Beef Brisket Sandwich Mac & Cheese - Regular
    Connie P.

Was here for the first time on Monday10/13/25 6pm & This place was recommended by a local and Sandfly bbq did NOT disappoint! I really enjoyed my brisket sandwich with the a slight crunch from my buttered slightly toasted buns with the bbq sauce. It was good. Mac & cheese was just cheesy enough. Service was awesome and informative. Not too many tables inside but was cozy. I highly recommend this place and would come back if ever in town again

I have never been to sandfly bbq when it isn't Poppin' but I took a late lunch break today and was delighted to have the plate to myself at 2pm on a Thursday afternoon. I had the double brisket and a whole mess of fries . My meal came out fast- fresh and most of all delicious! This is my favorite bbq place on this part of town and it was nice to experience it when it was but calmer than the normal Saturday afternoon rush.

I don't love barbecue but I loved this place! It was super fresh and the meat was very tender. Sauces are great and so are the sides. Friendly staff and there is plenty of outdoor seating with our dog. Highly recommend the pooled chicken.

The food is the star! I visited Sandfly for the first time in Feb 2026. I was accompanied by a mate who travels the country and eats Bbq nationwide. He was impressed. I was in heaven! I had the Hog Wild Platter. The sliced brisket was melt in your mouth good. They were out of ribs, so an extra portion of the delicious brisket filled in. The pulled pork was well prepared although a bit dry. The chicken... ohhh the chicken was tender, juicy and delicious. For sides, the collard greens reminded me of my childhood in Florida. Better than mom's? Yes sorry mom! I love that it's unpretentious. It's not a tourist trap. It was filled with real local folk. The vibe is neighborhood friendly food. The service was friendly and helpful. Summary: Amazing Q, chill vibe, reasonable prices. I will return again and again!

Had lunch here on a Saturday afternoon. We got there around noon before the crowd about ten minutes later. Small dining room inside and tables outside. Order at a counter and they bring your food quickly. I got the three sliders,(sausage, pork, and brisket) with collards. My wife got the six wings with fried okra. I really enjoyed my sliders with their sweet sauce. The collards were very good with pepper sauce on the table. My wife got the wings dry rubbed with a dipping sauce she enjoyed. Fried okra was good. Good barbecue experience.

Delicious bbq, one of the best out there. The Brunswick stew is probably the best we've ever had and is at the top of its category. A little pricey though, but the quality stands out.

Stopped in on a recommendation from our daughter. So glad we did. We ordered the Hog Sampler which gave you a portion of all their meats, two sides, and two slices of Texas toast. All the meat was nice and tender and had a great smoked flavor. The brisket, pulled pork, chicken and ribs was very tasty. The baked beans have a nice flavor, however, was too much meat and very little beans. The macaroni and cheese were not that good, noodles way over cooked. Potato salad wasn't bad. The building is small however, does provide outside seating . Service was provided with a welcoming friendly smile. Even though a few of the sides were not to my liking the meat definitely was. We will be back.

Great tasting BBQ. The fries are amazing as well. The atmosphere is a typical BBQ dive in a strip mall, but the food is great.

Pork was tender and smoky. Great on its own but even better with their sauce! Great amount of pork on the plate. Potato salad was in my top 3! It was creamy and chunky. It had a garlic butter type taste which was Soo good. A must try. Collards were ok but needed a little more seasoning. I added the spicy BBQ sauce and they were good with that. Others had the smoked wings and the 1/4 chicken platter. Wings naked were really good. Chicken was very juicy and flavorful. Service was quick and attentive. Our server was very polite and kept our glasses full as we chugged them down from beach dehydration. Located in a strip center in Whitemarsh. Don't drive by and miss this great BBQ.

Our server was a younger guy who was in training but you would have easily assumed he was a pro. He was attentive, knowledgeable, and confident when fielding the questions we had about the menu. We ordered a Half Slab portion of their St Louis Cut Ribs platter with fries and mac-and-cheese as a side & the 1/2 Chicken platter with Brunswick Stew and mac-and-cheese as a side. Both proteins were tender and well seasoned. Both were served with a piece of buttered Texas toast. Their original and Better than Sex sauces were great additions to the flavors! The mac-and-cheese was creamy and delicious. Not my favorite Brunswick Stew but it satisfied the craving that I had.

The whole place is designed to feel like the inside of a trailer--spray-painted antique chandeliers, old pictures of different trailer parks, and random little details everywhere. It's kitschy, but very intentional, and honestly pretty cool. We came in late after a 4h drive into town after work, and the staff was still super friendly and accommodating. No "we're about to close" energy, which I appreciated. We started with the creamy collard dip, which is basically their take on spinach-artichoke dip, but with collards. Really good. I do think the chips were a little too heavy for the dip--a thinner chip would've been perfect--but that's a small note. The chicken pancake tacos were probably my favorite. The chicken was fried perfectly and still really moist. And at this point, I'm convinced Savannah just knows how to cook chicken. Everywhere we went, the chicken was consistently good. My partner got the grilled apple pie sandwich, which has fried chicken, grilled apples and bacon. He's not even a big pork person, but that bacon was so crispy and the whole combination just worked. Even the waffle fries were good--crispy, fresh and actually seasoned. We had the Grateful Dead and Wicked Kiwi cocktails, plus a couple of shots, and the drinks were strong, good and reasonably priced. Honestly, I don't have a ton of notes here. It's not trying to be some elevated dining experience. It's just a really good late-night spot with good food, strong drinks, friendly service and a fun atmosphere. We sat inside because Savannah in August was not about to have us sitting on anybody's patio. Definitely recommend, especially if you're looking for somewhere to eat late. It was a vibe, the food was good, and it did exactly what it needed to do.

Before our trip, one of my fraternity brothers told me that if I wanted some of the best Southern soul food in Savannah, I had to visit Mrs. Wilkes. He also warned me that there would be a long wait. Let me just say--he was absolutely right on both counts! We arrived at the restaurant and stood in line outside in the rain. We didn't get seated until 1:00 PM. Normally, I would not wait that long for a meal, but for the record, and I can't believe I'm saying this--it was worth every minute of the wait. The experience was unlike any restaurant I've ever visited. My wife and I were seated at a large table with approximately eight other people whom we had never met. Yet within minutes, it felt like we were dining with family. The atmosphere was warm, welcoming, and filled with genuine Southern hospitality. The food was simply outstanding. Every traditional Southern dish you can imagine was brought to the table and passed family-style from person to person. The home-cooked flavors reminded me of the meals many of us grew up enjoying. Everything was delicious, and the desserts were just as impressive. What made the experience even more special was the sense of community. People of different backgrounds and races were dining together, sharing food, conversation, and fellowship. The staff worked together seamlessly and went out of their way to make every guest feel welcome. While we waited in line, a gracious lady shared the history of the restaurant and the legacy of Mrs. Wilkes herself. The staff even provided umbrellas to guests who didn't have one--including me--which was a thoughtful gesture that spoke volumes about their commitment to customer service. From the food, to the hospitality, to the rich history and unique family-style dining experience, Mrs. Wilkes Dining Room exceeded every expectation. If you're visiting Savannah, this is not just a meal--it's an experience. I proudly give Mrs. Wilkes Dining Room a 5 out of 5-star rating and highly recommend it to anyone visiting Savannah.

I rolled down the windows because I could tell somebody was making BBQ, and the smell made us both perk up. We drove by and said to one another that we should try that sometime, because it smelled amazing, then we made it one street down and both agreed we needed to turn around and try it today. There was free parking at the church across the street, and the second we parked and crossed Waters to check the place out, we were greeted by clouds of decadent-smelling smoke billowing out from the screened porch attached to the building. I told my wife that I hoped we would smell like that smoke all day. The place was packed when we walked in, but it turned out everybody had ordered and was just waiting for their food to come out, so another customer told us to wait by the register, and about 15 minutes later we ordered a large combo plate and were given a ticket with a number to be called out when our food was ready. 10-15 minutes after we ordered, our number was called, and we took our bag (which felt like it weighed 5 lbs) and walked it back to our car across the street. We opened up the container just to get a sample before heading home, and ended up eating nearly the entire meal in the car, trying our best not to spill sauce everywhere but really not caring either way. The combo plate came with two chicken legs, about 3/4 of a rack of pork ribs, a side of baked beans, and two slices of classic white bread. It usually comes with potato salad, too, but neither of us are huge potato salad fans. However, we will try it next time, because I imagine they could put a shoe in a container and it would taste amazing given their cooking skills. The pork ribs were the most tender ribs I've ever had in my life. I've always said that it doesn't matter how easily the meat falls off the bone, but rather how easily it melts in your mouth when you've taken a bite. These ribs melted in your mouth. The chicken was equally delicious. The meat was tender and juicy, and--somehow--there was actually crispy skin on part of it, which had audible crunch when bitten into. The sauce was incredible. You can ask for it to be put on your ribs and chicken, or--like we plan to next time--buy a bottle to go. It's a mix of mustard and vinegar based, which is hands down my favorite. I grew up in upstate SC where you can find both options, but having them all in one was a dream come true. The baked beans were a great, sweet break from the chicken and ribs, and a slice of classic white bread is always great for soaking up extra sauce. I can't recommend this spot enough. Oh, and local, family-owned! We will 1000% be back.

Looking back, we probably should've kept right on walking. We ordered the fried chicken, potato wedges, red rice, New Orleans rice, and cabbage, jalapeno cornbread and pecan cornbread. Unfortunately, the only things we actually enjoyed were the fried chicken and the potato wedges. Once again, it was an epic fail. The cabbage tasted like it had been boiled in plain water with absolutely no seasoning. Both the red rice and the New Orleans rice reminded us of Minute Rice or Uncle Ben's microwavable rice--bland, lacking flavor, and nothing like the rich, seasoned rice dishes we were expecting. The fried chicken was crispy, juicy, and well-seasoned, and the potato wedges were cooked perfectly, but those two items weren't enough to save the meal. We came hoping for authentic Southern comfort food, but left disappointed. Sadly, this is one restaurant we won't be adding to our list of places to revisit.
