Regular Chicken Katsu Sando and Regular Chicken Katsu Rice Bowl and Sprite can

My brother and I stopped in here for lunch and it was a great experience! The restaurant is clean, and the cashier was very friendly. I had been once before, but it was my brother's first time and he enjoyed his bowl! I got the regular sandwich with curry fries, which tasted excellent with a little cup of dipping sauce they now pair it with. The sandwich is so yummy! The sandwich and fries pair well with a crisp can of Sprite. Everything was very fresh, and well worth the 10 minute wait. Can't wait to go back and try more menu items!

Very cool spot in Maplewood to add another option of food to their already diverse shopping strip! Bf and I stopped in right when the snow started and got almost the entire place to ourselves. Clean restrooms and friendly staff, very important to me and this place has both! Owner or manager greeted us upon arrival and asked if we had been in before or needed any suggestions from the menu. I asked about the ice cream choices and considered saving room despite the cold outside...but sadly missed out and didn't get any at the end. Bf got the regular chicken katsu bowl and I went with the pork tonkatsu sando. Similar flavors but just depends on if you like using your hands or working with a fork. Feel like he got the right choice (but you miss out on bread if you go with the bowl) I think our favorite part was the fries, great seasoning and perfectly crisp outside.

Finally get to try the brick and mortar location of Sando Shack. The last time I had their Sando was so long ago. Their Maplewood location was big and spacious. I really liked the decor and the cool vibe. We ordered the spicy chicken katsu Sando and it was delicious. The meat was juicy on the inside and crispy on the outside. The Sando came with the side of fries. We got the togarashi fries and they were so addicting. Fries were not as crispy but very well seasoned and went perfect with the aioli sauce. We also tried the pork katsu rice bowl. I didn't like the sauce as much as the chicken Sando but it was still pretty good. I liked that the rice was well-cooked. You must try their ice cream. I would have come just for it alone. They have a good variety of flavors. My favorite was the miso taro and the yuzu caramel. The staff were very nice to us and the food came out quick. Highly recommend you guys checking this place out.

We were in the area and walk around the neighborhood and saw this place. This was our first time going here. The food was good. The cheeseballs were unique with curry flavor and quite enough cheese. The fries have good seasoning. The staff were fast and helpful. If you are in the area, give them a try.

Highly anticipated spot for me... I was really really counting on some authentic Japanese food after visiting Japan earlier this year. Mostly I wanted the soft bread.. so I was slightly disappointed when we got our sandwiches and they appeared relatively average American looking sandwiches. There are rice bowls also available. The flavor was very good and was satisfied with the meal overall, but just not the caliber we found in Japan. They always seem to be busy which makes Me happy, I'm glad they are finding success. they are in a perfect spot right on the corner. Overall, glad they are there! Excited to try again.. atmosphere was bustling !

Sandwich was good, nice, rich flavor! Tried the fries with Japanese curry sauce- fries were awesome. I ordered the teriyaki tofu rice bowl which was also solid, tofu could have been crispier, but that's a personal preference ! Service was very friendly. Street parking. Order at counter and eat in dining area. Meal took about 15 minutes to come out which they told us about prior. Overall good experience!

Went here for lunch on Saturday afternoon with a friend. I have tried to go before but it's been closed for various reasons. Ordered the Sweet and Spicy Chicken Katsu Sando with curry fries. Sandwich was a good size and flavorful but I didn't really get a lot of sweet and spicy flavor from it. I really enjoyed the curry fries and the dipping sauce with them. The location is pretty large and has plenty of seating. Sandwich took a while to come out, but was hot. Service was friendly. I would love to go back and try a rice bowl.

First time in their brick-and-mortar location in Maplewood. I parked around back but there is street parking in front if you happen to snag it. The set up was similar to the business that was there prior, but it was well laid out and decorated with some great murals and such. Order at the counter where the staff is ready to answer any questions. I had tried the chicken katsu sandwich from the food truck so I decided on a bowl this time. The Pork Katsu rice bowl described as Pork Katsu, house made cabbage slaw, cucumbers, pickled ginger, over white rice. My order came up pretty quickly, and I sat at a table to sample. the bowl came with a sticky sweet sauce on the side. I enjoyed the bowl ingredients minus the sauce. I was skeptical about the slaw and the rice but the combined bite was delicious! The portion was generous with lots of pork katsu slices. Lots of people had the sandwich and seemed to be enjoying it but I might continue getting the bowl. The staff was friendly and helpful, food quick and delicious, the only small issue I had was the plastic fork wasn't the sturdiest to use on the rice. I would go back again, for sure

Loved the food truck and was happy to try the new location. Chicken is delicious as always and very filling. Staff was friendly and the cashier went through everything they had and answered all of our questions. Clean establishment and is a great choice for a quick lunch. Will certainly head back next time I am craving some katsu chicken.

We stopped for a lunch at this new location and really enjoyed our experience! I hadn't ever gone to their old location, but this one was very spacious with adequate seating. For lunch, it was quite busy work people steadily filling up chairs as they emptied. We ordered a few items from the counter and grabbed a seat. To start, we did the sweet chili wings and cucumber salad. The sweet chili wings were deliciously sticky, perfect amount of heat and spice. The cucumber salad was crisp and refreshing! For our mains, we did the chicken karage sando and the pie tonkatsu sando. Personally, I LOVED the pork. It was juice and crunchy. The slaw on the sando really helped to cut down on the heavy fried taste. The fries we got with the spicy togarashi seasoning, which was fantastic with the cook of the fries. A light spice flavor without being overbearing or too salty.

I was anxiously awaiting getting to try them in Maplewood, and it was worth the wait! The chicken on my sandwich was crispy and juicy, the toppings added a nice crunch too. I got the curry seasoned fries, but couldn't really notice any huge flavor difference. Overall though, it was a stellar meal! The staff was super friendly for how busy they have been - and how busy they were when we went at 6:30 on a Thursday. I got the matcha ice cream for desert (they partner with Sugarwich!) and my friend got a taiyaki. We are used to places serving taiyaki warm, but this one was not. She still said it was tasty though, and filled with plenty of Nutella!

Love Sandos new location! So much bigger than the tiny spot they had before! The decor is still the same but there's so much light! Service was fast even during busy lunch hour. I got the classic sando and it was delicious and had to save some for later! Love their sauce and toppings! The curry fries is a bit sweet. They have ice cream and taiyaki now so next time I have to try that!

Stopped in for lunch around noon on a Sunday and it was already quite busy! Despite how busy it was the food was very quick to arrive! I tried the chicken karaage sandwich with fries and the star of the show was definitely the chicken! Specifically the breading, it was fried perfectly very light, not too oily and seasoned perfectly! The slaw was a refreshing touch as well. The sandwich was a little hard to eat as it can get quite messy but it was delicious. The fries are crunchy but nothing extraordinary. Overall the service was great and speedy. There were a decent amount of seats and a little corner with games. By the time I left every table was taken but I will definitely be coming back for that chicken again!

I had been looking forward to visiting 9 Mile Garden for quite some time and had the opportunity to…read moreattend a private event there. On the plus side, there is plenty of free parking in front in two large lots. There is lots of seating in the garden and outdoor games available, plus plenty of space for the food trucks. It is dog friendly (pickup bags provided). There is a large movie screen that is easy to see and hear when they play movies. On the other hand, I was confused about the name "9 Mile Garden" since the outdoor part of this is small. It's not even half a mile long. I thought, based on the name, that it would be a larger entertainment area. It isn't, and the surrounding businesses include a large smoke shop and a Dollar Tree. There was a gravel hill between the garden area and the Canteen indoor bar area that was slippery in the rain (why no convenient stairs?). The bathrooms are rustic, similar to what you might find at a hiking trail head.

Upon arrival, I was informed by staff that I could not bring my personal tumbler, which contained protein water. The policy prohibits outside beverages, including water, regardless of whether they are sold on-site. I have allergies to many of the items available at the venue and was hoping to enjoy my day while staying hydrated with my own clean water. I use a metal container specifically to avoid microplastics, fluoride, and unnecessary chemical exposure common in many bottled or plastic alternatives. The manager explained that outside tumblers are not permitted because other guests might do the same. However, I observed the manager himself carrying and using his own personal tumbler filled with a beverage brought from home (not purchased on-site). This created an unfortunate perception of inconsistency in policy enforcement. For health-conscious individuals, those with dietary restrictions or allergies, or anyone preferring to avoid plastic and chemical-laden beverages, this policy may present a challenge. I would recommend considering this before visiting if maintaining control over your hydration and personal wellness choices is important to you.

It is a Trojan horse for one of the best burgers in St. Louis (my wife says I'm being dramatic for calling it THE best; I say I am not NOT going back for another). We enjoyed everything we order: the pork belly burnt ends and cashew chicken wings, and a coffee & cardamom old fashioned that sounds like a personality disorder but tastes like a vibe, smoky, a touch sweet, and very drinkable year-round. The Sam Elliott burger, BBQ sauce, bacon, crunchy onions, brioche, is named for a man who has never disappointed anyone, and neither does the sandwich. And the meatloaf is NOT your grandma's brick: tender, charred at the edges, laid over silky mashed potatoes with broccolini, perhaps closer to a chop steak than a loaf in the best possible way. Vibe is farm-chic: old church pews, repurposed interior doors, a proper bar up front, plus a patio and rooftop for when the weather cooperates. Fun fact -- it's named after the blue duck Billy Madison paints in elementary school, which is a fantastic piece of trivia and tells you absolutely nothing accurate about the actual restaurant. 4.7 Stars. Picking Nits: the counter-order setup is efficient, but it sets expectations in the wrong direction for the first 90 seconds, you brace for fast-casual and instead get something considerably more ambitious. Food comes out fast once you've ordered, which is great if you're hungry and slightly jarring if you wanted a slow, lingering dinner. And the Billy Madison naming is charming trivia but entirely misleading as a vibe preview, no complaints about the actual restaurant, just the branding expectations it sets. If The Blue Duck were a character: Ron Swanson. Hear me out. If Ron ate here, he'd be suspicious of the entire experience until his first bite of protein -- the counter ordering, the repurposed doors, a burger named after a fellow mustachioed American, all of it registering as potentially too clever. Then the Sam Elliott hits his plate, he takes one bite, and the skepticism dissolves into the quiet respect of a man who has found his people. Looks rustic. Has strong feelings about meat. Secretly sophisticated -- plays saxophone in a jazz club under a fake name, builds his own furniture, would 100% approve of the farm-chic decor once the protein has spoken. Presents as simple. Isn't.
