I have had three rabbits and two dogs fixed at this veterinary office . I've had zero concerns or complaints . Get there before 8am for drop off and they will call you as soon as your pup is recovering. They separate the rabbit's and secure them else where since they are a prey animal. FYI the office has a strong cat pee smell . It's because they fix stray cats in the community and obviously they are territorial and spray. read more

Santa Cruz Veterinary Clinic doesn't espouse the Hippocratic Oath | gives TNR a bad name My cat was assaulted and traumatized without cause on April 7th, 2026. Santa Cruz Veterinary Clinic (SCVC) is complicit and guilty, by their own admission. I am a supporter of TNR objectives and endeavors. TNR efforts, as most are, need to be conducted with competence and ethics, beyond mere legality. Here is a story of unnecessary animal abuse by SCVC and their TNR partners. SCVC's TNR partners trapped my male cat that has a notched ear and obviously has no testicles. [SCVC: "oh... the TNR people can't tell if the cat has been neutered after it's been trapped..." that's downright stupid and should be remedied if true]. We received a call from Santa Cruz Veterinary Clinic, contact info via his chip, and was asked to come and collect him. We picked him up; he was soaked and so drugged out that he couldn't walk. Still stationary, very lethargic and not eating 24 hours later. SCVC admittedly administered drugs to prepare him for surgery, obviously, without glancing at his groin to verify that he had not been neutered. [SCVC: "it's protocol" - stupid protocol, try a checklist 'is the cat already neutered?' human surgeons adopted this practice decades ago, try it, it works] SCVC states that they are within their rights, as per local codes to work with TNR partners that trap a cat who is clearly neutered as long as the cat is in someone else's yard. Common sense and ethics rise above legality. If the SCVC were ethical, beyond legality they would 1) see that the TNR partners they work with are competent, and able to identify ear notched and neutered male cats and 2) not immediately drug a cat for surgery without verifying the need to neuter. SCVC admittedly refuses to operate on a standard above the minimal criteria of legality; there is a large cushion of mediocrity that separates excellence from mere legality. SCVC, you are the very bottom. SCVC told me to "keep my cat in my house or in my yard". They are obviously a bit dimwitted. They are against indoor/outdoor cat practices. This clinic is "legal" but unethical and incompetent. I recommend the owner, managers and staff and all affiliated TNR partners undergo training and take, at least, an online course on ethics; even look it up on THE INTERNET! Try 'ethics and morality versus legality.' SCVC and their TNR partners are overzealous, unethical, incompetent and accordingly inflicted significant collateral damage, constituting abuse, on my cat. They wouldn't release the names of the responsible TNR agents which deserve to be reported so that they can be properly trained to prevent re-occurrences. SCVC instead shoulders the public responsibility for their conduct. Talking with the manager was like listening to the recently fired head of the DHS, justifying their tactics and values. SCVC is steadfast, no hesitation, no empathy, no apology. No desire to be better, simple proud advocates of the status quo. It's legal so it's okay. Come on SCVC, raise the bar, don't slither under it. Just because your work is voluntary or grant supported doesn't make it okay to occasionally abuse an animal. You are responsible if my cat dies. Horrible experience. Took my sister's dog to be euthanized. The girl who injected the dog with a sedative made the 16 year old blind dog cry and caused him to seizure. What should have been a fast and painless death for the dog was torture. The young girl who did the procedure on the dog was inexperienced and not a veterinarian. Santa Cruz is our primary location for affordable care of pets. We primarily use this clinic for foster pets spay and neuter and first shots for Pima Animal Care Center animals. They are very efficient and will get you in and out, especially for appointments. We started using Santa Cruz for the Feral Cat program (Trap, Speuter, Release). They were very helpful and assistive in addressing every surgery need of the animals that we take to them. For Covid, they have set up curbside services so you sign in outside and then wait in your vehicle for the techs to come out and retrieve/deliver your pets. (I was in a hurry and came inside by accident, but they politely directed me outside...oops and sorry) I want you to know they are a local office, without the corporate vet issues of over charging and lack of empathy. On spay/neuter they are quick and efficient, so there the interactions are usually brief and quick, but if you have questions they will stop and help. Also because they do community feral cat programs, there is occasionally the strong odor of male cats in the office. They also have some pet supplies like most vets. Very small parking and can be crowded in mornings. Great place and service for the community. read more

If you have ever been to SCVC you would quickly learn that they take in, spay or neuter, and then release stray cats leading to healthier animals and minimizing overpopulation. Their humanitarian aid reaches beyond strays; I was blessed enough to be on the receiving end of a reduced rate on my cats emergency and life saving surgery because at the time I truly needed the help. Now I take my pets here for any reason. Their doctors and vet techs are so helpful and kind, I just know that they care about the animals well being above anything else. These folks are true heroes. We've brought in 2 un neutered male cats so far to get fixed and vaxed. They are competent, empathetic and professional. There is an avalanche of feral cats that come through the clinic, and these good people examine, fix and vaccinate the kitties-and provide medical attention, too-if you live in the area of Tucson, it's free through a grant they receive (although donations are gratefully accepted.) We drive 50+ miles to bring our ferals here, and are happy to pay $50 for the neuter and vaccines. Just FYI, one would normally leave a cat overnight if they're dropped off between Mon-Thursday, but if they're dropped on Friday, they must be picked up between 5:30-5:45. I had an afternoon appt to get vaccines for my three foster kittens. I have to drive about forty five minutes to get there. While on my way, one of the kittens had an accident. The whole crate was covered with poop by the time I walked in for my appt. Maria greeted me with a smile and listened while I explained what happened. She immediately took me to a room and gave me supplies to clean up the kittens. Charlotte came in to check on us. She could tell I was frustrated. She smelled and saw the mess and started to help me clean up the crate. She actually took it and cleaned it for me. She was so kind and helpful. Maria and Charlotte were so amazing. I would give no stars to this place if I could. This is by far the WORST PLACE to take your pet / family member. My dog was in need of being spayed. My vet suggested a few "reputable" companies due to them not being able to perform this procedure and this was one of them. Upon making an appointment, I notified the clinic that my pet was very shy and had separation anxiety. The staff assured me that they would take good care and have her out in about 2 hours after surgery which was to be at 8am. On the scheduled day, I came in and was told that pick-up was now at 315 pm. Once again, her appointment time was 8am. They said she would need time to recover from her surgery but if things looked good, I could be called to come pick her up early. Although uncomfortable with this, I agreed to leave her there for the surgery in hopes I could get her earlier. At 11am I called to check in on her. The staff told me that she was in a kennel and had NOT yet had surgery. They even informed me that she had howled herself to sleep after they gave her a sedative I WAS NOT INFORMED ABOUT. When questioned about the howling the manager said that she should not have told me that. So what?? Keep me in the dark about how you were handling my loved one?? So, they lied to me about her actual appointment details and then lied to me when I dropped her off. She was not taken outside to use the bathroom and had not been given water since midnight due to the surgery restrictions. This is straight forward ANIMAL ABUSE. When told all this, I raced over to collect my pet. I WILL NEVER use this clinic and will make sure that many know not to do the same. Shame on all of you. Do better. read more

Doesn't look like much from the outside but the vet here was amazing!!! My dog couldn't walk on her hind legs. Seemed like she was paralyzed from the waiste down. The vet took her for a x ray and popped her back into place. We got her on meds and within a few days my dog was good as a brand new puppy. And theyre very affordable. I got a $500 cert. from PACC for low income and we didnt even use it all for all they did for Luna. I thought it was going to be mote than $500 for all that. read more

My 6 month old Siberian Husky went in to get spayed. Nothing bad to say to the doctor, yet who controls the technicians. the tec shaved the side of my husky as if she was having hip surgery. You never shave a husky's fur down to skin , unless in a medical emergency. It's funny how many veterinarian tecs have no clue. Veterinarians as well as their employees may be liable for negligence. No matter who was responsible, the standard in negligence lawsuits is what another reasonable person would do in similar circumstances, rather than professional competence. Pet owners aren't limited to a negligence lawsuit just because their animals were injured by the other employees in the vet's office or hospital. Veterinary technicians and assistants are often responsible for much of the hands-on medical procedures, and their employers (the vets or hospitals) may be liable for malpractice if they allow untrained or unsupervised employees treat animals. read more

i would give a - 5 but you do not have the option for negative. first they lied and lied and lied i am disabled on a very small fixed income but my dog had to have eye surgery for entropy. i did not want her to get eye ulcers or go blind which is what would have happened. I sent an email to several vets and santa cruz sent me the most timely reply. i did tell them what her condition was, that i have to depend on my son for a ride (60 miles away). that my son would have to take time off work to take me and the dog to the vet so i needed everything done the same day. and i needed the quote. I did get the quote 440 dollars . 40 for the office visit then 200 dollars for each eye. ok its expensive for me but she is my baby which we rescued from an extremely abusive home. so they said it would be about a month before she could be seen which was ok. i needed that time to be able to save the money. i emailed back for an appointment ( which they said i could set everything up through email) WRONG they made me call. not a big deal for a lot of people but i have extremely high anxiety and phone calls make it really bad. so i called for the appointment. got it set up and wouldnt you know they LIED again. said she could not be operated on until the following month! then they said they would force me to have her spade. which was also the plan but at a later date again i would have to save for that. then they told me the bill would be over 600 bucks. i did not plan for that as i was given the quote of 440. that is what i had. so i said can you bill me the balance. Oh no was the reply we do not bill. it is cash today. so i said FU and walked out. i was already upset and anxiety was through the roof. on our way out of town they called and said they would do the procedure for 400 dollars, ok so bella went in and had eye surgery and was fixed. then they told me the stitches were dissolve able. nooo they are not. so if you want to be lied to. forced procedures on your pet. treated like trash this is the place for you! otherwise you would be wise to go elsewhere and let them to the feral they are so proud to do. read more

We were referred here by our neighbor as we moved from Oro Valley to midtown and needed a vet that was closer than our previous one. Last December, our Australian Shepherd mix became ill and tests revealed he had cancer. Our vet in Oro Valley didn't believe he was suffering, and we chose to love on him as long as we could with whatever time he had left. That time came due today when he began bleeding from his nose and rectum. I called to schedule our boy to be humanely euthanized, and the receptionist scheduled us for 11:30 AM. Once we arrived we had the usual paperwork to fill out, and then we waited...and waited...and waited...and waited. We watched helplessly at our dog as he panted from pain, bled and urinated on the floor of the waiting area, and continued to suffer. In the past, when I've taken a beloved pet into a veterinary clinic to be euthanized, we were immediately directed into an exam room. Not here. We weren't brought into a room until 45 min into our wait. A dog in the back kennel wailed and howled the whole time. It was heartbreaking, on top of our own heartbreaking situation. After 20 min in the exam room I finally lost my patience and went to the desk to inform some lost looking female tech that if we weren't taken care of, I'd get our money back and we'd go to another vet. Clearly that made an impression because in short order 2 women came in and no one introduced themselves. "Have you ever done this before?" One lady asked us. Yeah...have they? I teach Anatomy & Physiology for a living, for goodness sakes! At this point our dog was so far gone that he didn't have a blood pressure, so putting the needle into the vein on his hind leg was nigh impossible! Typically when an animal is brought in for euthanasia a sedative is given before the lethal injection is administered. Not here. Our dog was never sedated. I'll never go back, nor recommend this clinic to anyone. They're poorly trained, seemed to not care (until I made a fuss) and are ambivalent at best. Save your fuzzy companion the pain and humiliation and go somewhere else where your animal, and you, will be treated with respect and compassion. read more

After calling 20 plus vet offices I was blown away with Santa Cruz's fast response and willingness to take him right away despite the COVID chaos. They not only repaired his leg - they were a fraction of the cost of every other office I called. I am noticing some negative reviews. Please understand that every experience at every Clinic is different, and before you decide to go elsewhere, based off of some1 else's description - I hope my experience will make you reconsider: First and Foremost: Santa Cruz is basically the ONLY low-cost clinic in Tucson. Their charges are minimal and they provide lots of free services like spay & Neuter, that you won't find at Pet Dr or Pima Pet Clinic (These 2 Places SUCK ASS in my opinion!) So disregard comments of poor communication an uninformed employees. Because of the low cost, pet owners flock here like Bees to Honey! [Confusion is bound to happen!] This makes wait times longer and with so many other people, information is bound to get jumbled up! Get real you guys! You try doing what they do and not make 1 little mistake. People come here everyday to take advantage of the free services they have. Which is Great! But when negative reviews are left, it hinders their ability to provide these services because they then start loosing funding. When my dog needed an Obstructive surgery, Pima Pet Clinic was going to charge me $2500. Pet Dr - $1600. I could not afford these costs and a women with the PFA directed me to Santa Cruz. There she put $400 on my dogs operation and I paid the remaining $450 bringing the total to $850. HALF the price of these other Clinics. Not only that, but while she was under they spayed her for me, and updated all her Vaccinations + Rabies - FREE OF CHARGE! I spent $574 between Pet Dr and Pima Pet Clinic JUST to be told that she NEEDED surgery! That is 3/4 the amount spent on the actually service! I will NEVER go to another Clinic again because this is the ONLY 1 NOT out to get your money! They are overwhelmed providing services that other Clinics will NOT offer in a million years. I ask you again: PLEASE IGNORE NEGATIVE COMMENTS ABOUT UNINFORMED STAFF. THIS IS SIMPLY NOT TRUE! You're in a facility providing crucial free services! People line up at the door before they even open! I'm almost positive that for every staff member on sight, there is at least 3 people inquiring for their pet to be seen. Making the Work load for the technicians Extremely Overwhelming! Confusion is bound to happen and they still do a damn good job! One person left a comment about Rose Specifically who is the GM of Santa Cruz. Her comment stated that Rose was rude to her and some other nonsense that I honestly didn't even bother to read because Rose is nothing like what she described. She is gentle and the most caring Animal Care Associate I have ever met. When they discovered the extreme anemia my dog has from her blood work, it finally all made sense why her body wasn't healing after surgery. Rose provided me prescription pain medication, prescription food, and a prescribed antibiotic Free of charge to me after seeing what I had already paid out of pocket. Please, please do not go off of these negative reviews. And although my heart goes out to everyone and their pets who's experience was not like mine, I will ALWAYS stand beside Santa Cruz. I beg you to come in. To bring your pets and your friends pets and your uncles pets, ect. Every charge, every fee, is MINIMAL and provides contribution to their emergency services. Every negative review breaks my heart, because it has the potential to turn others away. To go to a facility that is over priced and does not provide those free services so many rely on. This pet clinic is actually amazing, the customer service is everything. The vets were so so so kind to me, no one judged me even for bringing 5 cats. Not only was the spay and neuter free each of my cats were given vaccines. The next morning my cats weren't even limping or acting weak, they acted and felt as if nothing had happened to them. I'm still having a hard time believing all of it was free. One thing I guess I have to complain about is my cats were ear tiped, I don't think it was completely necessary but I don't really have a right to complain. This is an unusual clinic. It doesn't really feel like people care about your animal. It could be that there are too few staff to negotiate all the people on the Southside who use this clinic. Dr. Neal is very knowledgeable. The problem is there is next to no followup. You get expensive tests and the receptionist tells you what to do. This does not cut it. You need, at least, to talk with a technician who can explain the results and help you with a plan. If you have an urgent or semi urgent need in relation to your pet, they just direct you to a 24 hour facility. There is no commitment to your pet. At a minimum I would think they would designate someone to follow-up with you, to see if you really need emergency care or perhaps need to see your situation differently. It is unlikely I will return here. It is not just the visit that matters. The follow-up, in my view, is equally important. And there is none. read more

Out of all of the vets that I have gone to over the years, they are by far my favorite. My baby puppy girl had to have some masses removed from here body. Not only was the staff caring and compassionate but, they made sure she was taken care of. When her stitches on her chest busted open, the vet looked them over and determined that the wound was healing effectively and that the stitches could be removed so that it could heal properly from the inside out. They also re-wrapped her and made a make-shift dressing out of a tank top. They also did not charge me extra for her bringing her back in for aftercare. I also love their stray cat program. We adopted our kitty from PACC and her spay was completed at this location. I also love their affordably low prices. read more

I was very nervous bringing my young rabbit here for a spay since rabbit groups give dire warnings about not using rabbit specialist veterinarians (due to a high mortality rate). After reading a review about a successful rabbit neuter, I decided to look into them. Santa Cruz has a veterinarian who spent years doing spay and neuter at the humane society. With this in mind, I booked the appointment. Like the other reviewer, I received estimates ranging from 700-900 dollars to spay my FREE rabbit. I spent a total of $100 for the surgery and pain medication. My lovely lop is recovering well. It has been 11 days and the incision is no longer visible. The staff was friendly. Drop off for surgeries is in the morning so the clinic is pretty crowded and the staff is busy, but they were professional and courteous. The only negative I can think of is that, because they have an employee who is allergic to rabbits, they could not give me a time to pick her up. Which was not a big deal for me but might be worth mentioning for people who need to coordinate work and/or child care. And they also informed me of this when I booked the appointment so it came as no surprise. Clearly this detail does not detract from my 5-star satisfaction. All around great experience. If it was not so far away, I would strongly consider bringing my dogs here for their regular appointments.
