I've been coming here for years and I just love it. Everything is good and Sandra is the sweetest it's just her and her brother but they are awesome. I highly recommend their spring rolls. Very fresh and tasty! I got the beef rice noodle dish (they were out of pork) but it was a little too salty for my taste. I love it here! It's super affordable and convenient for me, but I keep coming back because of the service. The owners are so welcoming and they always remember me and ask about what's going on in my life. I rarely stray from my favorite (rice noodle soup with tofu and spring rolls), but whenever I have, it's been far from a disappointment. I have literally been in love with everything I've ordered here, especially the Thai iced tea. I feel like I could live off of this stuff. The lunch special is such a good deal and everything is always fresh and made to order. If you're in a hurry, I recommend calling in your order ahead of time because it's just two people working and can get a little busy. I've never waited an obscene amount of time but I can see how taking a lunch break from work could be a bit of an issue. Two people working a busy lunch is commendable, though! Hoosier Vietnamese food? This is exactly how you might imagine it. In general, everything tasted bland and not as flavorful and authentic as Vietnamese food should be! The whole time we were there, we heard the staff in the kitchen sick and coughing their lungs out every single minute. Didn't help that it took forever and 1000 coughs to finally get our food... We should have taken that as our first red flag. We ordered the spring rolls and egg rolls to start. Egg rolls were good. Spring rolls I really wanted to love, but they were wrapped so loosely everything was falling out onto the plate after one bite. And not to mention the sauce was so watered down. As for the hu tieu and dry pho noodles dishes, they were absolutely the worst we've had in Indy. I love hu tieu and usually get it just for the soup flavor but this dish tasted like water and some pepper for taste, with a hint of authentic flavoring! Literally tasted like instant. So bland. Even the provided veggies were clearly not fresh and I was served slightly wilted sprouts and basil. My poor mother was so unimpressed with the pho noodles, it seemed they were made so quickly and like a child could have made them. Tasted like ginger more than any noodle or beef--I couldn't eat them and my mom did her best to finish her meal. All in all, I'm very disappointed and I can't believe how long this location has been here. If you're looking for true authentic and delicious flavor, there are heaps of better places throughout Indy... will not be coming back here. read more

Super nice spot. Quiet. Went on a Friday night, it wasn't busy and super intimate setting. Really nice options, only thing I'd have to speak on is that we tried to order chicken wings that were in the menu and they were out. We ended up ordering pork steam buns but I think she brought us steamed dumplings? I ordered the beef Pho which was tasty, very rich broth and good broth to veggies/meat ratio. Its been a while since we went here but the food is still just as delicious as ever. The dining room is small and intimate. The colors are very zen and calm. Very tastefully decorated with tons of reviews and newspaper clippings that sing their victory going back years! We used to come here all the time. Almost weekly. But there is something that we learned. When you order here everything is made as fresh as possible. This quality and standard of food has a price beyond your wallet. it takes time to make it and to deliver it to your table. So while the food is still just as delicious as always it is time-consuming to get it. Generally, when we go in we are there about an hour and a half, the majority of that time waiting for the food to come out. So if you want to spend some time with your date, husband, wife, friend, companion, whoever in a lovely setting with plenty of time to talk and catch up, please go here to have some seriously amazing and flavorful food. We love Sandra's Rice and Noodles ! They have great ginger chicken ( my wife's favorite) and Rice beef noodle plus chicken pad Thai. But tecently we have been getting beef pho. It is excellent they serve it with large or tons of items you can mix together for your own taste and level of hotness / spiciness. Yumm! It is definitely authentic Vietnamese and Asian food As I said before portions are quite generous and prices are moderate. We usually get carry out and it is important to call ahead and have them tell your order will be ready there is often just 2 of them working. If you just stop by in a busy period around lunch and placed your carry out order at the restaurant you might have to wait for a lengthy period ( like 45-60 minutes). Vietnamese green tea is not the usual garden-variety, not a tea bag type, (probably because I've never had Vietnamese green tea, lol) and I suggest you try it if you've never had it...thumbs up for me. ...the meal I ordered off the lunch special menu (good deal), an entree (the sweet and sour chicken) and it came with soup and a spring roll. I was told when I ordered (that's a nice heads up) that it is not what people expect, not the typical. And it wasn't! There was none of the breaded nugget type of chicken, but instead, strips of chicken in a DELICIOUS sauce. My tip? Ask for it spicy if you like a little heat. It added just that oomph for me. The rest of the meal (the soup and roll came out first) was also tasty; while I enjoyed the soup, my friend really liked the spring rolls. The food is delicious. There aren't many good east side Asian restaurants and this place is now one of my favorites. We met the owner and talked to her for a while. Decent beef pho. The broth was delicious. Came with a side plate of basil, cilantro, mung bean sprouts, jalapeños & lime. They don't give you as much beef as other places do, and they're small little pieces. So that was kind of disappointing. The veggies could also have been a little fresher. We wanted to try the shrimp wontons but the owner said those were not available so we settled with the egg rolls (pictures) which were pretty good. I think they should consolidate their fairly extensive menu if some of the items aren't going to be available anyway. Ok...I'm very very picky about my Viet food. This place has some good points and some neg. Went home to visit the folks and took dad out. He's vegetarian. They were accommodating to him...but then again it could be 2 possible reasons for that, one...we're Viet and we can speak to them better...two...apparently as it turns out my uncle was really good friends with their mom! We order the spring roll, ca kho and canh chua ca. Ca kho was catfish in a nice pepper sauce. Canh chua ca is a great compliment to the previous dish. It's a soup that is sour and spicy. Loaded with celery, tomato, pineapple and beansprout. Was too sweet for my taste but still good. My dad had the veggie fried rice. They offer to make a veg curry but he wasn't in the mood. Here's the negative...for Viet food I thought it was rather pricey. But then again...the location is much closer for me. My sister told me about seeing this place a few times and wanted to try it out. As luck would have it (because we did NOT plan it), we had the opportunity to visit! Crazy enough, everyone who came in, they knew by name. Seriously, every other customer had been longtime patrons because well, I asked lol. Everything is made from scratch/to order. The ambiance is pretty chill - low lighting and majority 2-top sitting. There is enough room for those will special needs to maneuver & be comfortable. It is inexpensive & pricing properly reflects the dishes. It's in a strip mall so the parking isn't bad but you may not get a spot right in front of the door (but who cares, right?). While I still prefer King Woks pho, this place is neck and neck! Awesome visit. read more

Had the pho. We were the only ones at the restaurant, but we went there on a weekend when it was storming. The phone kept ringing and the server was taking pick up orders. I'm guessing if it hadn't been storming there'd be more in house satisfied customers, as I was. The food service and place were great and inviting it's a cozy warm place with low lighting. Big portions, my kids split a dish and was enough for the both of them. Spring rolls were good hot and crispy. I love this restaurant! One of my favorites in Indianapolis. Sometimes it gets busy, so the food may take a while but the service is always good and the food delicious. The server and cashier named Ha is always polite, even when busy. The best is that she always remembers my face. I don't do the lunch often, but the special is from 11-2 and is $6.99. There's a nice list of options too! Mostly chicken. On this visit I tried the Ginger Chicken meal. Each selection comes with a cup of chicken and rice soup and a spring roll. The meal itself came, nicely presented and hot. For a lunch choice, it was very filling! Yellow and red peppers, onions and rice with the perfectly seasoned chicken. Delish. This is a small locally owned restaurant located in the Pendleton Pike area. It is owned by brother and sister and they are the sweetest people ever. They make all of their food fresh to order and they really know how to make some good ass PHO!!! If you do not know what PHO is, It is a Vietnamese soup that can either be a base of chicken or beef broth. I usually get the beef PHO and that comes with thin sliced beef, rice noodles in beef broth served with bean sprouts, pepper, chili (siracha) and hoisin sauce. My boyfriend got me into PHO when it was really cold outside and we wanted something hot and comforting. The broth is just delicious, and definitely hits the spot when you are trying to recover from a hangover. The portions are huge so if you are getting PHO, one order will fill you up and you just might have some broth left over. I joined the International Supper Club with my daughter on my first visit to Sandra Rice and Noodles. Alex hosts some really great dinners, and I really really wanted to like it, but outside of the 'experience and dynamic company', I just can't say that I did. Dinner was supposed to start at 7, and although we were a little late, we didn't get food until close to 8pm. By that time, most of us had only water and were starved. Our first 'dish' served was a fish with bones in served 'family style' that was supposed to feed about 10 of us. Perhaps this works in Bible stories, but not under these circumstances. Our next dish served was a platter of crab, too small to get anything out of it and too messy without the assistance of anything to crack the shell or pick out the meat. What little bits I got were good. Next came the rice and noodles, and then vegetables with mint. Most of this was to go in a pot for us to cook with fish and shrimp. I ate what we had, but can't say that I loved any of it. It was messy, a lot of work and pretty salty. In their defense, we were served 'off the menu', so I'm not sure it was a good representation of their offerings. The owner was very nice and the conversation in our group was good. I had fun sharing the experience with my teen, with a different country being represented with each face around our table. I could close my eyes and pretend I was back in Vietnam... but with really good air conditioning. There is a fair amount on Thai dishes on the menu if that is more your taste. The chicken lettuce wraps were standard and good. My fish was freshly fried, lightly coated and crispy, covered in a flavorful slightly spicy sauce, rice was fresh and sticky, and served with a really nicely seasoned side of baby bok choy and carrots that could have stood on their own. My friend ordered the combo bun (cold noodle dish) which came with an impressive array of grilled meats and dipping sauce made the right way: strong fragrant and smelling of pungent fish sauce. Delicious food, nice staff and clean restaurant. Just a few of my favorite things :) The front desk person is always so nice and accomodating whenever I come here or even if I order on the phone. I almost all the time just carry out stuff and haven't had a problem with my orders. The few times I've dined in, I came with my kids who can be kind of loud sometimes. Thankfully, no other customers happen to be there when they do that but the staff are always so nice and try to talk to my kids and make them smile. The kids meal portion are large and surprisingly taste good as well. Of course, the pho and the rest of the menu taste delicious! They do have a website but not all the food in the website menu is available to order just fyi. It takes a while too sometimes when you dine in so make sure to allot plenty of time.
