I purchased the 90 min deep tissue couples massage for my girlfriends bday. We were visiting from Miami, so I relied heavily on yelp reviews. The reviews were so good that i was somewhat skeptical, buy Sand Spa delivers. Gretchen was super accommodating and Robin gave me the best massage of my life. WORST EXPERIENCE OF MY LIFE! My boyfriend and I are in town on business trip for his work. I found this Spa on Yelp and had good reviews! We are big fans of couple massages from back home so I figured I would surprised him with in between workdays. We were scheduled for 60 min couples massage- one male and one female masseuse. I had the male and my boyfriend had the female. The atmosphere wasn't the best to begin with- right next to the road which meant consistently hearing traffic drive by, the room itself was rather chilly and therefore not so relaxing. Also we were easily able to hear everything that went on at the front desk Initially, my masseuse didn't begin to ask whether I wanted a deep tissue or Swedish massage. As he began, it was so intense that it actually hurt me. He never asked me how the pressure was only noticed by my grimacing face. I requested it to be less firm but he never actually was. He told me "you need to relax, relax." Being very rough with putting my arms back along with the sheets. I felt like I was making him very angry." Then I heard his phone vibrating right next to my ear. The entire massage I kept thinking "this is hurting so bad and I can't wait for it to be over with." Towards the end, he said "you need to keep your shoulders back if you want me to work them. You are pushing against me!" Truthfully I never could relax as the entire massage hurt. I stopped the massage early and he stormed out of the room. Although my boyfriends massage was too stopped early because of this, he did enjoy his massage with his masseuse. However, Gretchen, the owner of the Spa, did comp the massage and said she would speak to this masseuse personally to address the problem. Knots beware: This is my first time so my back had quite a few knots, Robin did an outstanding job rubbing them out. Clean and efficient for limited space they have. Cons: Parking, recommend getting there a little early so you can find parking. There is a parking structure a few blocks away. Note: this is not the business fault just the location. read more

Sand Spa is my go to place for all things relaxing. The staff is lovely, managers at the front desk are always welcoming. Last week I received a facial and deep tissue massage, both were incredible and started on time. My masseuse made sure I was comfortable and working on the requested areas throughout the entire time. You can tell that Sand Spa is run with intentional relationships and care. I would highly recommend any of their services, just make sure you make an appointment ahead of time because they are busy. The room tempatures were perfect, the beds in the rooms where unbelievably comfortable, and the staff was super friendly. The girl at the front desk was inviting and she knew her services. This is tough review to write because I have had one of my hands down, top 3 massages of my life at Sand Spa and I have one of my worst massages at Sand Spa. This was all driven by who your masseuse is and his/her massage style. Unlike other spas, you can not request your masseuse and are assigned one when you show up. Which is not a bad idea, but it would be nice to request someone who has given you a great massage in the past; that would easily have me coming back. The location and the place itself is great and always been accommodating and very nice. The receptionist and staff are always very friendly and attentive. If you do not live in the area, parking can be a little of a pain, but arrive early so you can find a parking spot. read more

Great local spa! Went here yesterday for a couples massage for Valentine's Day. We both had a wonderful massage and the I had literally the best scalp massage ever from a therapist whose name starts with a D. I want to say it's Dion or Dayonah but I know that's wrong. Anyway, for the price-- it's actually a pretty fair service. We didn't get a chance to go in the back to see whether they had a steam room or jacuzzi (we were running late), but from what I could tell this is more of a no frills place. I tend to prefer going to a full service luxury spa like the Four Seasons or Terrenea, but this would be a good substitute for a place like Massage Envy or Just Massage studio. Quality of service was excellent -- the only knock was that the bottom of our feet weren't wiped down after the massage, leaving us a little oily. Would recommend it to a friend or go back, if I didn't want to make a day of a spa visit. read more

Megan and Gretchen continue to amaze me! This is my go-to spot in the South Bay. As an athlete who is constantly in need of muscle repair, I try to book an appointment every couple weeks. Though they are quite popular around Manhattan and Hermosa for their phenomenal customer service and beachside locations, I am always able to find appointments with my favorite massage therapists. Not sure if I want a Swedish or a deep tissue? No problem! A short discussion problem areas gives them enough guidance to deliver the perfect customized massage. I could go on and on about how convenient, affordable, clean, and kind everyone is at both Sand Spa locations, but I must speak on their professionalism and genuine concern for their customers first and foremost. With an overwhelmingly busy schedule, it is hard to find a free chunk of time to relax. While it is very easy to book online, I occasionally find myself dialing a panicked phone call to the spa. Time after time, Megan and Gretch have been super accommodating and pleasant with a genuine interest in finding the best appointment for me. Sand Spa is all about customer service and making sure their clients leave happy and healthy! Thanks, ladies! P.S. Just had a massage and a facial here, and both were fabulous. I HIGHLY recommend Candice for a facial. She took the time to address my concerns about what was right for me, and really did a fabulous job. I left feeling incredibly relaxed, and when I looked in the mirror, was blown away by how thorough she was! My skin hasn't looked this good in a very very long time. She was easy to talk to, and didn't mind the silence either! I did the European Facial, and it was perfect. Relaxing, with a little massage on my neck and arms. She did extractions, leaving me with perfectly flawless skin that was exfoliated, and rejuvenated. Thank you, Candice! I had a 90 minute deep tissue massage by Landon. I don't usually feel that comfortable getting a massage by a man, but I forgot to ask for a female masseuse, and have to say I was pleasantly surprised!
