They forgot the extract one of my wisdom tooth, Had to go through another procedure when my dental office contacted them because they were shocked to find they did not remove one for some reason(it was their referral). The original dental office agreed to give me a discount due to this, this ended up pushing everything back and I was not too happy as you would know since it's not a pleasant few months after the extraction surgery is complete. Went back a few times due to excruciating pain during healing, was taken care of quick and they were at least accommodating. Imagine if this was another procedure, and they simply "forgot" to do a procedure. Maybe there were miscommunication, procedures were professional and painless due to anesthesia. This is not the dr to see if you have terrible dental phobia! I was already scared out of my mind at the thought of having my wisdom teeth out and this visit made it a million times worse. I'm sure his work is good but he didn't seem to grasp how scared I was and had me watch this video about the removal process which made things so much worse. He took 5 sec to look at my teeth and said oh ya not enough room.. that wasn't even the issue! I've had my wisdom teeth in for 20 years it's just that they are getting a lot of cavities so my dentist said it was time to talk about getting them out. I was literally in tears leaving the office. Dr. Ratner, Wilson & Tran's office failed to bill our HMO insurance despite being provided the insurance card at our first visit. After the surgery we were billed by the office. When I inquired as to why we were being billed - I was told by their office that the insurance denied the claim. After contacting the insurance Blue Shield told me they were never billed! It was a lie on the office part to cover up their mistake. This office will attempt to bill as of today, but it will probably be denied because they failed to get a pre authorization or bill our insurance at the time. I asked the office for a refund since they made the mistake. The office manager (Zee) told me all the office checks are processed out of India through a corporation called USOSM in Texas. I asked for the corporate office number and was told I can not call them. We were victimized by Dr. Ratner, Wilson & Tran office staff incompetence. I will say Dr. Tran is an excellent surgeon and we were very pleased with her professionalism and care for our daughter. read more

Dr Ratner was recommended by colleagues (I am a medical professional) so I went in with expectations that I would be met with good care. I came in for a wisdom teeth consultation; it was a second opinion because I just wanted to be sure about my wisdom teeth decisions. He looked at my x ray and told me my wisdom teeth had to go. He did not even look in my mouth. He rudely said to me that it was clear that I did not want to follow his recommendations of removing my wisdom teeth and that I would suffer the consequences of such, although I simply asked for a clear explanation of why my wisdom teeth had to go. The duration of my appointment time with him was probably less than 5 minutes. He has terrible bedside manner. His dismissive attitude made me realize that if I had any complications whatsoever from wisdom teeth removal, he would certainly be just as dismissive of me if not moreso. This consultation made me greatly appreciate the kindness, compassion and clear explanation that my original oral surgeon consultation (Dr Jeffrey Nguyen in Irvine) offered me. I will definitely be returning to Dr Nguyen for my procedure instead! I was just shocked how rude Dr Ratner was when I met him. If I could hive zero stars I would. The Doctors Ratner and Tran are nice and undoubtedly competent but the offices (2) are dysfunctional. I drove there at least 5 times in preparation of my daughters oral surgery to be done when school was out for the summer. First we saw Ratner who said my daughter did NOT need bone grafting for preparation for implants. Then Sally submitted for a prior authorization with bone grafts. I inquired why he said one thing and the auth something else. She got shitty with me from then on. All I asked for respectfully was an explanation. Sally told me it would be so much work for them to take equipment to the hospital to do my kids procedure and acted like she didn't want the Dr to be bothered with it. I called my kids endocrinologist to see if her procedures could be done there she gave me specific instructions said yes and I informed Sally. She said she would talk to Dr Tran as Dr Ratner was no longer an option to do my kids treatment. We drove from Riverside yet again to see Dr Tran . Dr Tran said they'd get her scheduled sent a rx for pain meds and antibiotics to our pharmacy which we have! She never got scheduled I called Sally who said yeah we aren't treating your child we are busy. I said does this have to do with the fact my child has high functioning autism? She denied that but said Dr Tran is busy . Needless to say the medical ethics of this office is questionable. Sally is not nice and parents of children with ANY special needs should run fast and far! I have been a pediatric RN for over 30 years have adopted 3 special needs children, regularly go to CHLA, CHOC, Loma Linda and Cedars Sinai consistently and have never ever been treated like this! Them messing with us delayed my daughters dental care and kept her from getting her implants before she's in her sisters wedding. Shame on them. PAIN FREE, no swelling and fast recovery so far! I've been putting off getting my 4 wisdom teeth pulled 10+ years and was only forced to because I was getting really bad headaches(impacted wisdom tooth) I could no longer tolerate. But after my interaction with Dr Tran, I had the complete confidence and trust in her to get it done. She was really knowledgeable, professional and her kindness and friendliness really put me at ease. I just got THE FOUR pulled out today(8/6)!! The whole process took 30 minutes. It felt more like 3 minutes being sedated. No joke! They will hook you up to a heart rate monitor(sticky circles with cords), blood pressure cuff and IV so wear a low cut, short sleeve and loose fitting top. When you wake up your completely confused..."They did take a nap? Did I drool? Did they already take them out? What time is it? Where are they taking me now? What happened?!" So weird! The actual process was so quick and groggy, I don't really remember much and I don't know what to say but...DANG, why did I wait so long?!?! After the surgery they take you to a recovery room where your guest is welcome to wait with you while you get your bearings back. Dr Tran checked on me 3x and last one she took out the gauze and checked the cavities (holes) and once cleared she helped put new gauze in and walked us out. Post Op Care: I drank a protein shake with meds(fill it before hand) as soon as I got home and I iced(but before hand) 20 minutes on and off the whole time until now (12:03pm) and took meds on the clock with a protein shake. Dr Tran recommended eating food before meds so you don't get nauseous. I switched out gauze(cool and wet) every hour the first 2 times and I was still bleeding. The 3rd and 4th time, I switched it with tea bag (black tea, cool, wet, no need to brew, one on each side, bite firmly). After 4 hours the bleeding stopped and I was done. Dr Tran even called in the evening to check on me. The whole day today, including getting pricked by a needle(I'm afraid of needles), was completely pain-free and when I got home I was pretty much back on my feet doing the usual(avoid any strenuous activity for now) cooking dinner, washing dishes, laundry, bathroom, shower, watering plants, taking out trash, walking around the house and yard and going up and down stairs. I was tempted to go for a run if it wasn't for the ice pack wrapped around my head. Pretty much back to normal!!! It's amazing! I really should have done it sooner! With the easiness of recovery so far I don't see tomorrow (ppl say it's the worst) being an issue. I'm so happy with the results today and I definitely recommend Dr Tran! I look forward to my follow up appt next week with her. They take Delta Dental. Only 3 issues(Orange location): 1. Appointments start late. I arrived 20-30 minutes early and both consultation and surgery appointments started late by at least 30minutes. As a person that is terrified(childhood trauma) of going to the dentist and needles, those extra minutes waiting....really starts to take a mental toll when your trying to focus on slow, deep breaths and stay calm and resisting the urge to and run out the door screaming. 2. With covid19, they should have had patients fill paper work in the office (It's a lot of info. submit online) and submit and then wait in the car and called us in (our pediatric dentist does this) when they we're ready. The waiting room was small and filled up with quite a few people(not 6ft apart). *Especially with the long wait.* 3. Confirm X-ray is on file before patient's consultation. My original appt was the first week of March. I called my dentist and told them to send my X-rays. Second week of March, I canceled appt due to covid. I assumed they had had my X-ray on file. Three weeks ago, I rescheduled my consultation appt for last week and it wasn't until half way during consultation they realized they didn't have a copy of my X-ray. So the receptionist called and waited for my dentist to send over the xrays with no luck. After 40 minutes of waiting, Dr Tran generously offered a free X-ray. Bless her heart. Remedy: The reception should have physically checked for the X-ray in my file before my consultation at least the day before or morning off. It was such a waste of time for us and the doctor. If they had checked and let me know there was no X-ray on file, I would have picked up the X-ray myself or asked my dentist to send it again before the appointment. An easy fix. Even with my minor complaints....Dr Tran would still be my go-to for future oral surgery if need be. I won't wait 10+ years this time. read more

I am so grateful for Dr Ratner, I am honestly surprised to see some of the negative Yelp reviews. My daughter had surgery over two years ago. Yes we happen to be out of network and indeed I was not aware of it before coming into the office but the truth is that is not solely the responsibility of the office to inform patients, it is also the responsibility of the patient to inquire and get educated before. My daughter and I were already therefor the appointment so we decided to go through with the initial consultation and I am so glad I did. Although we were out of network I decided to go through with Dr Ratner. My daughter had an invasive Jaw surgery And Dr Ratner did an amazing job. He knows what he's doing and what he is talking about and perhaps that is why some patients/reviewers think he has a bad attitude but the truth is he has gone to school for a very long time and he knows exactly what he's talking about and knows and communicates what you should expect as a patient. Dr. Ratner and his team don't even deserve a 1-star rating. I had the just wasted 2 hours of my time this morning showing up to Dr. Ratner's office only to find out that they were going to charge me $397 for a consultation because they are out-of-network. I was not informed during my appointment scheduling on the phone that they would need my medical,NOT dental insurance information, and there would be consultation fee. They failed to do their due diligence. I had made an appointment about 2 weeks ago, on the phone with one of their staff. She asked me which location I prefer. I told her that I prefer to see Dr. Ratner at their Orange location. A week later, they called to reschedule my appointment due to a conflict schedule at their office. In addition, I was not informed that they don't accept dental insurance, only medical insurance. They asked me to fill out the new patient form online. I told them that I prefer to fill it out at the office and I would arrive a little early before my appointment. Then I received a text message for my appontment reminder. Their message indicated, "not sure which office?" I typed "confirmed, Orange office". A second text message was sent to me this past Tuesday. Then another one this morning before my appointment. They sent out the same question, and my response was the same THREE times! I arrived at their Orange office, but I was told to go to their Santa Ana office, which added an extra 10 minutes. After I arrived, they gave me a new patient form to complete. I gave Maria my dental insurance card. It wasn't until then that I was informed that they don't take dental insurance, only medical. I just wasted 2 hours of my time out of my work schedule for less than mediocre service, shuffled around, and to be told that I would have to pay $397 for a consultation! Dr. Ratner is GREAT, friendly and helpful. He really seems to care and want to help you. Unfortunately, he can/ will only help you if your a surgical candidate. He won't help cases that don't require surgery. I wish he had not posted anything on his website that says he does help and relieve TMJ issues. I'm sure he does a great job with the surgeries but don't go to him if you want non-surgical relief for your TMJ. He'll just refer you out. The worst part is his staff. They are not very helpful nor on top of things. This is why I've given him 2 stars. They don't call back when they say they will nor do they follow up. I came in for a consultation and staff was very rude, and impatient. Even upon calling staff was very rude and spoke with such an attitude over the phone. Staff seemed unprofessional as they prioritize having conversations about their personal lives instead of attending to guests, and make it seem as if guests are bothering them. Office just gave me an uncomfortable feeling, and unpleasant atmosphere. I'd look for other places before choosing this location. Please save your money and do not come here. Dr. Tran helped me with my surgery and she was absolutely wonderful. However, the office staff is completely disgusting. They are so incredibly rude and cut me off mid sentence when I am trying to explain what has happened. They told me I had to pay XX amount for my surgery before I had surgery done. I did, I payed it in full and they said they would apply my insurance. A month later I get a statement telling me I owed a lot more money. They never put my insurance through then they had absolutely no information to give me. They had no clue why I had this statement and where it came from. I was scrambling to get my wisdom teeth extracted because I switched jobs and I had some benefits expiring soon. They were able to accommodate my last minute request and got me in for the consultation with the procedure scheduled for the following day. They have two offices so this review is for the location where the consultation was done. I arrived to my appointment and filled out paperwork while they verified my insurance information; the reception staff was friendly and welcoming. Then I waited about 20 minutes to be called in for the consult. First one of the assistants took me to my room and then a different staff took me to another room for the panoramic x-ray. I was under the impression that I had 3 wisdom teeth, all of which needed extractions (from a previous consult with a greedy surgeon), so I didn't have them removed because I couldn't afford it. After the x-ray was developed they had me watch a video about extractions. It was outdated but had the same useful information about the procedure and possible side effects and/or complications. After about another 30 minutes, the surgeon came in and said I only had one wisdom tooth (I guess I'm one of those evolved humans haha). I told him this was news to me and asked him to please look at the x-ray again because I was kinda shocked - plus I didn't want to miss out on my great coverage that was about to expire lol. He assured me it was only that one and that even though it was impacted, he could extract it without putting me under - which was more great news! They gave me a great quote with my insurance and verified my appointment for tomorrow in their Anaheim office. It took about an hour and a half even though there weren't many other patients but I'm glad to have found an honest surgeon that didn't recommend excessive procedure or anesthesia just to make money. I originally went Dr. Ratner for a surgical procedure to remove a bony growth on my upper palate that was causing a swallowing problem. The surgery went perfectly. The staff was friendly and efficient. The surgical recovery went as described and the follow up visits were informative and helpful. Since then, I have gone to Dr. Ratner and Dr. Wilson for 3 implants. The implants went well and I was impressed with the information about implants and how they should be properly installed. IMPORTANT: If I could rate Doctor R. and the others that helped me during my surgery, it would be 5 stars wholeheartedly. When I went in on Tuesday, June 21st 2016, I was greeted with nothing but kindness, and every patient in the room had nothing but good things to say about Doctor R. and his abilities. The staff (about 3 females and another male) that assisted him during my surgery were absolutely amazing, as well. They made me feel extremely comfortable and were all very professional. Unfortunately, my recovery has not been as easy as the other patients described. I've suffered in these past 4 days; constant throbbing, decreased effectiveness of the pain medication, inability to eat, mood swings, loss of appetite, and now nausea and vomiting. Again, these symptoms are just specific to me; they have nothing to do with the great work that Doctor R. performed. Regardless, I called back today (Saturday 6/25/16) because the pain had reached an unbearable point, and the medication is no longer effective. All that I inquired about was what else I could DO. I did not request more medication, nor did I ask for a "magical solution". I just wanted help from a doctor. The woman who answered the phone in the Santa Ana office provided me with some of the worst customer service that I've ever dealt with. Crying from pain as I spoke to her, I described what has happened in the past few days, and she proceeded to connect me with Doctor Wilson. The doctor told me I had two options: suffer through it, or come to the office in 15 minutes to get a new prescription from him for pain. Keep in mind, Doctor Wilson was not the surgeon that operated on me, but was still kind enough to offer a prediction to help with pain. Doctor R. was unavailable to be reached. I told Doctor Wilson that I would call back after I contacted my parents to see if they could take me to the office. When I called back, the same woman who originally answered but me on hold for so long that I had to hang up. When I recalled, still crying in pain, she rudely greeted me and then proceeded to make me feel GUILTY about having the "kind Doctor leave his home on a Sunday to go take a prediction to the office." Never before has somebody made me feel guilty for asking a doctor for help, until now. I never asked for him to leave his home, never asked for new medication. Regardless, I apologize that Doctor Wilson had to take time from his Sunday to help a patient dealing with excruciating pain. I know that Dr W and Dr R work together, and I appreciate everything they've done for me. But the girl in the front office who helped me is the reason that I REFUSE to recommend anybody to this location. If you can, try and book with Doctor Ratner at his location in Orange; the staff there is much more patient, and always handle themselves in a professional manner. Please don't allow your children to try and deal with the office assistant at the Santa Ana location. On top of excruciating pain, I now am stuck feeling guilty because of her words. I feel uncomfortable now, and not even sure that I want to go to this office for my checkup, if it means I might run into her. Worst experience with a doctor's office assistant that I could have ever imagined. To Doctor R (my surgeon) and Doctor W, thank you - for these two Doctors, it's a 5* review. My 90 yr old mom broke off her upper molar at the root line and needed an extraction. Our dentist referred her to Dr Tran due to Mom having a heart condition and takes blood thinner & high blood presser meds. Dr Tran informed us of the risks of uncontrolled bleeding, but with her exposed roots,she ran risk of infection if we did nothing. Dr Tran was amazing, the extraction only took 15 mins and mom had very little bleeding, she recovered the next day. Dr Ratner preformed a maxillofacial surgery on me in 1991. I had a severe overbite and my lower jaw did not grow out with my upper. Kids were very mean and my parent opted for surgery. 27 years later and my jaw has been fantastic ever since. All of my dentist since have commented on what a great job he did. I went here for a consultation last week for wisdom teeth removal. I was dreading it and was in a lousy mood. Dr Ratner, Dr Tran and his wonderfully positive backoffice staff made the experience pleasant and highly informative. At 56 years of age I really dont want to go thru this surgery and Im currently trying to work up the courage , but when I do it will definitively be with this team. My only criticism would be that their phone staff could be more kind and personable when booking appointments. read more
