For my first Fire Island experience (I know, shame on me as a LIer), Flynn's definitely made it a memorable one. Just a short walk from the dock and you'll find yourself in a place that from the outside looks like your dad's favorite nautical themed dive bar - but Flynn's is a whole lot more than meets the eye. Tons of bar space to order all the Fire Island classics from, especially a rocket fuel which will knock you on your butt if you aren't careful because they hardly taste like they have any booze in it. Great music selection and plenty of room to dance. One thing to be warned though, the place is cash only. They do have ATMs right near the entrance, but bring as much cash with you as you can. read more

I had the time of my life at this place. Right on the water, $5 cover charge, great 90s and 2000s music. The people were friendly and fun. You can party all day and all night on a Sunday and probably even crazier on Saturdays. Several bars so you're not waiting for a drink. Lots of shaded areas. We left three quarters of it on the plate as it was not even worth taking home. All the time I was there, I was looking for John Tapper to come out of the kitchen. I'd prefer to give 3.5 stars but that's not a thing on Yelp! Have been here quite a few times for events but this was the 2nd time I've sat down to eat. We came on their busiest day of the season -- the Sunday of Memorial Day Weekend. Service was good and attentive. Food and drinks came out in a timely manner. The only negatives -- couldn't make alternate changes to the menu based on how busy the kitchen was, and there was a BIG chicken bone found in the quesadilla. Views are always a 10/10 being on the water. They have outdoor (with umbrellas) and indoor seating options. Have had their Margherita pizza pie in the past and was also delicious. What a great day we had at Flynn's in Fire Island. The manager, Time Flynn was so kind to us as we celebrated my parents on Grandparents Day. He made sure everything was perfect in every single way. This food was aweful. Baked clams tasted like they had gasoline not even clams in tin foil. The shrimps were definitely farm raised frozen and salty. The lobster dried out. Let me start off by saying you have to buy a $30 ticket before going in to the bar thats non refundable. i got the ticket because it was my friends bday celebration. I get there after traveling to LI and took a ferry to be told I can't enter because the bouncer thought my drivers license was fake . I'm 24 and graduated with a Masters in business . When I told him I can prove to him I'm 24 and have a picture of my passport ; he already had in his head to not listen or be kind saying I told you No! Then he said I was lucky to get my ID back. I'd like to give the attentive servers 5 stars but the food gets 0 stars. This has been our once-each-summer-event gathering a large group of friends for the ferry & Flynn's lobster. It was disappointing when the "all you can eat lobster" ended a few years ago but we returned anyway. This year the food was simply awful... corn on the cob mushy, clams chewy and over seasoned, lobster dried out and flavorless, coffee cold. Sold 4 for what it is. Went here other night with large group and had enjoyable meal with great views and sunset. The seafood was enjoyable and properly cooked. I had a burger that was very good. Service was good. Just a note, they do run a tour boat special with a boat called the Moonchaser leaving out of captree. That seems like it could be alot of fun. The Moonchaser includes a lobster buffet. The boat arrived when we were eating and the staff did a good job handling the sudden surge. I recommend an i will return. We previewed their website before taking the water taxi to get here. The menu on their website is completely different than what they're serving now. Came here with a group of women for the boat ride and dinner. Overall it was a nice experience. I thought the buffet was reasonably priced. If I remember correctly it's 48 or 49 for all you can eat corn, clam dip, rice, chicken francese, fish, ribs, prime rib, and shrimp cocktail. Then you get one lobster ticket so that you hand in the ticket when you get your lobster. That's a nice deal for sure. It didn't come with drinks but you also got coffee or tea at the end of the meal with a slice of ice cream cake. Worth four stars for sure. I loved the clam dip! Delicious. Lobster was delicious but it was a small lobster. Not that I'm surprised by this at all. But small means a lot of work for not a lot of gain. Oh well. The restaurant is very nice. Spacious. I didn't feel like I was on top of other people. We were inside as opposed to being close to the water. But it was still nice. I didn't care for the live music. Pros: Great views and fast service (we went on Sunday of Labour Day Weekend). The spinach and artichoke dip was great. Cons: Scallops were okay. My friend got an upset stomach later in the evening due to the food. The vibe was very trashy/fratty. It is really really loud inside. The bathroom was disgusting. For some reason, there was a bouncer in the front (which was weird coz this is a restaurant), however there were also families with kids inside. I'd probably avoid this place next time. read more

Absolutely terrible from beginning to end. I just need to get this review out the way so I never have to think about this place again. 0 STARS. JUST DON'T DO IT! We got a recommendation from a boat club to leave our boat at Flynns. They told us we would pay "x" amount to leave our boat there for the day and then get a $50 credit for food. We pull up to a lot of obnoxious things going on (political flags, drunkenness, you know the deal..). The staff member that helped us out was pretty professional and nice (the only person I can say that about in the entire establishment). However, we were then charged about "x*2". I'm not sure if we were quoted less originally by mistake by the boat club...but more likely Flynns just overcharged us based off the rest of our experience. Either way, Flynns you suck! So we spend the day elsewhere and decide to come back and use our $50 credit. We arrive to bouncers telling us there is now a cover charge to get in. The bouncer tells us "only the person who came on the boat has a waived fee and the rest of you who took the ferry have to pay". Sir, we all came on the boat. Then the young girls who were actually taking the money, "well 2 out of your group will have the cover charge waived". The people who I was with didn't feel like arguing the ridiculousness of all this so we paid. At least get your story straight when you are trying to scam people. So we are finally seated. Drunk young people are dancing about- wouldn't normally hate this....but I am mad I am paying to be a part of it when I just wanted to have dinner. Service was iffy at best. The food was terrible. Burgers were WELL WELL done when we ordered them medium. If I am paying $25 for a burger at least cook it properly...at the VERY LEAST. Gluten free poke bowl had wantons on top...hmmm...not so gluten free. At this point, I'm livid. I pretty much never get mad at places- and if I do, I never say anything. I tell our waitress first about all the shitty food. She then points me in the direction of someone, maybe he was the manager?? I really hope he wasn't because he was absolutely terrible as well. After explaining the situation to him. He goes, "so what do you want me to do about it?". It was like talking to a wall. At this point, you would think he would offer up some solutions...nope, too much brain power would be needed for that apparently--not like this is your job or anything. Eventually, he goes..."oh I guess we'll take the burger off the bill". As things continued to go wrong...I complained again. He basically said "I'll talk to you in a minute"-basically dismissing me- rudely. He finally comes to our table and takes off the 3 really horrible meals and our bill was still ridiculous for what we got. The taco dip was a pile of lettuce with a few beans, a heap of sour cream and a little guacamole. Just terrible terrible terrible all around. NEVER again. NEVER EVER AGAIN. This was my first (and last) visit to Flynn's where customer service is almost non-existent. In reading other reviews, I see my experience wasn't unique, and it looks like their focus is on the summer party crowd who aren't likely to check reviews before going. The food was decent (that's why there are two stars instead of one), service was slow, bathroom was dirty, and a legitimate complaint about the size and location of our table (reserved weeks in advance for a party of five) was initially treated very disrespectfully by both waitstaff and the manager. In addition, there was a company party going on with a focus on the buffet rather than table service, so was like dining in an overpriced college cafeteria. read more

This place is kind of insane. It's really only good for a big group of friends ready to day drink their livers away. The views here are everything. If you come for one thing (other than getting wasted), come for the views. Watching the sun set on the water while sitting at an outdoor bar is really nice. The place is huge. Like everything else on Fire Island, Flynn's is pricey. Cover is $20. And CASH ONLY, even at the bar. There's an ATM but the fee is $4 (ridiculous) so definitely come prepared. Drinks are expensive too, but it's a cost that you pay for the experience. On the Sunday I was there (Labor Day weekend) people were lined up from like 11am to pay the cover and get stamped for the day to avoid the line later on in the afternoon. You'll find all types of people here - girls in bikini tops/denim shorts with flip flops (my friends and I thought this was more appropriate for the setting). But then you'll also see skin tight dresses and heels. Something for everyone I guess. I can't really speak for the food because we did not sit down for a meal BUT they do have a grill in the front, selling hot dogs and hamburgers. I don't know if this is a regular thing or they had it for LDW but it's the kind of bbq you'd see at a frat house. Pretty good and exactly what you'd expect. I probably ate 5 hamburgers/hot dogs throughout the day. Nothing fancy, but got the job done and I was pleased. Overall, we had a great day. Fire Island is lovely in general. In my day.... sums it all up. The space is nice - large and has great garage-style windows but frequently you are sat outside on plastic chairs, and served in plastic cups and the whole illusion that this is Flynn's of the old days is gone. The bar, as a bar, is nuts - overcrowded with the youth, binge drinking and having fun. But the food is my main concern, as I'd never come here for a drink. The food used to be great - even up until 2019 - when it was much less delicious than Flynn's of the 80s and 90s. But lately it's been terrible. We had the margarita pizza on senior's buffet night (which frankly looked better than what we had). It was soggy and off. This makes me sad to write and I hope they can step it up. With all the money they make on alcohol you would think they could afford great produce, and cooks. I hope it improves for 2023! read more

Short ribs tasted microwaved, was semi-cold and coated with a sauce that doesn't go with whatever sauce it was marinated in. I felt like throwing up all things that I forced down simply because I was starving. I regretted putting the Flynn's rubbish in my mouth. Service: we seven people only got five sets of silverware (?!) and after asking for more still nobody gave the missing plates. Let's start off with the positives, the location and views make this a great spot. It's a really large place with an outside patio and a separate dining area. The hostess was super cute and very nice and our server was amazing. It was pretty early so we were one of the few tables getting food, that should have been a clue. Looking at the menu, everything seemed to be way overpriced. I tried to ignore the bad reviews since I was hungry and wanted to remain optimistic. After taking to our server, I went with the lobster roll with butter. The rest of the group ordered the Jumbo shrimp cocktail, burger, salad and some pasta dish. The so called jumbo shrimp cocktail was really bad, it consisted of 5 shrimp that smelled not very fresh and tasted beyond rubbery. If you're charging $18 for 5 shrimp at least make it fresh. It even came with some cheap saltine crackers to make the presentation even more supermarket like. The burger was overcooked, the chicken was bland. My lobster roll was good, the however the fries were reheated and stale tasting. We also tried the flintini which is their signature drink, this was actually delicious! If you come here make sure you eat beforehand. It's really too bad that the food here sucks because the employees were really great and the view is beautiful. read more

I am writing this review based on marina services. We arrived on a fairly windy day with our 2 kids by boat. Austin greeted us with a warm welcome, hopped aboard and made us feel at ease getting our lines tied off. A short time later we were advised that the breeze was going to pick up and we would be more comfortable in a different slip. We moved the boat to a better slip for upcoming weather and retied the lines, which is no easy feat... we were then met by another very helpful manager named Luke. Luke further advised and helped with securing the boat. He then brought and us and installed a ladder so we could safely get on and off the boat with the kids (ages 4&6). I can't say enough good things about the dock staff and Luke at Flynn's. Bravo gentlemen and thank you VERY much for your added effort. read more

I had brunch here Fourth of July weekend here for the first time. We were a very large group of abt 12 so we were seated at a round table. I loved the views of the marina from our table. Very picturesque. We ordered champagne mimosas which were served in a wine glass. The "brunch" menu which was a sheet of paper that once wet stuck to our tablecloth was a bit cheesy. I think it would be a nice to have had eggs Benedict or some brunch staples on the menu. The dinner menu looked like there were more varied options. I felt like our server did a great job, however we all felt like it took a long time to be served with our food. I loved the salad I ordered which was grilled octopus on a bed of lettuce. The combination of the capers, olives, and pesto sauce was very tasty. We ordered a bottle of Pinot Grigio for our table. It was nicely presented in a wine cooler with glasses. The experience was amazing. Taking the moonchaser boat to the Resturant and watching the sunset was a huge highlight. But the food was just... okay. We went for the Thursday buffet. The waitress we had acted as if we were bothering her, the bathroom had paper towels ALLLLL OVER THE FLOOR!, (this is the fault of Resturant guests being careless however they need to have staff make sure it's presentable) As for the food: I have had much better lobster before, the table bread was stale, (5 s to the sweet butter that made it all better). Also I'm pretty sure I'm being petty but food presentation means everything to me and they gave us the lobster on paper plates ......... I probably would go again just for the boat trip, watching the sunset and maybe getting appetizers then to walk around fire island, but not spending $$$ on just an ehh buffet. The buffet had: Lobster, corn, bow tie pasta, baked clam, flounder, chicken, shrimp cocktail, plus they gave us a fruit cup and small salad bowl (in a paper bowl ) they also had a cutting board with roasted meat dessert was really good! a piece of chocolate cake with ice cream in the middle but it was melted by the time it got to us . Good times. Too crowded on a holiday weekend. But tell me what place isn't! Bouncers try to keep the crowds in order at the line but there is always a clown or two or three... Should have more bar tenders. Bring cash, no credit cards accepted. Rocket fuel is the drink everyone talks about. Some sort of Pina colada and rum I'm guessing. But way too much sugar for me. I went with a long island ice tea. One thing if your going to drink be ready for the long long long bathroom line. Good music. Fun for a group of friends to have a night out! Took my wife to Flynn's the Sunday of Labor Day weekend for dinner. Took the 6:10 ferry out of Bay Shore for an 8:00 reservation. Arrived on Fire Island and took a nice walk to the beach. Lots of partying going on including a very noisy Flynn's. Got to Flynn's and was seated by a bus boy. No noticeable hostess table visible. We sat in the back of the restaurant facing the marina where the atmosphere was a little calmer than the night club area. We faced the sunset which was a spectacular view! (1 star.) A waitress came over and asked us if we wanted something to drink. Turns out she was the "cocktail waitress." She was also glossy eyed and visibly intoxicated. -3 stars. Had I come across a manager I would told him about this young lady. No manager available, -1 star. Now time for food. Our food waitress was very attentive +1 star. My wife had the New England Clam chowder and I had the lobster bisque to start. Since the soups were both fair to midland we decided not to go for the seafood and instead opted for what we thought would be "safe bar food" since that's what this meal was turning into. We both ordered burgers, hers medium, mine well. As the waitress came with the burgers about 5 minutes later( I thought that was kinda quick) the "moos" we're still coming from the plates. Too rare for our taste. Now discusted with the food the waitress came back to see how everything was, we decided against sending it back instead opting to catch the ferry that was leaving in 20 minutes.
