Located in the charming old downtown Shawnee, Servae's Brewery sits conveniently on the main stretch of Johnson Drive. The space is large and inviting, with ample seating at both tables and the bar. There's a dedicated area with puzzles and games, as well as a small play spot for kids--great touches for a relaxed, family-friendly vibe. Despite the thoughtful setup, the bar was completely empty on a Thursday night, which set a bit of a subdued tone. One of our group tried a flight of sours and enjoyed them overall, though the one billed as having a pickle flavor lacked any noticeable pickle notes. I opted for the Shawgirl Slushie--made with vanilla ice cream vodka, orange juice, orange syrup, and vanilla--but found it underwhelming and wouldn't order it again. I don't get to Servas often enough. They always have lots of different beers on tap and I almost always opt for a flight to try out as many as possible. They have a large taproom and even a kid's corner so there's plenty of room for everyone. The service has always been great and the taproom clean. They don't serve food but if you check their socials, they often have food trucks or you can bring in your own. My last visit, I brought in a sushi roll. They also have different activities during the week like bingo and pop ups. In addition to beer, they do offer cocktails and non alcoholic beverages like Aaron's craft soda. Beer was great, a bummer bc i won't be back! Service was double thumbs down. From the moment i ordered, i was made to feel a burden "well I'm all alone here so if you're gonna order a flight, do it now not later" , after mentioning we wanted to try several beers, server said "not too many or I'm liable for that" when i said "don't worry we brought a designated driver!" She replied "well if you run into the street because you had too many you could sue me"... When someone at my table won bingo, he was too slow and didn't get a prize. When i got a bingo, i was told not to run. She had my number for no good reason from the moment i stepped foot on the property until i left. Crabbiest beer tender I've ever met. Very disappointing considering there were other beers i wanted to try next time. If you're going to host a "fun bingo night", allow people to have fun rather than going out of your way to do the opposite. Most brew pubs are fun because you can get to know the story behind the place, what beers they are proud of and why. This was the compete opposite experience. Found myself in Shawnee with a sudden overwhelming thirst. Stopped in at Servaes and it felt like a synchronous meeting of fate and the beer gods had altered my life forever. Ordered a flight of the most interesting sours I've had since George Clinton got the funk. Next up, the Doppelbock was Kafka in a glass, mysterious and intense. The seating area is a clean, well-lighted place built for happy memories. It's a good sized place with half of it being the Mosaic room which is a bit weird since it's, you know, just the other side of the room. But there is a row of guest taps behind the bar, there, in the Mosaic room. The beer pourer was super friendly which made the Servaes experience complete and joyous. read more

I tried a flight that included a coffee berry chocolate sour, caramel chocolate spiced ale, coffee milk stout, and pineapple orange chipotle, and all of them seriously opened my palette to new beer adventures. The taps are constantly rotating out with interesting new flavors to try so this makes me want to come back again and again! Of late, I've stuck to trying one or two options. Glad to see some semi-consistent or returning flavors! As fun as the varieties are, I felt the chances of having a favorite again on a second visit were so slim! The space is a lot roomier since expanding. I think it's helped the space feel a little warmer; the lighting at night can be brighter or harsher, but I feel I've noticed this less since the expansion! Wednesdays are fun with music bingo! We love bringing our pup and meeting up with friends to play and have a few drinks! I will say if you go on a Wednesday there's typically only one staff member working the bar, bingo cards; and the bingo game. SOUR CITY!! Finally found my brewery in the metro area. Can't get over how many sour options they always have. And they aren't you're typical golden sours or basic barrel aged. They're creative. Favorite bar in Shawnee! Their beers are imaginative and delicious. The last time I went in they were pretty heavy on IPAs and sours, which aren't my favorites but I think they have a pretty good rotation so this isn't always the case. Plus I had the Your Light Made Us Stars saison which was delicious! I'm thrilled about their recent expansion which allows for more seating. I will say if you're looking for a place to watch the game this isn't our best bet, though I'm sure some people will be relieved to hear that (Transport Brewery down the street regularly has sports on their TVs). In addition to the great drinks, nice atmosphere, and unwavering friendly service, they are philanthropic as well, often supporting local organizations by donating a portion of their proceeds. So excited this place has opened in Shawnee! Not only is the beer great but it's #brewedbyagirl. I had the Champagne Breakfast (a sour) and it was worth getting a second round of. We ordered the OSP dip from Shawnee Pizza so we had something to munch on. Delicious! It's a cute spot on Johnson Drive with parking off the street. At least 10 beers on tap at all times. This is quickly becoming my favorite brewery in Kansas City. Fun and unique styles of beer that are available on draft and a lot of options in cans to go as well. I've tried 12/16 beers they have brewed now and all of them have been fantastic. My favorite so far has been their Milkshake Secrets, a sour IPA. One tip, if you see something on the menu that looks interesting, go as soon as possible. There are more and more people coming so things do not last long. It's probably a good thing this brewery is 30 minutes away, or I would be here WAY more often than I already am. read more

This cute little spot has a unique and delicious selection of craft beer and soda. We tried the Rise Up Mocha sweet stout which was exactly what you'd expect and delicious. I also stepped out of my typical beer drinking box and tried the Empty Canvas-Tutti Fruitti cream ale and the NEIPE Carrot Cake, which I really enjoyed. The latter two had a sweetness to them but weren't too sweet. They would be awesome beers to drink outside this summer on a hot day. I didn't try any of the sodas but they all sound amazing. We happened upon Servaes on a Tuesday just in time for trivia and it was a blast! We really loved the host, and the trivia questions were fun. Everything was easy to see and to hear. The beer on tap was cold and plentiful. There were a lot of options, which we appreciated. The space is big, and very clean with a lot of tables for patrons. Walking in, we were a little confused about how the place worked. We didn't know if there were servers, or we were to get drinks from the bar, and although a bartender walked by us several times, nothing was said. We finally figured out there was a main bar out of our view, and that's where we got drinks. I do wish food was available, or more widely available. There was a small selection of chips and salsa, corn dip, and tacos, but we are vegetarians so the dips were our only option. They were delicious, but we were starving and hoping for more. This is my favorite brewing company in KC! I've become a connoisseur of well crafted beers, particularly IPA varieties. Absolutely everything I have ever tried at this place I loved! Can't say that about most brewing companies and tap rooms. She is very creative and the love literally poured into the brewing process is clearly evident. Even in the craft brew space, most people simply don't have the desire to be so great at it. She is a master brewer and deserves to be in the brewing hall of fame (wherever that is). While IPAs are clearly my favorite, I love a good Belgian style beer and a rich, flavorful stout. You can get those here too. OMG- you MUST try the Great White Shark. Its a BLONDE looking beer, but wait till you taste it. It defies what you know about beer and will have you questioning your eyes. Why? Because the taste is rich and full bodied with NO bitterness. It's not often that I hand out a 5 star review but I was super pleased with what this brewery had to offer! Came in on a Saturday with a group of 8. We had to wait for a table to leave but did get seating. Seating is on a first come first serve basis here - if you see a spot, grab the spot! Small area with a counter you walk up to to order. Then your order is placed on the bar and you just grab it and head back to your table. With it being a small area it got crowded quick! Hard to get around, get your drink, etc. There is no food here just pretzels and nuts to purchase, we saw a food truck outside but went out to order and it was gone. So they might on do lunch/early dinner hours? We did see a few dogs inside so I'm assuming dog friendly for those 4 legged friends! Now for the important part... the beers! I think between our table we sampled just about all they offered. By far the winners were their current Paint beers (celebrating their 2 years so I think these are limited release). There is Pink, Purple, Yellow & Green Paint beers. WOW - these sours are good! Flavor is right - not as sour as others I've had but still very enjoyable. They also have a series of sheet cake beers (chocolate, vanilla and strawberry). I personally was not a fan but a few people at the table enjoyed them. Also a Cotton Candy sour which doesn't sound good and yet they somehow made it work in a beer! A couple IPA/Sour crossovers and some stouts that people tried at the table.
