Rachel's has been a Fire Island staple for 25 years and it shows. We usually try to do at least one night for dinner here whenever we're out in the Island. What started out as a bakery has now morphed into a delicious Italian restaurant. It still has the bakery side but definitely come for dinner. Wealth order the pork chop Milanese. The portions here are huge so sharing is recommended. The penne a la vodka was good. I will say the lobster fettuccine was overly lemony but that was the only issue. The service was great and funny. Went to Rachel's last weekend for the first time, just a few days before they closed for the season. The space felt so warm and inviting. We were catching a ferry in 10 minutes so grabbed a quick pastry from the counter. It was a marshmallow s'mores brownie and wow... even though I figured it was good, it was actually so much better than I could have anticipated! I love how gooey it was in each bite and how filling this little snack was. Good thing I just got one as I could have scarfed down at least 3 in a row. First time exploring fire island over the weekend (Sunday). Wish I came here during the summer time because it was a bit chilly. A lot of places were closed, Rachel's was one of the few that remained opened. I was on my way to catch the ferry so I didn't have much time sit and eat. I quickly grabbed a s'more brownie to go. Cashier at the bakery side was very nice and welcoming. My brownie did not make it to the ferry. It was devoured on my walk! lol such a good treat. I see there is a notice it is closed until 2026. We go to Fire Island every summer for a long weekend, and Rachel's the place we all go for breakfast. They have the most amazing choices, and the service is awesome! There are 8 of us and sometimes we all go together or just a couple of us, and no matter how big or small our party is, the service is always excellent. They also have great cocktails and the best Bloody Mary's to get you started again on your day! The atmosphere is very cool looking and interesting too. The staff is so welcoming, and even though they don't rush you, they get you in and are ready for the next rush of people waiting outside. Do try the bran pancakes with fresh fruit mixed inside. They were fluffy and tender, and they are the most popular brunch menu item, according to my waitress Angela. I had them with blueberries inside and real maple syrup on top. Sunday Brunch was not complete without a Bloody Mary. Mine was thick and flavorful and had a moderate amount of heat. My orders came out within 10 minutes even though there were about 20 people in the restaurant. Angela provided stellar service, too. Best place in Ocean Beach for coffee. We got an iced latte here every day. Says it opens at 8 am during the week, but if you stop by, they may even be open at 7:30 am or earlier. We also got calamari to share which was pretty good, light and not weighed down or greasy. The salad could have been a little better and I think the thin pasta noodles was maybe a bad pairing for the salmon, would have preferred a linguini. The short: this is probably the best spot for sit-down breakfast in the area! The longer: this place is always swamped in the morning for good reason... they have great iced coffee, a crumb cake that's seriously unreal, and will custom make any breakfast sandwich. We've had many-a hungover mornings on Fire Island eating egg white wraps (with a side of chocolate drizzled crumb cake) from Rachel's. Most recently, I went with friends for breakfast. I got the light omelette (egg whites, mushroom, spinach & onion) with a side fruit and biscuit. I paid a little more for the fruit, but it was worth it. If you're not watching calories, though, go for the potatoes. They're perfectly seasoned and crispy. Skip the biscuit. My friends all got bagel sandwiches and were VERY happy. Holy crumb cake this was some SERIOUS crumb cake. Probably the best I've had. But at 6 dollars for one piece I guess it better be. The cake is buttery and moist and the crumb topping is perfection. This cake is about 75% crumb so you get plenty in every bite. They have plain and a few other varieties with chocolate chips and powdered sugar. The plain is so sweet and flavorful that toppings aren't even needed. If you aren't feeling an indulgent slice of crumb cake, they also have a variety of other grab and go pastries available at the counter. The thin and crispy chocolate chip cookies looked heavenly. There is also coffee, but similar to the crumb cake it comes at a high price tag. An iced cold brew is 6 dollars and an iced coffee is 4. We initially thought they were charging us for two but nope, just Fire Island pricing for ya. In any case, after the sticker shock this is a great option for a fast and tasty breakfast on Fire Island. The coffee is strong and the crumb cake is most likely going to be better than any crumb cake that you've tried before. read more

Craved a little sweet and stopped by since they looked (*key word) good. Had a smores 'brownie', and a chocolate dipped coconut macaroon. Firstly, putting a smores brownie in wax paper and throwing it in a paper bag, probably not the best 'to go' packaging I've seen. After we scraped marshmallow and pieced the 'brownie' back together ourselves we learned that there may have been some creative mesures taken in the name, it was crumbly, and not at all fudgy, yummy or chocolatey like you hope a brownie will be. The macaroon was alright Why did we continue eating it you ask? Because we paid 10 bucks for 2, yes TWO items. Our trip over to Fire Island for the day began with lunch at Rachel's. We have never been here before to eat and thought it looked like a nice spot to relax. The inside is big and airy. The decor is farmhouse style with these beautiful big wheel fans on the ceiling. We were 7 people including kids and they sat us at a long bench table by the large windows. We ordered nachos to start which were very tasty and colorful with the different color chips. I had the lobster roll which was very good. It had a little bit of mayo and dill. It came with fries which were crispy and hot. I also had a side salad with a vinaigrette. The others had the blacked mahi sandwich and the fried chicken sandwich.
