A super cute old-school family-friendly beer&burger bar. They have new owners but the guys are keeping Sandy's Sandy's. True, it's not just 3.2 brew and they even take credit cards now! They will have beer and wine in a couple weeks when the guys get the new license. My lunch was inexpensive (OK, the temporary lack of beer helped) and the olive burger rocked. Next time I'll try one of the Sandy's burgers. They have a huge parking lot, a bit of a rarity in this area. Give them a go! read more

Alrighty now, this little dive is awesome if your looking for a for sure whole in the wall that basicly the locals know about. Small and gets crowded fast. I looked at the menu online before going so knew what i wanted before going. I got there and first thing i saw were pictures of other food items...yum yum. I got the liaded tots and amazing to say the least. Then got the pork tenderloin (coming from iowa and Missouri not what i was use to) but good anyway. Gross worst meal ever. 50.00 for two grease soaked burgers. The burgers are frozen patties and are nasty. The bread was soaked with grease. They gave Three hamburger pickles with burger. Also had an order of tator tots and chicken wings. Couldn't eat any of it. They were black with grease and burnt. Complained to the waitress and she said sorry and walked away. Decided to try this place again. It is just as bad as it was last year. Went home hungry and 50.00 less in my pocket. I have no ideas how their ratings can be 4.5????? read more

Yelp roulette brought me to Sandy's Tavern in Richfield, MN on Monday night and I felt like I won that spin. Sandy's is quirky fun with good food, cold beer, great prices, a divey atmosphere, and awesome employees. There's a very helpful sign on the entrance that lets customers know that Sandy's is a cash only place with an ATM inside. Especially fun was the Trivia game that starts at 7:30 PM every Monday. Pay $1 to be in the game and join the regulars. Kevin, the bartender, creates the questions and runs the event. There are 5 rounds with 5 questions each, special rules (which Kevin explains), and a chance to use a "Help Line". Adam (aka Monkey), a once regular who now works there, helps out in many ways while the game is on. AND, winners actually win something like a pitcher of beer. Kevin and Adam like to entertain the customers with their banter and everybody in the place was very friendly. I stayed longer than I meant to because of the atmosphere. No regrets. I ordered a cheeseburger that came with pickles on the side and had a perfectly toasted bun and cheese melted just right. The tots being delivered looked like they would be great too. And the smell of the mini-donuts wafting past me as they were delivered to the table made me want to order my own. I'm not sure how I resisted. I'll be back for the olive burger and $2.50 cold Coors light on draft. read more

During my search for a local joint who would brave the crowds and air a Packer game, I found this little gem. I started my search closer to my house, and after failing at the 'higher end' places, I turned to yelp to find a divey place. In Milwaukee it seems normal to indulge in a few libations by yourself in the middle of the day, and I found myself getting a few strange looks around here - until getting to Sandy's. I walked out of the sunshine and into the dimly lit, musty little place, and instantly felt at home. I was greeted promptly, and took a place a the bar. Another couple came in soon after me and we chatted for a while. The tap selection is nothing to write home about, but that's the point of places like these - go for a Grain Belt or a Coors, stay for the company. As the other people started to filter in a out, the bartender and I got to talking. She talked me into a burger, even though I wasn't too hungry. I got a cheeseburger with sauerkraut and olives, which was their recommendation. It was really great! It reminded me a lot of Lion's Tap or the late Andy's Tap. I opted for the tater tots as a side, and they were phenomenal. I ended up eating every last bite. Several grain belts later I had to bid farewell toy my new friends at Sandy's but I will be back as soon as I'm back in town. read more

Good: tasty burgers, my friend liked his olive burger quite a bit. Had Amber Bock on tap which doesn't happen a lot. Cool little bar with trivia. Bad: burgers aren't very big so even though they're cheap you may need two. They don't take credit cards so you need to BRING CASH. I didn't want to leave my friend while I went to the bank so I basically added $5 in bank fees to my total. Ugly: word of warning: DONT ORDER TATER TOTS. $5 later, about 20 tater tots show up to the table. I asked the waiter guy if it was $5 and he said yes. I asked him if that's all I get for $5 and he shrugs his shoulders and goes back to work. This bar is so low key, I wouldn't have noticed it if I hadn't been looking for it. I visited here with my brother for a belated birthday dinner. We used to go to a place in West Bloomington named Andy's Tap and wanted to try to resurrect that simple dining, side bar vibe, so he suggested Sandy's. I didn't know it was a beer only bar and wanted something with bacon so I tried to order a vodka soda and was corrected since there is no hard liquor in this place and was also told the BLT isn't great so went with a bacon cheese burger. I'm not sure how you can make a bad BLT, but I trusted the guy. Our server was very attentive until we wanted to leave. He may very well have been one of two people working so we understood why we had to wait. Overall, the server was kind, we found a spot to sit (no waiting which was lucky) and the burger and fries were good. I would go here again :) read more

This is exactly the kind of bar with a small-town feel that I love to visit. In other words: it's like a neighborhood dive bar but doesn't have the horrible dirt and grime of some dive bars. Although the bathroom is a basement water closet. This place has a nice pool table and juke box, comfy booths, TVs, etc. Most importantly Sandy's has good food, of which they don't blush to boast. The burger I had was the Sandy's Sizzler which had a chipotle mayo and diced-up jalapenos. The burger was slightly over-done, but no biggie because the patties are thin. The bun may have been slightly over-toasted as well, but it was still mighty good. The fries were decent, they give you a good portion of crinkle-cut fries for $3. Sandy's is a little overpriced though, with a $5 basket of tater tots...my girlfriend ordered that and it couldn't have been more than 50 cents worth of tots. Just a bit of a shame that they try to rip you on stuff like that. Plus a MGD bottle was like four bucks with pretty much zero craft beer options. You can get a mug of piss like Michelob for $2.50 or a pitcher for about $9. I suppose the menu makes more sense if you go in groups of three or four or more, wherein you share the apps and pitchers of beer and therefore it's really affordable. The burgers aren't expensive. The Sizzler was $6 on its own, which isn't unreasonable. I think the median burger price was around $5. Not a problem there. I really like the feel of this place and our server/bartender was cool. I would return and get more burgers, but I feel they should look at some of their prices. People love places like Sandy's, so you don't want them walking away wondering why you're charging so much for tater tots that are presumably out of a frozen bag, and cheap domestics. MGD should be like $3.00 a bottle, tops, not $3.75, that adds up to a bit too much. I'd rather pay $5 a pint for Summit EPA than overpay for swill. Cash or personal check only. read more

I wanted something very simple, and not stuff myself for a 7PM meeting. I was welcomed immediately, and they were so happy it was my first visit. I asked for recommendations because I didn't read the Yelp reviews. I just wasn't prepared for an olive burger. I got the regular cheeseburger, that the chef brought out to me. The toasted bun with a simple, thin burger was so delicious that the only thing I added were the thin dill pickles that I love. There's so much more I want to come back for. Green olives included. I'm just not a fan, but I've never done the trivia night, so maybe that would change my mind. It's a dive bar with an interior of knotty wood and raise wood floor covered with cheap carpet. The food burns a hole in your stomach via the grease and salt, and you'll leave smelling like fried food. The people there are hilarious though, so go for the characters if you go at all. read more

I was here with a guest on a Saturday night. The place was dead, but we weren't there for the ambiance. We were there for great, cheap bar food, which is what my fellow Yelpers promised us. Sandy's delivered. The place feels more like something you'd find in the northwoods than in the metro, but that's part of it's charm. It checks the dive bar box without feeling divey - things are dated but still clean and well-kept. I was not afraid to use the restroom and didn't feel like I had to shower when I got home. The food was quite good. The menu is small - I doubt the kitchen is much more than a griddle and a deep fryer. But what they serve up is flavorful and predictable. Predictable in a good way - I ordered a bacon cheeseburger and got what I asked for. No funny business, no frou-frou aiolis or wacky toppings. I asked what came on it and the bartender/server said dryly, "it comes as advertised. Bacon and cheese." They'll throw some other stuff on there but only if you ask. As for the burger, it's like a better, butterier version of what you'd find at Culver's. Just good, solid food. It's not some pretentious $14 creation you'll find at Red Cow, but it's not trying to be. My guest raved about her fish sandwich. Again, not exotic but reasonably priced and well prepared. Tots were excellent, fries were meh. Staff was friendly and the Blackhawks won. What a great old school bar, it reminded me of the many dingy haunts I have drank in in WI or Anoka. Full of regulars, cheap beer, pool tables, curtains over the windows and hella good burgers. This is the type of place that grills their buns perfectly, with a light sheen of butter on top that is not too greasy. They serve huge baskets of crinkle cut fries with their burgers. NOT FAMILY FRIENDLY AT ALL! I know, it's a bar. What can you really expect when bringing your family there. BUT, we used to love this place before kids and every time we went after having kids it became increasingly clear that we were no longer welcome there with kids. We only took the kids there on a weekend during the middle of the afternoon, often there was only one other couple there. And it seemed like every time we went the service got worse, we were ignored while the other people there without kids got way more attention. My kids never screamed or threw a fit in the restaurant so I know it wasn't that. Last time our server was just downright rude to us and we refuse to go back. No frills, reasonable eats, cheap drinks. I love dive bars, and Sandy's is a nice specimen. I initially walked in thinking it was a neighborhood bar and grill. Indeed there is a bar and probably is a grill, but this is a classic dive. No need for happy hour because drinks are only a few bucks. There is barely even a need for a menu since there isn't much to choose from. But what they do offer is very good. My mushroom and Swiss cheeseburger was way better than expected. My only suggestion to Sandy's would be to provide something, anything as a side that isn't deep fried. Very slow service despite not much of a crowd there...brought us our drinks fairly quickly but took forever to get them to take our food order...got our burger orders reversed and we were each several bites in before we realized it...ordered another burger to go w/o mayo and asked them to bring us another round of drinks while we waited...15 minutes later they brought us both the round of drinks (and handed those to the wrong persons as well) and the sack with the burger to go which sat there getting cold while we had to finish those drinks...got the burger home and went to warm it up in the microwave for my wife's son, and...you guessed it....had mayo on it (microwaved Mayo tastes WONDERFUL I might add). read more

Went in for the first time and ordered a burger mid-week. The environment is clean, pub-like and decor is quite appropriate. Aside from the waitress having issues getting the order right, the food was excellent. The bun is toasty and the beef has great flavor. Sandy's was another place from my hometown that I'd go to with my family alot when we'd go out. If I was reviewing them then I woulda gave them 5 stars because the burgers were great. I don't think they come anything close to what they used to be, its still not a bad place to go for a bite to eat, but unless they bring back the original recipe I don't think the food is worth going out of your way for. One thing that they still have is a very unique atmosphere, and me who loves antiques really likes the old 30's/ 40's roadhouse tavern decor. Its authentic too because this place has been here so long that it was actually at one time in the country, so it has the ability to get your imagination going as to what the Richfield of the past was like. Its also a good place to come and shoot a game of pool. Another thing I should mention is that Sandy's is haunted. Sandy, a guy named Sandy the original owner dropped dead of a heart attack behind the bar, I believe sometime in the late 40's or early 50's, and haunts the building to this day. Level headed customers have reported seeing a ghost in the basement, as well as strange things happening in the bar area, and no it's not because they're drunk Sandy's only serves 3.2 beer. read more

Came here on a Friday evening at around 7:00. The place was nearly empty except for us - this concerned me. We walked in, were greeted, and sat down immediately next to some of the most absurd 70s-esque decor in recent memory. The curtains and wallpaper are utterly ridiculous. There was a faint smell of stale smoke in the bar - I'm guessing this was a haven before the smoking ban, and hasn't probably been fumigated as much as it should be. The food and beer were good, and relatively cheap. This could be a good bar to get drunk in, but if I'm looking for burgers I'm still likely to head to the Nook. I had the bacon cheeseburger. The cheese curds were excellent and lightly hand-battered, and the fries were delicious. The sides were the star of the show. Would I go back? Yes. This would be a decent place to eat dinner and then drink a dozen or so pitchers of beer, but if I'm looking for a meal alone I'm probably looking elsewhere. read more

This place defines what a hole in the wall joint should be. It's ratty, it's dark, the beer is cheap, the food is good and the staff is as friendly and personable as they come. They may not always be packed, but you can almost always find the regulars sitting at the bar chatting away. Summit is on tap and the pitchers are cheaper than you can find anywhere else. Love this place - it's where we get our "Wisconsin bar burger" fix without leaving town. Burgers are solid, savory bar-griddle burgers on good white buns (perfect cross between substantial and squishy) served on wax paper in lil' plastic baskets. I love that you can get grilled onions on the burgers. They also do good variations like a crazy olive burger, etc. The place kind of looks like a dive in a charming way that reminds me of the backwoods WI bars of my childhood...plus I think we had the same brown-woven-polyester curtains in the house where I grew up! Huge nostalgia factor. Sides are ordered separately but totally worth it for the deep-fried goodness - batter-coated cheese curds (white rather than yellow cheese, if that matters to you), awesome onion rings and tater tots for tot fans. Beer comes in frosty mugs ala vintage A&W.
