I'm conflicted about this place. The food is great, the staff is friendly, but dang...it took forever to get the food.

Went to the new location last month. Wasn't impressed at all. Took forever to get our food. Some of our food was cold. Food was not how we remembered it at the old place. Asked our waitress twice for straws. Finally had our nine year old son go up to the front counter to get us one off of the display case. Saw several people get up and leave because food was coming out very slowly. Personally I like the old location better. It was quaint and service was always amazing. New place is too spread out without enough waiters and waitresses. We will give it another try in a couple months. Hope it's better next time. Loved Sandy's in the past. Hope they can get to back like the food and service was before they moved. read more

This is a great little place if you're in the mood for breakfast at lunch time. I changed my mind when I saw mostly tenderloins being delivered to table after table. It was pretty good. I loved the breading it needed just a tad bit more salt but other than that it was good. I also got onion rings which were crunchy and good. They are not beer battered. My friend got the chicken fried steak and potatoes. She said the potatoes were instant and tasted like cafeteria food but the gravy was good. She also wished for more chocolate in her milk. It was very busy and a bit congested at the doorway with in and out traffic, pick up orders and the kitchen door right next to the entrance. Still great food once it gets to ya. A little slow. I had the tenderloin with onion rings. Tenderloin was big but not humongous and it was hot but the onion rings were not. And the onion rings seem to either fried in shallow oil or no one flipped them because one side was not cooked while the other was burned. The story of this place being slow and delivering the correct orders is still true, sadly. The table next to us had their orders all messed up but it was fixed in the end. Ya gotta weigh the place out as far as to are you patient? If so this is a wonderful place. If not well you may not like it. I am patient so I like Sandy's. I also love the salad bar. read more

Worst service ever! I walked in with my family and was immediately seated. We waited patiently for 25 min. No one from the wait staff ever approached us for a drink order or even to acknowledge our presence. A women who appeared to be the manager (only employee in a blue shirt) walked around and asked a few tables if everything was ok. Her and I made eye contact but she never approached my table to ask the same question. She then approached an employee hanging around by what appeared to be a breakfast bar and asked him to grab a table. His response was to point out what tables belonged to him. He made it a point to point out that we weren't his table. I then see a couple walk in after us who was immediately seated and immediately serviced. This really upset me. So, after being ignored for 25min by everyone in the establishment and hearing the staff fight over who was going to serve us. My family and I walked out. I will never return to this place ever! read more

We waited a long time to before anyone came to our table after we were seated. The food took way to long and was just okay. As long as we waited it should have been hot but it was not. BUT the main reason we will not be back is our waiter wear her mask under her chin not covering her mouth or nose. Mask requirement is not be enforced properly. read more

This is a weirdly dive-like space in a forgotten strip mall which sits in the middle of what I would affectionately call nowhere. I'd most likely never have known it existed at all but for happening to be nearby with my grandpa, who knew it as having previously been Beth's or Ruth's or something, I forget. In any case, he swore by the tenderloins, which, as far as I'm concerned, might as well be a giant red homing beacon floating over the place's roof. So, yeah. The tenderloin. On gramps's suggestion, I tried it. I got the sandwich. He got the "hot" version, which is a sort-of hot brown, open-faced thing slathered in a criminal amount of gravy. Taking one look at the sandwich, I said the only words which could properly express how I was feeling, which were, "Holy shit!" There was a continent of tenderloin somehow balanced between two postage stamp buns. Gramps's plate was even more intimidating with that gallon of cream gravy. I admit, I was initially envious and wished I'd ordered the same, but the sandwich proved more than my match. The tenderloin is an absolute monster. A delicious, golden brown monster. The service was fine, the food kinda came out slow but the place was pretty well hoppin' on this Saturday morning, so no problems there. Seems to be rather well-deservedly popular with the locals, and more than one group of customers were referred to by name. The clientele were rather friendly, too; a random stranger engaged us in a brief but entirely pleasant conversation about turkey hunting as he herded his family toward the door. Sandy's is very proud of their prices, I don't mind paying for food that's good however I ordered waffles, they served me 2-2" waffles that was served with more butter and syrup than there was waffle, I had to ask if I ordered off the children's menu and was told, no that's their normal portion. We ordered waffles, a burger and a 1/2 order of biscuits & gravy, 3 beverages were 50.00, I went in hungry and left hungry. The dining room feels like an extension of some little old lady's house. With paneled walls and holstein cow images at every turn, you can't help but suddenly feel at home. On the menu you'll find your typical homestyle fair: meatloaf, fried chicken, chicken fried steak, pork tenderloin, and hot beef sandwiches...all with traditional comfort foodie sides: mashed potatoes, corn, and green beans. The restaurant runs daily specials which are generally the reason our family goes! Friday nights you can order salmon patties and last Saturday we chowed down on all you can eat shrimp. It's not uncommon to see single diners here enjoying their lunch break. I've done this a few times myself! And it's a great place to go with friends and family. We took a party of 14 in and they found seating, kept our glasses full, and got the order done accurately. The staff treat everyone like their one of the family and if you don't mind terms of endearment then you're in the right place. They serve old fashioned pies, cakes, and every now and again there are special deserts such as gourmet cupcakes and cookies. It's not contemporary and that's the best part about it! I miss Grandma and this is as close as it gets to filling the place she left behind. My family loves Sandy's! Give it a try, you know you want to! read more

My husband & I stopped in for breakfast last Saturday. We sat, without any beverages, for over a half an hour before our waitress even showed up. This same thing happened a year ago. Their food is very good but I don't know how they won small business award last year just due to this issue. Unless you want to waste all morning waiting, go ahead and stop in. read more

My husband and I went for breakfast. We had never been to the new location and will not go back. Our meals don't deserve even a 1 star. I ordered French toast and my husband ordered biscuits and gravy. The French toast was barely warm, made with regular bread, not Texas toast, served with a small bowl of syrup. The gravy was so full of pepper my husband's mouth was burning. Prices are outrageous. You get better food at McDonald's. read more

We've been there a several times. Both for dinner and breakfast. Food is good home style cooking. Service is great but the food is slow to come. My only complaint is that it cold in the restaurant. I believe part of the problem is every time the door opens it lets in a flood of cold air. The food comes luke warm to cold. We feel we have to eat fast before it gets any colder. I have sent food back on almost every visit. Seriously my mashed potatoes were refrigerator cold. If they fix the temperature problems, with the room and the food, this would be a 5 star. read more

Staff is friendly, but the food is nothing special. The restaurant was a little cold and even though the sign says "cooked to order", my son received cold boiled eggs. In addition, the cheese used on the omelettes is the kind of cheese that comes in a plastic wrap. Food was really good once we got it.. took an extremely LONG time to get our food and most of our orders were incorrect- things were missing, orders were incorrect, had to ask for water and soda refills. We sat for a good 20 minutes before anyone mentioned the salad bar was included with the dinner meals. We're a very down to earth have fun group of people so we never complained, but we were disappointed. We'll come back though! read more

My wife and I have eaten at Sandy's many times and we have never had a bad meal. Their breakfast is awesome. If you order pancakes bring an appetite because they are enormous. Their biscuits and gravy are awesome. Don't worry about your coffee cup going dry.... it won't ever get close. Our server was back every two minutes to "see if we needed a warm up", and that is a big deal with me. If you go for lunch or dinner, do yourself a favor and try their tenderloin sandwich and onion rings or their fried chicken. Their staff is always very friendly and welcoming. I would have to say this place has the best and largest pork tenderloin in the kc area. The restaurant features a menu of home cooked meals. While the restaurant is small, they do put out quality cooked home style meals to order. So with that being said dont think u can get in and out in 30 mins bc the cooks make everything to order. The chicken strips were really good! You could tell they were hand-dipped! The roll that came with dinner was also delicious and home-made. However, the green beans, gravy, garlic bread and vegetable beef soup definitely did not taste home-made. Our waitress was very kind! She informed us Friday's were FREE pie nights which was a great surprise! Overall, good experience and good food with a homey feel. read more

Poor slow service. Taking over 30 minutes to get food. Hash browns were very undercooked soggy yet the corned Bren was burned and tasted nasty. Forgot to get toast and had to wait for 10 more minutes to get waitress attention. They have potential but they are pathetic managing. read more

An old diner/ dive that could use a coat of fresh paint.... but the kitchen doesn't need any help at all!!! The wait staff is the worst in the planet!! Constantly waiting on the wait staff for food; tickets anything. And they constantly forget to bring drinks; tickets and food But the kitchen makes up for it. It's not fast food but it's all cooked to order and freshly prepared! I love the beer battered gizzards! But tonight I had a burger.....a work of art!!! Over a lb of meat! Swiss cheese; mushrooms and bacon!!! I ordered a double cheese made up as a mushroom Swiss w/ onion rings.. the burger was a lil over cooked but juicy, flavorful and delicious!!! Will be getting many more. Every third fri is free pie night also!!! Returned yesterday for burgers: this place has the worst wait staff ever and the cook is even worst!!! How freaking hard is it to cook 4 burgers?!?! Apparently too hard for this crew! First the waiter got the orders wrong, then all of them were over cooked!!! Why bothering asking temperature if you cannot cook it that way!!! They need to clean house and get a better staff here read more

There's nothing more comfortable than a hometown diner, and Sandy's has the added bonus of fantastic food. Breakfast is their jam.

Just tried Sandy's for the first (and hopefully last) time. The positives: 1. Staff was very friendly. 2. Convenient location. 3. Gravy was better than average. The problems: 1. Almost all of the food was simply horrible. a. Chicken fried steak - the meat was extremely tough. My ten year old son couldn't cut it, even with the provided serrated knife. I could barely cut it. The meat wasn't seasons in any appreciable manner. So both tough and bland. The crust was ok and the best part of the steak, but my son didn't like the amount of gravy poured on top, so he didn't eat any of the crust. He ate a few bites, the rest will go to the dog. Basically, a waste of $11. b. Cheeseburger - extremely dry. No moisture at all. Simply dry, unseasoned beef. Bun was too large and the almost transparently thin cheese slice only covered the center of the patty. Burger vegetables were good, though I didn't receive the pickles that were supposed to come with it. I had to add a lot of mayo and salt just to be able to eat it. Otherwise, it was simply too dry to eat. Considering that this burger was ~$8.00 with fries, and was far less pleasant than a couple of Wendy's jr. cheese delux burgers at ~$1.50 each, I'd say this burger was essentially a waste of $5, but in reality, it was really a waste of the entire purchase price because it just wasn't pleasant to eat. c. Sides - mashed potatoes were a nice consistency but had zero flavor or seasoning. Someone didn't even bother to follow the recipe on the potato mix box. Corn was overcooked (or held too long) and had zero seasoning. Waffle fries were good, but unremarkable. Possibly lightly salted. Texas toast was "buttered" with some sort of butter flavored sauce. That was very obviously rancid. My ten year old loves buttered white bread. He spit out the first bite and said it was "sour". I tasted it and immediately recognized the taste and mouth smell as rancid oil. 2. Service - mediocre. We had to ask for assistance walking in the door. Busboy promptly took our drink order. Waitress was friendly, but our drink glasses were empty more than they were full. Time to receive food was at the longer end of acceptable (15-20 minutes). CONCLUSIONN - I really wanted to like this place. When my job takes me to rural Missouri, one of my pleasures if finding the good local burger joints and diners. Some are better than others, of course, but I enjoy the small, independent feel and the no-nonsense basic food most do well enough. In the city, I'm a huge fan of Haye's in the northland. Downtown, I enjoy Town Topic, though not as much as Hayes. In Liberty, Ginger Sue's is a gem for lunch (I've not had the breakfast). So while recognizing that perhaps Sandy's does a competent breakfast (I haven't tried it), and that the gravy was above average, I cannot see myself every returning for lunch or dinner. $25 for two people and the food was barely edible. I just love it. I had the reuben and waffle fries (...at 9am, yes. Because I'm weird.). Both were awesome. My husband had eggs, bacon, hash browns, and a biscuit with gravy. He said his breakfast was fine. I stole a bite of his biscuit and thought it was great! It's nothing spectacular, and I think that's why I love it. It's comfy and homey, and the service is friendly. It's one of those places you can wear your pajamas to the morning after a long night out, but you can also take your kids, have great food, and a relaxing time. read more

Finally got a chance to drop in last Sunday for breakfast and our food was delicious! My friend had chicken fried steak with eggs and potatoes and that thing was bigger than my face! I got to try it and it was tender, juicy, delicious fried heaven I ordered an omelette with ham & bacon (meat lover minus sausage) and was completely impressed with how tasty it was! Both meals were hard to finish so the portions are generous and to top that off with attentive service, coffee refills and friendly staff! We decided to go eat breakfast at sandys this morning and the waitress took our order. My husband told me to look behind me and on the high chair had a cockroach on it!! So we told the waitress and she went and got a napkin and kill it. So here is the kicker! They charged us full price for our meal! I was just going to let it slide for being such a dive but when someone tells you that they see a roach you sould never make them pay full price for your meal! Gross! Great food! Pretty much have been there and have tried at least half the menu. The staff is great. What I really like is how much they support the community. They sponsor all kinds of sports for kids. They also do fund raisers for all kinds of organizations. We go there guide often . read more

I went into Sandys this morning decided to try the New location. The Bacon Spinach Swiss omelette was so DRY I did not want to eat it. And where's the bacon? I opened it and very little. Ate the hash browns and left. I offered to pay for the hash browns and I did pay for them. As a employee or mgmt I would have comped the entire meal. JS. I won't go back. My 1st time there today. I got the open faced hot sandwich tenderloin comes with mashed potatoes and gravy. It it was the best thing I've ever eaten. If you're on a diet forget about it. But if you need some good old fashioned home cooking comfort food that was it. And you can't beat the prices. In the service was great and I will be back over and over.
