we got good fast care, for a possible ear infection. Dr thought it was allergies. we were prescribed Apoquel, but told we could take zyrtec. with no invoice i was told the bill was 150.00 for exam and meds. i was stunned, stupidly i paid; i was not given options. when i looked at the bill after i got the dog to the car. the allergy medicine was $100.00. i looked on line zyrtec or its generic it is about $15.00 for 500 tabs and Apoquel is 3.00 for 30 tabs which is what i got. you shouldnt feel violated when you go to the vet or anywhere. i would have declined the apoquel, if given the option or told the price. there is a no return policy on the wall. now i know why. you shouldnt have to be on guard as though they are out to get you. most vets are doing a better job at this. i thought this might be affordable care. read more

I would give ZERO stars if only i could! I've never been treated so rudely. Barely examined my cat, vet did not even touch her, before saying it would be hundreds of dollars in tests or "euthanize now". My cat is elderly and fading but not in immediate distress where I would euthanize immediately- I was simply looking for advice on elderly cat care and support. I asked to discuss the situation with my husband and the vet left the room. I'd been on the call with him for only a minute when she came in and barked "made a decision yet?" I asked for 30 seconds to wrap up the call and she never came back but I heard her shouting the receptionist "any decision in there?" I was so upset with the behavior I literally packed my cat up and left, less than 10 total minutes in the office, and no advice whatsoever. the receptionist was nice but the vet was awful. I gave Broadway Animal Hospital two stars because I do believe that Dr. Mueller is a competent vet. But that's about the only good thing I can say about this clinic. I'm sorry, but it wouldn't kill her to brush up a bit on her people skills, especially when folks are upset about their ill pet, or particularly with end-of-life care. I speak from experience. Not that I expect any of this to change, because she's been operating in the same way for eons, and her brusque manner sets the tone for the staff--and particularly the office manager--at this compassion-challenged clinic. read more

**This review is in reference to teeth cleaning** I brought my 7.5 year old Doberman in to have his teeth cleaned; they were very dirty and his breath was extremely bad. I called to get a quote over the phone and was told it'd be $225. To me that was very reasonable, considering most places charge twice that. When I brought my dog in for his consultation is was brief. They checked his heart and then looked at his teeth quick and assured me they could clean them. I was told it'd would be $225 and that included any extractions for rotting teeth. I opted for the pain management shot for an additional $28 so that my dog would feel better following his procedure. On the day of his cleaning the staff was every friendly and tested my dog with care. I dropped him off at 8:30am and picked him back up at 4:30pm. My dog did not require any tooth extractions (which was a relief) and when I looked at his teeth, they were incredibly clean. His teeth are almost as white as when he was a puppy, and his breath does NOT smell AT ALL; it's amazing. I am beyond pleased with the work they did and would highly recommend Broadway Animal Hospital to anyone seeking a cleaning for their pet. My only regret is that I did not take 'before and after' photos to post on Yelp. read more

My family rescued a senior dog who had been dumped in a parking lot, only for the poor little guy to develop glaucoma within a year of his adoption. I spent about $500 trying out different medications and paying for eye pressure tests and bloodwork. Nothing changed, and our vet recommended chest x-rays and surgery to remove the eye- at a cost of $1700 to $2300, depending on how long surgery took. Desperate, I started calling around and found Dr. Mueller, who performed the surgery for $400 flat just 3 days after I called. No hidden fees, no unnecessary additional procedures. Not only that, but she called me immediately after the surgery was performed to let me know my dog was okay, and she followed up with a phone call three days later to check on him, too. I had read reviews prior to walking into Broadway Animal Hospital, so I knew Dr. Mueller wasn't a chatty person. That's okay. Her actions speak much louder than her (lack of) words. After taking my dog into Broadway Animal Hospital to update her vaccinations, I made a light joke about how fat she was getting and I need to put her on a diet. Dr. Mueller asked if I was ok to have my dog x-rayed. Of course I said yes, not thinking much about. Then I saw the x-rays. My dog had a very large tumor attached to her spleen and Dr. Mueller thought it might be bleeding as well. She recommended I go to a surgeon ASAP. She gave me 3 recommendations here in Tucson and one in Phoenix. The soonest I could get into anywhere in Tucson was 14 hours! So I opted to go to Phoenix and they moved back other surgeries to get our dog in immediately. After the surgery, the surgeon said we were lucky to get there when we did. If we waited the 14 hours, she would've died. Dr. Mueller saved our dog's life!!! If you are looking for pampering and rainbows and lollipops, do not go there. But if you are looking for a competent, experienced, no nonsense veterinarian then see Dr. Mueller. If bedside manners are more important than the health of your pets, go elsewhere. read more

I brought my dog here a few months ago to be examined because she had a swollen lymph node in her groin area. I got to talk to Dr. Mueller for all of 2 minutes before she started to try to leave the room, literally with one foot out the door while I'm still asking questions. She told me that "it was probably a hernia, definitely not her lymph node, and that I could go to a speciality center and pay $2k just to have it diagnosed or she could do an exploratory surgery and fix it for half that". She also told me "hernia" surgery is not incredibly urgent and that I could go on the vacation I had planned the next week. I had a horrible feeling so I decided to take her somewhere else and found out that my dog had stage 3 lymphoma and would have had weeks to live. If I had trusted that other incompetent doctor she might be dead. Take your pets literally anywhere else if you care about them. read more

I took the pup into Broadway Animal Hospital for his annual and some shots. They are one of two places in Tucson that accepts my let insurance. I got curious and wanted to read some yelp reviews while in the office. Mistake, I ended up freaking myself out. Why you might ask? Some of the previous reviews talk about the appearance of the hospital and I am completely with them. The appearance is -not- hospital like at all. When I pulled up I had a lot of apprehension. It looks older because it is. When I got inside it was very quaint AND yes, it has a smell but it smells faintly like bathing animals. They have an Onsite groomer which might explain that. After that lengthy intro, let's jump into it. Greeting and the Wait -- walked in and smiles smiles smiles. I have husky, it's hard not to pet him and love on him. The girls all were just so happy to see us, and this was my first time here! They quickly got me checked in with the usual paperwork and we waited. They were running behind on the schedule but I'm pretty ok with knowing most likely the reason why is there were a couple of sick animal emergencies that had to be squeezed in. The groomer came up and introduced herself and played with my dog a bit. I think that was nice. During the wait other pet families came in and were all very nice. It is a small space and we were all pretty much in the same boat when it came to our excited pups wanting to sniff and play with each other. No playing commenced, but it was nice to see other pet families in there with the usual waiting room chatting. The Exam, the Dr. and Shots -- got called back, weighed and put in a room. Dr. Muller (sp?) was in rather quickly. I have to address the thermometer thing, there was one of those protector covers on it when she took his temp. She asked the general questions and was very straight forward and hopped right to on his shots. The pup has never flinched for shots and was giving kisses for the Dr. even after she put the stuff in his nose. So she was canine approved and I liked her. She gave me a few recommends, heart-worm meds, flea and tick meds. Asked about his diet. Asked if I would like to do a stool test to make sure his digestive system is good, I declined. She declared him good, warned that he might be a little sleepy later and we were sent on the way. Price -- I have pet insurance and my price is rather inexpensive and it was exactly what it has always been, so I cannot speak to the pricing. Overall, I was really satisfied and happy. Don't judge the book by its cover if the appearance makes you apprehensive. I liked it, I am keeping this vet. I will update if I ever have to go back for anything more serious. read more

Dr. Muller is no nonsense. Broadway Animal Hospital is where most of the rescues in town take their dogs. Why? Dr. Muller is cheap and effective. For example, our dog Scout, a westie-poodle mix (rescue) needed dental work. Being a frugal grad student, and not wanting to skimp on my sweetiepie, we shopped around for a teeth cleaning. Some places wanted-no kidding- $500 dollars plus 50 bucks per teeth that needed to be removed. Dr. Muller charged us $150 bucks (teeth pulling included). Now our sweetie has beautiful smile. And I am not bankrupt. Now whats the difference between a 500 dollar teeth cleaning and $150 dollar one? Nothing - they both meet the same standard of care. But be warned, Dr. Muller is not very warm. I think she is one of those people who likes animals more than people (who can blame the good Dr.). I actually think she is one of the most ethical vets in town. She wont recommend needlessly prolonging a dying dogs life. read more

Some "sensitive" people will have a tendency to be turned off by Dr Mueller's blunt nature. However, they should never mistake that for a lack of care or empathy from her or her staff. We have been going there for years and have never had a single issue. We live in multi-dog home and Doc Mueller has handled broken legs, hernia surgeries, shots, teeth cleanings, checkups, and nursed one of our dogs back from the brink of death after an aggressive case of parvo. read more

There are better places to take your pets. I waited with my two dogs for about 25 minutes to be seen for an annual checkup. The lobby smells horrible--unlike any other vet's office I've ever been to in my life. The price that I was quoted over the phone was not the price I was charged in the end, they didn't ask for rabies tag data, the vet refused to check the stool samples that I brought and insisted on just prescribing medication, and I think that the vet forgot to sterilize the thermometer between dogs. :-/ At $15 per minute--I'd rather go somewhere cleaner and more thorough. read more

You get what you pay for. This clinic is affordable true - but what price does your pet pay when you go there? My cat paid with her kidneys. I took her there for a dental (because it was cheeper than all the other clinics). They were supposed to run blood PRIOR to anesthesia to make sure it would be safe for my cat. Her Kidney values (BUN & Creatinine) were border line on previous blood work at another vet 4 months prior - I wanted to make sure her kidneys could handle the anesthesia. A few months later my cat was horribly sick. We found out it was chronic renal failure. When the doctor asked me when she had last had blood work I said right before her dental. For 2 hours his staff called broadway trying to get copies of the labwork - when it came in he was appalled - he told me he would have never done surgery on my cat with the high BUN and Creatinine levels she had (since then multiple vets have made teh same statement when I showed them labwork. At a minimum my cat needed to be hospitalized and given IV fluids prior to any surgery to try and help her kidneys remove all the wastes from the blood. Also (they failed to remove some very diseased and broken teeth during the dental. I was trying to relieve my cats mouth pain but in the end they failed to do the dental properly and they shortened the life span of my cat. At a minimum they should have called me with the lab results and asked me if I wanted them to procede.... and she should have notified me that my cat was possibly in early stages of chronic renal failure and advised me to start her on fluids etc.... I have heard too many similar stories from other people going to Dr. Mueller to try and save money - it is not worth your pets life or the guilt you will feel later - trust me. This is not a one time fluke incident. There are major problems with her practice. The savings are not worth your pets longevity and quality of life!!!! read more

We've had great experiences with Dr. Mueller and the hospital. Yes, the premises could use a lick of paint, but the lack of pretension and focus on quality, economic care is so refreshing after we first tried some of the glitzy, pay-a-fortune vets where a "billing specialist" appears to empty your wallet before your pet is treated and acts shocked if you're not willing to shell out $5,000 to keep your aging dog around in dubious health for a few months. Dr. Mueller is a straight shooter, does a careful diagnosis and gets right to the point. She tells you whether something is treatable, how much the options cost, and then leaves it to you to decide whether it's worth it. Perhaps we find this approach so refreshing because we moved here from a small town in Colorado where we used an old-timey country vet who was very similar. A final point is that because the Broadway hospital is efficient, the wait is rarely long, nowhere near as long as the fancy places we tried before. I read a few of the negative reviews, where the reviewers were put off by the lack of paint and the "get to the point" attitude of Dr. Mueller. My advice is not to confuse slick "customer management" operations with quality care. read more

Its true, Dr. Mueller is not the warmest of people. But who cares? Your dog doesn't... Fact is, Dr. Mueller is DAMN good at her job, she is a talented veterinarian, and that is all that matters to me. She tells you how it is, no BS, gets the job done, and then goes to heal the next patient. If you want to work with someone whose got your pet's best interest in mind instead of your wallet, then Dr. Mueller is the one to go to. If YOU need more comforting than your pet does, this is probably not the place to go. People act towards vets the same way they act towards doctors: its a big game of "blame the doctor". Its just ridiculous. Not every medical problem is as simple as a cold, ok? This vet has solved dozens of my animals' health issues over the past several years, and I for one greatly appreciate it! I have had both of my dogs and all four of my cats see Dr. Mueller many times over the course of the past four years, and I can attest to her skill as a vet, her professionalism as a businesswoman, and the fact that she DOES actually care about your pet. She always calls a few days later to see how the animal is doing...a nice CARING touch that Ive never experienced with any other vet in town. read more

This is definitely not the friendlier vets I'm used to back home. I had to take my dog in for some shots and this was one of the few ones that open on weekends. The place the same kind of smell like most vet clinics, but the staff was not as friendly and warm. Maybe they were too busy. So after we got in the treatment room, someone stormed in and pointed to my dog and asked: "And this is...?" No hello, no introductions, no greetings of any kind. Most places you go to, the vet or the staff would greet you and your pet, and try to be friendly first. But this one is definitely different. After finding out what my dog needed, this lady stormed out and came back shortly with a mouth guard for my dog. She told me to put it on him. Well, my dog looks big, but he is a sweet heart. He doesn't bark or bite. I wondered if this lady ever worked with dogs before. It seems she just wanted to get things done and move on. She didn't care who the dog was and how it was feeling. Thank goodness the shots were done quickly. She handed over the paperwork, told me to pay at the front, and left. No good bye, no thank you. So I still don't know who that lady was, whether she was the vet or something else. I guess I don't mind if I have to take my dog there for shots again, since I get to be with my dog the whole time, so I'm not worried how others may treat him. But if I have to leave him for some longer treatment, God forbid, I would go elsewhere where I know he will be treated and handled with TLC. read more

We just had our dog's teeth cleaned at Broadway Animal Hospital. The staff was friendly and courteous. They obviously love animals, as the employees bring their pets to work. It is a very casual, and comfortable, atmosphere. I believe our dog was given excellent care. The price was very reasonable, and there were no surprises. The vet counseled us after the procedure, and we were happy with the meeting. The only reason I gave 4 stars instead of 5 is the condition of the premises. The clinic has been there for years, and it shows. A little paint would go a long way in making it appear a little more professional. That being said, the clinic has a steady stream of regular "patients", and the old-timers seem very happy to be there. We have no complaints about the quality of the service or they way we, and our dog, were treated. This is probably the best clinic in Tucson to have your pet's teeth taken care of. I actually started using Broadway Animal Hospital around 1970, long before Dr. Mueller came. She never showed much compassion or took much time for diagnosis, was always brusque, and often irritated with a reluctant dog, but she seemed to give adequate care. Perhaps I tolerated it because I have a retired vet friend who helped me manage conditions she didn't seem to be able to. The turning point came when I took my aged basset hound in for brief, but frequent episodes of panting and disorientation. I got about half a sentence out of my mouth when Dr. Mueller broke in and said, "How much money have you got?" The message was clear: your animal is not worth my time and effort, so if you want help, go somewhere else. I did. My new vet gets right down on the floor with the dogs, shows unlimited patience, and explains everything thoroughly. I don't know what took me so long to change. I'll never go back. read more

yes the vet can be cold, but she does her job. That is all I care about. I brought my cat after her kittens were born, to have her and them checked out (since she had problems with her lats 2 litters). The vet confirmed my worst fear, there was a problem. She had given birth to 5 living kittens, but one was still inside. The vet assured me Isis (my cat) would be ok, but the kitten was probably dead. Isis needed an emergency C-section, and they fixed her while at it. It was very expensive $800, but my kitty was in distress. They went in, fixed her, and removed the kitten ALIVE! yep that's right the kitten was alive. The vet didn't give a lot of hope, but I value her honesty. I would prefer to have the truth, then a pretty lie. The kitten lived longer then she told me he would, but he died after 4 days. I'm saddened by this, but if Isis needs any more help, or her other kittens do I will return here. read more

I caution anyone to be extremely careful before taking a pet to Broadway Animal Hospital. Years ago, my cat was sick and I had to take her there because extenuating circumstances made it impossible for me to select another option. The veterinarian I dealt with indicated that she wanted to do a surgical biopsy on my cat because, and I quote, "I like to cut." The next day, I got a call from this same creepy veterinarian, informing me that my cat had died. Do I think that the vet killed my cat? It's hard not to think so. I believe my cat had cancer and was terminally ill. But I also believe that some kind of sick malpractice resulted in her sudden death. I cannot in good conscience recommend Broadway Animal Hospital. Indeed, I can only recommend that people steer clear of it. Something is not right about this place. And something may be very deeply wrong with one or more of the doctors it employs. read more

I've never brought my personal dogs here, only my foster dogs over the past 10 years. I've most had to deal with Dr. Mueller who is the kind of doctor you either really love or despise. Sadly I am the ladder. I'll never forget when I brought my second foster dog ever to her and she listened to his heart. Without pause or feeling she said he had a bad heart murmur and would need to be put down. He was only 9 months old. I cried for days. Thankfully he went on to be adopted and last I heard at 6 years old was still going strong. I'm the kind of dog owner who doesn't want the hard truth without softness. I like a softer approach. With that said, Gabe is taking over a lot more responsibilities and this review is for him. He was quiet with my foster, gentle, and discussed multiple avenues. I didn't feel like an annoyance. I enjoyed meeting him and I trust his opinion with my foster. The one thing that hasn't changed is the staff. They've always been friendly, helpful and welcoming. It's not easy dealing with fretful dog owners like me all day long. These are our kids after all. read more

We usually kennel our dog here when we are away since they are much cheaper then a lot of places. The guys that handle the dogs are super kind and my dog always seems very happy when he comes out. This time a star was knocked because my dog had diarrhea for 2 days because of the cans they were feeding him. Poor thing must have suffered the 5 days he stayed. read more

I recently brought my dog in for a dental cleaning, his first ever. Wow! What a difference it made. I was embarrassed at how bad his breath and teeth were prior to the cleaning; I can say that it was worth every penny ($150)! I had called a few other places for quotes and some charge $400+! If you're a student or military, be sure to bring ID, since they offer a 15% discount on services. Price included sedation (by injection, which I hear is better than gas), full cleaning and antibiotics. Extractions I think were only $25. I did get a follow-up call from the vet the following day, which was nice! Our dog took a couple of days to get back to his normal self (he was loopy and tired for a little while), but he was eating right away with no problems. (Note: I have only used this hospital for its dental cleaning services, I cannot speak for any other services provided by the hospital) read more
