We figured we're at Sandfly BBQ, we have to try the Pulled Pork. We also got a brisket and sausage 2 meat combo. Our sides were sweet potato fries and Brunswick stew. The pulled pork was tasty and a nice size portion. The meat combo brisket consisted of two small slices of brisket and a sausage split in half. Seemed a little pricey at $16.00. I searched the menu for any semi healthy sides like green beans or hot Okra and Tomato but no such luck. Everything was fried. Ended up with Brunswick stew that was pretty good. The sweet potato fries were crispy but seemed a little over cooked. We did appreciate the jazz and blues music that was playing. I thought that maybe the restaurant would have something about the Sandfly community history but I was disappointed. At least if they had anything, I missed it. We opted to eat inside but they also had outdoor tables. I would like to return since we visited at 20 minutes to closing. This is one of those hometown places that they will serve until they are out of their food. The night we went there out of beef brisket. I've been there other times and they have other B's birthday which is pretty good. I recommend sliced. There's easy parking in the front as this is in a shopping center. The baked beans are delicious as well. Mac & cheese is pretty average. French fries were good onion rings or nothing to write home about. The Brunswick stew was not impressive. Oh my!!! The food was excellent!!! This was my first time at this establishment and everything was delish! Those fried jalapeño pepper strips were absolutely mouth watering with the sauce. One of the best BBQ joints in the Savannah area and a sister restaurant to the Streamliner downtown, both having the same fare! Jo and I were on the go, and in the SandFly was in area due to the Yelp event nearby so we decided to have some BBQ. It's counter ordering and you fill your own drinks here so service while fast is limited. We went with our usual and ordered the Hog Wild platter! This platter is a great deal to share for two and maybe for three for a lighter fare as you get a super sampling of their food; at least two ribs, chopped pork, sausage, brisket and choice of a 1/4 chicken dark or white meat and two sides! We elected to have their Brunswick stew and fried okra and received a cup of the stew and a heaping pile of the fried okra as our sides! The portions about are about a 1/4 pound each so you get plenty! The smoked sausage is split down the center (butterflied) sprinkled with their rub and cooked till it has a slightly crunchy caramelized coating (yes, it's very good). We had a good portion of brisket that was fairly lean and we went with the 1/4 white chicken. The chicken was still juicy and the brisket being very lean was a slightly moist. The pulled pork was lean as well but very moist and tasty especially with their North Carolina vinegar sauce. The ribs have a good amount of their dry rub and are very flavorful with a nice smoke ring. I paired them and the brisket with the GA red tomato based sauce which is smoky and a little on the sweet side. I used their mustard sauce with the chicken which has a nice level of spice. The fried okra was crisp and their Brunswick stew was good but not great (or at least today, as i usually like their stew better normally, at the Streamliner). We were stuffed after splitting the whole platter and decided that this was our meal for the day. Food 4.5 Their BBQ sausage is great, the ribs are bone sucking good (with that rub). Pulled pork is very good as well with good complementary sauces to experiment with. Sides and other fare are fresh and good tasting. Service 3 It's all at the counter and you get your own refills on your drinks (yeah, multiple trips for tea refills for me...), but they help you make your selections and are friendly. Atmosphere 3.5 It's a strip mall with nice BBQ signage (old drink and farm type signs and pictures) with old wood on the walls. Price 5 The Hog Wild Platter is $28 and easily stuffed the two of us and if we were eating a standard lunch we could have taken some home for lunch tomorrow too. This is such a cute place on the outside of the city! You are definitely away from the hustle and bustle of the city but it is still within walking distance! We stopped on the trolley at Forsyth Park and found this place! It is in an old train! On a nice day there is some seating outside! It is a small restaurant but a cool place to visit! The food was great! The Brunswick stew, the Wally, and the BBQ is great! They let us order the Duck fries with all the pork fry toppings and they were great for appetizers! After all the great reviews on Yelp and recommendation from our friends, we decided to come here for lunch on a Friday afternoon. The place wasn't crowded, there is both indoor as well as outdoor seating. Me and my date decided to share the Pork and Brisket plate with comes with a toast and two sides, for which we got the mac and cheese and coleslaw. The platter was good, nothing too extra ordinary. The meat was cooked perfectly, the mac and cheese was not bad and I loved the coleslaw. It had the right amount of everything. If you're really hungry, I don't recommend sharing because it's not a lot of food for two people. The service was quick, we got our food in less than 5 minutes. I've heard about this place from quite a few people in the area. It's located in a small strip mall in the Sandfly neighborhood of Savannah near the water. I shared the pork and brisket basket which came with two sides. We got mac and cheese and coleslaw. I thoroughly enjoyed it. The meat was tender and succulent. The mac and cheese was ok, nothing special and the same with the coleslaw. This is definitely a go to place for home style BBQ and southern comfort food. I highly recommend this place for people out of town who are craving BBQ and southern cuisine. It definitely attests to the unique style of food that the South is well known for. After trying this and another spot in Charleston, I realized the South is not necessarily synonymous with superior 'cue: Maybe our mistake was trying this glum strip-mall-ey location v. the funky converted trolley car outpost that originally caught my eye. But it was convenient to Wormsloe where we'd just taken some pics... At any rate, we ordered a Hog Wild Platter to share for a very late lunch. Juicy Smoked Sausage was the clear winner, followed by moist Pulled Pork and Smoked Chicken. But the Brisket and Ribs just weren't tender or flavorful enough. Our sides, Brunswick Stew and Fried Okra, were a fun change of pace from the usual potato salad and collards that we tend to order at other spots. I especially enjoyed the Stew. Sometimes, a few generous drizzles of the right sauce can magically perk up ho hum BBQ. No such alchemy with the sauces I tried here. I believe that each represented a different region, but I am a fan of heat and bold flavor and none of them were kicked up enough for me. Ultimately, there were enough bright spots foodwise to balance the nonexistent 2 star ambience. But I'm in no hurry to return. read more

Great find while in Savannah. This Yelp reviews did not disappoint and I will definitely return when I'm in town next. The sausage was flavorful with a hint of dry rub on it. The brisket was thick, moist and very tender. I could not tell if it was wood or electric smoked, but my only complaint would be not as strong of smoke flavor as I prefer. The collards were truly a highlight as they were packed with flavor and had a hint of sweetness I've never found in them. THE SCENE We were at a loss for what to eat while visiting Savannah. Been here a number of times and usually find ourselves eating at the same places. So we decided to give the yelp "Best Ratings" filters a try and followed the 5 Star Fairy down to Sandfly. I must say this is only the second time I've tried using the Yelp filters to find something good to eat, but it's been an AWESOME experience both times. First to Bleu House Market near my home and now here while on a short weekend vacation. This is a small restaurant with about 10 tables on the inside, a few benches on the outside and a single toilet bathroom in the rear of the store. Add some eclectic wall decor, a surge of customers around noon and an ice machine that gets clogged and your in for a little fun. Staff were very friendly and bring your order to your table. THE FOOD I ordered 6 bones plus a 1/4 pound of beef brisket with mac n' cheese & fries to share with my youngest son. The meat was very smoky and fall off the bone tender! While the meat on the bone was flavorful, the real treasure came in the juicy, flavor packed meat near the gristle. It was the kind of flavor that makes you loose your manners, moan uncontrollably and lick your fingers as you try to suck every morsel of meat off like a vulture on a carcass. My only grip is I don't like meat to be overly smoky in flavor. I like a hint of smoke, not enough to make me feel like I could blow smoke rings :-) The Mac N' Cheese was fantastic! The fries were thin cut and would have preferred steak fries, but the sweet sauce helped me to enjoy them more. What I didn't really like were the baked beans. They were not quite as sweet as I hoped and the meat added from the ribs made it taste (again) too smoky. Also, the sweet potato fries were kinda over cooked. Both my sons really thought the ribs, brisket and chicken nuggets were "outstanding", but didn't really like any of the sides other than the onion rings and mac n' cheese. THE VERDICT Four under $32, we ate very well! The meats are the reason to come here, but the sides brought it down a star. Definitely worthy of a visit if you are in the city of Savannah! read more

Sandfly BBQ is a small family owned BBQ place located in a modern strip mall in Sandfly GA. Many will say that in the Savannah area, they are many other BBQ places with great merit but ,some of those many were not at Sandfly BBQ the day I was there. The ribs are rich in smokey flavor with just enough bite so that your mouth knows that you have good BBQ . The brisket and pulled pork were moist as well, with that same rich smokey flavor. The sides that I had were sweet potato fries, a marvelous new invention that many restaurants will soon have. I also had the Brunswick stew, more than likely cooked for hours, or maybe even days, with a multitude of rich flavors that any good Brunswick stew should have. While I was waiting, one of the locals came in and I asked how often she ate here, and she said about once or twice a week. The most surprising thing about this was, she said with a smile on here face she was a vegetarian and this was the only place she ate meat. And that is good enough for me! read more

I went to this restaurant with my brother as a part of our US road trip...where we basically ate our way down the east coast. Now, this is what a bbq place is supposed to be like! On to the most important part.... The pulled pork sandwich is definitely one of, if not THE BEST I have ever had. I have eaten bbq across the US and am on a continuous quest to find the best, and it might be at the Sandfly. The pork had all the smokey flavor I dream about, the sauce was perfect and not overpowering, and even the bun was tasty (I think they might have put a little butter on it and grilled it). Oh, and here is the real kicker....the sweet potato fries. HOLY SHIT ARE THESE GOOD!!! By far, the best I have ever eaten. That's two "best's" here. Now that's saying something. Ok so my son insisted I give this place a second chance and at least try their beef brisket. So I finally caved in and went to try it and they were sold out. Oops. Not to worry, I was feeling brave that day and decided to give their ribs a another try. I drove home nervously with my 4 rib plate with double order of fries (they were out of most other sides). To my DELIGHT (someone was paying attention to Yelp reviews) the ribs were seasoned to perfection. No more overpowering smoke flavor and just the right amount of rub. So fantastic! The fries are thin, like potato sticks, loved them. I was so relieved and excited. The coconut cake is good too. Moist and yummy. I returned to try the brisket...they only had it shredded so I had it in a sandwich. It was very flavorful and yummy. The mac and cheese, according to my daughter, is great. Had the ribs again to make sure it wasn't just a fluke. Good again. A little heavier on the rub this time but still within the yum zone. Even the staff were friendlier and joking each of my additional visits. Much better experiences. This place is always busy, even when it rains. We are from Texas sorry folks but for us it has been almost impossible to find great brisket here in Savannah. This is the pork capitol of the world so we had pretty much resigned the thought of finding great or even good brisket here. This place was excellent. the meat was tender and moist just like home! The flavor was smoked to perfection. Not overly seasoned or cooked. Pulled pork was excellent. Again great smoked flavor and perfect balance of flavor that you could enjoy the meat not just spices. Ribs were a little overdone and dry but everything else was great. Baked Beans were great...liked that they had a little bit of a kick to them. I've got to give credit where it's due and Sandfly BBQ really pull out all the stops, from the excellent front of house service to the wonderful barbecue coming out of the kitchen, our take out meal was just about perfect. The two young women working at the front were very courteous and knowledgeable about the menu. I have to say, though, that "everything's good" isn't helpful for customers drowning in choices and looking for a bit of guidance. ;) The beef brisket and pulled pork sandwiches are excellent, as were the ribs and the pulled chicken. It was all very juicy and the sandwiches were paired with a dark red tomato-based sauce for the beef, and a sweet, tangy mustard-based sauce for the pork. The fat content on all of the above was right on the mark. As for the sides, the collard greens were very nice, and the onion rings were great. Our pleasure from the side dishes was slightly lessened by the mac and cheese, cole slaw and the fried okra, which could use some improvement. The mac and cheese had been cooked either too long or at too high a temperature, so the proteins had coagulated and become grainy. More starch in the cheese sauce can help this as well. The fried okra was under-seasoned. Okra really needs salt, and my feeing is that it should be part of the batter. Okra also likes a little chile powder. The cabbage in the cole slaw hadn't been pre-salted to extract the water, so the cole slaw ended up being very soupy. read more
