A little late in posting, but still worth the while. We wanted to eat near the track before heading into Jazz fest to save a little cash. I was afraid there would be a wait given it's location, but there wasn't. It was busy for sure but still plenty of tables inside and out. We started with House Margaritas. I was a disappointed by the size of the little plastic go cup it was served in, but let me tell ya, they did not skimp on the amount of tequila. Just a bit strong for my taste but still good. The service is like every other place right now. It's off but they do try. They just don't have enough people so when they get crowded it backs up. Definitely one of my favorite restaurants in New Orleans. The place is very nice, cute and cozy. It is a family business, it's owned by this sweet married couple and they both are in the restaurant almost all the time. They are extremely friendly and like chatting to their restaurant visitors. There is also a beautiful patio facing Esplanade St, which is covered by glass looking I guess plastic? It does look like glass though. So you can sit outside in any weather. There is a tiny parking lot in the back of the restaurant, it fits 5 or 6 cars and it is almost always full. But there is plenty of street parking on Esplanade or side streets. Frozen margaritas are the best. They are made from scratch with fresh fruit. Last time I came here I spilled my drink trying to take a picture of my food for Yelp. Quaint little place with excellent curb appeal. However... our waitress, Sue seemed be put off by our very existence. From the get go, we did not order in a timely fashion when she came to our table which resulted in an abrupt exit. Quick tip be ready when she tees there!! I had lunch here yesterday and enjoyed my visit. First of all, Santa Fe is located on Esplanade Avenue near Bayou St. John, and I love the area. There's outdoor seating so you can enjoy a nice breeze and lots of people watching. I parked right on the side of the building and was greeted and seated right away. This place just feels authentic. From the decor to the mellow and friendly staff, it all makes me feel like I'm on vacation. I ordered my water, and while I perused the menu my server brought me a big basket of fresh chips and a bowl of smoky, sweet salsa. So good. I went with the roasted beet salad with goat cheese. I had fully intended to have a huge, rich, plate of something Mexican, but that salad was calling my name. I really don't know what happened, but I know now that I chose wisely. It was a generous size, the beets were perfectly prepared and there was a lot of tangy, creamy goat cheese. I would definitely have that salad again. Margaritas were as strong as I remember and the ambiance with all the little lights in the trees on Esplanade is so charming! Staff is attentive and courteous- when I had to go inside to use the restroom everyone joked with me and I was cracking up. The queso is not my favorite, but that didn't stop me from eating a ton of it. Tuna dish was great and exactly what I expected, but why was I trying to be healthy there? Favorite margarita happy hour in the city!! Santa Fe as always been my go-to for a good ole marg. I love that they have happy hour Mon-Fri, so it's been a great first stop for Friday night bar hopping. Their margs are pretty strong and also super tastey; perfect combo of simple syrup and sour mix. Also, their chips and salsa are complimentary and very tastey...the salsa is nice and thick, not watery with chunks of tomato and onion like most free salsa. I've tried several items on their food menu over the years and to me, the food is just ok-good. Not bad, but not awesome lol. It's also a bit overpriced, to me. So, I go for the dranks and chips n salsa and ambiance, which is great. I love spending an evening on Esplanade Ave. I don't see many young people my age out eating and drinking in the area and I don't know why. It's lovely. Tip: bring your metal straw. I just had the most delicious lunch here. First of all, plenty of outdoor seating for safe distancing and servers wearing masks. The location outside is delightful lots of shade. Owner appears to be on site fixing outdoor spaces for maximum comfort and shade. I had the gazpacho, a house salad and a margarita. In town for Thanksgiving week and stopped in for lunch. Santa Fe in its former location was a regular destination in the 90's. The Esplanade location has great outdoor seating. Had the chips and guacamole as well as the standard and complimentary first bowl of salsa. The red snapper special was quite good. The service was perfect. The restaurant appears to be slightly understaffed but the wait staff "stays in touch" with you the entire time, letting you know that you have not been forgotten. I specifically requested slow service as I was working on my laptop. My server couldn't have been better or more gracious. The biggest difference between the service here and the service at other restaurants, which are also understaffed, is communication. Santa Fe is a great spot. Good drinks (which I didn't have today), good food, great and convenient setting, and a competent staff! Thank you Santa Fe! Looking forward to the next visit. read more

This place is pretty solid. I've been here before but only to drink. This time I tried some food. They have really good margaritas, which is the only drink when I go. Some very nice ladies I met at the bar were raving about the salmon appetizer. They insisted that my friend and I try it. They insisted so much so that they had one sent out to us. And it was as good as they said it was. It was flavorful and had a nice crust on the outside while the inside was moist and flaky. The sauce was great and it had a good side salad along with it. I also tried the mussels and that were great. The flavor of the broth was so rich. My friend ordered a burrito that looked pretty good. I got the hot wings in the honey chipotle glaze and that were really good and came with a nice corn salsa that was yummy as well. New to the area, so looked up Santa Fe but their menu on some sites and their site is different than the menu at the restaurant. It is not a Mexican food restaurant, more like a fusion restaurant. I decided to get the fish tacos but they are nothing like the Southern California fish tacos because no seasoning, sauce but good grilled fish but no lime with it.
