I am not a gamer, however I have got to tell you, this was so much FUN,!!! Besides slaying dragons I had my workout for the day as well! Hidden in an arm of the Hillsdale Mall, this is a cool and terrific place for you to go with friends or family and experience virtual reality at its best! We fought dragons, skeletons and spiders! I was a warrior woman and I loved it! The Sandbox VR team welcomed us with great instructions and care. Do you want a fun night out? You've got to go to Sandbox VR located in the Hillsdale Mall in San Mateo. Epic!!

Had seen an Ad online and we wanted to play. Drove up from the central coast to celebrate a friend's bachelors party. There was three of us, we had a great time! Playing, so realistic. At the end we were drenched in sweat, totally worth the money and the drive to play.

Very fun experience playing the zombie shooting game! It was my first time and I would come back to play the other games with my friends. The staff were very nice and the process to gear up was also super easy. I also like how they consistently launch new games so there are reasons to come back compared to maybe an escape room which are kind of one and done.

been wanting to go to a sandbox game for a while. i was able to go with friends today. Experience was a 10/10. felt like i was fully involved in the game (squid game). my left wrist sensor came off in the middle of the game. brandon was able to fix it fast. s/o to the friendly staffs: nick and brandon for a smooth check-in and the help for this entertaining game. will be back with more friends for sure. HIGHLY recommend this place

A holiday tradition for our family!

Sandbox VR has become our family's, holiday tradition! They have upgraded the headsets and other equipment so it's less bulky than our previous times here. The visual experience, Sound experience is much better with the upgraded equipment! This year we played the Squid Games! There's an extra fee per-person that goes to Netflix for usage rights. The Squid Games option is a very different experience than the other "shoot 'em up" games here. Be ready to have a team name, pick your unique character look, and there is a dance off at the end of the game that gets recorded in your video. Your session will be recorded and the editors there are super quick with creating a memory video, a link will be emailed to you shortly after finishing the game. Every game is special, I recommend them all! Go with a fun group of friends or family for some special bonding time!

Bonded with my coworkers last night with a little Teambuilding exercise! it was our first time doing a zombie survival VR Experience and it WAS SO FUN! I waited my whole life to do something like this, and it lived up to all of the hype. We kept yelling "CONTACT! ON YOUR SIX! THEY'RE COMING OUT OF THE WALLS!" Definitely would recommend this to friends. I will surely bringing them here. The full experience from putting the VR head gear on and seeing your avatar definitely gave us Ready Player one vibes. I love zombie pop culture so it was only right to try this.

We came to sandbox for our christmas party, and it was really fun. The process was easy, I had to reserve a couple days ahead, I think they book fast. This was on a Thursday afternoon. The max people for a game was 6 people. We opted for the Deadwood Valley. It takes about 15 mins to check in. You start out with checking in out front, and then they let you sit down and instruct you regarding the wrist and ankle sensors you have to put on. We had options with our weapons. I think we only encountered, one pause because one of our friends had a sensor off on her weapon. The vest wasn't too heavy but it definitely gets hot after you run around and shoot zombies. The graphics felt like it could be better but it felt very real once everything got dark. One issue I encountered btw, was one of my headphone pieces coming off. They had to replace it but luckily the game hasn't started. Other than that, everything was great. It's really cool and amazing to have these kind of experiences. I highly recommend it. It's located in between Swarovski and Pandora. Parking at hillsdale is plentiful but make sure to come early because they only have a 5-minute grace period. Prices ranged from $50-60. For 6 people we paid $330, and the game lasted for about 45 mins. What we missed out on is that we didn't know we could record ourselves in the room. They give you a video after your game but it's just highlights. 10/10 Sandbox!

Ask the Community - Sandbox VR

What is the youngest age that can play? Squid game for example, can a 6 year old play?

I would recommend it for 8 and up, due to the mask size. But you can call and ask.

    Length of session?

The game itself is about 30 minutes, but you spend about 20-30 minutes gearing up. So total time there is about an hour.

Can people outside see you in your vr room? And if we have 5 ppl in our party will you add an extra person or can it be private just to those 5?

You are in a room with just your group and one operator (staff member). There is a doorway but no actual door, so technically yes, people walking down the hallway can see you. However, it's not like the general public can see you. These are other… Read more

I wear glasses. They're a very strong prescription, they don't seem to be allowed and I don't have contacts to wear either. How do I know if the corrective lenses are right for me?

    How much are the tickets?

It was $48 when I went in January.

How much does this cost per person? How long is each experience?

On the website it says $48 per person and it generally lasts about 1 hour and 15 minutes, 15 minutes of training and setup, about 30 minutes in VR.

How long does the game experience last?

~20-30 minutes. It's possible to fail the game mission which would cut your time a little, but it seems like you get several "lives?" My shortest time was still over 20 minutes even without completing the mission.

How many people is the minimum can go?

I did Amber Sky and for that one I wouldn't do more than four people. Even with three it was limited space and we hit each other with our weapons a couple of times. Luckily we wore enough gear to cushion the blows. We traveled on an "elevator"… Read more

How much is it per person can't seem to find pricing?

$48 exactly when I went a few weeks ago. They have you pay a deposit when you book online. Price of one person I think my friend told me?

Can a sift certificate be purchased?

    Yep!

I get dizzy when I watch movies in 3D. Is this going to make me dizzy too? Will one game better than the other in regards to being nauseous?

The effect of VR is very different from a 3D film. Our VR experiences have been thoroughly vetted and tested to reach a standard that we believe eliminates most cases of motion sickness and nausea (cases of motion sickness are very rare).

My brother purchased this experience to do with my 8 year old son (his nephew) and a few of my sons friends, are kids allowed? I found height requirements that are good but nothing about age.

Yes, it's more about their maturity level. I would avoid the zombie experience, my boys did the pirate one and it was really fun and fine for an 8 year old is ok with a bit of PG scary action.

We have booked online but we have more friends coming with us. Is that ok to purchase additional tickets at the entrance? Also one of our friend can not come, so can we have another one to replace her spot?

You can as long as you have a max of 6. Yes, you can replace your friend's spot, will just need to sign a new waiver.

Are you in Hillsdale Mall? Where are you located exactly? Thanks.

Good Morning Ann, We are located inside the Hillsdale Shopping Center towards the back of the mall… Read more

They run multiple parties at the same time and you rotate hourly between the gym, food, and arcade. Gym: Nice play structure with a small area for younger kids. Probably most ideal for kids 3-5. Food: Aside from cake, you have to utilize their food options. We had pizza, fried chicken, juice/water/soda and fruit. The dining area is quite small so if you are expecting more than 30 total people, you will feel like sardines. Arcade: Geared towards young kids, but they also have skeeball. Birthday packages are on the pricey side (starting at $750) so probably would wait until kids are at least 4-5 so that they can enjoy everything.

You'll have to sign again at the register, but it will save you a bunch of time when you arrive. Ok...for our experience. It can feel a little overwhelming when you first arrive if you haven't been there before. Having people walk in, with their own helmets, acting like they own the place will have anyone unsure where they should go or do when they first arrive. The staff make it feel very welcoming and friendly. After I finished check-in, I felt like the people with their own helmet. Tyrez helped me at check-in. He was patient, professional and friendly. When I say patient, I mean PATIENT! I had four kids with me and when it came to head covers alone, he got everyone what they needed even though I had to prompt the kids multiple times to come to a decision. We got there, but it was rough and Tyrez was amazing throughout! He even explained everything to me so that I wouldn't be caught off guard by anything and wouldn't end up frustrated...or at least that is how it felt. Next, know this. When they are running adult races, it's loud in the track area. Because I work safety, I have my watch set to alarm me when the sound exceeds the OSHA permissible exposure limit. It went off a lot. So, I measured the sound. It can get above 100 decibels. That's loud. Not as loud as a rock concert or fire truck siren, but it will make it difficult to have a conversation. You may want to consider ear plugs...or ear buds with noise canceling. The races are run very efficiently and they alternate between youth and adult groups. One safety feature the do great is that they are never on the track, together, at the same time. Safety seemed like it was well managed. When impacts happen, they throttle down the carts, to ensure everything is safe. One note though...and I see this as a huge positive...they let you RACE! Yes, they pay attention and focus on safety, but they don't scold or stop because of a little inadvertent contact. I was truly impressed by the balance they maintain there. In my group of four, two were a little scared and didn't race all the races we purchased (I bought the SpeedPass for each and it seems like a really good package for first timers), but they were amazing at helping me re-assign them to the others in our group. Luis helped me there and again, he was patient with me and helped ensure we got everything transferred correctly. He also answered all 5,000 of my questions throughout our visit. No, not really 5,000, but there were a lot. He was amazing! If I had any criticism at all, it would be for the game area. Many of their games weren't working because of a network error. It was disappointing for me, but it hit the kids hard. They should have someone dedicated to that area as it was never empty while we were there. I would imagine that having all working correctly would result in increased revenue. Overall, we had an amazing adventure there today and Tyrez and Luis were part of the reason why. Their track team was the other part...I just wasn't able to get their names. If you're looking for a new adventure, this is an amazing way to spend a Saturday!!!

Service issues happen from time to time, but what truly keeps customers coming back is the people. We wanted to recognize three team members who have consistently made our family's experience exceptional. **First, Kaydy, the Kids Club Coordinator.** For the past two years, our family has attended countless Kids Club events, and Kaydy has been the heart and soul behind so many of those memories. She greeted every family with a genuine smile and brought so much energy, warmth, and passion to every event. You could tell she truly loved what she did. It wasn't just another job--it showed in every interaction. When we recently learned she would be leaving, we were honestly heartbroken. Before the recent changes to the Kids Club program, events were consistently packed and often fully booked, and we have no doubt Kaydy's dedication played a huge role in building that loyal following. Pinstripes is losing an incredible employee, and any organization would be fortunate to have her. **Next is Ray, the upstairs manager.** Ironically, our first few visits to Pinstripes years ago could have been our last. We experienced recurring issues with our bowling lane and service that left us frustrated. Fortunately, Ray stepped in each time with professionalism, urgency, and genuine care. He resolved every situation quickly and made us feel heard rather than dismissed. The biggest testament to his leadership? After those early visits, we never encountered problems of that magnitude again. We truly believe his attentiveness and commitment to the guest experience played a major role in that. **And finally, Monica, the hostess with the mostest.** If you've been to Pinstripes, you've probably seen Monica constantly helping guests with a smile. She's hardworking, attentive, organized, and always makes us feel welcome. No matter how busy it gets, she takes the time to acknowledge people and make sure they're taken care of. As long-time customers, we can confidently say that while food, bowling, and bocce bring people through the doors, it's employees like Kaydy, Ray, and Monica who keep families coming back. The protein selection felt pretty minimal with mainly prime rib and ham, while most of the buffet consisted of carbs and desserts. On top of that, three of our family members ended up experiencing stomach issues afterward, which we suspect may have come from the chocolate fountain area. We've celebrated Mother's Day here before and were really looking forward to coming back, so it was disappointing to leave feeling let down.
