited menu. read more
